It's a great place to say in Guarda. They are located adjacent to the cathedral and close to many attractions and commerce. The people that run the place is greater than great. Very friendly and welcoming. The breakfast is also a great mix of homemade and local items. Will stay again.

Absolutely stay at historic hotel right beside the cathedral. Though we did not speak Portuguese, the owner happily checked us in and helped explain the hotel through some Spanish and gestures! Breakfast was lovely

We stayed at Solar de Alarcao hotel for one night. It has a perfect location, just next to the cathedral and the city center. The free parking is in the front courtyard. The historic hotel has a pleasant old time atmosphere with antique decorations in the lobby. We had a double room- mid size with replicas of antique furniture. The bed was comfortable. We had a pleasant view of the back garden. The bathroom was small, and it had a basic toiletries. Everything was very clean. We visited on the cold October evening, but the room was pleasantly heated. The room was nicely decorated. According the number of the cars, the hotel must have been full, but the whole place was very quiet and tranquil. The delicious (homemade jams) breakfast was served in the next door tea room. The young host was very friendly and spoke good English. The only things we missed was some complementary tea or coffee we could have, when next door tea room was closed, and some small table in the room for writing or computer. We recommend this hotel for an atmosphere and the location.

We stayed one night on our way to the south of Portugal. Our welcome was warm, inviting and friendly. The room was large, clean and loved the history and atmosphere of the hotel. Free parking and great breakfast with homemade jams and pastries was a bonus.

We had a superb experience during out two-night stay at the Solar. The proprietress is absolutely charming. She could have not have been more pleasant or accommodating. Do note though that the only language which she and her daughter (who runs the attached tea room (O Bule - the teapot) speak is Portuguese. Non-Portuguese speakers would find the experience a bit of a challenge. As it is, I was not understood when I said that we would need a taxi for a 9:15 pick-up on our departure date. My basic Portuguese ("We are going to need a taxi at 9:15 this morning") was understood to mean that WE would be calling a taxi; it was not understood as a request to call one for us. But we just made it to the bus station in time to catch our bus.||||We booked the inn's one suite. The accommodation was quite large, with a big bed, a small single bed suitable for a child, a sitting area, and a large bathroom with a tub. The attached garden no doubt is lovely in warm weather.||||The proprietress learned that we were in Guarda for my birthday. When we returned from dinner the second night, she presented us with a tray containing roasted chestnuts, cakes, a small bottle of a local liqueur, and antique glasses in which to drink the beverage. The lady was very warm and charming.||||The late 17th century building has been very nicely renovated. The bed was very comfortable; the room was silent. The breakfast, which is served at the attached tea room, was a very nice version of the traditional Portuguese fare. It included a good variety of local preserves, and a delicious ricotta cheese. ||||This was one of the nicest hotels we've ever stayed at anywhere.

Positive: We stayed one night before continuing our drive through Spain. Rooms Nicely decorated, very clean. The hosts were very welcoming. Typical Portuguese breakfast.. Negative: Room could have a bit more space. (Note that there is not too much going on in Guarda).
