The 19 Best Hotels in Montreal

"The Sofitel is a tall silver tower presiding over Sherbrooke Street near the McGill University campus. Its lobby is peppered with low-backed chocolate leather couches and a vibrant patterned throw rug, making it feel like something out of the '70s. One night in one of the elegant rooms at the Sofitel, and you’ll get why this Golden Mile hotel is a first choice for so many professionals traveling to Montreal. The French-inflected brand puts a premium on gorgeous spaces, refined service, and excellent (French leaning) cuisine, and Sofitel’s Canadian flagship is ideally situated between McGill University, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, and across the street from decadent shopping at Holt Renfrew Ogilvy. The hotel is currently undergoing a massive renovation and will reopen in 2025 to coincide with the Sofitel brand’s 60th anniversary–and we have no doubt that its next chapter will be no less fabulous than its last." - Isa Tousignant, Todd Plummer

Sofitel Montreal Golden Mile

"Set the scene for us.The Sofitel is a tall silver tower presiding over Sherbrooke Street near the McGill University campus. Its lobby is peppered with low-backed chocolate leather couches and a vibrant patterned throw rug, making it feel like something out of the '70s. What's the room like? The mid-size Sofitel feels warm, thanks to the stylish art, marble bathrooms, down comforters, and floor-to-ceiling windows. How are the in-room amenities? The eminently pilferable bathroom toiletries are by Hermès, the window-facing desks will inspire great work sessions, and the Wi-Fi is free. Where should we go for food?Renoir, the in-house restaurant, serves everything from French food to healthy smoothie bowls. For drinks, settle into a cushy armchair at Le Bar and order a small-batch whiskey neat. As you're checking out, what's your lasting impression? One night in your plush signature bed at the Sofitel, and you’ll get why this Golden Mile hotel is a first choice for so many professionals traveling to Montreal. Minimalist and playful with good art in every room, pops of bright color, and Victorian accents (culled from the estate of North American railroad pioneer William Cornelius Van Horne), the property delivers on all fronts. Order the stuffed duck breast at the French restaurant Renoir; it’s filled with chanterelles, ricotta, and butternut squash, then spiced with cardamom." - Isa Tousignant

Now that the Sofitel has been renovated, it is a pleasant hotel, without being over the top. Elegant lobby, friendly service throughout and great location in downtown Montreal. The room was spacious, as was the bathroom, with all you need. Good sound insulation. The bar is nice with possibility to have a light meal, as long as the music isn't too loud. The equally refurbished restaurant serves as the breakfast venu, as well as for dinner. Breakfast is excellent (for dinner at this restaurant, see my separate review). We were there for 5 nights during the Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend, so prices were very much on the high side, but that was the case at all Montreal hotels at the same time. There was some problem with the room cleaning on one day, but promptly put right.

We usually stay at the Queen Elizabeth when in Montreal but due to an ongoing strike chose the Sofitel Montreal and are so happy that we did. The property itself is beautifully designed and maintained. We booked a junior suite and it was perfect for a couple…lots of space and beautiful views of Mount Royal. What really set the property apart was the customer service from valet to the doorman, the concierge, housekeeping staff , reception staff and the hotel manger. Everyone went out their way to provide the best in customer service that we have seen in our numerous stays at other properties. We will definitely make the Sofitel Montreal our choice in the future. Many thanks to Cristina Gonzalez and her staff!

We had a wonderful stay until our very last day. The service was excellent, the beds were super comfy and hotel itself has been nicely renovated. My sons and I fled to the Sofitel after being at a different hotel in the area that had significant cleanliness issues. The Sofitel became our haven until the last day when we decided to eat breakfast at the hotel restaurant. The service was incredibly slow and we waited over 30 minutes for our food. My 10 year old sipped slowly on his glass of cranberry juice and the glass literally cracked in his mouth! There were shards everywhere and one shard scratched his face and blood was on his face. I quickly got the glass away from him and beckoned a person over who looked Ike the manager. I told him what had happened, asked him to take the glass away and showed him my son's cut face! He said sorry that happened, I will get you a wet towel. He took the broken glass away and returned with a wet cocktail napkin. He then simply left! No offer to get him another glass of juice, no asking if he was ok, no offer to check the area for shards, simply walked away. I was appalled! Our waiter eventually showed up and I explained to him what happened. I asked him to get my son another cup of juice. He said, so sorry that this happened. By this point, I had lost my appetite as had my son. They took away our full plates of food and presented me with the bill! It was so very callous. I left completely shaken and shocked that any hotel could treat an injured guest this way but particularly a hotel that bills itself as a luxury brand. My son's face still has a cut on it and no one has even cared enough to inquire as to his well-being. So very disappointed in the Sofitel.

The entire staff was welcoming and friendly. The hotel decor is so European modern. Perfect location, close to everything we needed. Very spacious bedroom and bathroom for 4 adults to share. Pleasantly surprised overall. My one suggestion is to install USB outlets in the room for both IPhone and Android.

This was my third stay at this hotel but the first without any apparent indoor renovations taking place. Service was very good and the renovated restaurant Le Renoir and bar area was excellent - great friendly service and the food was great. I am starting to feel that its elegance and service is starting to surpass those of the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth which has been closed for a while due to a labour dispute. Killian at the reception was extremely helpful and managed to accommodate my preferred room choice. I will be back!

I had a late lunch with my partner at the Sofitel Montreal last week. From the moment we arrived, the staff were warm, helpful, and genuinely welcoming. As a guest, I felt truly valued. The food and beverage quality was superb, and the ambiance struck the perfect balance between relaxation and sophistication. I highly recommend it.

An exceptional stay at Sofitel Québec. The service was outstanding, with friendly and attentive staff. The room was elegant, comfortable, and well-equipped. The location is perfect for exploring the city. A true moment of luxury and relaxation. Highly recommended.

Google
This is our first stay since the hotel was refreshed. The service was top-notch; the lobby and restaurant and bar renovations look great and match the offerings; and the room was comfortable and clean. A great choice in Montreal. We will be back.

Yelp
Spent two nights here and it was a okay. Bed was soft and comfortable, although my better half found it to be too soft. Bathroom had a waterfall shower and a tub. City view was okay. The fitness center had about six machines, some dumbbell weights and exercise balls. My reservation included breakfast at the onsite restaurant (one hot drink, one cold drink and one dish) and they do a great breakfast.

Yelp
The room was nice. Shower had nice power. To be charged $18 plus taxes for the urban experience was beyond ridiculous. Was that to experience a hotel under construction? Was that to be given wrong directions of where to walk to a place?

Yelp
Sofitel Montréal is a fabulous hotel, clean and attentive, excellent staff , the beds and breakfast buffet are phenomenal. They pride themselves on a top notch sleep experience and they are not wrong. I was excited to see they accepted dogs , we have a small quiet pooch. But their daily charge per day is high and much to my chagrin they make you sign a document that you will not leave the pup in the room or they will charge you and take the dog. So we had to spend even more money to hire a dog sitter.

Yelp
I have no idea how the Sofitel hotel considers themselves to be a luxury hotel; it was extremely disappointing and there are many nicer hotels in the area at this price point. Despite the website's announcement of lobby/restaurant relocation to the second floor, the entirety of the lobby was under construction, with no operational restaurant or bar in sight. Instead, breakfast was served in a conference room at an $45 per person! There was no where to go at the hotel besides our room; a disappointing experience considering the premium prices charged for luxury accommodation. Furthermore, the hotel's policy of charging $25 per day for a refrigerator to store leftover food and water, coupled with restrictions on accessing the "in room" beverages, felt exploitative. The gym facilities were also subpar, featuring only 2 ellipticals and 2 treadmills, reminiscent of smaller establishments like Courtyard or Springhill Suites. The absence of a pool, rooftop, or bar further diminished the overall experience. Despite the ongoing construction, the hotel failed to provide any compensatory amenities, yet maintained high prices, I've encounter better amenities at less prestigious brand hotels. On a positive note, the front desk staff displayed exceptional friendliness. However, although myself and other guests expressed their frustrations, there was a lack of effective communication and resolution from management. They didn't seem to care. Overall, this hotel falls short of expectations and fails to justify its purported luxury status.

Yelp
You stay here for the location. My room was next to the elevator so it was meh. AC did not work properly either. View was of a building undergoing construction. Staff seemed polite enough. Again, you're really staying here for its location everything else is just basic.

Yelp
The person I was with had their Gucci sneakers thrown away by the cleaning service on the first night that we arrived. We promptly told the front desk about this and they insisted they would locate the missing shoes asap. They never got back to us...we never got the shoes back. 3 days before departure, the cleaning staff came and cleaned the room and accidentally missed a pencil on the floor that should have been picked up. I was wearing my slippers but the pencil caught the side of my foot and it punctured my foot super deep. At first they sent up a bellhop to deliver a bandaid lol...one bandaid no antiseptic. Then after my friend explained to them the severity of my injury they sent the manager of operations to properly bandage my foot and clean it with antiseptic, she was nice. However, they offered no apology, just nothing for this whatsoever. This happened over a week ago and my foot STILL hurts to the touch. It was a very deep wound. (You can match the carpet of the hotel to my pics and you can see I'm telling the truth) The "Balmain" soaps made me break out and mind you, I have Balmain's FW23 revitalizing care set products at home. I use their soaps outside of Sofitel so to experience any kind of reaction was very strange to me. The staff is nice however, for being a 5 star hotel you would expect a lot more. The only good thing about this hotel was the Renoir restaurant they have attached. Anyone reading this, I would recommend you stay at the Ritz or the Four Seasons up the street from here and visit Renoir for lunch.

Yelp
We booked a reservation here in April only to be notified upon arrival that the lobby is under renovations. Breakfast is very good, bed is comfortable but the hotel is dated. Plumbing in bathroom is loose in the shower, silicone chalking all over the place in the bathroom shower and tub. Staff was very nice and the location is great. This is a three star hotel at best. The temporary lobby has a collection on small tables to make up the front desk. Sorry to be harsh, but is a joke!

Alison B.

Yelp
This hotel's staff seems to have a serious issue with throwing away valuable items of their guests because the person I was here with had their Gucci shoes thrown away by the cleaning staff and when the hotel staff were alerted to this they offered not a single thing for the loss of those expensive shoes, not even an apology. The cleaning staff also carelessly left a hotel pencil on the floor right after they cleaned up our room which then ended up stabbing my friend in the foot and seriously injuring her causing her to limp for the rest of our trip. At the time of the incident we had to call the front desk and request a first aid kit because she was bleeding a lot and the wound was deep. They sent one person up with bandaids and nothing else. It was only until we called the front desk again that the director of the hotel was sent up to the room with a first aid kit. I thought it was nice that the director came and personally attended to my friend but the hospital never apologized or offered anything for their staff's careless mistake. Some of the staff at the hotel were nice but one of the cleaning lady's was very openly rude as well. The hotel also charges $60 for the wine in the suite and when my friend and I looked up the exact wine they offered online it was a $15 bottle. They also charged us $60 for even touching the wine at all (not drinking it, just lifting it up to read the label). The suites also contained Balmain products in the bathroom which normally my skin takes well too but the products they had gave me a rash. The Renoir restaurant offered in the hotel was delicious and really the shining star of the entire stay here but it is not good enough to justify staying at this hotel. Highly recommend visiting the restaurant and booking your stay anywhere else but here.

Yelp
Really enjoyed our stay here this week and would definitely return - super comfy room/bed, tons of fluffy towels, coffee pods refilled promptly, etc. Would have loved the option of controlling our own room temp as our sunny side exposure made our room too hot one of the days, but the hotel was very accommodating and offered to move us (we opted to stay put and wait for the day to cool off, which was fine). Everybody here was friendly, and the location was ideal for everything we wanted to walk to. Would strongly recommend!

Yelp
Not to say that our previous hotel in Québec City wasn't spotless....but it was ni...ce and......diff...erent. Located in the Golden Mile section, (this side of Ville-Marie, almost looks like NYC's 'Midtown'), Sofitel has a certain crispness, cleanliness, airiness and sophistication. Since we loved Montréal the first time we visited, we wanted to wrap up our 2nd part of our Canada trip, by staying here. Driving to their entrance was easy. And Valet immediately tended to our car as we arrived then Checked in with our reservations at the front desk. Extra friendly (and that my friends, is the difference between Montréal and the folks up in Québec!). Sofitel's Lobby, has their own dose of artistic expression with Modern artwork, visual art with their Copper fireplace filled with swords and musical notes. Balanced that- with a soft and graceful touch. Along with a Custom Made, Men's Suit shop on the Main floor and their own Restaurant. Sofitel's scent was clean-everywhere! There was no off smell on anything. I instantly loved Sofitel's crisp, white sheets. I'm real finicky when it comes to where I sleep. Not only do I wanna sleep comfortably- but who the freak doesn't want to sleep in plush, scentless and up to date sheets??? Room was comfortable and bathroom- tasteful. Even the view of a busy city street from the 12th floor, was pleasant- (this is definitely not NYC). This is the 2nd (of many to come) hotels, that we've stayed in Montréal. Really like how Sofitel taps into the whole artistic flair. We enjoyed our overnight stay and is a keeper. Gracias. Merci.

Yelp
Stayed here recently on a short trip to Montreal. The service was excellent and the room was fantastic! I especially loved the bathrobes and the location being close to Downtown Montreal and the underground shopping network. The beds were superbly comfortable and in the mornings I almost didn't want to get out of bed. Our floor (8th floor) was very quiet. Housekeeping was very good as well. Definitely 5 star hotel and worth the money!!!! Definitely would stay at Sofitel Montreal Golden Mile again.

Yelp
The reason for 3 stars instead of 4 is because the price does not match the experience. The hotel was lovely. Our corner room was clean and comfortable (although the closet door and bathroom doors opened into each other, making it awkward). The city view room looks across the street to another building, so not much of a view. 2 nights at the hotel cost us $1000 CDN (inclusive of $45/day parking). At that price point, we expected a little more luxury. While there was nothing wrong here per se, I would not stay here again.

Yelp
Excellent hotel! Would both stay there again in the future as well as recommend to friends. Well located in Montreal. Courteous staff. Clean and spacious rooms. A+ bathroom. Has a wireless charger for phones in the room which I thought was a positive touch.

Lyz H.

Yelp
BEWARE: housekeeping will throw away items not in the trash and management could not care less. I would not recommend staying here unless you want to return to your room and find something thrown away. My husband and I stayed here in August 9-13, 2023. We had something of sentimental value thrown away by housekeeping. Why are they throwing away anything that's not in one of the trash cans? We still had days left in our stay, so there was no reason for them to be tossing things outside of a trash bin. But worse than that, we shared our frustration with the front desk attendant about our item being thrown away and she was incredibly dismissive and rude. What atrocious customer service! She said she would have the manager call us, but the manager has yet to do so. The utter lack of follow-up should knock this hotel down a few pegs. There was a very simple solution that could have remedied this situation but the hotel chose to be dismissive and ignore us instead. Spend your money elsewhere so your sentimental items don't get thrown away.

Yelp
This is a beautiful luxury hotel in Montreal's Golden Mile, conveniently located about 10-15 minutes from the Grand Central train station. My boyfriend and I arrived around 4pm to check-in (check-in starts at 3pm), but they apparently did not have our room ready. Their excuse? They were having hiccups in the system, and sent someone to to check if it was ready. They did of course offer another room to us, but we politely declined. Considering that this is a 5-star hotel, the staff could have handled this a lot better knowing that their system acts up frequently. Fortunately, we only waited about 15-20 minutes until we were told the room was ready. Now moving on to the room, we had booked ourselves a luxury king suite on the top floor. The suite itself didn't seem too big but the restrooms were clearly very well maintained and clean. The bed was super cozy and comfortable, and we had a beautiful view of Mont Royal. We did, of course, order room service, and had the mushroom pasta, the foie gras, and the French onion soup. The food itself wasn't too bad. The pasta was the only dish that was bland but was easily fixed with salt. I definitely would book here again for the simplicity, location convenience, and the cleanliness of it, but hopefully, the next time that we do, checking in would be a lot more smoother.

Yelp
A fine hotel but definitely not a real 5 stat experience Rooms were tiny! But the hotel itself was clean, nicely maintained, and the on site bar (Renoir) also very nice but closes early

Yelp
It was horrible and spoiled what would have been a lovely Montreal long weekend. I left 4 hours after arriving. The staff is poorly trained and seems to be kids left to their own make-believe devices... it's passably mediocre if you're only adults checking in but if you have a furry friend with you, it can be deadly. This is not a dog-friendly hotel, this is a leave your dog there and pray they don't decide to take your dog for a walk without your approval and without leashing the dog properly kind of place. Upon arriving they made me sign a waiver that I was fine with. If my dog barks or makes some noise they would 1) contact me and then if they can't reach me and get me back to handle my dog in a timely manner 2) move my dog to another part of the hotel like the concierge room (nowhere do you give permission for the hotel to take your dog to the busy downtown streets). I arrived, got ready for dinner, and went two blocks away, keeping my phone on the restaurant's table in case the hotel called me. 3 hours later I get a call "your dog was making noises so we took her out of the room and one of our concierges is now walking her in the street until you arrive". I had received no previous warnings...I get back in the hotel 2 minutes later and see that my dog wasn't properly harnessed - she could have slipped off the harness and fled in a city she doesn't know and would have likely never been found again. I was livid. I received no apologies and the staff instead fought me on this telling me: 1) I agreed to their poor decision-making and behaviour by signing the waiver. I made the reception person read that waiver again so he would understand he was never given the right to do such a thing 2) that it was my fault for leaving my dog unattended for "so long". I only left for dinner and dogs aren't allowed in restaurants... what does Sofitel expect? That we don't leave our dogs inside their supposedly dog-friendly hotel when we eat? 3) that my dog "asked to be taken out because she wanted to pee"... WHAT?? You speak dog?? what else did you guys talk about?? My dog did not need to pee, she had been out 3 hours earlier before entering the hotel and pees 3 times a day. She likely was wondering who were these strange men fumbling a harness on her and pulling her out of a room where our belongings and her bed were. After this happened I took my things, packed my bags and left the hotel as I could not trust them with anything - not my dog and none of my things either. That was 3 days ago, I have yet to receive an apology and a refund for this atrocious, weekend wrecking service. Sofitel, I'll make sure everyone knows how much of a joke you are for risking my dog's life like this.

Yelp
Lot's of amenities including a bar and restaurant in the lobby, fitness room, and a couple of computers to print your boarding passes or whatever. Wi-fi was included, which was one of the main reasons why I chose this hotel, but it was very spotty. I finally figured it out and I had to go to my bathroom to get to the working wi-fi router, since the whatever wi-fi router was near my bed didn't get me online. Pretty annoying. Unfortunately, this was a known problem by the staff, but I guess nothing could have been done about it. But other than that, I loved the location. Couple of blocks from the Peel Metro. And couple of blocks from all the dining and shopping in downtown.

Yelp
Except for its central location to shops and restaurants, this Sofitel hotel lacks high-end quality amenities (the king size bed and pillows were overly worn and flat and what I believed to be a "lounging" chair in my "luxury" room are substandard -- the furniture seemed like they were from Ikea) to be charging high end rates. The lower rated and less expensive Le Westin has far superior beds and bedding and it has an indoor pool and Jacuzzi -- I should have went back there! I'll never stay at this Sofitel again! As for location, the area where Sofitel is located is hotel row -- there are tons of other hotels, offering better amenities are lower prices and equally or better location. My supposedly 400 square feet room (which I paid extra moneys through Expedia) feels cramp and the shower is smaller than what is advertised on this hotel's website! (But the water pressure through the shower head is very robust and great for water massages.) Misleading and deceptive advertising -- the bathroom shown on this Sofitel's website is for the more expensive Jr. Suite! No wonder there is no description or caption on the website photos. I got lucky and stayed in a room on higher floors (after my second night at a lower floor, very noisy because of constant rain dropping on the rooftops over the second floor), providing me with some nice views of Montreal's burgeoning skyline and glimpses of Mount Royal. But if you're stuck on lower floors or get a room overlooking busy Sherbrooke Street, you'd be looking at an office building directly on the opposite side of the street and an ugly tall, large hotel to the left on the opposite side of the street. Hotel Omni, where I stayed years ago, has many rooms that provide lovely views of Mount Royal and at much lower prices and the Omni is a short walk away from Sofitel on the same side of Sherbrooke Street West. The staff there is equally nice and professionally helpful. And the bathrooms are much nicer with Victorian decors. The staff at this Sofitel is exceptionally professional and accommodating. I rate the entire staff an A but the hotel itself deserves nothing more than a C+. The in-room "free" WiFi is slow (and annoying and inconvenient because you have to re-register each day to use the free WiFi -- I lost some work when the connection was severed at about 3 pm one day) but a guest can pay up to C$10 to C$20 plus a day for a faster in room WiFi connection and local phone calls are C$2, resulting in C$86 charges for the five days I stayed there! (I think local calls are free at Le Westin hotel.). It might have been cheaper if I had used my US AT&T hosted iPhone to make local calls to restaurants and shops. And the worst part is that this hotel keeps charging me twice on my credit card for each transaction, compelling me to clear it up with management -- extremely annoying!!!!! This is a very small hotel compared to Le Westin, Hyatt Regency (which I rank higher than this Sofitel) and Hotel Omni which has classier rooms, nicer furniture and common areas. I'd stay at any of those hotels on my next trip back to beautiful and culturally sophisticated Montreal! The people in Montreal, whose downtown is very much a college town mostly because of the venerable, sprawling McGill University, are diverse and very friendly even if one is not bilingual in French and English. I've never done this on Yelp but this is my first recommendation to advise folks to stay away from this Sofitel! (I had a lovely and smooth stay at the Sofitel in Nice, France!). Why couldn't it have been the same at this expensive Sofitel! Montreal is a wonderful diverse place for foodies (but don't go crazy like me otherwise you'd end up spending way too much money at overrated places and funny looking food)! You'd find great food everywhere you turn in downtown Montreal, whether "underground" or above ground eateries and new and long-established restaurants. But I'd shy away from staying at this overpriced hotel and its overpriced restaurant -- it does a huge disservice to the global Sofitel brand! Expedia did a very poor job of verifying the quality of this hotel; if it had done an inspection, it would have found out how much this hotel is in need of a complete remodeling and how badly all of the furniture and beds need to be replaced. Renoir Restaurant, this hotel's restaurant, too is way overpriced but the food is good, the ambiance is modern and nice but the views of outside is horrible -- you're looking directly at an ugly, large hotel (it looks like an old tenement building in NYC with iron balconies that resemble fire escapes) on the opposite side of the street; ironically, that hotel might have been better for me to stay for much less money. The grilled octopus was tender and lovely but the fish I ordered was too oily and the accompanying eggplant was slathered with way too much olive oil! The Chablis didn't cut the excess oil on the food.

Yelp
This is my favourite hotel out of the 5 or 6 I've stayed at in Montreal. The service is the best, the beds are the comfiest - the sheets are so soft, the pillows are so fluffy, and the mattress itself feels like a cloud - and everything about it screams luxury. They no longer seem to offer yoga mats in the rooms unless it's asked for, unfortunately, but it's not a huge deal. Also, I wish they'd be more consistent about putting a tealight candle in the room - but again, it's not a deal breaker. I will say though, that I once got placed in a "corner room" which I assumed was an upgrade but was actually the opposite, because there was no bath tub. But other than that, I've only ever had very positive experiences here. They include a nice little treat for turndown service, and the staff in the restaurant, Le Renoir, are the best. At one point last year they were giving out breakfast vouchers as a promotion and the breakfasts were just incredible (though the croissants were soft instead of crunchy - maybe they were a day old?). This is my preferred hotel in the city and it's like coming home every time.

The sofitel has hosted us on a couple of trips to Montreal and it' reliable, consistent, clean and contemporary. It's a nice option right on Sherbrooke close to St Catherine's and a 10 min cab ride from old montreal, Mont Royal, St Laurent and the old port. The rooms are spacious and some come with a small sitting area (ours did this time). This is the perfect respite after a full day of walking, eating and dancing on montreal. You can just plop into the X number thread count sheets (not sure what count they are) and melt into the marshmallow pillows. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and really most of the time, we're only in the room to sleep. A couple of bones to pick: there are no trash bins in the lobby which is a little irritating especially if want to clear the cup holders of the coffee cups you've piled up after a road trip. Also, on the AM of our departure, house keeping knocked on the door 2 or 3 times asking when we were leaving even though checkout wasn't until noon. This had never happened on our prior stays and was mostly annoying. The toiletries were Le Notes de Lanvin nothing super fancy, but nice. The soap smelled amazing, but the body lotion and conditioner have a manly scent to them. They offer bath robes and slippers for your stay. (Tip: the slippers are super soft and complimentary!) On your way out they put a couple of water bottles in the cup holders, I guess it's their valet version of a mint on your pillow? It was a nice touch but the water was not cold... at least they tried.

Yelp
Great location and service. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean, the beds are very comfortable. Our room and bathroom were very small. That's the only negative. We didn't try the restaurant but it seemed to be quite busy. The bar was spacious and nice, also with great service. Parking is valet only buy they bring the cars out very promptly upon request. I booked it through Hotel Tonight and got a reasonable deal. Based on the size of the room, I don't think I would pay the going rate...

Yelp
What makes a hotel a good hotel? For me, it's when I sleep comfortably in the bed, the staff is friendly, the location is good, the room is quiet and clean. We got a deal on booking.com (still expensive, keep in mind this is a 5 star hotel) and spent 3 nights here during New Year's. Pros: great location - moments from central downtown and a metro station; bed was great, room size was great, cleaning staff did a great job; room hair dryer was maybe the weakest in North America so I called down for another and got a better-working one Cons: room was always freezing; the bathroom door doesn't shut (design feature) which is really awkward and there's no bathroom privacy; concierge was never very helpful and almost a little rude (when I asked for a brunch suggestion all he would offer me was the hotel restaurant brunch); told us coffee was served in the lobby when we first checked in but it was never to be seen Biggest "faux pas" (pardon the French) was that when we checked in she FAILED TO MENTION that we got FREE WIFI in the room. After a day or so of eating data, my traveling companion called down to ask about how much wifi cost -- and the front desk staff still BARELY admitted that there was free wifi, mostly pushing the "$20 high speed internet". So don't be fooled!

Yelp
PROS: quick check in/professional front desk staff floor to ceiling window in bedroom and bathroom warm feather bed complimentary bottled water a/c worked well flat screen with lots of channels nice shampoo, conditioner, lotion from L'Occitane Nice part of downtown location room was pretty clean/no bad smells (spotted an old contact lens on the bathroom floor though) Bose radio with IPOD connector Free granola bars for breakfast in the lobby/decent tea Didn't hear my neighbors through the walls metro about two blocks South CONS: Windows in the room do not open The complimentary coffee in the lobby wasn't good Doors slam-the percussion from slamming doors even made the room door rattle too Doors banging throughout the night and then starting a 5 am! The restaurant was expensive, had slow service and the food wasn't that great Feather quills were poking me through the feather bed Pillows not the greatest-uncomfortable Soap made in China Anyone can get on elevators and off on floors/could use better security To get a newspaper had to asked for one at front desk

Yelp
Location and service wise - excellent. The place does need a bit of a face lift, but you really do get quality here. It isn't cheap, so you're definitely paying for it. Tip: You can park for half the price around the corner at the Cartier Tower (with no in and out privileges).

Yelp
Over this pass weekend, I was lucky enough to be on a press trip for TASTE MTL (post here) and Tourisme Montreal (@montreal) couldn't have chosen a better hotel for us. Hotel Sofitel (@SofitelMontreal) was amazing, located on the Golden Mile right in the heart of the city perfect for both business travelers and art lovers alike since it's basically away from the Museum of Fine Arts. For the foodie in me, love how it's surrounded by all the different types of restaurants. Love the black pumpkin decor they have up for fall, love the height of the bare branches with the chandelier in the lobby, that the first thing you see when you go in. We each had our own room and I was totally surprise at the size of the room with the incredible luxurious feathertop and duvet sleep system... so comfy that I could have stayed in bed the whole day. And did I mention that they make sure the room is tidy up before your return in the afternoon plus you'll find the decorative duvet pulled back and soft music playing when you come back at night. They probably noticed how much empty water bottles in my room, the 2nd night they left 3 bottles for me. Even the bathroom was rather large with both shower and bathtub. Lower the light and light a candle, I can spend eternity in here. And we all each welcome with a personal not and this amazing cheese plater with a bottle of Maple Syrup with was the theme of this year's TASTE MTL Breakfask in the hotel's restaurant Renoir ~ L'Américain $29 We actually got complimentary breakfast but I have to say that this is rather pricey for what it is although it was perfectly made. Sunday Buffet Brunch $49 ~ In comparison to the breakfast, this was a deal with such an amazing buffet spread including oysters, smoked salmon, fish, tons of different pastries, charcuterie, cheese, roast beef, assortment of desserts and made to order omelets and waffles.... ~ oh and did I mention the bottomless french press coffee. ~ The waffles are so so so good, perfectly warm fluffy and buttery goodness. Verdict : ~ Wish they had a location in closer to home (Toronto or Niagara?!) and it would be a perfect staycation. ~ Would love to spend a relaxing day just in the hotel or even only in the room. ~ The staff was very professional, helpful and extremely friendly.

Yelp
Great location, Rue Peel, Mont Royal and Rue Crescent are all within walking distance as well as major metro stops. The suites are super spacious, and the concierge very helpful and kind to tourists. Service was quick with valet and with luggage. Beautiful restaurant located in the lobby, including a full bar that gives you a nice view of downtown. Be careful of the mini fridge in the rooms. If you open it, it charges your room automatically because it's motion detected. They assume you use something in there, even if you didn't. They don't tell you that however, unless you read the welcome pamphlet.

Yelp
Ambiance: Excellent Room: Excellent Service/Concierge: Excellent Parking: Expensive Location: Excellent This hotel is a solid 4 star as the location is great and it is somewhat newer. The prices can get real high real quick so watch out for the prices. I got a deal through hotwire so it was affordable. We were here for the new years and concierge was very helpful in finding us last minute spots and places that were open around new years (I found the hard way that a lot of places close down during new years) Initially were given a smaller room but after pushing a bit we were upgraded to a higher floor and a nicer room. When we came back to the hotel back we were invited in a for a free toast of champagne in the restaurant in the lobby a very nice gesture. Now for the downside there is only valet parking and it can add up really fast.

Yelp
As a frequent traveler, a bit of customer appreciation sure goes a long way! Nothing over the top is needed but a few thank yous and remembering my name go a long way. And a room with luxurious touches is helpful too! We stayed at the Sofitel for my 30th birthday while staying in Montreal. We had just spent some time at Mont Tremblant and had a pleasant visit up there. I'm Platinum status with Sofitel's loyalty program, Le Club Accor, so that certainly added some bonuses to our visit. From the moment we stepped on property, we were greeted by everyone with a smile and a Bonjour. Our room was on the Penthouse level which had excellent views of the city center. Not sure if the rooms facing Mont Royal are better as the views are a tad obstructed. The property isn't brand new but it's very well maintained. The bathroom was my favorite feature with marble throughout, a large separate bath and shower, and Lanvin toiletries. The cozy robes and towels were nice as well. The room wasn't huge but plenty spacious and extremely clean. Cleanliness is very important! All of the staff was incredible and I appreciated the welcome champagne and dessert. The staff checked on use each evening to make sure we had plenty of coffee, bottled water, and towels.I also loved the Keurig coffee maker in the room. Plus, the location is very convenient to the Metro and the 747 express bus to the airport. We rode transit on arrival but a taxi back to the airport since we had so many bags. It's a flat $40 to the airport by taxi. My only dislike of the property was Renoir, the restaurant hotel and bar. I'm keeping my experience separated from this review but I did not care for the bartenders at Renoir. The staff was not warm at all. Very cold and pouty. I definitely would return to the Sofitel for a stay in Montreal in the future. I appreciated the post-stay follow up from the management. I would definitely recommend this hotel property to anyone visiting Montreal.

Yelp
Very disappointing! At check in there was a large group in the lobby, a reunion perhaps that was so loud that we could barely hear to check in. The person checking us in apologized for the loud group but it was still distracting. Don't they have conference rooms for gatherings? Then we get to our room and it was TINY! We paid extra for a superior room and we could barely walk around the bed and there was no tub in the bathroom only a standing shower and it was small! we assumed it was a mistake and called the front desk and they said it was a superior room! If that was superior what does a standard room look like?! The front desk told us we could upgrade to a bigger room for an additional $40 a day, which wasn't the plan but it felt claustrophobic so we upgraded, which meant switching rooms and giving me no time to get ready for dinner and making us late for dinner reservations I had made weeks in advance, I was NOT happy. Coming directly from a 5 star hotel in Quebec City, this definitely didn't feel as equal. The beds where comfy, free WiFi, free water, free coffee and tea, but we had those same amenities in Quebec. Here at the Sofitel, our coffee was not replenished daily, and I'm a big coffee drinker, the fridge is fully stocked with censored items so you can't put your own items in there, as a foodie, I had things I wanted to put in the fridge. This Sofitel does not live up to the Sofitel standards, I've been to other Sofitel hotels and they where much nicer, this one feels a little dated. We definitely won't be staying here again.

Yelp
We just came back from a week of being on cloud nine at Sofitel...perfect location, just half mile from the Museum of fine arts, the Catherine St, the McGill University, to the peel metro station...everything is close by but at the same time far away from the craziness! The service is stupendous...Saad, the hotel keeper is the best!, Mario at the reception is awesome!, Derek in Renoir made us feel very special people ;)

Yelp
We came here with average expectations. They were not met. At check in, we found the reserved room type was not available, so we were downgraded in order to get the two double beds we required. In the room, the desk chair was broken. Later, when we tried to leave the room, the door handle pulled straight off the door. The front desk, and housekeeping manager all told me that the hotel manager would get back to us to address these issues; one week later - no contact. Housekeeping never replaced the (a) in-room glasses, (b) coffee, or (c) ice bucket liners. Every night, we would have to call to have these replaced. The first call never worked, so after 20 minutes, a second call was required, every night for three nights. Local calls cost $2 each. I've stayed at the Montreal Intercontinental as well, you would be much better off taking your business there.

Yelp
woohoo, open up the floodgate, heres some international yelping for y'all! so a group of us went up to the neighborhood up north for some bachelor party hijinx (maybe later kids) and we found this place on priceline or something like that. anyway, we got this guy for a steal! a steal jerry! what can i say, nice linens, awesome steam shower (heads everywhere) great location, it was cheap (think exchange rate a couple of years ago and discounted website..) and there were a few of us in two room, ok, there was 9 of us in 2 rooms, i slept under the desk, which has high speed internet! but even the carpeting and extra bedding was comfy. if i had to go back i would totally consider finding this place to stay again. c'est ce bon!

Yelp
Boy do I love this hotel! The two times I've stayed here, have been fantastic. I'll take you on a rundown of my favorite parts: The beds: Oh my lord, you've never slept in a more plush bed. Down comforter, down mattress cover, down pillows. There might as well have been 40 geese surrounding me throughout my slumber! The lobby: I know the lobby isn't a big deal usually but this one is unique. It's quite chic with some creative decor and a non-threatening atmosphere. The bar: There wasn't a place in Montreal that put more whiskey in my coke, enough said. The location: You're 2 blocks from the rustle and bustle of Ste. Catherine, being on Sherbrooke Est. It's worth the walk to not have to deal with the idiot drunkards (myself included). The crew: Everybody who works at Sofitel Montreal went out of thier way to ensure my comfort. You would think it would be like that everywhere, but Montreal has a rich French heritage so that is not the case. All in all it's getting 5 stars for being my favorite hotel in my second favorite city in the world!

Yelp
I arrived in Montreal at 8:30 AM and the Sofitel hotel at 9 AM - well before the designated check in time. Without hesitation, the hotel provided my room at no extra charge. The room was very clean. My only complaint is the bed. It was very soft and during the night, it felt like I started to slide towards the middle of the bed. (But, to each their own.) The hotel is situated in Downtown Montreal. It was incredibly convenient to walk to many destinations: Eaton Centre, Museum of Fine Arts. The hotel is also close to Old Montreal and Chinatown, around a 10-15 minute Uber ride. Uber was incredibly useful during my stay. However, there was a surge price at one point (from a normal $30 to $80) when I wanted to travel from the hotel to the Montreal Biodome and Planetarium. Thankfully, the hotel was a 5 minute walk to the Metro and the hotel's concierge was kind and helpful and he explained how to use the Metro. Being from NYC, the ease and cleanliness of Montreal's public transportation was much appreciated. Recommend: 100% Stay again: 100%

Yelp
Will never stay here again!!!! The water pressure in the shower was terrible! The bed had a wow in it....must be the same mattress since the hotel was built...horrible...worst sleep and woke up with a sore back. Breakfast is over priced....actually it's absolute rip off!

Yelp
We booked this hotel through Hotels.com to attend Eric Church concert. It has now been cancelled so we tried to cancel our room. They flat out refused. Not even an offer for a partial refund or a change? I am extremely upset. This was not a cheap room and I wanted to stay out on the West Island to save money. Never again. Not only will I not ever book here again, but even though Montreal is where I was raised, I will not ever even return to Quebec. Staff are very rude and we have had nothing but bad experiences when in Quebec.

Yelp
Husby and I stayed here for 4 nights during the Jazz Fest (which is still going on); actually, we just checked out yesterday early morning. Likes: *Allowed early check-in. We got in from the 747 bus from Trudeau Airport, which dropped us off at Rue Rene Levesque and Rue Stanley, and just walked a short 5-8 minutes to the hotel Monday morning around 9 or 10. *Close proximity to everything, including downtown Montreal. As other reviewers have stated, it's a few blocks away from busy Rue St. Catherine, as well as Rue Crescent for the bar scene. Also, it's close- 2 or 3 blocks- to the base of the stairs up Mont Royal. Bring running clothes- it was well worth the space in the luggage for an amazing experience. Close to the Metro (Peel stop), which is only 2 blocks away. *Huge, comfy bed. Great to fall asleep in after a day of being on your feet. *Well-stocked bathroom. It had enough towels, toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, bath wash, lotion, cotton swabs, loofah, etc.). *They switched out a regular alarm clock radio for one with an iPod dock- I think this should be standard in all hotels. We had brought our own, and I guess they just wanted to give us a Bose for the rest of our stay. :) *Great staff. We met Elgin, a front-desk person, who had visited our hometown recently, and struck up a convo with while checking in. Husby said the concierge and bellhops were all kind and told him where to get some late-night poutine and snackies (a convenience store around Rue Stanley). And Dislikes: *No coffee maker. I like to have the convenience of drinking a cup in the AM, just to get my day started. *Stale bar crackers. They served Asian rice crackers which lost their crunchiness a few days ago. Otherwise, the bar/lounge/restaurant was pretty cool. We had a nightcap once and the drinks were good- enough to make me tipsy. Good job, Sofitel! During our stay, I didn't try the food at the restaurant Renoir, the room service, nor the fitness center. But why eat in when Montreal has so many great restaurants and why work out in the gym when you have so much walking to do around the city, and Mont Royal to "climb"? :P

Yelp
I've been a Sofitel fan since staying at their Philadelphia, PA location - it's my barometer to compare other Sofitels/hotels. This location is: - Centrally located between Mont Royal, St Catherine's (2 blocks away), Crescent Street (3 blocks), and Old Montreal (10-15 min walk) - The valet was super easy to deal with - just call 10 minutes before you need your car - A sleep inducing bed and great modern bathroom I'm splitting hairs, but my only "negatives" were: - A weak hair blower and "non-ironing" iron - We had a view of the apartment building next door. One of the units must have had a training dummy in the window and it looked like a creepy person staring at us like a Alfred Hitchcock movie (I must have looked the same way) - I paid using Sofitel reward points, but I was killed on the exchange rate only given 0.89 US cents per $1 Canadian (the exchange rate was actually 0.96 at the time)

Yelp
Staying at the Sofitel in Montreal was a comfortable end to my summer in La Belle Province. The Sofitel is in a great location - in the heart of the Golden Square Mile - in the middle of downtown and very accessible. We had booked our stay during a very busy time of the year - a few days before the Grand Prix weekend. The hotel was booked choc a bloc, but service was unfailingly polite and prompt. Kudos! Our group arrived a bit early and we had to wait until 3 pm for the room to be ready, which was the normal time for check in, which was a bit of a bummer. I had requested a room with nice views and we were kindly accommodated on the PH floor with sweeping views of both Mont Royal and Sherbrooke Ouest. Sherbrooke is a special street: a main arterial road that is both modern and aristocratic a la 5th Avenue in NYC. Mont Royal was lush green and sight for sore eyes. The bathroom was spacious and had Lanvin products which was nice. Room service was great throughout our stay. The concierge was very knowledgeable about the newer places in town which came very handy. The only thing holding the hotel back is that it is beginning to look a bit dated: at least the decor is. The carpeting needs to change. I did like how they've incorporated scenes from the city into the artwork in the elevators and the rooms. With the nearby Ritz having undergone a complete makeover, the Sofitel will be well served in considering slight cosmetic changes: a nip here, a tuck there never hurt! Overall, the Sofitel is a tad pricey but it's totally worth it as are you!

Yelp
Mathematical!!!! I am all about the Sofitel. My sister and I booked our trip on Bookit and got a pretty good deal :) It's not exactly architecturally stunning on the outside, but the lobby is beautiful with comfy couches, a lovely bookcase, candles everywhere at night, and 3 computers in one corner with free internet access which I needed because my name is Kristelle and I'm addicted to facebook. Excellent staff. The room was ginormous, clean, and seriously awesome with tons of storage space. So awesome that the first thing I did was take off my clothes and dance around the room...sorry occupants of the building across the street. Bed is ridiculously comfortable and I cannot say enough nice things about the room service. We ordered dinner once (their french fries are divine. DIVINE.) and breakfast twice. I freaking dream about their pastries. Great location, the Peel, Mont Royal and Crescent street are all within walking distance, as is Burritoville. In fact, on our first day we walked to Old Montreal and back, but the hills be killin me son! Would stay here again, for sure.

Yelp
Recently we had the privilege of experiencing a perfect night's sleep. Where did this luxurious event occur you ask? It was at the Sofitel Montreal Golden Mile and yes it was wonderful. The hotel is conveniently located in the heart of Montreal and is ideal for business travelers and art lovers alike. The Museum of Fine Arts is close by and guests are only a short walk from the shopping district as well as many of Montreal's fine restaurants. However if you want to eat great food, you do not have to leave the premises as the Renoir restaurant is conveniently located in the hotel lobby and offers magnificent meals. Off the bar area is the outdoor patio. Usually reserved for summer, however, starting this winter you can enjoy a drink on the heated patio at the Renoir en Sucre. There are 241 rooms in the hotel including 17 suites. One of the suites was our room of choice, it was spacious and grand featuring Sofitel's luxurious feathertop and duvet sleep system - SoBed. The bed was so comfortable it felt like you melted into it. The suite included wifi and a Keurig coffee maker with several choices of coffee and tea and a great view of the Montreal skyline. The bathroom was our favorite part of our Sofitel Montreal Golden Mile suite. Brightly lit it included both a tub and divine shower. All of the standard amenities are included, and guests are also provided with soft robes and slippers. After our restful night, the morning brought sunshine and a trip to the hotel gym. The gym is supplied with state of the art machines and a welcoming sauna to relax in after working out. After exercising it was time to try shower once again. No weekend at the Sofitel Montreal Golden Mile would be complete without a visit to the Renoir Restaurant where the amazing chefs have prepared a sumptuous Sunday Brunch. What a way to end a weekend of rest and relation.

Yelp
Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Sofitel Montreal. The location is very good: walking distance to the McGill University campus (a nice area for a casual stroll), Mount Royal (a must see), and the Montreal Museum of Arts (another must see). The staff were very polite and professional. The property and rooms were clean and well-maintained. Easy valet parking. Would probably stay there again. However... 1) The rooms are fairly small. We stayed in a junior suite, and i think it was the smallest suite I have ever stayed in. The bathroom was fairly spacious though and had all the necessities one would expect in a top tier hotel. 2) Unless you get a top floor, the view may be underwhelming. Our suite (6th floor) was supposed to face Mount Royal, but, frankly, all we could see were the neighboring buildings (and a tiny glimpse of the park). 3) The fitness facility is quite small. I was expecting more from a hotel of this class. But we did enjoy our stay and liked the location. And, yes, they are a VERY dog friendly hotel!

Yelp
For an average joe as myself, this hotel felt very luxurious. The rooms were all neat, clean and tidy. The hotel staff were all friendly and courteous. The food and drinks were delicious. From my standard room I had a really nice view of Mount Royale. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Had a good stay here. Room was nice and comfortable, though not stupendously large. I like the low-key approach to bed-making: basically, a nice, clean comforter. Found the bed very comfortable. Location was okay. Looking at a map, it didn't seem to me like a long walk to the Old City; that impression was incorrect. But there is a Metro stop one block away, and a couple of depanneurs (convenience stores) two blocks away, and a taxi stand right next to the hotel. So, in that sense, it was all good. Real stand-out was the staff -- courteous, professional, attentive, friendly, nice, and helpful. Every interaction was lovely. Have to take off one star for WiFi. Though I very much appreciate that it was free -- data roaming rates are ridiculously expensive for users of US phone service in Canada, so WiFi connectivity plays an outsized role in one's visit to Canada -- the Sofitel's WiFi was clunky to connect to and slow.

Yelp
It's fine but not for the money. Although they were clean the rooms are small and dated. It's fine in a pinch but I won't be going back as I feel there are other more modern hotels in Montreal for the price they command.

Yelp
For whatever reason, my fiancé always insists on going to Montreál when it's cold AF. Part of it is because it's to celebrate our March anniversary. Part of that is because he can find baller deals on Priceline. Either way, because of his persistence, I not only find myself with a new pair of stylish snow boots, but also having stayed at some of the best hotels the city has to offer, for a very nominal price. One thing's for sure--the service at the Sofitel is exceptional. However, of course, everything comes at a price, and people do expect tips. When we arrived, we had quite an amount of random baggage, so we needed a cart. I would have been perfectly happy to take the cart up to my room by myself, but before I could grab it, a bellhop had literally taken it away from me, headed to a service elevator, and said he'd meet me at my room. Tip! Another tip to the guy who didn't ask but just began removing bags from our car. Okay! And a very large tip to the concierge who made dinner reservations for us during what is apparently a time where all the restaurants have festival specials (we were there during Montreál en Lumiere). Our room, while nicely decorated, almost made me cry when I arrived. Imagine: I had already worked a full day, then took four hours to drive to Montreál (which, I HATE road trips), hadn't eaten since lunch, and was exhausted. And I go to the end of the hall, open the door, and........the size was something I'd have thought for a Microtel. Not a Sofitel. Literally, there was barely enough space for the king-sized bed and a chair. It was SO tight that when we ordered room service--on three occasions--it was too tight for the cart to be wheeled across the room. I get it, we're being punished for using Priceline, but that's just harsh. Also, the fridge is actually a minibar, so if you are like me and normally USE the fridge in the hotels, do yourself a favor and bring a rolling cooler with you or something. But, I guess, enough for my gripes. Once I slept and had some food, I was a bit less grumpy. One entire wall of our small room was windows, floor to ceiling, and we did have a pretty great view from the 14th floor of Mont Royal. The bed was exceptionally comfortable. The rainshower in the bathroom was fabulous. And as always, the Lanvin toiletries and the take-home slippers are just nice touches. Turn-down service (tip, tip, tip!!) was also excellent--I'm pretty sure they even folded our clothing. Oh, and I should mention the room service. Room service was always quick (as opposed to our local pizza delivery here in NY, lol), and always plentiful. I feel like at most hotels here in the US, room service is always woefully overcharging for small servings of lukewarm food. Not so here. Yes, room service comes at a premium cost, but your eggs benedict is far more than just eggs benedict. First, servings are generous. Second, not on the menu description, we also received sauteed potatoes, a lovely fresh fruit cup, a shot of guava juice, and a basket of fresh croissants. I don't think I've ever had a better room service experience. Oh, and everything was hot! And one morning, we had a Do Not Disturb sign on our door, and someone actually called us with our food...on the phone...asking if we could open the door because the sign was up. I should also mention that we had an exceptionally difficult time staying connected to the complimentary Internet. And so they had a service guy help us, and eventually bring us our own router, just to make it work. So, I suppose, what Sofitel lacks in space, they more than make up for in service. For that, I would be more than happy to stay here again.

Yelp
Pros: Clean rooms, comfortable beds, free coffee/water, free wireless, friendly valets and reception, ideal location Cons: A/C was a little finicky, parking is $35/night Very nice hotel and I would recommend it to others. The location is great because it is close to everything but not too close so you avoid excess noise/promiscuity. The free wireless is great so my friends and I could look for restaurants near by and things to do without paying for roaming data. The beds are very comfortable, pillow top mattresses -- I think I could sleep the entire day in them. I was impressed with valets because instead of being pushy and taking my bags, he asked if I needed any assistance.
