The hotel location is quite good. In fact, most hotels in Tromsø are well located, with the exception of the Moxy, which is on the other side of the island.
Smarthotel only cleans the rooms every fourth day. While this may be acceptable from a cost-saving and environmental perspective, guests should be aware that their room will not be cleaned during most short stays.
The rooms are small and narrow, and the bed is positioned with one side against the wall, meaning there is only access from one side. As a result, one person has to climb over their partner or companion to get in and out of bed.
I understand the intention behind reduced cleaning schedules for sustainability reasons; however, the room initially assigned to us was extremely dirty and had an unpleasant smell. We had no choice but to request an immediate room change and pay for an upgrade.
For me, cleanliness is non-negotiable, regardless of the hotel category. In this case, the standards were unacceptable: the lift was filthy, the carpets were clearly uncleaned, and there were visible stains on the bathroom walls. This is simply a no-go.
Pay a little bit more and choose another property.
In the other hand, Tromso is a lovely place to visit and to enjoy.
