I just love Sofitel! Stayed at the Porte de Sevres Paris location. This is NOT in the center of town, but I didn't care, most everything is a five minute ride away. That's one of the best parts about repeat visits to cities. There's nothing you HAVE to see! There's nothing you HAVE to do! You just eat, and shop, and people watch and party! No eiffel tower, no arc, no louvre, no Versailles. I can't wait until I'm on multi-repeat status with every major city in the world, but I'm still making my initial visits to many a place.
This hotel was modern, sleek, and the bed was soooo incredibly comfortable. Down comforters, pillows, it was just heavenly, and I should know because I was under the weather badly for the better part of the weekend. That's when I found the brochure stating that the entire Sofitel MyBed system could be purchased for $8K.
So sick I rang the concierge and a doctor was knocking on the door an hour later. A private, in room exam, written prescriptions all to the tune of $100??? THAT'S A STEAL!!! You gotta love socialized healthcare when a doctor think's he's fleecing Americans for $100!!! For a "home visit"!!!That would have cost at least $250 in the Great US of A. No doubt. Perhaps significantly more.
Restaurant was great. Bar was great. Concierge was great (the French truly put the concierge in concierge. I love them).
Now - this is where I messed up. Missing my flight, and being told they could get me on one in 2 days. So I searched and saw there was a Sofitel by the airport. Yes, airport hotels are notoriously bad no matter the name on the marquis. This was bad. No MyBed, no modernity, just bad. So moral of the story is no matter your favorite line of hotels, there are always variations between properties, even in the same city. Oh yeah, and don't miss your flight.
