The Freedom of Chartering a Catamaran in the British Virgin Islands

"And one afternoon we make the near-mandatory swim to the Soggy Dollar Bar on Jost Van Dyke, wet cash in hand, and order painkillers (a cousin of the piña colada) while the boys play ring toss in the sand."

AMAZING!!! I love the VIP experience you get!! ! We stayed in beachfront cottage #2 and it was gorgeous… we can’t wait to go back!! From the wonderful staff, to the bar after hours , the drinks … I just can’t say enough good things!! The staff know who is staying there and they are constantly asking you what they can do for you. Jamie, Annie, and Michelle were amazing 💖. Worth every penny!!!! See ya next summer !!!!

Everything about Sandacstle was amazing. Michelle, Annie and Jamie didn't miss a single detail in ensuring that we have a wonderful stay. The rooms were perfect, the food served at breakfast, lunch and dinner was excellent. And the Painkillers, well you know... Thank you so much for a lovely stay. We left a part of our heart on White Bay when we left. We will certainly be back! ❤️The Wilsons

Wonderful week at the Soggy Dollar, Sand Castle hotel. We loved everything about our stay. The staff are wonderful and the owners are just precious. We can’t wait to come back. We are already booked for our next stay! FYI- the coffee bar is fabulous and the honor bar was my husband’s favorite!!!

We stayed at the Sandcastle Hotel/Soggy Dollar this past week. The place is beautiful. It is very clean and very well kept. They have a nice area at the beach roped off for hotel guests. That made it easy to have a seat near the water. The beach is steps away from the cottages. The cottages are steps away from the Soggy Dollar bar and the Spice Restaurant. Very convenient for everything there. The service was impeccible until the final night of our stay. The ONLY complaint that I had is that when we went to dinner, the staff was focused on the service of the owners family birthday party. We were seated first and served last. Really put a damper on a most PERFECT vacation otherwise. Everyone went out of their way for our comfort the entire stay except for dinner the last night. The people here work very hard at keeping this place pristine. I could not find a cobweb or a weed growning in the lush vegetation anywhere. Hats off to the workers here. Some I saw working at 8 in the morning and still here working at 8 pm. I have never stayed anywhere where the staff was regularly asking if I needed anything at all. I would recommend this place for a very relaxing and near perfect service vacation. Convenience at it's best. The food in this little restaurant was very good. I was constantly impressed. Our servers were always friendly and smiling. It's a perfect gem in Jost Van Dyke.

Everything and everyone was top notch! Our cottage was adorable and clean with little well thought out extras, from the beach bag, hats, refillable water bottles to lanterns & bug spray. The food and drinks were all delicious! The staff was truly amazing and always happy to assist. The view and location is breathtaking! We had a truly amazing experience and booked a return trip for 2026 before we left. Thank you !

Soggy Dollar bar on Jost VanDyke BVI is my happy place. I have been all over the Caribbean, Mexico, South America and there is not one beach that compares to this. This is our second year staying at the Sandcastle cottages on the beach at Soggy Dollar. We stayed in cottage number two that is right on the beach. It has a spectacular view of the beach and all of the boats that are anchored in front of us. The cottage is very spacious with a nice shady porch, sliding glass doors to look at the view, a nice king size bed with an alcove with a chair for sitting and reading. The bathroom is a good size with a single sink. There is a door that goes to an outdoor shower that is built with beautiful stonework, and it is open air at top or you can see the top of palm trees. Kaddie and Michelle manage the check in and other guest details. they are wonderful! The SDB staff treats us like VIPs. From the restaurant, Spice, to the bar, to the gift shop, they all knew our name and treat us so nice. The entire staff is friendly, courteous, and professional. Big Bird, Jamie and Dr. Leon took good care of us at the bar and made delicious painkillers. Spice is the restaurant for breakfast and dinner on most nights. The food is excellent. Every dinner that we have had there has been a five star treat. Annie and Jamie do a wonderful job managing every aspect of food and beverage, and then some.. Thank you to the entire SDB staff!!! We had a wonderful meal at Spice at Soggy Dollar. The Caesar salad and black bean soup were delicious appetizers. We had salmon and shrimp entrées.The service by Geoffrey and Reyoncé was friendly and professional. The atmosphere was superb. They played light dinner music at the right sound level so you could hear yourself talk. The view was amazing!!! I highly recommend this restaurant also

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Our stay at The Sandcastle at Soggy Dollar was nothing short of magical! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth, genuine hospitality, and a vibe that instantly made us feel at home. The attention to detail and level of service was above and beyond—especially thanks to Michelle at the front desk, who went out of her way to make sure every need was met with care and a smile. Getting to know the owner’s family and the amazing staff truly made this experience unforgettable. It’s rare to find a place that blends laid-back island charm with such personal, attentive service—but The Sandcastle nails it. We’ll absolutely be recommending this gem to anyone visiting the BVI, and it’s now officially a must-do stop on our annual vacation list. Thank you for the incredible memories—we can’t wait to return! 💙🏝️🍹

The hype is completely accurate! This is a wonderful spot for drinks (make sure you get a frozen painkiller!) and the staff are absolutely fabulous, friendly and welcoming. The beach it is situated on is one of the most beautiful beaches we had the opportunity of visiting. Painkillers are 2 for $18 or a frozen painkiller is $12, subject to change of course. Little on the expensive end but it's well worth it in my opinion. We came from a cruise and it took us about 45 minutes to get there on a catamaran followed by a short safari bus ride. There's a gift shop as well there with tons of stuff, it is a tad pricey but the quality of the goods seems much higher compared to the average touristy shop. Definitely worth stopping at the soggy dollar!
