"Snappy’s, North Center. Snappy’s shrimp house is a great little “hole in the wall” fast-food seafood joint situated in the heart of the North Center neighborhood. Whether you’re looking to grab some grub to go or you want to kick back and people watch, Snappy’s won’t disappoint. Friendly staff and reasonable prices are two other reasons to check this place out. Pro tip: There’s no messing around with the intensity of their sauces, hot means HOT."

Staff is extremely friendly and quick to turnaround orders. It's a small establishment with several tables and high top seating next to the window. Shrimp Po Boy Sandwich: The sandwich was a decent size and came with shrimp, pickles, shredded lettuce, and a remoulade sauce. I ordered mine with no tomato. The sandwich was flavorful and the shrimp was fresh. The sauce also carried an added kick which was really good. I recommend getting an extra side of remoulade sauce so you can put more on if you like. Hush Puppies: A side order comes with 10 hush puppies and oh boy are they good! You can hear the cook deep frying them in front of you so you know you're in for a treat. They come with a side of honey butter but you can pop these in your mouth without anything they're so tasty. Crab Cake: I got a side order of crab cake and they are massive. They could almost be considered a meal. They are flavorful and the breaded crust provides the perfect crunch and contrast to the crab filling. I'll be back to try even more of their menu items.

The food was decent. I ordered half pound shrimp It was $12 and a pound of catfish almost $17 and then they up charge for coleslaw and they didn’t let me know that in the beginning will be back no. overall my Entire bill was $36 a little bit too pricey but that’s the Northside for you… Basically, I’ve had better for the price I paid then they got the nerve to say they’ve been in business for 20 years. I don’t see how. I’m just saying.

This is very good place to stop by . Has variety of shrimps and their food is very good . This place is family owned restaurant. Miguel and his wife is very friendly and welcome you smile on their face.and price is reasonable. Well Recommended here

Spouse was craving a shrimp po’boy and Captain Shrimp served up a great one! I had the crab cake sandwich and it was almost too much. We did get the fries and hushpuppies because that’s what you do when they’re available and they were really good. Their sauces were good and I found myself partial to their hot sauce though their tartar sauce was also really good. Favorite new place for fried seafood and will be back again.

Google
I ordered a 1/4 lb shrimp combo here. I can’t say if something was wrong with the food in particular, however it could be much better in terms of the portion, the size of jumbo shrimp and the way they should be fried. The location is good, prices are a little high. Also they got cheap drinks in the fridge and as you can see in the photo, there is not anything from Coke or Pepsi family.

Jaime Q.

Google
Haven't been here since it was Scrappy shrimp and only stoped to wait for my son by the train and walked in not much has changed no frills atmosphere. Ordered basic 1lb shrimp seemed heavily breaded and when asked for some water there was none available...no cups no water just like that..don't remember a sorry..seemed very odd..and quite uncomfortable after that exchange.

Came into Captain Shrimp today to find out they’re under new management and better than ever ! Food is great! Vibes are amazing! I really enjoyed the Shrimp Po’Boy .. the food was so great I couldn’t get a full pic

Yelp
I saw this place just driving by and I needed a quick snack. The people were plenty friendly. Ordering was easy. The jumbo shrimp were fairly priced. However, there was no seasoning in the breading or on the shrimp. That's fine if you like that but I was hoping for more in the flavor category. It just wasn't there for me. Good place in a pinch.

Yelp
new owners but same good quality and service we pick up a bite to eat here when bowling at Timber Lanes. their Jerk Chicken Wrap is spicy, as it should and the Marinated Chicken Wrap was delicious. the girl usually gets the Shrimp Wrap and some Clam Strips.

Jayden A.

Yelp
The food is amazing good flavors and at a good price. Recommend Cajun shrimp wrap or just the jumbo shrimp. The service is top tier hard workers especially the guy who handled my food and quick and kind.

Yelp
Wahoo! This place is super super super good! They don't get five stars and let me explain the good and the bad. The food is on .5 stars. The bathroom is through the kitchen... Literally next to the guy that is shocking, the shrimp... One star Parking is pretty easy, being it's on the street. Overall, it's pretty close to the Cubs stadium and a quick drive over... Or a fairly good walk. Four stars. Price for the amount of food..., So value, three stars. Drink options , one star. Food menu options, four stars. The owner of the business is fairly new... And the person behind the counter, making the food and take any orders is the owner's cousin. So I think anybody that has been there before should definitely come back to see if the experience and the food and the flavors are the same?? I'm not quite sure because I've never been there before. I do like that every single shrimp is fresh and peeled to order... However, I don't like that it is literally 2 feet from the bathroom, ( that's how I know they peel Each shrimp to order .... Lol) I have to say the service here was pretty on point! Everybody was very accommodating and extremely helpful. When you come in to order... Make sure to bring your pocketbook and order a little something extra... The price compared to the amount of food that you get is not quite balanced. I feel like I should have gotten twice the amount of food for the amount that I actually paid. There's not very many drink options... So you're gonna wanna come here for the food and not the drinks, lol. Also, this place is extremely small. So if you're planning on eating inside, make sure that you come early enough so that there's seating available. You of course can always grab your shrimp Poboy and pop a squat on the curb outside of the restaurant... but that's not really my thing. Anyway, check it out... Let me know for those of you guys that have been there before if the flavors and the price and the value are the same as they were before... I'm curious to see ...

Yelp
DO NOT EAT THIS FOOD! These new owners purchased this business from the longtime previous owner, who was fabulous and friendly, and cared about every detail of his business provided delicious food that had regular visitors. The new owners are extremely unfriendly, arrogant low-key, hostile, and have served me spoiled cooked calamari. Yesterday, I visited the restaurant for my usual order of calamari and was told that I could not use my debit card, next time, or they would have to charge me a two dollar fee added to the price of calamari, for the use of debit card. That was the last straw for me. Their prices are already outrageous. Furthermore who wants food from angry owners!

Yelp
Best deep-fried shrimp I've had in Chicago always get at least a half a pound along with the catfish. Took my eight-year-old there and he loved it. The song says are just another added recommendation for anybody wanting to try a great carry out. Shrimp shop.

Yelp
Chicago does a lot of things well, but seafood for some reason isn't a strength. It's mind boggling considering we border a Great Lake. Sure I wouldn't expect shrimp, but it's virtually impossible to find fresh grilled fish. Bass, perch, whitefish, trout are all plentiful in Lake Michigan. ..I digress. You won't fish grilled fish at Snappy's, but you will find Chicago Style Shrimp. Some might find the breading a little heavy. Snappy's doesn't bread like Lawrence's. It's similar to Frank's l, Troha's and Red Hot's. They also have fried fish, clams, scallops, and wings. Sandwiches, salads, and wraps round out the menu. 3.5 overall. Not a bad option if you're in the neighborhood and craving fried seafood. However, if you are in the neighborhood. .. Little Bad Wolf is nearby and they have some of the best shrimp in Chicago.

Rollo T.

Yelp
Best shrimp in Chicago! Always good and fresh! Love this place for years and years. Good service.

Antonio

Yelp
The service was great, and the were better. I recommend this restaurant to anyone. Thanks, captain shrimp.

Marie D.

Yelp
Unfortunately the shrimp isn't the same as the old owners. Every shrimp in my order was a different size & every one was so over cooked from the smallest to the largest. They were like hard rubber. The sauce was the same/good. Breading was nice crispy & golden brown but overall had a metallic taste. Really disappointed. Might give them 1 more try, but again the cook time on the shrimp is Essential !!

Yelp
[COVID-19 Take Out review] The establishment is taking precautions to COVID-19. The cashier does have a plexiglass in front of the register. There's hand sanitizer next to the cashier and you don't need to sign the receipt after running your credit card (unfortunately, you still have to hand your card to the cashier even if you have the tap to go credit card feature). They don't take credit card payment over the phone. The service is quick (each time we have ordered for take out, the order was ready within 15 minutes), but they're not the most enthusiastic or friendly. - 1/2 pound shrimp (~8 shrimps). The shrimps are pretty large, and the breading of the shrimp is pretty average. However, they were delicious with the spicy sauce (served as a dip on the side). The shrimps itself does not have much flavor. If dipping sauce isn't spicy personally, but if you're afraid of potential heat, then there's the option to having BBQ sauce and a couple other options that I can't quite remember. -Hushpuppies (~10 hushpuppies per order). One thing that makes the hushpuppies so delicious is the honey butter!! Absolutely a wonderful complement to the savory deep fried batter. -1/2 pound Wings- these were okay! I wouldn't order them again because there wasn't much flavor to the wings personally. Surprisingly, nothing was greasy!

Yelp
It's just ok . A bit dry and the onion rings were plain awful. Lots of breading and not much fish .
google avatar

Ryan G.

Yelp
I've ordered from here a few times this year and I've always enjoyed my experience. The Cajun shrimp wrap is one of my favorites, and the hush puppies are amazing. That honey butter dipping sauce for the hush puppies.... I'd buy a jar of that. The fried shrimp are great too, and the jerk chicken wrap is solid, though the jerk flavor is actually a little overpowering for me. Their hot sauce is actually pretty spicy, so if you aren't huge in spice it might be best to get it on the side. Every time I've ordered the food is ready in 10 minutes and the pickup process is quick and painless. Do yourself a favor and get food from here next time you want an affordable, delicious meal!

Yelp
Food was great- the wraps are delicious and the beverages are cold they serve RC, a beverage classic

Yelp
Snappy sure knows shrimp! If you just want some really delicious fried shrimp (with great cocktail and hot sauces) this is the place to go. Fries are also good! Carry out, dining is very limited.

Yelp
Snappy's is a great place for takeout if you are craving fried seafood and is a great addition to the neighborhood! Everything is made fresh to order and all of the seafood is made in house which I love. I've ordered the Jumbo Fried Shrimp (labeled as Chicago's best Jumbo Shrimp), clam strips, and crab cakes. Everything we ordered I would say was very good quality of seafood and all tasted so fresh. Also another great thing about Snappy's, the seafood is wild caught as opposed to farm raised and in my opinion, that makes a big difference in the taste and quality. The shrimp is specially caught in the GULF which they also proudly call out in the restaurant. They also have non-seafood products, if you are in the mood for something else (Chicken) but I would highly suggest ordering their specialty in seafood. I wasn't too fond of the sauces they served particularly the hot & mild. It seemed to have a bbq based which I wasn't the biggest fan but I did really like the tartar sauce. Snappy's location is perfectly centralized and very close to the train station. I know I stumbled upon this place walking through the neighborhood. I'm really excited to come back and try the other specialty seafood on the menu and all at a very reasonable price!

Yelp
Fried Shrimp is Fantastic! Love their breading on the shrimp and their not small. Use to live close now it's about a 20min drive definitely worth it!!

Yelp
We were driving down Irving Park on our way to parking for a Cubs game and needed something fast, good and inexpensive. Captain Shrimp fit the bill. Got a 1/4 lb scallop + combo with fries, coleslaw and a can of pop, side of clam strips and one crabcake for under $20! Ordered online while driving from Lake Shore. Everything was hot and ready. Coleslaw was perfect (like KFC-our favorite). All were good tasting albeit a little heavy on the breading but really good flavor and crunch. Crinkle cut crispy fries but were fried with seafood, I didn't mind but my wife would have preferred that it didn't. Clam strips reminded us of Howard Johnson restaurant's clam strips- yum (or any of you that are old enough and know the reference). Next time in town and in the area, will need to try the shrimp.

Yelp
Really really good shrimp! Held up well on the ride home. Good spice to the wings. Will come back!

Gene G.

Yelp
On 4/27/23, I ordered fried shrimp, and a fish sandwich. The shrimp were tasty, after I removed the thick layer of breading. The fish sandwich was good. I will probaly not return, as the thick layer of breading was a major turn-off. Customers pay more for the breading, than the shrimp.
google avatar

Liat N.

Yelp
Snappy's exceeded my shrimpectations. After many bad experiences ordering shrimp and getting a paltry number of 'em, I was more than satisfied with the amount in my shrimp wrap. Props to Snappy's for that and the price was right. No frills atmosphere. I would have liked about 20% more energy in their customer service. I get that it's a chill place and I don't expect them to be thrilled to take my order, but maybe a friendly greeting. They don't offer tap water to drink which was unusual. Overall would definitely come back and try some more things.

Yelp
Food is great, staff are good people. Owner/manager needs to get with the program. It's a carry-out place, now & pre-virus. Employees - no masks, no gloves, can't pre-pay over the phone. When in the restaurant, They have to take the card from you (using hands) to swipe. Then they hand you a pen to sign the little scrap of receipt paper (yes ... back to early 90's). Other counter service places that are open have installed plexi-glass between the cash register & the guests to protect their employees. So Snappy Manage - spend 30 minutes to fix this. Phone call to your credit card processor, then order some masks online. They are available!

Yelp
Rosa J. and Daddy J. weren't hungry, but they wanted something to snack on before heading home during rush hours in the city. Snappy' Shrimp House, one (1) block west from the CTA Irving Park Brown Line station, allows items to be ordered on a 1/4-pound scale, like a "sampler" style. I thought this was good for our need since we didn't want a full-sized dinner combo. We went with a quarter-pound of scallops and a quarter-pound of jumbo shrimps. I thought the scallops were slightly sloppy, yet the jumbo shrimps were solid. The breading was firm; the seafood appeared fresh. I assumed that this corner joint was spacious enough for many tables, but it didn't seem to be the case. There were five (5) high stools along the window and one (1) table for patrons. Honestly, I would say this place is more convenient for take-out purposes if you live in the neighborhood.
google avatar

Nick S.

Yelp
I find it very bizarre that Snappy's Greasy Shrimp has so many positive reviews. This place is awful. The fryer oil hasn't been changed since 'nam. The portions are done by weight, yet 70% of the of the "fried shrimp" is bottom tier breading. You can't even taste the shrimp over the mile thick breading and age old fryer oil, but it would probably be sub-par if you could. Nothing is fresh here. All seafood sits in frozen blocks. Definitley not worth your time if you have any self respect. The only reason it qualified for a second star is because they have a sauce variety.

Yelp
Looking for lunch today on the north side and decided to stop by this establishment. I am a southsider so I know of dozens of places to get some good fried shrimp, but the reviews were okay enough for me to try. Well..I ended up trying the grilled shrimp wrap. Flavor is pretty good and has a hint of spice to it thanks to the andoulle sausages in the wrap (I didn't get the hot sauce). Wish I didn't have to spend $7 but I guess that's standard these days. I would try it again.
google avatar

Steph S.

Yelp
This place makes the best fried shrimp. Big pieces, nice and crunchy. Great sauces to go with it! Nice people that work there too!
google avatar

Kendra M.

Yelp
I was SO pleasantly surprised by Snappy's when I came for lunch last week. The shabby exterior and the empty interior had me wondering what I agreed to. The doubt started going away when I saw how much food comes with a meal - fries, a side, a drink, and extra sauce?? I don't actually eat shrimp so I had the jerk chicken wrap, but it was MASSIVE and the jerk chicken was really flavorful. Plus there was rice in the wrap which was amazing. I also had their hot sauce which I'm pretty sure is homemade, and it was really unique and delicious. I'll definitely be back here for lunch!

Angie C.

Yelp
Fantastic fried shrimp - you can tell the high quality of the shrimp (which come from the US Gulf) because they "burst" a little bit when you bite into them. So fresh! Hush puppies are great too. I'll be back.

Charlie P.

Yelp
As a local from the neighborhood, I have been going to Snappy's for over 10 years. It's unfortunate to see the quality control of the carry out service decline, since the owner's son took over. The food remains consistent, however the last 4 times I have ordered they forgot something from the order 3 out of 4 times. When I called this to the manger (owner's son) attention, his response was "So stop ordering from here." Pretty sure the old adage in Chicago rings true at any level. It's the food that gets them in the door, but the service that keeps them coming back." Sadly, I will not be returning with the numerous fast food options in Chicago.

Yelp
What a bummer. I wanted so badly to have nothing but good things to say about this place, but alas, that's not my reality. Two stars for the customer service being stellar. I went to this place today, 3/6/16, after spotting it on my way back to the brown line. Ambiance was akin to a burger stand. To wit, Nothing special, but it appeared clean and uncluttered. Great. Food prices seemed reasonable. I ordered 1/2 lb. of scallops, fries and potato salad. My order came up in a few minutes. Looked appetizing. I was hungry so I promptly commenced consuming it. About half way through, however, I found a hair lodged in the fried skin of one of the scallops. After all the customers cleared out (about a minute or so following my discovery) I immediately brought it over to the bar for the cashier to see. I showed him with the fork how it was lodged under the skin and fried in, and not something that may have fallen on top. Obviously my appetite was shot contemporaneously. He immediately apologized and offered me a refund. He was very kind about it, so I'll give him that. I took my money and left. Probably not coming back, notwithstanding his sweetness because that was unsettling.

Yelp
I'm from Houston texas just moved here but there food is really great shrimp taste really yummy and the slaw is really great as well I'll return to this place soon :)

Yelp
This review is for the food only. A friend went to get it to-go. She bought shrimp, chicken tenders and fries. Overall, tasty. The breading on the shrimp is "standard" meaning it really doesn't have flavor to allow the flavor of the shrimp to shine through. The shrimp were, again, tasty. The chicken tenders were surprisingly tasty as well. Different breading and looked liked the frozen chicken tenders you see at many fast food restaurants; but, again tasty - looks aren't everything. Fries did not appear fresh cut and blanched; more the frozen variety; but, again, were tasty. While I have add fried shrimp which I prefer more-so due to the fine taste of the shrimp ALONG with the seasonings in the breading and/or the sauce which is served with it, I would eat at Snappy's again. I wouldn't necessarily drive across the city for it though. I am glad I had and now know I'd stop in for some food + likely to try other items on the menu.
google avatar

Yelp
It's exactly what you'd expect; similar to other fried seafood places with a whole lot of it, however the prices are steeper. I guess that's to be expected when there are no other spots around the area like it. The service was nice enough but the cashier seemed inexperienced. They messed up my order by charging me for extra shrimp but right as I pointed it out, they realized they made a mistake and refunded my money immediately. They fixed it by giving me a free soda which was good, however as I got home I realized they forgot my side order of clam strips. Oh well. On to the food; since it was my first time I sampled a little bit of everything. The shrimp was ok. They were meaty with ample breading but you can tell it's frozen. The fish chips and chicken strips were ok. Nothing special as they're probably from the same distributor that provide a lot of the generic frozen fried goods to greasy Chicago grills. The crinkle cut fries were a bit dry and the coleslaw was basic. The best part about all of it was the hush puppies with honey butter. Oddly enough they didn't include tartar or cocktail sauce - just this generic spicy sauce. I guess tartar and cocktail are extra and by request. Even a small 1oz tub of cole slaw is extra. Overall they ought to take a play out of the Long John Silver or fast food play book and have combos or sampler platters for single or dual diners instead of everything being a la carte but I guess they're catering more to family style dining. I really wanted to like it but I don't think it's worth the price point. Plus the way they have the food separated doesn't suit me. The only thing it has going for it is that it's somewhat close to those in North Center Lincoln Square and unique enough to the area.

Yelp
The jumbo fried shrimp is the bomb!! I think they make the best tarter sauce. But caution, their shrimp is vey hot when they give it to you and if you bite it, as soon as it's served, you may burn your palate (you need it for yelping dude). The hot oil burned my mouth twice but it's too tasty to wait. Staff is really friendly too!

Dale G.

Yelp
New to the neighborhood and got the shrimp wrap today. Really hit the spot so I will be back to try more things on the menu.

Yelp
From the shrimp, to the cajun shrimp wrap, to the Snappy's Shrimp sign out front, to just the general sense that I was becoming a shrimp by being inside for an hour, I loved my first Snappy's experience this week. I probably wouldn't order the hush puppies again; they were OK but the sauce that comes with the puppies didn't turn me on. Otherwise, stellar food, and if it's empty inside, it's possible to dine in. We dropped $32 for food for two adults and a child, so I was very happy with the value proposition at this joint. Looking forward to a return visit!

Yelp
It is good when you get the right thing. They keep rotating staff and you never know what you're going to get when you order. They consistently put the wrong stuff on the wraps + sandwiches. This was never an issue but it has been happening way way too often within the last 6 months. About 80% of the time, you get home and it's wrong. Or something was left out of the bag. Or you get charged for something that was supposed to be included. They don't have people working here consistently who learn to make the stuff right. I was a Snappy's fan for a very long time, coming in several times a week for many years - but I've started going elsewhere because of this issue. Focus on training people to make stuff right.
google avatar

Robert G.

Yelp
Every time that I have had hushpuppies they have been mediocre, except at this location! The spices and ingredients that are in use within the hush puppy recipe should not be amended without customer approval. Inexplicably I've ordered and eaten tasteless hushpuppies dozens of times before at dozens of other restaurants. It must be the draw of fried food, perhaps it's a psychological condition? The shrimp was very good, the wrap was delightful, but the hushpuppies stand on their own and YOU should order them. Recommended.

Yelp
Fourth time is the charm. Step back, Calumet. Get plucked, Goose Island. I have found my fried shrimp home. There are no greasy walls or shack-like accoutrements to be seen here. Nope. All you'll find is a big open space, friendly service, clean fryers, basketball on the tv (if you're lucky), and root beer/grape soda (ugh. I'll call it 'pop' just this once time) in the cooler. It's perfect. The focus is not on kitsch, but on quality. The product is top-notch. Think, "big, juicy DEVEINED gulf shrimp, no grease, panko-esque batter, tangy dipping sauce, crispy fries, and, of course, grape soda." The guys here know how to fry some sea roaches. The consistency of the meat is everything you want from a fried shrimp: firm but not hard but, also, not squishy from being over-greased. These are just right. Each shrimp requires 3 or 4 bites to eat. These things are big! Perhaps BP has mutated these beasts past the point of recognition. I don't know for sure. All I know is that, FINALLY, I have found the home for my fried shrimp needs. And, fancy that: I didn't have to eat isht to enjoy it. What a concept.

Yelp
Time for an update. I've tried a few more delectable items on my last couple of visits. The shrimp and scallops are still top-notch, but my favorite item on the menu might be the fish chips. They're just pieces of breaded fish, but something intangible makes them irresistible. I have no idea whether the cocktail sauce is housemade or not, but I approve in any case. It is rewardingly acidic rather than sweet and tomatoey. They also have a nice selection of wraps and sandwiches featuring various preparations of seafood and chicken. My favorite is the cajun shrimp wrap with andouille sausage, grilled shrimp, and garlic sauce. The wraps are a satisfying meal in and of themselves, but it's tough to resist ordering at least one other item, whether that is seafood or one of the sides such as the solid fried mushrooms. Uncle Snappy's is definitely a splurgey meal, but lord, what a glorious splurge. The calamari uses a different batter than the rest of the seafood, and it's kind of floury and bland, so I probably won't order those again. No problem though, with so many other delicious choices.

Brian R.

Yelp
I'll have to say, this is the best shrimp I've had on the North Side. It might even be in the top ten in the city. The service was wonderful, they took my order, then money, then they gave me food. Although there are seats, and maybe a table or two, it feels like a great takeout place. They good on the fried stuff. The only short coming was the lack of seasoning in the breading. They hot sauce wasn't Louisiana Hot Sauce, which is another hit. It wasn't bad hot sauce, but not it wasn't Louisiana. They cocktail sauce is straight.
google avatar

Vanessa A.

Yelp
This was a disappointment. I really had high hopes but as others have said it's all very over fried and way too much breading. We had the shrimp and scallops, then on whim ordered the hush puppies. These came out of bag and were fried, they were OK what helped is that honey butter, that was delish! Just as any FYI, I ordered medium and hot sauces, tasted like a version of BBQ and hot was not hot. I can't speak to the other items but I would say check it out and see what you think.

Yelp
FOOD POISONING ALERT!! My fiancé, who honestly could eat a rock and not get sick, sat up all night with severe food poisoning after eating the fried scallops and chicken wrap. Avoid at all costs!

Yelp
I went here to get my Lent Friday fix of seafood. I was looking for a fairly inexpensive place to eat but had to taste good. This place definitely fit the bill! I ordered the meal. I got a fish filet sandwich, fries, coleslaw and a drink all for $7.50 after taxes. This was one of the better fish filets I've tasted. All the fixin's on the sandwich on a toasted kaiser bun. I'm picky with coleslaw and they had a great tasting, creamy coleslaw. YUM I was satisfied so much with my first visit that it'll keep me coming back for more! I'll have to try the shrimp the next time...especially since the place is named Snappy's shrimp house :) One thing to note, the seating area is VERY minimal so don't plan big groups to eat there.

Yelp
No. That's what I said when I bit into my catfish. It had way too much batter and didn't taste fresh at all. It also had the slimy black part on it that makes it taste too fishy. No. That's what I said when I bit into one of those enormous overly battered shrimp. I love jumbo shrimp but the batter was overwhelming. The fries were OK but needed salt. The hush puppies were good. I won't be back. Yelp let me down with this one. I grew up near the gulf so maybe my standards are too high?

Yelp
$8.75( before tax) for exactly 7 pieces of shrimp?! What part of the game is this? To be fair, the shrimp were not nasty, but they weren't flavorful..food must be flavorful without any sauces, sauce should enhance my food. They were completely tasteless.I could tell that they were a good quality product, the taste was just bland.I ordered hot sauce, but whatever I received tasted like enhanced ketchup...not like mild sauce, but some sort of hot ketchup that looked like bbq sauce. I also ordered the catfish strips. They were decent, but the portion was tiny.I included a picture of the size.My 1/2lb order had 4 catfish strips...could be the equivalent of 1 normal filet. I'm being very descriptive because For $15,I should not be left hungry. At Goose Island $15 will feed me at least 2 good meals...and I order the same thing....maybe this place measures their food differently, either way I won't be returning. The service was pretty fast so that's a plus.

Yelp
This place is absolutely terrible!!! My coworker and I went here for lunch and he ordered two pounds of fried shrimp. We were almost to our destination when my partner realized that these shrimp we were eating had been cooked once battered and fried in grease making them chewy and horrible to eat. I know times are difficult but how do you sell your customers twice cooked shrimp. This dude is bad for business and I will definitely reach out to the Better Business Bureau.

Yelp
I know it's not your fault, Snappy. I know. But I am still shaken from the tragic evening that included getting some of your fried treats. As I was leaving the restaurant this evening, my husband and I saw a dog playfully running away from it's owner... down Irving Park. We tried to help the guy catch it but... that poor dog didn't stand a chance and was run over. Many times. I cried. I got my Snappy's home and couldn't eat for a while (for obvious reasons). When my stomach finally outgrowled my residual smashed doggie horror (I had only had carrots all day... I'm only human), I sampled some of our goodies. We had shrimp, fish, chicken wings and mushrooms. Fish: pretty good. Breading could have been crispier Shrimp: better than the fish. Nice and crispy. Chicken wings: spicy and yum. Mushrooms: the WORST mushrooms I've ever had. Under fried, soggy... we each tried one bite then threw the bag in the garbage. Hot sauce: kinda yuck. It's rather like a spicy BBQ sauce. I know that no shrimp place will have hot sauce as good as Lawrence's... but just a LITTLE more effort would be appreciated. I am trying not to let the canine tragedy affect my review. Trying really hard. Honestly, I can't give a 4 star review because of those mushrooms. They were really that bad. I'll order again... sans mushrooms and with a bottle of Lawrence's sauce. Public service announcement: please people, for the love of God... keep your pets on a leash. Please. I am hugging my cats extra tight tonight.

Yelp
Just another shrimp house here in the city and nothing sets them apart from the others. They're more expensive than the others, and you seem to get they same amount of food as other shops. I like the location, as it is a skip from the brown line Irving Park stop. I also like that they do have some seats. Whereas in other shrimp houses in the city you have to order and eat in your car. As for the food, I got 2 pounds of shrimp. I know a lot of people say there's a lot of bread; however, I find when I eat mine while still hot it doesn't seem like a lot. Now, if I wait for them to cool, that's when the breading seems to be thicker, and I find myself pulling it off. While I liked my order, there is no incentive for me to go here unless I'm in the neighborhood. Everything is about $2.50 higher than at other places. The taste is no different from Lawrence's, the shrimp house, or Goose Island. So will I wouldn't mind paying the price I am not getting anything for it. Except being closer to a doctor telling me I can never eat fried foods again. Try if you're in the area and want seafood. Nothing special to go out of the way for.
