Sofitel Lyon Bellecour (Lyon, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes) 5 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"For all its MICHELIN-starred restaurants, its twisting Roman passageways and cobblestone streets, its famous and lovely river bisecting the city, its own spindly metal tower from the late nineteenth century, its art and its film and not least its 2,000-year-old theater scene — for all that, alas, Lyon will never quite elbow Paris out of the limelight. But France’s second city is no second fiddle; if the Sofitel in the city center tells us anything, it tells us that Lyon has no trouble pulling off a gleaming glass cube of a modern design hotel — glowing green check-in desk, asymmetrical furniture, wall-mounted metallic sunbursts and all." - Tablet Hotels

I had a wonderful stay at Sofitel Lyon Bellecour. The location is perfect—right by the Rhône and just a short walk from the old town, shops, and restaurants. The views from the upper floors are stunning, especially from the rooftop restaurant, which offers refined cuisine and a beautiful panoramic setting. Dining there was one of the highlights of my stay. The room was elegant and comfortable, with a great bed and high-quality amenities. Everything was clean and well-maintained, and I appreciated the quiet atmosphere despite being in the city center. Service was excellent throughout. The staff were warm, professional, and always ready to help. From check-in to check-out, everything ran smoothly. The breakfast buffet was generous and fresh, and the view made it even more enjoyable. The hotel offers valet parking and a secure garage, which made things very convenient. It’s a real plus in a city like Lyon. This was not my first time staying here, and it won’t be the last. It’s a reliable, high-standard hotel that makes visiting Lyon feel special every time.

DO NOT RECOMMEND! I'm shocked that this hotel has 5 stars. It should be more like a 2 star hotel. Even our Uber driver from the airport recommended the Marriott over this hotel an we should have taken his advice! The rooms are in a desperate need of renovation and the service is the worst I have every experienced. We paid for a suite and were given a room with old carpet and stains on the carpet and furniture. On top of all of this, there was a leak in the the bathroom and my friend slipped and fell resulting in a huge bruise on her leg! We notified the hotel immediately and they wouldn't send anyone to address the problem until the next day. They were unable to fix the leak and eventually had to move us to another room. There was no apology and all they offered us was drinks at their bar for all the inconvenience. We don't even drink! Suffice to say, if you are planning a trip to Lyon, stay far away from this hotel. Stay at the InterContinental just down the street and at a better price!

This being an Accor property in the heart of Lyon I expected the room to be much better. I don’t want to post the pictures here but the bathroom was awful. Skidmarks on toilet, broken tissue dispenser, the housekeeping staff knowingly or unknowingly took out edible cookies that we just bought a day earlier. Housekeeping staff literally just make the bed over here and nothing more. No cleaning of the bathrooms. The bathrooms cleanliness was awful with hair lying around, mirrors were abysmal not cleaned at all. I’m not sure how this property achieves a 5 star status. We were in room 529 and wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a 5 star stay. At most I would say this hotel is a 3 star facility. Couldn’t even provide a basic thing such as a lint roller. Avoid at all costs! They need to learn what a real 5 star facility operates and looks like.

Stayed at the Sofitel Lyon Bellecour and really enjoyed it. The room was comfortable, well-finished, and had a great view over the river – one of those views you don’t get tired of. The hotel has that polished, understated feel you expect from Sofitel, and the team were friendly and professional throughout. Perfect location for exploring Lyon, and everything about the stay just felt easy and well put together. Would happily stay again.

Google
This hotel delivers a five star experience from check in to departure. The staff are fabulously helpful - especially as my French is non-existent. Room was super comfortable with a much appreciated black out screen, Location was steps away from countless restaurants, shops and interesting site. Bravo team - best hotel award for our Europe 25 trip, 🏆

We love Sofitels and stay in them regularly, all over Europe, but the Lyon Sofitel is urgently in need of total refurbishment. The state of the bedrooms is disgraceful - heavily scuffed, dirty and stained wallpaper, scuffed elderly furniture and multiple maintenance issues. The rooms look as if they haven’t been redecorated for at least 30 years - there are also insufficient plugs for charging electronic items. Such a shame as the staff are lovely and very professional, the location is perfect, breakfast delicious and there is a very nice bar on the top floor with stunning views. Hence the 3 star review as all these other things are 5 star, but the bedroom was very much a one star experience.

From the moment we arrived, we felt at home. The bellboy immediately unloaded our car with a friendly chat, allowing us as a family to fully focus on checking in. Afterwards, a very kind lady welcomed us and personally guided us to the elevator. The hotel’s interior may be a bit dated, but everything is well-kept and spotless. Breakfast was good for this class; the coffee wasn’t really to my taste, but that’s a personal matter. What truly stood out was the stunning view from the breakfast room at the top – absolutely amazing and will be back.

I grew up in Lyon and know this hotel since my childhood. It is a town’s landmark and iconic place, the only luxury hotel for years in Lyon and probably one of the first Sofitel ever built. The location (super central) and the service (super kind) were exceptional. However, there are some areas were this “old lady” needs some improvements to face growing competition in the area : The rooms and hotel exteriors (facade) needs a serious refresher and the hotel needs to build a pool (indoor or outdoor) to offer the full Sofitel experience.

Yelp
Although it's a comfortable, clean, attractive, and conveniently located hotel, utilized by biz folks and vacationers alike, it is showing its age. For one thing, there's a real paucity of outlets and no USB plugs at all. Rooms really need to be updated for today's connected devices and recharging needs. We also noticed some small trim issues in the room like uneven seam binders between room and hallway, bedroom and bathroom; leaky shower door, tight legroom between commode and bathtub, a glitchy TV, and an HVAC that was anemic. However, on the plus side, the complimentary in-room snacks and soft drinks are truly appreciated and a very nice touch; and truly solid window insulation that kept the noise out. The staff is also very good and considerate.

Yelp
We had the most beautiful rooms, with river view. The check in desk assistant named Lurah was very helpful and professional. Pippin was also very helpful with restaurant suggestions and information. Everyone at the hotel was exceptional and we would love to come back in the future. Thanks to our amazing travel agent Maral T. Nazarian with TravelStore in Pasadena, CA USA did everything for us and booked this beautiful hotel.

Yelp
The room decor was definitely from the 1980's. Complete with old, worn furniture and questionable red carpeting. The bed was comfortable and the restaurant was just fine; including the live music in the 8th floor bar. Still, I can't imagine why the owners have chosen not to update the facilities. It's old and stuffy without sufficient outlets to plug in devices. This is by no means a five-star hotel. It is more on par with a low grade motel.

Yelp
Good location and staff here are very friendly and welcoming. Wifi is free with email address and free mini bar comes with a few soda beverages and enough room to store some other stuff. I wanted milk for my coffee so I bought it and stored it overnight. I love nespresso machine in the room. Room service is fast and you get plenty of food. Don't order side dishes as they get confused and bring a full main dish. Breakfast is great with very nice view. Overall great hotel.

Yelp
This centrally located hotel is considered one of the city's best. In reality this is a business person's hotel: Small, clean, modern rooms with no soul + a helpful staff = very expensive rates. Was okay being here for work but would not want to stay here for my vacation.

Yelp
Superb hotel! We booked this hotel on hotels.com and paid about $150/night which we thought was a great deal. Room was 215 sq feet (20 sq meters)...bigger than most standard European hotel rooms I think..well def than our hotel room in Paris for sure. We actually had room to walk around the room even with our luggage on the floor. Bathroom was sizeable and toiletries were all Hermes. BEST PART - Everything in the mini bar was FREE! There were sodas, juices, sparkling water, regular water. It was great to come back to the hotel after a long day of walking and open up a cold refreshing diet coke w/o having to leave our room. Hotel is located a couple blocks from Place Bellecour which is pretty central to great restaurants and the Lyon tourist office. Walking to Vieux Lyon took us about 15 minutes which was great. WiFi was free and also faster than other hotels we stayed at in France. Overnight parking underneath the hotel was 25 Euros/night.

Yelp
Chris and I stayed here in Jan 2015. This is a 5-star Hotel! It was as I was told it would be, "Magnificent!". I did not want to leave this place! Our room was spacious and just lovely!!!

Yelp
Disappointing; this hotel really needs to be renovated. It's like walking into 1964, and not in a good way. Definitely not up to the usual Sofitel standard. That being said, the food and service in the hotel restaurant is superb.

Yelp
These folks beat them all! Been in a LOT of hotels in the US, Asia, and a few in Europe... They are extraordinarily Nice! The bath amenities are Hermes (actually smells good). The final unbelievable/unusual item is that ALL of the in room refrigerator items are included in the room price! YES...you can have the juice, the water, the Cokes from the refrigerator without aggravating you bill! Very close to the Lyon Metro station in the Bellecour section of town. If you arrive be TGV, as we did, that's 2 stations on on (Metro) train with a change for one more station. Although many travel with small rolling bags by train and Metro, the negotiation through the crowds at the station, on the train, up the stairs...you get the idea (if you packed heavy). The taxi is a 10-15 EU ride (depends on traffic, tip, and the additional per item charges for putting bags in the trunk). Location is good. Lots of eateries (we preferred seeking out the local places to get the Real taste of Lyon) in the area. Walking distance is defined individually. Definitely within a 2 mile radius. Lots of shopping too (see my Yelp of TrioVino. WIll definitely stay here whenever we come back to Lyon!

Yelp
I really ought to update my review, because in spite of the remodel problems, the staff did their best to overcome all of that with their excellent customer service. As it turns out, my wife became very ill during our stay, and the staff went out of their way to accomodate her. They filled up our little fridge with waters and juices (at no charge) and cleaned the room around our schedule. So we do owe them a big "Thank You" for that. MERCI.

Yelp
We loved this hotel - the spare, modern decor, the extremely helpful staff, the fact that our room had a large, walk-in shower (important for elderly, overweight people like us). The location is great, very close to several wonderful bouchons and brasseries, a beautiful public square, and the Musee de Beaux Arts (which has a first-rate collection). There's a free minibar (no booze, just water and juice). We really enjoyed our stay.

Yelp
Well-kept hotel in Lyon, centrally located to Old Lyon and the main sights (walkable but bring comfy shoes)! Our room was on the first floor, very clean with a huge shower/bathroom (they gave us the handicapped accessible room which was great to have the extra space). This sofitel had a Nespresso machine, minibar full of cold drinks (free water and juices and soda) and Hermes bath products! Loved it :) Their attention to detail is very much appreciated. The breakfast buffet in the morning has a huge spread of hot items, fruits and pastries. The only downside is that they didn't offer made to order eggs as part of the breakfast buffet (they cost extra). Otherwise it would have been perfect. Overall this is a great hotel to stay in Lyon and I highly recommend it as a place to call home while in the city.

Yelp
Probably the best, high end (maybe the only?) hotel in Lyon. Quality service and nice rooms.
