We had a superb experience during out two-night stay at the Solar. The proprietress is absolutely charming. She could have not have been more pleasant or accommodating. Do note though that the only language which she and her daughter (who runs the attached tea room (O Bule - the teapot) speak is Portuguese. Non-Portuguese speakers would find the experience a bit of a challenge. As it is, I was not understood when I said that we would need a taxi for a 9:15 pick-up on our departure date. My basic Portuguese ("We are going to need a taxi at 9:15 this morning") was understood to mean that WE would be calling a taxi; it was not understood as a request to call one for us. But we just made it to the bus station in time to catch our bus.||||We booked the inn's one suite. The accommodation was quite large, with a big bed, a small single bed suitable for a child, a sitting area, and a large bathroom with a tub. The attached garden no doubt is lovely in warm weather.||||The proprietress learned that we were in Guarda for my birthday. When we returned from dinner the second night, she presented us with a tray containing roasted chestnuts, cakes, a small bottle of a local liqueur, and antique glasses in which to drink the beverage. The lady was very warm and charming.||||The late 17th century building has been very nicely renovated. The bed was very comfortable; the room was silent. The breakfast, which is served at the attached tea room, was a very nice version of the traditional Portuguese fare. It included a good variety of local preserves, and a delicious ricotta cheese. ||||This was one of the nicest hotels we've ever stayed at anywhere.
