Snoozles Hostel is really well located (although admittedly the coach driver and I had missed it twice). It is a short walk to the centre and it is literally right next to the bus station. And... because of its location it is much quieter and not a lot of noise from the street. Upon arrival, it actually looked like the budget hotels that I have stayed in rather than the hostels I have stayed in. The staff were really friendly, willing to help, had suggestions for the students, etc. The manager had a quick talk with the group about the policies of the hostel, i.e. bringing alcohol in.
The rooms are very nice, all en-suite. However, some of our students complained about the beds not being a bit short as some of the students' legs were hanging off of the beds. The students also mentioned the same issues with the bathrooms as everyone else here has mentioned. I ended up in a double room on the third floor and it was very nice, not at all what I was expecting. The bed was a bit firm, but the duvet and pillows were very comfortable. The bed squeaked a lot when I would roll over, but overall, good.
There was a balcony area with double doors that opened onto it. The view was nice and it was nice to get some fresh air in the room... especially after taking a shower and the steam filling up the room. The free wifi in the rooms was nice... well it only worked for a little bit before the whole system just shut down and the staff didn't really know how to fix it. Breakfast was nothing special, but there was toast, juice, coffee, milk, and cereals available and the staff were good about filling things up before the containers were empty.
The lounge area is nice with a few computers, a toilet, a billiard table, books, and a t.v. The only thing that I found to be a problem was on the second day that we were there, I went to my room and waved the card in front of the door and it wouldn't open, yet it worked to let me in the door downstairs. So I went down to the lobby to let the staff member know. He came up and tried the card again and it still would not open, but now it sounded like it was working, but the door just wouldn't open. He wasn't sure on how to fix it, so instead I just went out hoping to stop in before dinner to drop off some things and then go out again.
When I got back, the card still didn't work so the staff member had to let me in, although he had quite a bit of trouble trying to use a device to unlock the door. He had told me that I was just going to have to have someone let me in every time I need to get into the room. Of course that put a bit of a damper on my night because the last thing I want to do is be escorted to my room every time I need in and I'm sure the staff have better things to do. They are a fairly new hostel, so I am hoping that the problems with the locks and the internet they were having is just because they are still getting used to the system.
Overall, I would recommend it to my students and anyone on a budget looking for a nice place to stay.
