Small paradise in La Romana. |We stopped in La Romana on our way to the south west of Dominican Republic. Hotel Sol Azul was really a nice stop. The hotel has a nice pool and sitting area. Food and drinks are really good and reasonable. We had a family room which was enough for us. Fridge in the room. It seemed that the room was renovated so it was new. It was also clean. The breakfast was really good and the staff is friendly. The owner organized a tour for us to Isla Catalina for a really good price. Everyone is really friendly and they take care. So inside the hotel is really secure. We also walked to the near beach Catalena with some restaurant and bars. The area around at first seemed a bit unclear to us wether its save but it was ok to walk around. At day also the pool area is open to locals so you really get a feeling of how the locals spend their free time and party.

Hotel itself is well maintained and quite decent. If you're usually staying in hostels - you'll be fine. For a posh hotel or glamping stayers - you might not be satisfied. There is a fairly small local beach with restaurants located quite close from the hotel. Hotel itself is located in a quite poor area of the city with practically just one road leading to the city centre, so - quite a walk (mini buses or taxi might be an option for most). Owner was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very tasty, but will take good relaxing amount of time to serve and no choices given. We enjoyed it (more than a 5 star hotel at the end of our trip, where you're like in a beautiful cage and fed for slaughter) for 2 nights as an adventure and local area support. Will we return? Most likely not, as price is not adequate for what you get in our opinion. But glad we did it.

The place offers a decent value. Staff is very friendly and caring. Don't expect much though, the facility is a bit outdated, the WiFi is streaky, the rooms are a bit tight and not really welcoming. The area is a bit depressing with lots of trash in the streets, some lots forsaken. The nearby beach was a bit too crowded and loud for our liking. But you can't expect much more form this place given the price. Not a bad experience overall.

We stumbled across this hotel on booking.com and we definitely are glad that we did. The owner and his sister welcomed us in and made us feel right at home. They helped us get a good deal on a boat tour and provided transportation to and from the excursion. Getting to know them and their friends enhanced the experience greatly. We were originally only going to stay one night, but we had such a great experience we decided to do two. On the first night we walked to a beach restaurant called La Graca and I highly recommend it. Enrique you were a great host. We hope to come back and stay at your hotel again one day. ||Cheers!

I mean you really get what you pay, so no complaints. So , why I gave them five stars is for the friendliest and nicest staff . The place is surprisingly clean, the wifi is working very well compared with other places in DR. Close to the beach, close to the “bus station” . The area is quiet. The food is cheap and reasonable. Shoutout to David a personnel staff that went the extra mile and offered to ride his scooter and buy us Coke Zero from downtown. He didn’t want to get any tip saying that it was his pleasure. That’s unique in DR. Also I want to high five the owner Enrique, a really nice guy. At the end of our stay he gave us a ride to Caribe Tours to continue our trip. Overall a pleasant experience and a five star review.

Owner and staff were friendly and helpful. Food was very good that we ordered. Local flare since pool and restaurant opened to public during daytime hours. Rooms were clean. Quiet neighborhood at night time. Owner John was very helpful in giving directions and chatting. Staff directed my wife to a nearby hair salon which she loved. Close to La Caleta playa where you can relax and get some pescado frito.

Is a very nice small hotel near the beach area of la caleta. You can walk to the beach and have dinner in a different resturant every night. owner,Enrique and his staff do everything possible to make sure your visit is enjoyable. If you want to see the Dominican Republic in a safe location but close to everything this is a smart hotel to choose.

We stayed here one night and really struggle with the place. The area where its located feels unsafe. The room was terrible, the bathroom didn’t have a door, so no privacy at all. The shower didn’t have a holder, therefore you had to hold it with your hand while showering. Internet didn’t work in the room. The breakfast was ok for DR standards.
