Smoo Cave Hotel

Didn't stay in a room here, but the food, local culture and drinks were great! I highly recommend paying a visit! The place is quaint and cosy with a great atmosphere. The place is warm and welcoming.

Frances, who I believe is the owner, was wonderful. They were only taking reservations through email or phone calls, and Frances booked me through email. She was very generous with her flexibility and terms of booking. We ended up calling last minute to ask to check in one night early, and thankfully, she had room. Our room was lovely - a queen sized bed and a twin sized bed, and a nice, cozy bathroom, satellite TV. Very clean, plenty of warm water. Chloe checked us in after-hours, and she was wonderful - great sense of humor and very kind. All of the hotel employees made us feel very at home and were happy to help us in any way. The other guests in the bar were friendly, too. The food was very good, and the hotel also has a cozy sun room that is very welcome when it is cold, windy, and rainy outside. Breakfasts were fantastic, prepared and served by a very nice man. We visited Smoo Cave while we were there, and it was really neat, although we couldn't purchase a boat tour into the cave because the water was too high inside that day, unfortunately. We also twice enjoyed hot chocolate and sweets at nearby Cocoa Mountain Balnakeil. The countryside there is breathtaking - vast, hilly, and green. We really enjoyed our stay at Smoo Cave Hotel and would definitely love to stay there again.

Great range of local drinks and food. Locally caught fish. My favourite is the monk fish. Cajun chicken, scallops or crab starters, watch the Footie or play pool and darts. Great place to see the sun setting. The staff are friendly as are the locals.

We stayed in the annexe and although the room was large, there were a few issues. We had to figure out how to get hot water (find the switch at the door). The sink in the bathroom was unusable as the water did not drain properly. The shower was erratic, switching between very hot and then cold. We also reported that the tv wasn't working but nobody fixed any of the issues. Dinner was excellent and breakfast also first class. Staff were lovely but overall we were disappointed with the stay which was expensive (most expensive of the six places we stayed at over our NC500 week).

Great little pub for a bite. Super friendly staff. Get the fish and chips and a few Tenants after exploring Smoo Cave and the adjacent cliffs. The Man City memorabilia on the wall is an added bonus!

Smoo Cave Hotel definitely has a ski lodge feel to it. Awesome little bar area and a side room with comfy chairs and a fireplace. The rooms were spacious and decent facilities. The dinner menu was surprisingly quite diverse with loads of options. The sweet and sour chicken with rice was amazing and the desserts were delicious! Breakfast menu offers cereals and a cooked breakfast made to order. The staff are super friendly. The hotel offers beautiful views and is about a 15min walk down to the Smoo Cave. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Excellent place to stay, Safe parking for motorbikes round the back. Staff were super friendly and couldn't do enough for us. We even managed to peg our wet swimming gear on their washing line. Highly recommend

We didn't stay but visited the bar/restaurant twice: really excellent local bar; friendly staff, local beers, good food with both pub and seafood options. Down to earth community place. Very handy for the coastal attractions and hiking routes.
