"A scruffily bohemian bookshop-turned-performance space and bar that hosts poetry, comedy and live music; it features a fully stocked bar, simple snacks (toasted sandwiches, brownies), communal seating, an instrument wall where visitors can borrow instruments to join impromptu jams, and an anything-goes, democratic atmosphere open year-round." - Kendall Hill
A very friendly and welcoming place for anyone from various walks of life. The coffee is always good, the shows are diverse with a lot of free events to go to as well. The owners are great and it is always a go too for me. Check it out!

Cosy and interesting space with many activities going on. There are pianos you can play on and there are simple food and drink available for you. Great place to meet up with friends.

My favourite bar in Canberra. The drinks are good and reasonably priced, there’s often live music and it is very eclectic and cosy. I discover some weird decoration that I’ve never noticed before, every time I visit. Very welcoming staff and atmosphere

We had the best night watching world class musical acts in a perfect setting. Great sound mixed by Beavan and a friendly crowd of nice folk getting right into it. Could not have been a more perfect night out. Thanks!

Great atmosphere, lovely staff and a great venue to see live perfomances. A friend and I went to see the Six Degrees of Seperation: Freddy Mercury Tribute on the 15th of November and had a fantastic time. Smiths always has the best drinks (personal favourite - iced dirty chai). As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I always feel safe and welcome at Smiths.

Geniunely the most incredible little place in Canberra. You'll find the best musicians and artists here, there's a fantastic and vibrant community centered around this space. Kudos to Nigel and Beth for doing a brilliant job running the place, and a huge shoutout to Lex, the best bartender and friend!!

I found this Gem on my first time in Canberra, went on Friday evening and enjoyed live music with beautifully made Gin and Tonic.
It’s a place that gives you good vibe, check out calendar 🗓️ for special events on their website.
I would love to have such a good place in Sydney too.

Yelp
Supercute local bookshop, performance space, gallery, and coffeeshop! Lots of choice from outdoor seating to inside couches, chairs, and eclectic art. Stopped in for a coffee but looking forward to coming back for a live show sometime.

Yelp
So, it's listed as a bookshop but it has since become a low key bar and place to hang out. It has good live music and other performances. These usually involve buying a ticket but you can also just come, grab a simple beer and hang out on the comfortable seats outside instead of near the stage. It really is the perfect place to chill out - especially if you've just had hotpot across the street. Highly recommended.
