Sofitel on Renmin Square (Xi'an, Shanxi Province) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"With every decade that goes by China opens itself further to the West. By now Hong Kong feels like it’s right next door, and Beijing and Shanghai are quickly losing their air of exoticism. Even Xi’an, the eastern end of the Silk Road, is finding itself more and more accessible to foreign travelers; surely it’s a sign of the times that the top hotel in town is the Sofitel on Renmin Square, an utterly modern luxury hotel from the French-owned international chain." - Tablet Hotels

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights, it took around 40 minutes to get to the hotel from Xi'An Bei railway station by taxi at a cost of around £5-8 depending on the type of car. The hotel is around a 30 minute walk from the bell tower so it is in a good location. The room was good we had the Junior Suite it had a comfortable bed with loads of space and a good bathroom. With the room we had Club Sofitel access which gave us access to some drinks during opening hours, afternoon tea between 3pm-5pm and happy hour (better drinks selection and dinner buffet) between 5.30pm-7.30pm which was great. Breakfast had a good selection of Chinese and more western cuisine. This hotel is a great option for your trip to Xi'An.

We recently stayed at the Sofitel Xi’an and had a truly wonderful experience. From the moment we arrived, the warm welcome set the tone for our visit, with special thanks to Andy and Leo at the front desk who went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. Andy Song, in particular, is a real asset to the hotel – professional, friendly, and always ready to help with a genuine smile. In our 30 years of travelling the world and seeking advice from various concierges, we have never received as much support and guidance as we did from him. His care, enthusiasm, and attention to detail were inspiring, and his willingness to assist with every request made us feel truly valued as guests. Thank you, Andy!

Location is excellent. Its a 8 min walk from Wulukou station and shopping centre. Bell and Drum tower 30 min walk. The staff were excellent, I really enjoyed talking with the Andy, he was very helpful and could always suggest where to go and how to find things. I arrived earlier than the check-in time but staff had no problem finding me a room that was ready. I didnt buy food from the hotel as the Fresh Hippo, next to Wulukou station sold good quality fresh food and it was very cheap. I was in a room overlooking a balcony (which no-one had access too). The balcony was dirty, cracked, covered in moss and it had a large over-hang which meant limited natural light got into the room so it was always dark.

The location is fantastic, the rooms are spotless, and Drum Tower is just a 20-minute walk away. During my last visit, I was generously upgraded to a king suite. The concierge was incredibly thoughtful—when I arrived late at night, he checked if I was hungry and even ordered food for me over the phone. Such attentive service made my stay truly memorable!

We stayed at this hotel for four nights and, for the most part, it was utter perfection.||We had booked a junior suite with club access but were delighted to be upgraded to a full suite on arrival. Check-in was excellent, I believe the staff member who helped us was called Sophie, and she was incredibly friendly and helpful. There is always a lift waiting at the ground floor which is super helpful as you never have to wait when you return. ||Our suite was spacious, located on the 10th floor, with a separate living area and bedroom, and two toilets — a really comfortable setup.||The executive lounge was a definite highlight, offering teas, coffees and beers throughout the day, cakes with afternoon tea, and a light buffet with drinks during happy hour (5:30–7:30pm).||Wi-Fi was fast and reliable, as was the air conditioning. The bathroom, while slightly dated in style, was immaculately clean and well maintained.||Housekeeping did a fantastic job each day, and the room was serviced to a high standard.||The only let-down was the pool area, which felt a little neglected — especially the changing rooms, which could do with some attention.||The only real downside was the location. While it appears to be within the centre of the walled area, there aren’t many nearby shops or restaurants. With the intense June heat, we found ourselves relying on DiDi to get around.

Impressive stay here - stayed for three days and this is one of the best Sofitel I v ever stayed in. Reasonable price for a junior suite- helpful and friendly staff - got free breakfast and free afternoon tea every day! And they quality was super. You also get free cocktail and champagne in daily free afternoon tea loads of choices on the menu. I was impressed by the quality. Room was extremely quiet and comfy - was told that this place used to be part of the government and serving important political persons so it was maintained to the very high standard

Good hotel, well located. Good breakfast and gym. The pool is recreative, not suitable for swimmers. The rooms are old, and so are the air-conditioning units that are noisy and sometimes do not work, like happened to us. Our room had a weird configuration with windows from the bedroom to the bathroom, so, no privacy. We had to hang some towels to block the visuals and have your moment, to yourself. If you are ok with sharing "those" moments with your companions, then, not a big issue. The hotel staff is friendly and very helpful.
