On the Grid : The Barras

"The infamous Barras Market is opened on weekends and is found in the East End of the city. You'll find an interesting and eclectic mix of (mostly second hand) items for sale, including bikes, instruments, incense, and tobacco to antiques, 70's tea-sets and boombox stereos, old hand-painted shop signs, taxidermy and classic G-plan furnishings — visit Randall's Antique's for the good stuff. The Barras site is under redevelopment for artist studio spaces and is also home to the Barrowlands music venue. A short 5 minute walk back towards Trongate will lead you to Jim Lambie's 'Album Pathway'. A coloured concrete path resembling records on a shelf, listing past gigs played at the Barrowlands." - Kenna

Great choice for comfort food, but avoid at busy times. We arrived on a Sunday for lunch, and had to wait 20 minutes for our order to be taken, and another 30 for the food to arrive. Starters were great, I loved the truffle mozzarella sticks. You can tell they’re made in house! Buffalo Chicken burger was ok. Chicken was perfectly fried, but unfortunately it was not spicy at all. Sauce was very sweet, it had no acidity or kick like buffalo should. Brunch items were delightful, especially the fried chicken on french toast. Worth a try.

We sat outside, which was nice, but the only downside was having to pop in to get the waiter's attention. That said, the staff were really friendly and polite. The Dirty Dipper and Chicken KFC burgers were absolutely delicious, though the vegetarian Korean chickpea patty was unfortunately quite dry. It's a bit on the expensive side, especially since fries are sold separately.

Smokey Trotters Glasgow — Highly Recommended! Me and my mate were up from Manchester and had an amazing meal at Smokey Trotters and honestly, I can’t recommend it enough. I went all in with the “Dip in Ma Nuts”, crispy chicken strips with a seriously tasty peanut dip, plus Snobby Fries loaded with truffle, parmesan, and all the good stuff, we shared some mozzarella sticks topped with sriracha honey and a Cheetos crumb. It was absolutely next level. The food was packed with flavour, the portions were generous, and the whole vibe of the place was spot on. Great tunes playing in the background, super chill atmosphere, and surprisingly reasonable prices for the quality and amount you get. If you’re in Glasgow and want a proper feast without breaking the bank, you need to check out Smokey Trotters. Already planning my next visit… genuinely!

Visited Smokey Trotters Kitchen recently and was seriously impressed. The food was absolutely packed with flavour — every bite delivered on taste. I had a tough time choosing between the burgers (they all sounded incredible), but the server was fantastic — friendly, patient, and genuinely helpful in guiding me to the right choice. Great food, great service, and I’ll definitely be back to try more!

Titkok famous place, I felt like I can't miss this if I am in Glasgow. 📍Place: you can actually walk here from the downtown, takes around 15 minutes. It has some seats inside and outside as well. The vibes and atmosphere are great although the music is a little too loud. 🍛 Food: I had the Dirty Dipper, even though I was thinking twice, but then I took the courage. It is basically a big fat bomb, with beef patty, cheese, haggis patty, a generous amount of peppercorn sauce and some fried onions. You need to grab the burger, dip it to the sauce, then the onions, take a bite and iterate. I have never tried a haggis before, it tasted alright and overall it was great - till the 3rd bite. After that your heart and stomack are basically fighting for their life, so ⚠️share one, don't try it alone!⚠️ 👩🏻‍🍳 Service: service was a little slow and not too enthusiastic but overall it's fine.

If you have thought about going here but you keep putting it off like we did then make sure you visit because everything was amazing from start to finish. The feel of the shop is very quirky and there is loads to look at. The food was out of this world, chicken was so thick and juicy and sides were phenomenal, I would definitely recommend as we will be back soon to try more from the amazing menu. 🙌
