Sociable Folk somehow manage to combine the holy trinity that all cafes seek but so few attain: customer service, food and coffee. Most places only ever get two, but Sociable Folk manages to hit three out of three the three times I've been there.
First, customer service: Maybe it's my London ways, maybe it's just Leeds, but the people in here are generally friendly.
Second, food: I had a really nice sandwich here when I popped in for lunch. I was quite frankly astounded by the fact that the food was that nice and the portions were significant given the prices. Yes, I live in London and perhaps my standard price points are higher than others, so that's why I'm putting this disclaimer in. I did genuinely think the prices were really affordable here, and would contemplate eating lunch here weekly, if I lived in Leeds.
Last, but not least, coffee: Sociable Folk use North Star, a micro-roaster based in Leeds. The flat white I had was phenomenal, with intense notes of berries, the kind of taste you only ever really get with a natural coffee. It was incredible, and will rank as one of the best coffees I have had this year (which is why I'm writing this review in December).
I have not been up to Leeds since the first quarter of this year, and, to be perfectly honest, I miss Sociable Folk. It is a nice cosy place, the kind of cafe I'd love to have as my local so that I can chill out there with friends or just get a break from work.
