The 13 Best Hostels in Europe (Updated 2025)

"Close to Bruges city center, this hostel sits in a very old building so rooms are small and showers can be inconvenient (you have to go downstairs into the back courtyard), but it has a social backyard courtyard, free Wi‑Fi, bikes, an on-site bar, and an amazing selection of Belgian beers (watch out for the 13% ones!)." - Matthew Kepnes

For a pretty inexpensive hostel, this one was absolutely fantastic and one of the best (if not the best) I've stayed at. I felt entirely safe and taken care of. I stayed in a 6-bed female dorm, and the room was clean and well-laid out. The lockers are HUGE, which was a plus as someone who overpacks. I could have easily fit a large checked bag, a backpack, and souvenir bags in that locker. It also comes with it's own lock, so you don't have to rent one. When I asked, I also got a towel free of charge, and they have a locker storage room for pre and post checkout that is also entirely free. The bathroom was not attached to the all female dorm, and this hostel only has mixed gendered bathrooms which is not normally my preference, however there were separate areas for female showers and toilets and male showers and toilets. Each area had it's own door, so it still felt remarkably safe and private. The bathrooms were spotless, with multiple stalls and sinks. The showers are quite large for a hostel with a changing area outside of them, and the water pressure was adjustable as was the temperature. The location was PERFECT. This hostel is located on a quiet street in between a bus stop and the city center. It's only a ten minute walk to the city center, and it was super easy to go back and forth. I highly recommend this hostel, and will be staying again should I ever find myself in Bruges!

I stayed in a room with 4 beds and i really enjoyed it. The lockers are huge, the rooms are big and clean and the location of the hostel is really good there is a bus stop 5 min from the hostel. The bar is full at night and has a cool, dark atmosphere. The only thing i didnt really like was the bathroom. For the amount of people using them, they should be cleaned more frequently than just 1 time per day. I also added a pic of the menu from the bar in case anyone needs it. Would totally recommend staying here bc bruges has quite expensive accommodations but this one is cheap and nice

Very good, clean. Stayed in 4b room with shared toilet & shower. All was very good. Needs some shelved e.g. some kallax for each bed for putting daily stuff (non valuables) on. Breakfast at 4.50€ was v. mgood value, ‘buffet’ inc. 2 basic cerials, breads, condiment’s, oj, filter coffee, milk, boiled eggs. Nice bar for a drink or 2. Bike rack in inner courtyard locked at night and undercover.

AVOID!! The worst hostel I ever seen. The reception is cold try to finish talking with you as soon as possible. And after walking the whole day carrying a 10 kg backpack exhausted, the first thing you are asked to do is make your own bed. No blanket on the bed only a pillow. You have to carry the bedsheet, pillow cover, blanket cover yourself. And this is not the worst, the whole room is full of bad smell, which is because they want to save cost and not install the circulation system. It is impossible to open the window because outside is almost 0 degree C. Every time your roommate makes a turn in bed, you will shake with the bed strongly! I think its bed quality is very bad. The shower room is only three for shared with 20*6 people 😇👀 When check in, I observe there is another girl check out in advance to avoid this hostel. When check out, you will be asked to remove the bedsheet, pillow cover, blanket cover yourself and bring to counter. Otherwise I saw the reception girl is questioning another couple not let them check out just because they didn’t bring back in the beginning. Honestly I don’t think it is guest’s responsibility to do all of these work and pay for the hostel. And the checkout time is 10 am, it leaves you not enough time collect backpacks, eat breakfast, gather the bedsheets etc. They charge you almost 28 euros or more. 😅It’s not worth it at all. And for the breakfast, there is not meat, not even a ham or chicken slices, which in other Belgium hostel you can simply find a breakfast at same price with meat, etc. I would rather spend a bit more money to avoid this one. Don’t be fooled, in my opinion it is the worst hostel I eve seen in my life.

Nice hostel in a great location with clean rooms and private bathroom facilities. I booked a women-only dorm but was placed in a mixed dorm and told it was an upgrade. (It had a shower and bathroom) If booking through Hostelworld, it’s worth confirming your room type at check-in. The two guys I shared the room with were friendly.

I highly recommend this hostel as it is super friendly for young people—nice court to socialize with strangers. The staff is super friendly and kind. (Extra points for free lockers to use even while checked out).

The one thing that impressed me the most about Snuffel Hostel was the wheel accessibility aspect. There are elevators in the building. The hallways and dorms have extra allowances for a wheelchair to move around. There are accessible bathrooms and showers. It is quite apparent that the building was designed for the purpose of a highly accessible hostel. Supermarket and bus stops are within walking distance. The old city centre is not too far away either. However, the train station is a bit far away. I had two restful nights. Thank you.

Google
The rooms are large and the communal space is great and welcoming. Pros: Best luggage service ever: plenty of room during your stay and a free locker service after checkout Light and socket near the bunks Table and chairs in the 4 bed dormitory showers and toilets are laid out more like individual bathrooms than the usual school gym showers you get in many hostels. and they have a hairdryer in each room. Perfectly walkable from station and into the main sites Cons: It isn't their fault but all Brugge is cobbled so the 7 minutes to public transport is a nightmare for wheely cases

Yelp
Only stayed here one night, but it was adequate. The private rooms are basic, but huge and clean. The receptionist was very kind and friendly even though we checked in late at midnight. The bathrooms were nice and clean as well.

Yelp
This is an excellent choice for a stop over. The rooms are super basic but perfect for the traveler. The amenities offered at the hostel are plentiful. The breakfast isn't overwhelming but it's perfect to get you started and on your way. The bar can be a little noisy on the weekends, try to book a room away from the courtyard

Yelp
Excellent hostel. So much cleaner than other ones we saw during our journey and very updated. Rates were very reasonable, and when we went during the week, the other spots in our room were left unfilled, so we got a large 6-bed room to ourselves! (Although this prob doesn't happen much during the popular season) Short (15 min) walk to main town and shopping. The bathrooms were clean and convenient. Plus the bar downstairs has some great deals (5 beers for 11 euros!). There is a liquor store and couple restaurants across the street. The only hiccup we had, that didn't end up being a big deal was that you have to check out after 8am and if you're planning on leaving before then, you are supposed to check out the night before. We had planned on leaving after 8am however due to our jetlag, we woke up at 6am and were unable to go back to sleep. We had to knock and wait for a little while for their worker in the back to open up and take our key/sheets from us. Since they do appear to have someone working at that time, they should just train him on check out procedures!
