Sofia Balkan Palace is very well located in the heart of the city. From the hotel you can walk to many of Sofia’s main sights, restaurants and cafés. The building itself is impressive, as it adjoins the Presidential Palace and includes high-end boutiques on the lower floors. The rooms are spacious and modern, which initially creates a positive impression.||However, several aspects of my stay were disappointing.||The layout of the bathroom is not ideal. The toilet is separated, but the shower and sink area have no external door. This means you need to be comfortable with the person you are sharing the room with, as privacy is limited when showering.||Upon check-in, multiple things in the room were not functioning. The electrical outlets, the TV, and the lights in the bathroom area were all out of order. The phone in the room also did not work, which meant I had to return to the reception desk in person. A technician came and managed to fix the lighting and outlets after about thirty minutes of work in the electrical panel, but the TV and phone never ended up working despite follow-ups.||Another detail that stood out was the door staff. At a hotel of this category, you expect some level of acknowledgement or greeting when making eye contact or passing through the entrance. This was consistently absent.||The breakfast was acceptable, but the selection was limited. Considering the price, it may be more worthwhile to visit one of the many charming cafés nearby, where the quality and atmosphere are often better at a lower cost.||Overall, my stay was disappointing. Given the number of issues, I expected the hotel to follow up or offer some form of goodwill gesture, but there was no such initiative. For the price and the hotel’s advertised standard, the service and attention to detail did not meet expectations.
