First off, I wanted to write two separate reviews, but yelp would not let that happen in the same night, so I am combining.
the hotel version of this review is ONE STAR
please also read my review of my pub experience which is FOUR STARS.
Up for a quick last minute ski weekend with a friend looking for basic accommodations. We found it in the Snow Shoe Lodge. Check in is at the bar of the pub on the first floor. This is not the first time i have encountered this in this part of VT. Given a key to a room, we headed up the outside stairwell to an inside hallway to our room. Dirty sink, clean toilet ( but decrepit seat) clean shower. An assortment of towels in assorted colors that looked like thrift shop discards. The two old uncomfortable beds with skuzzy looking spreads, had what appeared to be clean sheets. The tv was a 17" tube model, with a decent assortment of direct TV. the heat worked fine and as it was of the electric variety it was nice quiet. Buyer beware, the band went on at 9:30 and it was loud in our room. Exhausted from a day of skiing, I didn't care.................OH, last thing: my bed had a mirror on the ceiling!!!!!!!!!!!!!! fun.
Now my standards are not high and we were paying very little for this room, however I don't think I could stomach another night.
remember, read the pub review.
THE PUB REVIEW
*****FOUR STARS*****
After a great day of skiing and the requisite beer at the mountain, two of us headed into the Snow Shoe Pub for some apres ski. this place is authentic. Sat at the bar for a couple of beers and buffalo wings. The beer was cold and served in clean glasses, from what tasted like clean keg taps. Yay! the wings were fine. Better than most! After checking in while enjoying some conversation with the other people in the bar, we went upstairs to our room, to relax a bit before dinner (see above.) Back later for dinner (again sitting at the bar) The menu looked good for a pub. Burgers were the call and they did not disappoint. Med-rare was served med-rare. The fries were crinkle sliced potato circles and cooked well. The band was setting up and a decent crowd showed up to watch, but this ski bum was beat and headed up to sleep. I would be back for the pub in a moments notice! (on a side note: I don't really want to see what was going on in the kitchen, based on the hotel rooms above.)
