Smugglers Rest

We stayed here last minute and it was absolutely perfect. Irene was very accommodating, pricing was reasonable and the location beautiful. I saw some negative review on here which was surprising, this is advertised as self contained 3 star accommodation, not a 5 star hotel. It's a perfect place to stop in, grab some rest and enjoy the views.

Smugglers Rest is located near the sea and the 2 bedroom apartment that we stayed in has water views. I think it is under a new owner who is giving the motel a new look. Hence the 2 room apartment has a new coat of paint (better colour than the one shown in older photos) and has a fully equipped kitchen for us to cook our meals as there’re not many food options around for dinner. Toiletries and fresh linens are provided. The heater is in the living room only. No heaters in the bedrooms but there are Electric blankets on the beds. Communal washing machine is located in the shed behind the apartment (I only discovered it when we were checking out as no staff was around throughout our stay!) The location is convenient for us to get to Hastings Caves in the morning without too much of a rush.

Amazing experience, had to find a place to stay at the last minute, Irene was wonderful. We stayed in the family unit, the unit is beautiful! Far exceeded our expectations, it’s absolutely stunning, with water views from the lounge. Had all the ammenities and extras bits and pieces we could’ve needed. 10/10 would stay again!

Certainly nothing major wrong with the accommodation. Shine comes of the experience when you add together a number of minor annoyances, especially at the current price point. Self container accommodation in an area known for having shortage of dining options is a huge bonus but not one single condiment, salt pepper or seasoning in the place. We were rationed to 2 rolls of toilet paper for a three night stay, the pillows are well past their replacement date and having to choice between total darkness or absolutely no privacy in the bedroom and main area is an annoyance especially as the windows are a mere metre or so from the footpath. The over length curtains are dirty and need reconsidering. My top personal annoyance is the plethora of laminated passive aggressive signs telling you what to do and not to do, if these are to exist they can at least be spelt correctly. All in it's convenient, bathroom has been remodelled, great water pressure. A skirt or cover on mattress bases and deep clean would make a big difference.

Loved our stay. Cute little fully contained unit. Very clean with everything you need. Gorgeous views great fishing. Great location to visit Hastings caves. The hosts went to great lengths to make us feel comfortable. Close to Hastings caves, the airwalk near Geeveston and Southport. We will return.

Great place, great hosts. Our unit had 2 rooms. One room had a queen and the 2nd had two single beds overlooking the water. Room very comfy and clean, couldn't fault. There is a beautiful garden and BBQ area out the back, bikes to ride and close to all services within Dover. I will certainly return.

We booked Smugglers' Rest at the last minute after previous accommodation fell through. What a delight and total surprise. Right from our arrival, the owner was friendly and helpful. We were also given an upgrade which added to our delight. The views from our apartment were stunning, looking out across the bay. It was the perfect place to stay. It was comfortable and had all the facilities we needed. It was clean and tidy. The owner also provided us with great tips on where to eat. Am already planning on returning again! Would recommend this accommodation to anyone looking for a delightful, quiet place to stay.
