Soho Theatre

Soho Theatre is a great spot to grab a coffee. It’s a cool place to hang out, with a relaxed buzz and a proper creative atmosphere — you’re surrounded by artists and interesting people, which makes it feel a bit special. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, and it’s well worth stopping by whether you’re after a coffee, a quick beer, or just somewhere to sit for a bit.

Saw Alice Fraser in the upstairs room. Really small intimate venue that meant there's great connection between the performer and the audience. There's a lift to all levels for those needing accessibility. Handy pre-order facility for drinks & snacks too. Can get busy if there's shows both upstairs and downstairs on the same night, as all access is through the main ground floor bar. Friendly staff. If you like comedy this is definitely a venue to keep an eye on the listings of, as most acts will come through here during the year on tour. Photos are of the ground floor bar area.

went to see a saturday matinee of the two man play " this bitter earth " . storming performances from both actors , most excellent production. the theatre is cosy and intimate , the staff front of house and bar are amazin , friendly and helpful. would definately return. well worth the trip from manchester

I have only visited the bar, not the theatre, but I love it. It is usually full, but not crowded, the music is good and loud enough to be enjoyable but allowing conversations without having to scream, the beer selection is nice, the ambience is great, not too young and rowdy, and the staff are super friendly. For me, that's perfection.

This is such an awesome Theartre. I have started to come here regularly. There is a good variety of what I would describe as fringe theatre as well as comedy and other small productions. The stage downstairs can sometimes feel as though you are part of the show :) The stage upstairs is a little larger and has more traditional seating.

Very buzzy venue with so much going on. Cool ground floor bar for a pre-theatre drink too. I saw weather girl in the upstairs theatre which was a great size and no bad seats. Me woman show was amazing and I hope to go back and see more talented performers.

Brilliant theatre which just feels you're back at the Edinburgh Festival. You sometimes see shows that are heading to the Festival and at other times, shows that have come down from there. Recently saw fabulous Little Brothers. Brilliant. I love this theatre.

A great little theatre. I had to change my ticket and the staff were so thoughtful. Really enjoyed the show and the atmosphere.

I find myself here every time I come to London. It has really great shows, an intimate downstairs space where great comedy happens. In April, I got to see the George Lucas talk show here and tonight I returned for Patti Harrison. I unfortunately, had not heard about the Harrison show until it was already sold out; but I was able to call the venue and find an extra ticket. They were really helpful and made my night! I've also had really good interactions with the staff, both of the Soho theater and the bar.

Watched a brilliant comedy show with Sara Pascoe "Animal" the theatre was really cozy and you were very much feeling like it was a private show. Probably one of the best comedy shows I've seen... I came here for the first time last week to see Australian comidian Nick Cody. I really liked the venue, which surprised me, as I was expecting some sort of small dive place. When you walk in, the box office is to the left with really friendly staff. To the right is very large bar area, which for Soho seemed quite spacious ( I would cme here again just to use the bar). The bar itself takes up the whole of the back wall. They have quite a large range of draught beers too. The auditorium that I went to was in the basement. It was larger than I though it would be. It was set out cafe style with small tables that held about 4 people. We managed to get one in the front row (it was free seating). It gave the venue a nice comfortable intimate feel. You could also have your drinks in the auditorium too. In fact there was a bar along one of the side walls. It looks like its a flexible auditorium venue that changes its configuration to suit the production. I would definately come here again!

Fantastic lively venue for good theatre, or just a place to hang out. The theatre is on 4 floors with rooms for rehearsal, a bar,theatre, exhibition space & eaterie. In the heart of Soho,it is also near some of the best places to dine in London, so after a good show you have a huge choice...

Came to see Bourgeois and Maurice yesterday in the "comedy" part of the theater as part of the "London Laugh" initiative and had a thoroughly good time. For a mere 750 pennies, we got to see a man dressed as a woman singing about stalking, gays and Ritalin as well as 2 beers! We sat on the bar stools at the top as we were a bit late (hum, waiting for the boy who always need to pee) which meant that we didn't get to audience participate. (Dang!) The space is pretty good and the downstairs bar looked pretty cool. Not sure how much everything cost as we got free drinks... I would defo come again, highly recommend B and M if you haven't seen them yet and even though i hate the London Paper (I prefer the one which doesn't stain my macbook) I think this London Laugh thing is pretty special. Soho Theatre is a surprisingly quirky, intimate performing space in the heart of Soho. Well, at least the downstairs bit is where I saw the one man show 'Bane'. It's not a conventional theatre. In fact, the tightly packed tables, candles, bar off to the side, stage very close to the audience and basement location give it more of the air of a jazz club. But it worked when I was there. Indeed, it could perhaps be said to facilitate an experience closer to theatre's roots than the usual larger, tiered seating and more distant stage common to standard theatres. The audience comprised the kinds of young, artistically-inclined people you'd expect to find working and loitering in Soho. Some possibly taking their art a little too seriously but 'twas ever thus. Service was quick and friendly.

Louis CK had me in stitches. Seriously, I bruised my stomach with laughter. But although the comic was my main reason for going to Soho Theatre I must admit that the venue was just as impressive as the performance. It's very intimate. It's too small for rows of chairs, so when you're a member of the audience you're rubbing shoulders with your fellow spectators. Unless you're sitting next to a smelly sweaty guy with atrocious halitosis you'll enjoy yourself because being in close quarters with other people who are into the act that you're seeing really makes the experience ten times more intense and pleasurable. There's a bar downstairs, so if you need to get a little lively before the show you're in a prime location. But don't drink too much because you don't want to disturb the audience in the middle of the performance with your disruptive toilet run.

We went to Soho Theatre last night to see the comedian Paul Foot. It was Awesome! We were in the downstairs cabaret bar. I have to say it was was on the most intimate yet casual comedy venues ever. I think its my new favorite. You can sit around a table, enjoy being close to the stage and if seeing Paul Foot, enjoy him talking into your shoulder. I loved it Will definitely be checking out emerging talent playing here

The Soho Theatre is one of my favourite places in London, I always leave here with sore ribs from having laughed too much. I'm a lover of comedy, and this place has a pretty fantastic schedule of top-notch standup comedy performances and sketch comedy. The prices are usually pretty decent as well, even if the comedian is quite well known. Book in advance - headliners will sell out!

I need to give the Soho theatre a big shout out for what they do for young writers. They help out, the encourage and they motivate. And they will accept scripts from anyone. This does not mean that they will put on any old waffle, everything I have seen there has been of a very high quality. The space is small but intimate, I really like it and it has a real character. They have a variety on events going on, so keep an eye out on the website- from comedy to music to straight theatre. The bar is pretty cool too an after show tipple. A great place to get involved with in any way.

The Soho Theatre is a producing and developing theatre based, predictably, in Soho. Their record is punctuated by many notable successes in new writing and new writing development, and a handful of duds. There's something steadfastly populist about what they put out, so it's not always to my taste, but the service they provide for new writers and in nurturing young and new voices is critical in the city. Of their ongoing programmes perhaps the most notable is their script reading service, providing detailed, free of charge professional dramaturgical feedback to any writer who forwards a script.

Ive seen some brilliant comedy, one-woman shows, conscious new writing at Soho theatre. Most recently I got to see John Leguizamo do a sketch comedy piece on the true history of South American people, which was brilliant. There have occasionally been a couple of questionable shows I've seen here but it's so rare I still keep coming! Cabaret area downstairs is a great casual place to see a show and grab a drink. Soho theatre bar also has a great casual atmosphere.

I watched a fantastic German comedian last month in their downstairs space and absolutely loved the familiar atmosphere. I'll definitely be back for more some time soon.

I came here on a Thursday night in early July to watch "The Suitcase Royale", which was in the downstairs venue. It's a great, dimly lit, casual bar setting with drinks served right up until the show starts. I came alone, but was fortuitously joined by two friendly (and gorgeous) women :) After the show we went upstairs to the main floor and had talked over a few drinks. Great atmosphere in the bar and reasonable enough prices (at least from my limited experience of bars in London). They convinced me to come for another show starting a little later that night: "Late Night Gimp Fight". Definitely not something I would've gone to see on my own, but these ladies had been very nice to chat with me - a complete stranger - on their night out, so I thought "why not?" I was also a little bit drunk. But mostly I was persuaded by these nice new friends of mine. I'm glad I stayed. "LNGF" was performed in one of the upstairs theatres, where the whole set seems to facilitate interesting stage entrances from all sides on (and off) the stage. The seats were comfortable and while there wasn't a bar up there, everyone was in great spirits. I don't know if the shows I saw typified the sort of shows one should expect at the Soho Theatre, but I'm hoping they do. "The Suitcase Royale" and "Late Night Gimp Fight" were some of the cleverest, funniest, raunchiest performances I've seen in a very very long time. And for the price I paid, it was an unbelievable value. My only regret is that I never got the names of those two girls. Big world full of people, probably won't ever see them again. But I imagine the Soho Theatre is just the type of place that attracts nice, funny, inviting people to it - so I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you check it out even if you're alone. Maybe you'll have the same experience as me, and get to know some amazing people (if only or an evening). I can't imagine a small theatre being better than this, so it gets a perfect rating.

I went to see Girls the play last night at the Soho Theatre and couldn't recommend it more - amazing acting, really thought-provoking. Soho theatre seems always have a lot on, and is more affordable (£16 a ticket) than a lot of theatres in London - definitely recommend!

Saw acclaimed Fringe Festival performer and improv artist Sam Simmons perform here over Christmas holiday. With quality of performances hard to believe this is a new spot in SoHo. Bar and restaurant is a suitable pre-show hang out.

A classic comedy-style space. The seating is cramped around minuscule tables, but it's still a good little spot as there isn't a bad seat for a view in the tiny basement space. We saw the No Such Thing As A Fish (Q.I.) podcast perform/record here and really liked it!

I've been around to a lot of theatres in London but only recently started coming here. I saw James Rhodes rock out classical musical and stand up comedian Ronny Chieng shortly after the Fringe. I've only been to the space downstairs and really like that it's small and intimate setting. Wherever you sit, you will get a good view. It's usually unreserved seating so get there at least 15 minutes early to settle into a spot.

Great space and lots of good comedy shows on the bill. The seating is arranged so that you can actually see what's going on on stage. Staff are usually pleasant, apart from one visit where we encountered some snarky ushers.

Would highly recommend getting on the mailing list for this place - to be the first to hear about £5 last minute work in progress shows. I've seen so much fantastic comedy here, and the ticket prices are very reasonable. There's no fixed seating, so if you get there early, you can usually grab a great table, but there aren't really any bad seats. A great, intimate venue.

I love this place. The shows here are always good. The bar can improve though. The wine selection is not great, and they don't serve champagne! We usually drink nearby and come just for the show.
