9 Incredible Castle Hotels Around the World

"Featuring Sweden's first outdoor Olympic-size swimming pool, a bowling alley from the 1930s, and sweeping river views, the Häringe Castle is an imposing presence in Södermanland, Sweden. One of the standout experiences available at the 17th century property is the “castle murder" package, where you get to attempt to solve a crime during a dinner experience. Guests can also take part in cooking classes with the castle chef, horseback riding excursions, tennis, and relax in the property sauna. When time to rest, you can reach your rooms through underground tunnels that connect with the main building. Book now with Expedia" - Adrienne Jordan

Converted from a former manor/castle and on the shores of a lovely lake. Very comfortable rooms, excellent food, fantastic service. Charming atmosphere all through it.

It's a unique castle with ancient and interesting history situated on a small island just outside Gnesta. You find a spa with poolbar, a very nice library where you can enjoy a drink and many different types of diningrooms. Service and food is excellent.

What a place!!! I can’t believe I never knew about Södertuna Castle before! Recently, I had the chance to visit for work, spent the entire day here, and it was incredible. Had lunch, Fika, and enjoyed exploring the grounds. The views are amazing, and the premises truly take you back to the Downton Abbey era. The reading room, lavish seating, and the whole 1800s theme make it feel like you’ve stepped into another time. Highly recommend both for work events and a day out!

Nice rooms, average food, worst restaurant service ever experienced...||Unfortunately, this visit was way below expectations, I truly have never ever had a service of such a terribly bad quality. For the prices at this restaurant I was honestly shocked what an insanely bad service this was. ||Highly unqualified and impolite personnel, nobody knows what to do and how to do it. Bottle of white wine comes without a cooler, desert is served while all plates from main course are still on the table, staff wanted to charge us twice cause nobody feels responsible for checking anything, + many many many more examples. ||The day of the visit I asked for the current menu and food options of the day before we arrived. They kindly sent me the current options (3 choices for each course). After we arrived at the restaurant, they told that for today they have a pre-set menu with zero choice. Food was okay but not more than average. For the prices charged, one would expect way higher quality. While the small starter was delicious, the meat of the main course was overcooked, and the desert was a joke and clearly prepared well in advance.||The castle is beautiful and has nice rooms, the restaurant however is not recommendable at all.

Södertuna castle is situated in the picturesque town of Gnesta with breathtaking water views – a photographer’s dream, no matter the season. The happy, hard-working and dedicated staff, love their job and its shows through their 5-star professional service. The chefs prepare incredible food and presented in a most professional way. Do not miss this place. Highly recommended.

I visited for a wedding, which they seemed to cater to really well. Staff were quite excellent and lovely. The bar service was limited during the party, though. The food at dinner was good but not as great as expected at Kulturpärlor estates. Location is beautiful but there's some serious lack of maintenance on the grounds, with overgrown paths and stone steps falling apart. Rooms in the (relatively recently built) wings are fine, though it's strange that they charge per person rather than per room (at least they did for wedding guests, maybe it's different for normal weekend visitors) and at that rate I would think it was overpriced. The breakfast in the morning was pretty good, though slim pickings for vegetarians/vegans.

Stayed here for three nights while on business. The hotel is in a lovely location on the edge of a lake, surrounded by a large park and woodlands which you can walk through. The main house and grounds are well maintained and all togeter a very nice place to stay.||Accomodation was in a block at the rear of the hotel. The room though not large was fine, clean, with a comfortable bed but only had a shower rather than a bath. The corridors were looking a bit tired, with worn paint and some stains on the carpets.||The breakfasts & dinners are served in the principle rooms of the main house which are very impressive. Light, airy and full of character. The staff were all friendly and polite too. I ate one night at the hotel and the food was good.||The down side of the hotel was that on 2 of the 3 nights I was staying there the main house was closed, so no meals and no bar. I presume this was because there were so few guests staying but no one mentioned to me at breakfast that the hotel would be shut. If you wanted a meal you could drive 30 minutes each way to the Gripsholm, the sister hotel in Mariefred. There were no obvious local resteraunts in Gnesta the small town near the hotel, but even if there had been it was still a drive. ||So if you want to stay in a beautiful location then fantastic, but if you want hotel basics like food and drink then not a good choice.||
