Sofitel on Renmin Square (Xi'an, Shanxi Province) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"With every decade that goes by China opens itself further to the West. By now Hong Kong feels like it’s right next door, and Beijing and Shanghai are quickly losing their air of exoticism. Even Xi’an, the eastern end of the Silk Road, is finding itself more and more accessible to foreign travelers; surely it’s a sign of the times that the top hotel in town is the Sofitel on Renmin Square, an utterly modern luxury hotel from the French-owned international chain." - Tablet Hotels

Pros: - rooms are spacious and comfortable - we had 2 adjoining rooms, and it comes with a washing machine which was very useful. - breakfast buffet is excellent - staff are professional, friendly and helpful. - Big thanks to Sophia Liu on the front desk who spoke great English and was very kind and helpful, she provided excellent service. - location is fine, about 25 mins walk to Muslim quarter Cons: - hotel is a little dated - not all staff speak English which is understandable, and google translate is useful in those situations

Recommended. The hotel environment is elegant, the overall cleanliness and service attitude is service. Warm and thoughtful, meticulous, from the front desk to the house cleaning. Everyone is smiling every time they meet, and every staff member of the concierge is attentive and thoughtful, enthusiastically helping to send anything needed, and the house helps to send anything needed, every time they face it with a smile, careful and thoughtful. And the location of the hotel is also very good. Also,The hotel is a non-smoking hotel.

Sofitel on Renmin Square in Xi’an is a refined hotel with very impressive common areas. The lobby, lounges, and shared spaces all reflect a classic, elegant style that creates a luxurious first impression. The atmosphere is welcoming, and the staff maintain high service standards.||Breakfast is excellent, offering a wide variety of freshly prepared dishes and a good balance between Chinese and international cuisine. It’s definitely one of the hotel’s strengths.||The rooms are generously sized, providing plenty of comfort and space. However, they are starting to show signs of age and would benefit from renovation to match the elegance of the public areas. Although everything is functional and clean, the décor and some furnishings feel outdated.

We had a very comfortable stay at this hotel, it was quiet, clean and well maintained. The staff were very kind and attentive, especially the concierge, Leo, Will who were always available for all our requests. I hope you continue to provide excellent service! I highly recommend this place. Xi'an is a very special destination that allows people to connect with Chinese history and traditions. It was a relaxing and rewarding experience.

Never allow hotel staff to change your pre-booked room under the pretext of an “upgrade.” In many cases, this simply means your original room has been sold to someone else, and you’re being pushed into a substandard alternative. I had reserved a "Luxury King Room with City View", but was instead placed in a so-called “upgraded suite.” I could have refused, but given the late hour, cold weather, and my busy schedule, I reluctantly accepted. The suite was larger, but that was its only merit. It was run-down, had no view, and was marred by stains throughout. The bathroom design was both impractical and unsafe—glass panels and awkwardly placed doors made it nearly impossible to use without bumping your head or knees. On the positive side, breakfast was excellent and the staff were attentive, deserving five stars. Sadly, the poor room experience overshadowed these positives.

Stayed here for several nights in December. The hotel is fine, but tired. It could really use an update and more attention paid to amenities like putting better coffee in the rooms. Shout out to Andy in Conciege who is very enthusiastic about helping with things like directions and general information. That he has very good English was helpful and appreciated. The location was good, not too far from the subway and some good eating options around.

The Conceirge booked us a magnificent tour to see the Terracotta Warriors. We chose a private personalised tour with a driver plus a tour guide. The Tour Guide, Nancy, was exceptional. Her English was excellent, she added stops to our itinerary to allow us to see some local theatre on the way back to the hotel. She found lovely local restaurants and catered to meet the needs of my gluten free and dairy free diet. Nancy was so good we booked her again for a second day to see more sites and restaurants and a further 2 local shows. Nancy made our stay in Xi’an exceptional and she showed us another side of Xi’an not normally seen by tourists. I highly recommend Nancy if you require a tour guide in Xi’an 😊

Hotel is in a very pleasant and clean area which is only about 10 minute walk away from Wulukou train station.||The most basic room is spacious enough for a couple staying 4 nights. Room was fresh without any trace of smoking smell. ||Room was cleaned very thoroughly daily. Even though we encountered a couple of room defects, they got fixed in a timely manner. ||We had breakfast once and it was pretty good. ||All the staff we encountered were helpful. ||It was a pleasant stay.
