I am rather new to fly fishing and have taken a couple of guided trips on other rivers. I can truley say that my time at Soaring Eagle was one of the jbest experiences of my life. The owner and staff were all so friendly and helpful. The day I got there I wfished right ouside my czbin and landed a nice Bow, thanks to Bill in the fly shop goving me tips on the flies to tie and location to try. The meals were excellent and good portions. My three days on the river with guide Pat were fantastic. He put me on the fish every day and was a great guy. I have never really caught alot of fish, but this trip was different. Pat constantly made sure the tackle was right and that I was taking advantage of every strike. He educated me on ways to cast and set a hook. He worked his butt off for me.. I feel as if I have made a new friend.. Kudos to Jeff and staff. I already made reservations for next year. Cheers, Mark P.

I've been to Soaring Eagle many times thru the years and it just keeps getting better. Jeff knows how to take care of his guests. The cabins are great and the views of the San Juan are from a post card. The guides are professional and put you on fish. Can't say enough about the great food and the staff: both excellent. It's a great place to take your spouse and kids. I fish a lot of different lodges and Soarig Eagle is high on my list!

I think I will just talk to the owner about what happened I'm not going to mention it on Google. It's a wonderful place for fishing, great views, just had a little issue with the breakfast.

This lodge is the perfect spot for any fly-fisherman. The rooms are spacious and include a kitchenette and living space with two recliners. Bathrooms could stand to be remodeled, but are certainly adequate for the purpose. Located right on the beautiful river, the views are spectacular. The stay includes both breakfast and dinner. You will not be disappointed. They even allow for some variation if you require a meal that does not include beef. Our fishing guide, Rusty, was fantastic. We stayed for 4 nights and had a great experience. We will return!

I have been here many times over the years and can honestly say this is on of my favorite lodges in the USA. From the moment you arrive the staff is friendly, engaging and helpful. Want to step out your front door and land a couple of trout? No problem, and the staff staff is happy to help get your rod rigged properly and eager to help with fly selection. The meals are consistently delicious and lunch on the river never disappoints. I’ve taken a group of 20 plus people and never had a bad guiding experience, not to mention, it’s one of the best fisheries in the Southwest. Overall Jeff and his team are fantastic and I will go back again and again.

This is THE best fishing experience I've had in recent years. Everything about the lodge is fisherman friendly. Jeff - the owner - is as personable as he is knowledgeable, and his staff takes its lead from him. Our guide Nathaniel was excellent and enjoyable to be on the river with. The food was top notch, prepared and presented in a way that rivals the best restaurants anywhere. It was obvious from the first minutes at the lodge that Jeff and everyone there was committed to making our trip a memorable one. We enjoyed the other guests as well. All the guests shared in the fly fisher brotherhood that brought us all there in the first place. The fishing was excellent. With Nate as our mentor, it is safe to say that we experienced no fewer than 10 strikes an hour. Far from an expert, I was able to land my fair share throughout the day, most in the 18 to 24-inch range. I STRONGLY recommend a trip to the Soaring Eagle Lodge. You'll be charmed by the staff and the guests, pampered by the food and accommodations, and thrilled at the quality of fly fishing.

I stayed at Soaring Eagle on a family fishing trip. The rooms at the lodge were quite clean, with far more amenities than I expected at fishing lodge. The shop on the premises carries just about anything you could possibly need, including warm clothing, flies, accessories, etc. Our guides were phenomenal!!!!! My parents had Jeremiah Spradling and I had Cooper O'Connor. Both were super knowledgeable about fishing that stretch of the San Juan and fly fishing too. I had a friend with me who had never been fly fishing and Cooper was a very patient and thorough instructor. By the second day, almost every cast brought in a fish! The guides knew exactly what flies they were biting on. We had a lovely picnic lunch each day. Both Jeremiah and Cooper are consummate professionals with a great sense of humor and attentive to the environment, with a leave no trace attitude. I can recommend Soaring Eagle Lodge, their accommodations, their guides, their gear and their management without hesitation! I'll be back for sure!

Yelp
I have never had a group of people come out and yell from the shore that they own the river. More specific they stated they own the river bottom so we aren't allowed to stop our boat in their section of the river. I check with the NM Game and fish and they stated you are not allowed to get out of the river onto private property but no one lays claim to the river bottom. Seems like a crazy way to spend your day waiting for a random boat to come by so you can berate them from the shore. Be nicer humans.

Yelp
What an amazing experience!!!! I highly recommend. I had only fly fished one time before this trip and for many on our group (corporate) trip, this was their first fishing experience. All experience levels will enjoy themselves if they book a fishing guide through this lodge. I will talk about the fishing experience but first I will talk about the lodge. We stayed 3 nights... a Thursday, Friday and Saturday in mid September. The weather was absolutely beautiful. The entire lodge was booked for our group. Breakfast and dinner were provided each night and the food was really good. They were able to accommodate dietary restrictions and preferences. The rooms are very simple but they have everything you need. The beds are very firm. I found my bed to be very comfortable. There is a decent sized kitchen including a large fridge and microwave and coffee maker. Coffee was included. The bathroom had basic shower toiletries. There were a lot of towels. Each room had a tv and two recliners. Very nice for relaxing. There is a rec room with a lot of games and big tv. FISHING: OMG! What a beautiful and tranquil experience. The guides are all very experienced. All of the guides in our group provided us with a nice lunch. I would ask about that if you book. I didn't do any of the booking on this trip but I understand that all of the guides were booked through the lodge. Our guide was Brad. He was very helpful when it came to teaching us how to cast and mend our lines, etc. We learned that the minimum appropriate tip is $50 per person so don't forget to tip :-)

Yelp
Just spent two nights at Soaring Eagle Lodge. The positive reviews are completely accurate. Not sure where things went of the rails with the one star review but based on my experience, the only type of service offered at Soaring Eagle Lodge is EXCELLENT SERVICE AND GREAT VALUE! The room was very cozy...much better than anticipated. The bathroom is spacious with lots of towels and an abundance of hot water, which is important to me as my recent Marriott hotel stays have resulted in like warm showers. Full size refrigerator. Microwave. Sink. Cups. Plates. Dishes. Utensils. Paper towels. Dish cloths. Ground coffee. Coffee pot. Ice in ice maker. Sugar, etc. Large TV. Two great old style recliners. Ceiling fan. View of the river. Food was very good. Staff could not have been nicer, more attentive, or more professional. It was a pleasure talking with the various staff members as well as Jeff, the Owner. Our guide, Jeremiah, was in step with the staff at the lodge, offering unparalleled service. He, as did all of the folks at the lodge, "knocked it out of the park". I have little to no experience fly fishing, and Jeremiah could not have been more attentive, patient, helpful, and fun. Truly, he's a fantastic guide offering an incredibly Hugh level of service. I'm ready to go back! And...GEAR. If you think you might need some gear and want to get it before you arrive at the Lodge, call and see if they have what you need. You can buy it from the Lodge at a good price and can get quality gear. They have an incredibly well stocked shop including clothing, jackets, glasses, gloves, waders, etc.

Yelp
I met my dear friend who is 81 years young to stay two nights and have a guided float trip on the San Juan. We stayed in cabin #8 on the river. The food was very good and the service and friendly nature perfect. Jeff and Alicia have a great operation. Clean and efficient. Awesome location. A little tough to find. Rob was our guide and he was AWESOME!!! I cannot believe I have never been here.... it will be a bi annual excursion... BRAVO SOARING EAGLE LODGE.

Yelp
I just got back from a week at Soaring Eagle Lodge. This is the 13th year that I have met college friends there for the great hospitality and great fishing we experience every year. The guide staff is outstanding and I wouldn't be half the fisherman without all the tips they have given me. The new owner is a long time guide who has brought a fresh approach to the lodge and it is greatly appreciated. The food is excellent and there's plenty of it. I've fished a lot of rivers across the western US and the setting right on the river overlooking the Crow's Foot Hole is outstanding. Looking forward to many more annual trips to Soaring Eagle with my friends. We've already scheduled our week for next year!

Yelp
This place is in the desert, where the mountains meet the desert if you want to be more specific. They do have maybe 3 acres of green grass etc the rest of the place looks 100% non appealing. The river isn't that majestic at all. The lake up the road IS but this river, its 3 hours in each direction from any decent sized town. This guy seriously straight faced told us $200 per night for Adult and $75 per kid... for a tiny cabin by a small river good 25 mins from the lake and where the boat is at. After calling and being told $215 per night that quickly changed when we got there, not sure if he thought he could price gouge us because since we had our own boat and everything to fish etc he just didn't want to rent to us cause we were not going to be paying for his fishing, food, etc. which is fine but should of said that upfront over the phone and we wouldn't of wasted the drive there. On the website clearly says $195 per night per person for bed n breakfast. We come to Navajo to boat, fish, etc on the lake not the river. Just a pretty horrible way to do business if you ask me, especially for a place in the middle of nowhere New Mexico and try to price gouge the hell out of a family. I would also think twice about some of the reviews posted on google which are 5 star, some things are too good to be true. Been to cabins all over the western and southern US and never had anyone try to charge us $890 for ONE NiGHT for small cabin!! Ridiculous.

Yelp
One of the best fly fishing trips we have been on. Jeff the owner and Brad our guide were amazing. The cabins were really nice and the meals were even better. My wife and I will definitely be making this a yearly trip!

Yelp
Four of us fished here for three days recently and had a wonderful time. The positive reviews listed here are extremely accurate! The lodge is very well run and I could not give a single negative comment! I don't know what the 1-star rating had expected, but somewhere he went completely off base. Our guides, Brad and Chris were as good as we have experienced anywhere! When I have a problem with something, I express it in Yelp, but not at Soaring Eagle Lodge!

Yelp
Just spent five days at this wonderful lodge. Everything was great. The people were incredibly nice. The cabin was clean and stocked. It is all about fly fishing and the lodge goes out of their way to make both men and women feel comfortable. They had big towels, soft linens and there was even a black makeup towel. The food was expertly prepared by Chef Michael and you never left the restaurant hungry. The rest of our time was spent with a fantastic guide named Jeremiah. I would highly recommend this lodge.

Yelp
Wonderful lodge right on the river. Cabins are comfortable. Friendly owner and staff are happy to satisfy all of your needs. All meals are prepared by the onsite chef. They serve you more great food than you could ever hope to consume. Prime rib night was a special treat. Perfect for the most experienced fly fisherman or the novice. Kids are welcome. My 12 year old son had a phenomenal time! All of the guides are patient and knowledgeable. Most importantly, we caught a lot of rainbow and brown trout up to 20+ inches in length! Great fishing trip!

Yelp
Had a really great stay at Soaring Eagle. This is a fishing lodge and that is why you would come here, but a really well run one with good food and access to the river.

Yelp
best lodge Ive been to by far, beautiful cabins that are literally right on the river, you can almost roll cast a seam from you doorway, the lodge sits on one of the most beautiful stretches of river anywhere, a big meandering side channel flows along the driveway that slides down a large shelf to an awesome hole. the staff is great, to them its not just a job, its a passion. very helpful and knowledgeable. the food is incredible, im used to eating hotdogs on fishing trips and i ate like a king at soaring eagle. Larry Johnson the owner has fished for more species in more countries than anyone i know and chooses the san juan to call his home which says alot for the river, the first day i fished it took me a while to get dialed in but with larrys advice i was catching fish in no time, pick your poison you can catch fish stripping streamers, high sticking nymphs, or skating dry flies almost all times of the day. phenomenal winter baetis hatches that last for hours, cloudy days toss streamers and nymphs anytime. big fish, tiny flies light tippets. the third day fishing the river they had just opened the new braided section of texas hole and i was one of the first guys in there, by 3 i had lost count with over 50 fish in the net, with a dozen over 20 and one bruiser 26 inch rainbow. when i got back to the lodge the food was ready and i spent hours talking to Larry and his wife Leslie. great people, great fishing, great trip. they have an awesome little shop, if they dont have it you dont need it, Andy was in the store and gave me some of his secret weapons he tied then showed me how to tie them myself, you dont get that many places. the food and hospitality was worth the trip alone and the fishing was a bonus. thank you Leslie Larry and staff of Soaring Eagle Lodge for a trip i will never forget
