Smoky Kitchen BBQ is hands down the greatest late-night BBQ I've ever had. With 3 guys, 2 smokers, 2 deep frying pots, and a truck, the operation seems to primarily serve workers in Grady Hospital, downtown emergency services, and local construction. They open around 11:30 PM each weekday with a whiteboard of food options, and they erase food options from the whiteboard as they run out of items until they close around 4 AM. Options for meats vary by day but include ribs, sausage, grilled and fried chicken (tenders, thighs and wings!), and fried seafood. The sides seem to run out faster: mac & cheese, million-dollar spaghetti, baked beans, and and more. They accept cash and card.
I got a spicy sausage on a bun ($3) and pork rib tips ($8). The sausage was flavorful and legitimately spicy. I appreciate that they had tartar sauce as a condiment option! The pork rib tips came in a huge portion with 2 slices of white bread and an optional tomato-based BBQ sauce. While I couldn't detect any smoky flavor, the ribs were tender and flavorful. I was delighted to eat this on a windowsill.
These guys are doing the noble task of feeding many medical workers in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. There are very few restaurants operating after midnight during this crisis, and these guys are drawing small crowds from across the street. As a certified night owl, I plan on biking over here often.
Their only online presence seems to be their Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/smokykitchenbbq/
