Funky local establishment offering all day dining The in-house breakfast porridge took me back to my childhood. The eggs Benedict with smoked salmon is generous, tasty and well presented. The coffee is strong and the apple juice tall. Service is friendly and tables well spaced. It's very popular on weekends so it may pay to book if you are are larger group.

I was pretty excited to dine here, I liked the aesthetic of the venue and the options for food. But goddamn was the service bad, I arrived, no service, I walked to the desk thinking maybe I need to order there and they told me the full menu is “table service” so I grabbed a menu and sat down. When I was ready to order I looked over at the counter with the waiter and waitress, I kept looking, I turned my chair to face them and kept looking. After about 30 mins finally someone came to take my order. AND IT WASNT JUST ME! The guy sitting next to me ordered a steak sandwich. Waited and it never came, turned out his order just got lost in the ether. How did I remember it better than the staff? And it’s not like this is a big place either, it’s literally one room and some outdoor seating. I’ve worked in hospo so I have some sympathy but this was pretty bad service.

overpriced for what the quality of the food was very dry gnocchi and has to ask the waiter for my drinks twice because he forgot the vanilla thick shake is good though :)

I booked for a mother's day lunch for my mother and aunts, the female waitress became was racist, rude and condescending and told them they had no booking, she raised her voice when telling them they had no booking and had the whole restaurant looking at them whilst she treated them like they weren't worth her time. A male waiter came and comfirmed they had a booking, they had booked for 4 but due to an emergency had had to bring my cousin, the female waitress said the booking was for 4 not 5 and was very condescendingly loud about it when they tried to explain, the male waitress took them to their seats in the end and was very apologetic (which was the only reason they ended up staying). When they went to pay she refused to serve them walked off and loudly told the male waiter who was in the back "they are ready to pay". The whole experience with the waitress was filed with microaggressions and racism and I would urge anyone who is a POC, especially black women to avoid this establishment. I'm so appalled that the one day these lovely mothers had to finally celebrate, they were treated so poorly, they should be ashamed of themselves

Gosh, the photo already says a lot, but the omelette was as aesthetically pleasing as afterbirth, and was similarly inedible. Being surrounded by a cacophony of loud, morbidly overweight patrons, swearing incessantly, really topped it off. The standard of food in Hobart has really fallen off a cliff in recent years and I think Smolt may have been the first to jump.

Enjoyed our dinner at this consistently good local cafe. Half price parmies with any drink purchase on Wednesday nights is a good deal. Garlic pizza delicious as was the pork sausage and mushroom pizza. Beef burger got 10/10 too! Friendly staff and quick service. Recommend booking as it was full on a Wed night.

Yelp
Smolt Kitchen, I'm a fan! Despite being in a kind of weird location (though I am all for good dining in suburban spots), this spot is light and airy and a perfect funky little bistro. The fit-out makes me smile. It's almost like a laundromat. The service is cheerful, and after just one visit I was ready to be adopted by the woman who looked after me on my solo lunch voyage. I stuffed my face full of some delicious meat and the most delicious smashed potatoes, and washed them all down with a bloody mary (though I will admit, of those, I've had better). Now I'm looking at my photo of those potatoes again, I gotta get back to SK ASAP...

Yelp
What do you get when you mix minimalism and a Scandanavian playground? Answer- the graphic decor of Smolt kitchen with its geometric lines and bold splashes of red, yellow and green. It's got a welcoming open plan design and port holes to look into the kitchen to see where the magic happens. This is a hard look to pull off without looking too mismatched and kooky, but Smolt's strong attention to detail and artful planning earns it top marks. Dishing up European and South American inspired meals, they also highlight local Tasmanian produce at its finest. The menu reflects seasonal produce and supports sustainable and ethical farming practices. I enjoyed my spiced dukkah eggs with rice salad and avocado which waa fresh, filling and ideal for summer. Overall the food is farm to table with lots of love. Smolt is good for everyone from caffeine addicts, organic smoothie goers, wine drinkers, nibblers, brunchers and kids. If I could bottle up the child like energy and buzz, I would spritz myself daily

Yelp
Yum! It's not often that I look at a menu and wants one of everything. Smolt offers an excellent array of deliciousness, fulfilling portions and food that made my tummy smile. One visit was not enough. I'm coming back for more.

Yelp
It's good to be welcomed with an hello. It's good to be served excellent coffee. It's good to enjoy the breakfast meals as much as we did. It's good to be a regular but sadly I've only tomorrow's breakfast at this excellent diner before I head home.

Yelp
Disappointing and overpriced menu. Decor feels like ikea cafeteria, not quirky just cheap. Such a shame as the bones of the building and cafe have great potential. Smolt Salamanca nails it but Smolt West Hobart misses its demographic.

Yelp
What an odd choice for West Hobart. Have they done their community demographics research ? Wouldn't a Melbourne style cafe suit this authentic WH dwelling better - instead it seems we have landed a kids playroom (although the outside is stylish). Have only tried the coffee at this stage (up to scratch) and viewed the menu which seems short (hopefully this suggests quality). Great light and spacious feeling with ceiling and floor upgrades. Is it a bar, cafe, restaurant ? - it seems they tried to capture all three - hope for their sake it takes off.
