This place is awesome, and I am no fan of the products served here so this is high praise. I was taken here, along with a group of about eight others, on a walking food tour of Lisbon with Duarte Ferreira Pinto of Eat Drink Walk (see my review of him, please) and he had warned me nicely that I probably would turn up my nose and that I was obligated to try at least a couple of things that are so classic to the Portuguese. Out come canned sardines and octopus and mussels and I am thinking "how can I pretend to eat something?" but my daughter and niece, both are also anti-this-food, and both are sampling and telling me that it isn't instant death. So I try the sardine with spicy tomato sauce and magically I don't die, either. In fact I have to say it wasn't even lower than a 4 out of 10 on my food taste scale. Not like I'm coming back to chow, but I give this place high praise for a few reasons: first, it's cute as hell. Local, homely, and oh so cozy. Second, the wine. You can't go wrong. Cheap, typical, great Lisbon options. Third, you can buy seafood to make all your family and friends that love this stuff, and it's cheap! It packs for home well, the evil USDA border Stasi won't confiscate it, and you can use it in an earthquake survival kit since it is supposed to last seven years. Just make sure to pack some saltines and crisp Portuguese white wine for yourself.
