No staff motivation. Dirty bathrooms. Tank sound producing fans and no good ventilation. This hostel is just not worth the stay. You are better off paying a little bit moore and have a better experience. Thers is no life and most travelers are only there for a transition one night before going to barreirinhas or taking the plane.Thr location in the heart of the historical center and the breakfest are good but appart from that, there isnt much good to say about this place, amd the beds are not confortable.

We arrived at about 8 however it was a Sunday and everything was closed except for a price delicious pizzaria. Breakfast was good, staff were nice, place was large yet comfy. Rooms weren't the cleanest and were pretty muggy. I even woke up with ants all over my clothes. But for one night it was just fine.

So, rather than write a full book on the shortcomings of this HI affiliated place I will bullet point.||||Staff sleep on the job on the only two guest sofas.||The washing facilities are straight out of 1910 era and your clothes dry over an open sewer.||||The guest kitchen (4 sqm) has 2 pots, one knife and a mini frying pan. This is for a hostal that holds 35 people!!!||||The gas only works on two hobs||||Their is hardly anyone on reception, ever. So you just chuck your key on the table and hope for the best. Security???||||The main gate to the hostal is never locked. Padlock is for show only.||||A huge night club on Fridays and Saturdays sits 3m over the road. Good luck sleeping then.||||We stayed 5 nights, not sure why, travel apathy I think. Never offered new sheets or towels.||||Staff rude and very lazy. Lights never on at night!||||Everything seemed to be done to save them money and time. ||||The guest is an inconvenience here.||||No Hi cards available.apparently..... I think they didn't want to give us a discount.||||Upstairs bunks a bit better.dry and brighter rooms.but at the back opp toilets is not the place if you want a double.||||There are other better places I'm sure, not listen in guide books just found corner.||||||Don't stay here, you won't feel welcome,won't sleep well and you will not be happy when you leave.||||I will be emailing HI to recommend they remove this hostal from their club as it offers gals assurities.

Stayed there 2 nights on a double room (80 reals per night) opposite bathrooms on main floor. Don't know about the dorms upstairs but this room was terrible. Very dark, poorly ventilated (fan was not strong enough), sewer odors, woke up multiple times because of mosquito bites (tons) and staff was very unfriendly and unwelcoming. Don't stay there. There are other options. It gave us a bad impression of São Luis, which is unfortunate.

We had a double room which smelled of toilet. Even after One day having the vent on the smell wouldnt go away. The vent would either just turn for decoration or blow you away. As we had a flight at night we stayed the last day in the common room. At 5pm we were very rudely kicked out and had to go downstairs because the common room is just for guests. Asking if we could still use the kitchen she just answered with a hand movement. In the guest kitchen was nothing really except pots, plates, and some cutlery.

Nice hostel! Very clean.||The rooms are compared and very big. You have a locker at your room.||Breakfast good: bread with eggs, cookies, cafe, the, ... ||Bathroom is cleaned.||Good location in the center city of Sao Luis.

I have to warn all people to check the day your making check in if you choose this hostel. We arrive tired and when at reception they hand us the forms to fill, we ask for the date for not having to take our cell phones from our packages. They inform us the date was one day before than it actually was. CONCLUSION:They charge us for an additional day... We offered proofs of the actual date we check in, but they hold their position. Sad

The breakfast is nice. The property is although falling apart. Washroom doors don't work, the rooms are full of ants. WiFi works okay. The location is good.
