The hotel location is quite good. In fact, most hotels in Tromsø are well located, with the exception of the Moxy, which is on the other side of the island. Smarthotel only cleans the rooms every fourth day. While this may be acceptable from a cost-saving and environmental perspective, guests should be aware that their room will not be cleaned during most short stays. The rooms are small and narrow, and the bed is positioned with one side against the wall, meaning there is only access from one side. As a result, one person has to climb over their partner or companion to get in and out of bed. I understand the intention behind reduced cleaning schedules for sustainability reasons; however, the room initially assigned to us was extremely dirty and had an unpleasant smell. We had no choice but to request an immediate room change and pay for an upgrade. For me, cleanliness is non-negotiable, regardless of the hotel category. In this case, the standards were unacceptable: the lift was filthy, the carpets were clearly uncleaned, and there were visible stains on the bathroom walls. This is simply a no-go. Pay a little bit more and choose another property. In the other hand, Tromso is a lovely place to visit and to enjoy.

Front desk Mr. Osama (Hope I spelled correct🥹) is very helpful and friendly. Smoothly checked in and recommended the local spot to see the new year fireworks. Free coffee in lobby and he refilled when there’s empty but the next day other ladies staff didn’t refill any. Free chocolate cake or croissant at lobby. The location is good. Room is small but expensive as peak season in Tromso🥹 ⚠️Don’t book via Agoda! Since Agoda sometimes missed to book the room so I directly email the hotel to confirm the booking abt 1 week advance. The hotel replied me that the booking was cancelled on the system. Therefore, I searched again and still booked this hotel due to the budget. I booked a higher price with same date and same name for single room. When I arrived checked in for the higher price booking. Unfortunately, after check out then I found Agoda charged me both first booking and the second booking.🫠🫠🫠 Tried to check with the hotel and Agoda again by email but no response then Agoda insisted to charge both payment. Feels like be scammed🥴 Reported to the card center already and hopefully I could get the refund successfully🥹

This was a fantastic hotel. We had a smart superior which I believe is a touch bigger than the regular rooms, and it had everything we needed. The location was incredible - not far to walk back at 2am after northern light tours! The breakfast was delicious and extensive with a lot of options. The workers were helpful and happily lent a hairdryer when the one in the room wasn’t working. We would recommend this to friends if they are ever lucky enough to visit Tromso.

Clean and comfortable, rooms are very small but cosy and warm. Close to all the main shops, restaurants and cafe, with a short stroll to the bus stops, meeting points for tours and the port. Quiet and basic facilities that work and functional, minimalistic. But rooms are cleaned every 4 days and asked for towels and cleaning, but they didn’t and left as it was. Who can survive with same towels and bedsheets for this long, not the best and perhaps better options elsewhere.

After 75+ Learning Experiences, one could say I am an experienced traveler. I have seen and slept in many hotels. OK, nothing beats the Wellington in New York, which was closed during COVID, but the Citybox Hotels in several Norwegian Cities, are on my fab-list too. Big Rooms? No, but just big enough to create a sense of home. There is always a small desk, to store my laptop and write reviews. A single bed is very convenient. Who needs more if you don't want to share beds with your fellow travelers. Breakfast is just magnificent. Apart from the fake-scrambled-eggs, everything is just what you wish for. Take a boiled egg, peel it, scramble it and enjoy. They also have a place near the reception where you can sit down and have drinks and talks. I will keep coming back to the Citybox Hotels with my groups. Nobody, never, complained. And, why sleep? The fun is outside anyway.

Clean place to sleep, with hot water, decent tv (I was there mid winter). Buffet breakfast available (good). 24 hour reception, with some beer and snacks for sale. Good location.

Warning! For people who have made a booking recently, Smarthotel Tromso has been hacked and the hackers have access to booking details and are sending WhatsApp messages trying to get personal and payment details. Please do not respond. Am not sure why hotel has not reached out to guests warning about this but please be aware if you receive a message

I have stayed in literally hundreds of budget hotels and this was the smallest yet. If you are a couple make sure you have a great relationship, and if you have a bag each logistics are fun. It was clean and tidy. The communal areas were reasonable and it seemed bringing your own good and drinks was OK. It was also central.

Yelp
I'm going to go ahead and give this hotel five stars. It's not considered a five star property, however the room was nice and clean, the staff was friendly and while the shower was small, it had great water pressure and that in itself deserves five stars! They serve breakfast and dinner downstairs. I did not partake in any of the dinner, but I did have breakfast each morning I was there and they had a nice selection of food at a very reasonable price.
