This place tried to charge me over 20 times the original cost of my stay just one day before arrival—with no explanation. In person, they dodged responsibility and blamed a previous management company, but still refused a refund. I had to dispute the charge through my bank to get my money back. The vibe is completely gone—no events, poor maintenance, and dirty rooms. If you’re booking for the Selina experience, don’t be fooled. It’s not what it used to be.

The hotel left the best impressions. The staff is responsive, cleanliness and order in the hotel are maintained at the proper level, and fresh products are always served for breakfast. However, the area in which it is located may cause very ambiguous emotions.

Very good environment, excellent breakfast. Close to the main points in city center. Sta Teresa Hills, Lapa, Selaron Steps. Staff team are very friendly. Especial thanks to the receptionist Tainá who is super attentious and kind. I'd definitely recommend this place.

Had a decent stay at Selina Lapa Rio de Janeiro & Coworking! The hostel has a cool vibe with nice communal spaces, and the coworking area is a great bonus. Lapa itself is a lively neighborhood with plenty of nightlife and cultural spots, and the hostel is just a short walk from the famous Escadaria Selarón. While it's a bit far from the beaches, you can easily get there by train. Definitely a solid choice if you want to experience the energy of Rio beyond just the coastline!

For anyone coming here - this is NO LONGER coworking friendly!! We were only able to find this out after we booked and paid. The website and Google both still mentioned an open cowork space. Since the rebrand from Selina, the coworking space has been removed and turned in to office space for the staff. The WiFi is poor and inconsistent, there are no events for the people staying there, and the ‘traveler vibes’ are missing. It’s more of a hotel at this point with hostel type rooms. The AC and food are decent.

Stayed in a private room. Checked in but the sheets were dirty and there was hair in the bathroom sink. The front desk staff spoke english which was very helpful. Breakfast was good. Rooftop was nice. There was a lot of street noise from the hotel room but its near a lot of major sites

So I checked in and a cockroach crawled up my leg on the bed. I hunted it without success and was sweating so much because the AC didn’t work. They changed me to a better room but when I closed the door the doorframe fell on me. I expect some sort of answer or gesture for this. They didn’t even give me late checkout. Sociatel needs to respond to this to fix it

BE VERY CAREFUL! We went to the bar for a pub crawl and one of the waiters tried to take my partner's card. He denied having it until the guide from the tour talked to him in Portuguese. We were very lucky that we noticed immediately before they could clone it.
