We stayed at the Smou Cave Hotel on the North Coast 500 route, which is very dog friendly. Our ground floor room was spacious, sleeping three people comfortably, with a large modernised disabled-access shower room and plenty of space overall. The staff were extremely helpful and welcoming. The location of the hotel is excellent, with plenty of nearby places to walk the dogs. The whole place was clean, the Wi-Fi worked brilliantly, and dogs are welcome everywhere. The food was very good, with breakfast offering a wide choice and setting us up well for the day. I highly recommend this hotel for all travellers — especially those travelling with dogs. And disabled people

We stayed at Smoo Cave Hotel for two nights and happened to be there during Storm Amy, so we spent almost a whole day indoors. Huge thanks to the owner and team for looking after us so warmly—the place truly has a home-from-home feel. Our room was cosy and spotless, and the on-site pub with pool table and darts kept us happily entertained while the weather passed. Breakfast and dinner were excellent—tasty, generous, and just what you want after a day on the road. The location is perfect too: a short walk to Smoo Cave and a great base for the NC500 north coast. We felt relaxed and well cared for throughout. Highly recommended.

The Smoo Cave Hotel was a happy accident for us. We were on our way to Lochinver when we stranded with a flat tire with our rental. It gave us the opportunity to experience some excellent Northern Scottish hospitality. Via some super friendly locals we ended up in The Smoo Cave Hotel and they welcomed us warmly. We had a clean room with beautiful view and a comfy bed. In the morning Hugh cooked us a delicious breakfast and he helped us by getting us in contact with the local garage. Hugh even gave us a lift to the location where we had left our car the previous evening. So you see: even in a bad situation the lovely staff of The Smoo Cave Hotel make it a good one. Thanks, Hugh, Francis and staff!

We were staying locally and ate here most nights. Meals were excellent and reasonably prices - catered for gf. Staff and locally were friendly. Frances went to great lengths to help anyone staying in the hotel. Would highly recommend.

My first visit on 05/07/25, and it was so enjoyable. The owners and staff are fantastically helpful and approachable; my room had amazing views and was immaculate and so comfortable, and the food was delicious. Smoo Cave Hotel has the atmosphere of a warm community place in the middle of remoteness, where tourists and local people mingle extremely easily. I will certainly be back! Already plotting for next year. My one mistake was booking for only one night, for all this area has to offer, two or three are better.

Lovely welcoming spotlessly clean hotel. Great service from all the staff particularly the waiting staff who were delightful and exceptionally helpful. We enjoyed the fresh fish and the beer/ cider. |Durness is an incredible place. Quite a ride up here but well worth the trip.

The most rude person behind the bar & in the kitchen, short staffed but does not excuse the rudeness towards new customers. I have never experienced anything like this, having worked in hospitality sector myself this guy needs to work on his customer focus skills. The chef said he does not have time for customers and even told one of our group to go away little boy. Would avoid this hotel and restaurant at all costs

Very warm and welcoming bar staff and dog friendly. Excellent Coast To Coast ale. Battered Monkfish was very good. Just about the only place to eat out in Durness but would recommend it, whether for a meal or just drinks and crisps!
