Solar dos Mouros, Lisbon, Portugal - Explore & Book

"You’re at the top of the hill in the shadow of the famous castle, but it’s the huge view over the city and river that takes your breath. It keeps you rooted to the spot, stretching up river past Lisbon’s wonderful suspension bridge that appears to hang in the air. 11 rooms are over 6 floors; the higher you climb the better the view. Scale the summit for the Deluxe Suite with its enormous terrace. The style throughout is bright and breezy, with picture windows, minimalist interiors and lots of modern paintings. Owner Luis Lemos is an artist, and his splashy oils adorn most walls. There's a bar-restaurant overlooking the Tagus and Lisbon rooftops, plus a breathtaking terrace for wining and dining in glorious Lisbon sunshine. Follow cobbled streets up to the castle or drop down the hill to the alleyways of Alfama, one of the capital’s most intriguing quarters. The Number 28 tram will save your legs on the way back up. Highs A fantastic location with long views over the rooftops and down the riverBig, light rooms with smart interiors. Some have private terraces, tooThe district of Alfama that clings to the hill beneath youGood local restaurants nearby The street is quiet at night Lows Prices shown are a guide only, and vary massively according to occupancy/date of stayThe Deluxe Suite has limited headroomYou’re close to the castle - high season is awash with tourists - and you're at the top of the hill: it’s a hard climb up, but there are trams and buses, and public lifts operate 8am-midnightNo kids under 13 (a high for some!)" - Tom Bell

Excellent hotel near the centre of Lisbon. The first impression was amazing. Very helpful staff who were keen to explain the main points of interest in Lisbon. The reception staff even marked all places on a map to take away. The welcome drink was great after the journey. A perfect location to experience Lisbon. Highly recommended hotel. Roof terrace restaurant was fantastic for ambience and views. We all agreed that the staff at this hotel gave the best customer service we have ever seen. Rio, Bruno and everyone were outstanding in helping us throughout our stay. Best ever hotel!

I’ve visited Lisbon 5 times and can’t make myself try a different hotel. Away from the crowds, but close enough to walk to the fort and cathedral. Alfama is a true neighborhood with winding streets and plenty of funky shops and cafes. Just bring good walking shoes for the hills. Rooms are nice and the views spectacular from the suites. I can only speak for the suites upstairs and the smaller rooms downstairs. The former are spacious with incredible views, perfect for a coupe. The latter are good and well appointed, but may be cramped for a long stay, especially for a couple. The terrace has one of Lisbon’s best views. Breakfast is good. Port and fresh fruit will be in your room daily. The hotel is small, so book well ahead.

This hotel was the first place we landed when we got to Portugal and it set the tone for an amazing trip. Rio and Francois at the desk were charming, friendly and helpful. Our room was spectacular! The entire wall was windows we could open for fresh air and spectacular views. The room was bright, fresh with great artwork. We had a decanter of port greeting us in the room. Each day when we came back after exploring they offered us complimentary drinks out on the deck - again with great views. Location is perfect - I always want a small hotel in a charming neighborhood instead of big, generic hotels. Our breakfast was included, which I was not expecting - and the food was delicious. I don't usually eat breakfast at hotels but we loved it!

We stayed in the suite with the panoramic view of Lisbon and the river, absolutely fantastic. Room was comfy and spacious, everything perfect. Lots of stairs if that is an issue. The location is quiet, even though it is close to the castle. Easy to walk down (and their is a public elevator) to the main squares and the cathedral etc, great transport options all around, restaurants close by, but you might want to book them. The staff are lovely, especially Francois, really helpful and friendly. It was a bit of a splurge for us, but we loved it here.

Solar dos Mouros was such a fun hotel to stay in! This was our first time in Lisbon but we knew we wanted to stay in the Alfama neighborhood and this location was GREAT! The staff went above and beyond to give recommendations for anything we were curious about. I would stay here again in a heart beat!

We had a lovely stay at Solar Dos Mouros when in Lisbon. The hotel is located in Alfama near the castle, close enough to walk to most sights in Lisbon but also far enough removed from the busier tourist areas (that have more of a Times Square vibe) that it’s quiet and feels very authentic. The viewsfrom the terrace and rooms are spectacular. The rooms are comfortable, modern and clean. The biggest selling point, aside from the beautiful view, is the service. Not only is Rio and Francois at the front desk attentive and kind, so is the waitstaff at the terrace. During our stay we felt well taken care of, like we had been long time guests of the hotel. We recommend Solar Dos Mouros highly for these reasons and would stay again our next time in Lisbon!

Can't say enough good words about our stay at Solar dos Mouros! From the moment we arrived, we were treated like royalty. The staff was wonderful in all respects, going above and beyond to make us feel welcome and special. The accommodations were equally impressive in terms of comfort, spaciousness and cleanliness. As mentioned in other reviews, the location is perfect for visit to Lisbon. Most highly recommend staying here. Thank you for making our visit so special!

Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff, It is situated in a very good location. The small patio terrace has a very good view over the river Tagus. The bedrooms are very adequate and clean. We would recommend it and use it again on a future trip to Lisbon.

Yelp
Absolutely stay here!!!! We travel a lot and the experience at Solar dos Mouros is near the top. Lots of freebies! We loved the free bottle of port wine and bowl of fresh fruit in the room. Also loved the free cocktails/beer/wine upon checkin on their lovely rooftop terrace. We arrived at sunset and it was absolutely a stunning view while we sipped our free drinks. The service was exceptional and the staff seemed eager to help in any way. The room was charming, with larger shuttered windows spanning the entire room and a perfect view of the port and river. All 11 rooms have about the same view, so you cant go wrong! Breakfast buffet (for surcharge) was lovely - they had a variety of pastries, meats, and cheeses along with crepes, scrambled eggs, warm sausages, mimosas (included!), fruit, and more! I think one real highlight, though, is their upstairs restaurant, called Seis. On Mondays and Thursdays they have a 5-course dinner with live fado. We went on the night we arrived (a Thursday) and this was the best food I had in all of Lisbon! It was €35/person, which felt steep at first. But the quality of the food was EXCEPTIONAL, and the fado experience included three performers (one singer, one fado guitar, one classical guitar) who played nine songs across the two hour dinner event. It was truly a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone!

Yelp
This place is great, casual, simple, and great views. Service is excellent. Good for families, small groups, couples and all sorts of people. The food is good. We've been there several times. Brunch is excellent, you vacan make it as light of heavy as you wish. Crepes, pastries, cereal, hot dishes, jamón, cheeses, fruit .... They have your flavor. A variety of hamburgers, pastas, and other dishes are available. We had dessert later at night and it was yummy. Worth stopping by.

Yelp
Nice views and the food was really good the Iberian Ham sandwich and tuna salad were wonderful. The daily tapas is a bit on the pricy side

Yelp
The view on the Balcony is spectacular. Such a cute date night dinner. The tuna steak was delicious. They had some good sushi options as well

Yelp
We had a bad experience at this place. The food I ordered was cold and not appetizing at all. The staff did not respond well to feedback. I do not recommend this place, and will not come back again.
