Came by with a friend on Saturday night, and we weren't disappointed. A great vibe and atmosphere, service was great and food and drinks as well. Very much enjoyed the night, and the only watch out is we were seated in back and noticed it was a bit smokey by the exposed kitchen.

Two of us enjoyed an absolutely delicious dinner last night at Sole. We shared the Greek salad, which was perfect and I had the delicious Amish half chicken with mashed potatoes and string beans that was cooked to perfection. My friend had the scallops which she asked for simplified and they arrived exactly the way she wanted it. Service was great and we will be back

Google
Outstanding. Everything we ordered was beautifully presented and truly delicious. The gnocchi with the pork chop - superb. The risotto with the scallops - great. Service is unobtrusive, kind and efficient (small quibble is that dishes are removed from the table too fast, as soon as you put your fork down...made us feel rushed).

Google
Was a fabulous meal. Staff was very attentive. We had a person with celiac dining with us and they were very careful to be sure her food was all safe for her to eat!

This was the first time I tried this restaurant and I was not disappointed at all. Everything was wonderful, delicious food, very warm environment and welcoming staff. Especially our waitress Melissa was very loving, caring and professional. I loved it!

Google
The food was great and hey have a broad selection. Ambience was perfect it’s a beautiful restaurant. The service was excellent everyone is really nice. I’m definitely going to be a regular.

Am a regular at sister restaurants Terra and Mediterraneo in Greenwich, and felt so at home at Sole. In fact I would say the layout and space is nicer, and their Amish chicken was slightly better too. Huge fan and will be back regularly

Had a great experience during lunchtime. The service was great, and I enjoyed my Food! Recommend!

Yelp
Absolutely fabulous food and environment. Very friendly staff. Highly recommended. Have been there for both brunch and dinner,

Yelp
Perfect date night restaurant. Drinks were strong but delicious. Food was very good. Friendly and attentive staff.

Karen C.

Yelp
Service was superb. At lunch I ordered a salad with grilled chicken. Unfortunately the chicken was very dry and difficult to chew. Parking is a challenge at lunch. Probably easier at dinner.

Lena B.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to eat on Elm!! GReat menu, delicious drinks and lovely atmosphere... low lighting, modern accents and nice bar inside. The outdoor patio is a nice spot to people watch too.

Anthony S.

Yelp
I was overly harsh earlier. The food at Sole is absolutely terrific. However, I'm here to warn you that ordering for pickup is a high risk proposition and just be really careful and ask for extra bags and check how securely the sauce lids are closed I have 3 separate family experiences to report that the food is not packed properly and has little chance of surviving the exit of the car. In none of these instances was I the driver. i will not order for pickup here. I will dine here One family car needed to be detailed to fix the smell inside, the mats had to be tossed... We will find out about car number 2 tomorrow Re the food, truly it is good and halibut off asphalt is not bad, texture wise and thankfully the bread soaked up the splattered sauce quite well. If you do want to eat light, then don't ask for extra bags or bring your own containers. I would recommend eating in over picking up

Yelp
It was crowded on a Saturday night. Food was good but pricey given the taste. We made the choice to sit inside and it probably the wrong choice as it was loud for what seemed unnecessary. My kids were confused as to whether it was trying to be a hip place or family place. To be fair, the halibut was well seasoned, but for just under 40 a pop I found that the dish in its entirety was just ok. The lobster in my hubs dish was generous. We wanted to really love this place- it was good but not great. Service was very good. Perhaps my expectations were a bit too high given that I've not found a great seafood place near us.

Aiden C.

Yelp
Service is terrible and takes long. And the food is in the middle I don't recommend this restaurant also it's crazy expensive I had one meal for 184 dollars.

Alexandra C.

Yelp
Can't say you're guaranteed an incredible meal here. You are though, a very nice patio, being surrounded by snoots, with lots of people-watching of walking by snoots. The inside is lovely too. Meals were all pretty good though.. 3.5...Maybe 4 star worthy. I do think it's the best food you can find in New Canaan (which actually isn't saying much because haven't had a really good meal in NC). Nice bread given with dip. Wish the eggplant meatballs were not fried. But we all enjoyed our pasta dishes and the butternut squash soup.

Denise L.

Yelp
Been going to Sole for 25 years. Always a delicious meal no matter what I order. Staff is friendly and very experienced. A favorite in NC.

Ilona K.

Yelp
We ordered takeout recently on a busy Saturday night and the order was ready right on time. I was in a butternut squash mood, so I had the butternut squash soup, of course. Yum! Would get it again. I also had the butternut squash ravioli - a classic dish that I can never skip if it's on the menu. Really tasty! I'm sure it would be even better dining in. My husband had the pappardelle pasta with sausage and he really enjoyed it. We look forward to trying Sole in person.

Yelp
Nothing special about this place. Been there a few times with multiple dishes. I go to restaurants for the food, not Nestlé for the scene, yet some people think this place is a local scene. . Service is subpar ( had to wait for wine, water and water even when at the bar. Food wise from the wood fired oven to a dinner special just nothing. Price is middle of the road for a restaurant in pricey New Canaan.

Yelp
Our first visit on a Friday night at 7pm with a group of six. To the front of a busy restaurant with tight table spacing and lots going on. Reservations are highly recommended, esp for weekend dinner. The rectangular dining room fronts and sides the open kitchen. Our round booth was cozy and off the floor, so foot traffic was light. Getting to the bathroom around the packed tables required logistics. Not enough room to allow two to pass each other. Our server, Ricardo, was stellar, and other than empty water glasses, we were well taken of, and courses were spaced appropriately. We ordered calamari and mussels for table share. The calamari was light and crispy - good stuff - and the mussels were fresh, small and perfect in their red curry sauce (and my dunked bread agreed). My entree, braised veal ravioli in a Marsala wine and wild mushroom sauce was terrific and the two diners really enjoyed their pastas - a ricotta cavatelli with sausage in a broccoli rabe pesto. The linguine with clam sauce was not as big a hit although there were abundant Manila clams. Kudos for having a current on-line food menu and an updated and well structured wine list. A tad steep on the corkage at $40 per bottle. Would definitely visit regularly if we lived in da hood!

Aurora C.

Yelp
We came here for a lunch date this afternoon, and were very impressed the service and the food. The yellow tail avocado ceviche was delicious as was the parmasean-crusted halibut. The outdoor seating is comfortable and relaxed and we had a wonderful time.

Lex D.

Yelp
Love it here. The food is so good! They just redid the restaurant, and the decor is great. The orange velvet booths are so cool & comfy!

Steve M.

Yelp
Used to be good before covid Post covid staff not as friendly Food (tuna T. Used to be great but drowned in vinegar) My wife's starter and our mains were tasteless We used to come here about every few months but following the last visit that's it for us

Eric T.

Yelp
Excellent food and excellent service every time, and I've eaten here many times. Love the crispy skin Branzino. Their bread and mild garlic hummus is also delicious with your drinks. Very good wines by the glass.

Bianca W.

Yelp
This was such a lovely visit! Ellis was amazing! Thank you so much for such great hospitality. Can't wait to return! I had the Parmesan crusted halibut. It was delicious! Perfectly cooked, still juicy, the cheese was a great bonus. I would have liked a little more flavor out of the sautéed spinach. The mussels with fava beans! Omg the bread, I was dipping away lol! Great experience. Enjoy!

Rich C.

Yelp
Another enjoyable evening & dinner at Sole! Short ribs, chicken Milano, waygu burger & pasta dishes! Food, service and atmosphere very good.

Ashley C.

Yelp
One of the few places with heaters and nice outdoor seating! Delicious food. The mussels were out of this world. Delicious cocktail. We got pasta and ravioli to share. The lobster pasta actually had generous amount of lobster. Very kind staff!

Cat T.

Yelp
My dad and I were looking for a brunch spot in New Canaan and ran into this gorgeous place. We were able to sit inside (really fun interior, loved the shape of the booths) and social distanced safely. Our waiter was super friendly (and super sweet) and was excellent. Major props being able to work with such kindness and service during the holidays in a pandemic! I was really impressed. The food was totally delicious. My father got the brunch special--bacon and lobster omelette. Cooked perfectly and very flavorful. I was impressed with how delicate the lobster was! However, my tuna bowl was so special. Each piece was seared to perfection (god knows we hate an overcooked piece of tuna) dressed in a pleasantly spiced sauce (I couldn't tell if it was mayonnaise based) that was creamy yet light as air. The rice and ancient grains were cooked perfectly as well, and not overdressed. The broccoli added a lovely crunch and color, dressed in a brightly acidic style. But the real winner on the plate was that hummus. Smooth textured, with flavors and a nice smokiness as an aftertaste.I could eat that hummus with a spoon all day long. I was so pleased with the umami-bomb in front of me, I ate it so slowly. We had coffee and dessert. My latte was well-made, something I've found difficult for some restaurants to really get right. My father and I split a tiramisu. The cream on top was delicious, but I found the sponge to be under-soaked, and not a lot of coffee flavor, therefore, was to be found. I did get a hit of booze from the cream, not sure what alcohol it was though. Overall, a wonderful place to eat. I hope to come back soon and eat more of that hummus!!!

Stephanie M.

Yelp
Delicious! The food at sole is super delicious... the burrata appetizer was so tasty and smooth - the flavors were an incredible mix of salty and smooth. The prosciutto pizza was similar with incredible contrasting flavors. Service was decent, atmosphere was decent - high end, but more fir families than dates.

Jeanne D.

Yelp
Menu offerings are solid. Nice decor and lively atmosphere. Sit at the bar if you can; Freddie is the best!

Al V.

Yelp
Decent food with good prices . We had barbabietola ( beet) with goat cheese , oven roasted chicken , osso buco & spaghetti bolognese . Chicken was cooked without being dry . The veal shank was super tender & properly flavored . What makes this place 5 starts is the server we got . Arsen went above the call of duty to make my little girls happy . He went to kitchen multiple times to get stuff off the menu for them . We will come back again .

Yelp
I dropping 3.5 stars. Came in for lunch with a girlfriend today. We ordered the same salad. However, her salad was brought to the table dazzling and I received the bogus left overs. Note, as a restaurant make sure to deliver the same portion and presentation to both patrons. -*** Kale Salad With Chicken

Foodie P.

Yelp
Enjoyed a lovely lunch today at another great Z group restaurant! We had several appetizers and our entres. Started with the white bean & vegetable soup. A delicious, hot & well seasoned with beans, veggies & chicken. The Penne "Bolognese" (a meat and vegetable ragu) was quite large for a lunch portion & equally delicious! The other appetizer was a plate of Red and gold beets with whipped goat cheese - and arugula! Dare I say this app could never be large enough for me; absolutely loved it! The Chicken Chopped Salad was the other entre....Tender chicken with romaine & tomatoes topped with a tasty vinaigrette. ALL THIS DELICIOUSNESS ON THE EXPRESS MENU; Appetizer & Entre $19.00!

Dylan K.

Yelp
Uhhhh the food here is exquisite. I went two weeks ago on a date with my girlfriend. I can't remember what we ordered for our mains but we loved them and we are going back to try more of the menu. I will say the standout star of the night was the eggplant meatball appetizer. Out of this world! Also the staff l and I mean every staff member was delightful. Our waiter was hilarious and attentive and made our experience even more special.

Gabriel G.

Yelp
Great little Italian spot on Elm Street in NC. Best for date night or meeting friends, not quite the right ambiance for young children. Strongly recommend the crudo to start and the pasta. The atmosphere is casual elegance or, perhaps, sprezzatura.

Ed L.

Yelp
My friends and I had dinner on Saturday evening at 5:30pm as Sole. I eat out at least 100 times a year but I must say in my more than 50 years this is THE LOUDEST place I've ever been in. The food was ok, although my penne was so al dente it was hard...not only that at 7:30pm when we were finishing up we were asked to leave because other diners were coming in. Really! So I suggest if you want to eat here best bring your AirPods or earplugs because of the volume, you'll need it and eat fast. Oh last thing, the service was excellent and waiters friendly. Lastly, I think the owners should contact a sound engineer because this problem can be corrected.

Lorgine M.

Yelp
We've been coming here for a few years now. Definitely a great spot for dinner dates or girls night out! Excellent bread & hummus combo whilst waiting for your orders to be served. Overall service is also very professional. A heads up though, the place is quite small, so it does get quite a bit loud.

Yelp
We are longtime clients of Sole and always loved it. However, recently, we have had terrible experiences. After one or two mediocre experiences, looked the other way. Now, it has been too many times to ignore. The gentleman at the door (possibly the manager?) is incredibly unpleasant -- especially for someone who works in hospitality. He makes you feel he is doing you a favor by granting you a table (even if reserved in advanced.) You are unable to order appetizers, sit and relax while you think about your main dishes. It's all at once or nothing. You feel rushed the entire time you are there. If you request another table, the answer is no. You finish your dinner and turns out that other table remained empty the whole time -- so no reason for not granting the change. The quality of the food and the portions have declined. The tuna tartar is half the portion it was, same with the carpaccio. The mussels were stale and fishy. Could not finish them. The curry sauce was tasteless -- no curry, all cream. These are dishes we have ordered in the past so could easily compare. I will say the waiters and waitresses are attentive and lovely. But they have follow the sitrict orders from management (and one apologized profusely for that.) Sad to say, we won't be returning to Sole anytime soon. They are so busy, they probably won't care. But still sharing this review, because as longtime New Canaan residents and clients of Sole, I felt compelled to share.

Barbara C.

Yelp
The manager is rude and unprofessional. Went for dinner at 8:30 and was told kitchen was closed by the manager. The hours stated they are open until10pm. Not a professional way to run a business. Poor management.

Sandy C.

Yelp
The best Italian restaurant in town! The food is great especially their seafood dishes ! The manager Felipe and his team are the best! I used to love Spiga but now sole is our favorite

L L.

Yelp
Everything was delicious (apps, entrees and cocktails too!), great service and really nice vibe.

Thomas T.

Yelp
The atmosphere is what sold it for me. Food is good, nothing rave about. Especially for the price. It's a great place to bring a date, sit down and have a great time. The ambient lighting and decor really bring this place together. I tried a little bit of everything and have to say the sausage pasta was my favorite there. Why not try it out!

Sophie M.

Yelp
I've been here a couple times, and both times everything was great- service, food, and ambience! Their menu is very typical of New Canaan (lots of meat/fish dishes, pizza, pasta, etc.), and they do it very well. I got the burger and I almost never eat burgers, but this one was definitely worth it. My dad got the Branzino and he loved it, and everyone enjoyed the free bread before the meal (they serve it with homemade hummus).

Molly L.

Yelp
I ate at Sole on Friday night with a party of four around 6:30. I would have to agree with many of the other Yelp reviews; Sole has good food but bad service. While Sole was relatively busy, the waiting staff was very slow to take our order, clear plates, refill water, and bring the desert menus. I was not anticipating or even hoping for a quick dinner, but our dinner was over 2.5 hours long due to the slow service. I would consider other restaurants, like Baldanza, in New Canaan before returning to Sole.

C. V.

Yelp
We sat outside and it was a little breezy and cool but our food was too. It was nice to sit outside with the pup but for the price, I had hoped the food would be WARM and flavorful. The service was good. Maybe next time we sit inside...

Marissa R.

Yelp
I usually do not have favorites but Sole is definitely a new favorite for sure! Amazing food, service and ambiance. The pizza and chicken Parm were amazing!!

J R C.

Yelp
Two restaurants here... one I would never go to, the other I hit once or twice a month. The restaurant in the front? Don't bother. Loud, service hit or miss, certain times of day you can wait forever for your meal, food? good of course, but why should you suffer? The other restaurant is a gem. Sit at the bar by the wood-burning oven. Watch the skin on chicken in the oven crisp up, the pizzas being made with precision and of course drinks being made with a generous pour. Get to know Freddy from Cuenca, who manage air traffic control so that no matter how busy they are you feel like you just walked into your private club. Order the appetizers, split the main courses and enjoy the wide range of dishes that vary with the season. Bottom line? Best restaurant in New Canaan if you sit at the bar.

Jack R.

Yelp
Poor waiter service, Asked to make a simple change to the menu and felt bullied to take the item delivered even though it was not what I asked for originally. I will not return and would advise anyone looking for a good meal in new Canaan ct to think twice about making a reservation at sole. Very uncomfortable experience

Peter V.

Yelp
Great New Canaan restaurant. Cozy and intimate with great Italian food. I had the calamari and the pene. Both fantastic. Good service, friendly and attentive.

Sienna M.

Yelp
Definitely a great spot for dinner dates or girls night out! Excellent bread & hummus combo. Overall service is very professional.

RM L.

Yelp
As a customer since they opened tonight I requested a early table (530 pm) to accommodate 3 adults and an infant in a stroller. The receptionist was flippant and non caring in any way shape or form to try and meet our needs. He couldnt of cared less. Im sure the owner ( no name needed) would be appalled and after great years of service would teach a lesson in customer service and care to loyal customers

Maura M.

Yelp
Sole is our "go to" spot! The food is consistently delicious and the service is impeccable and friendly! I've never seen a team of people work harder in a restaurant! Fredis at the bar is exceptional!

E R.

Yelp
In-person dining is fine but this review is about their delivery. We've done this a few times with varying degrees of satisfaction. Ordered several main dishes. With all of the services fees + tip, you'd expect a decent meal. Why is it then we have at least one dish that looks like it was made for a small domestic cat's appetite? When you consider that particular dish costs upwards of 40 dollars, you don't expect to see three bites of fish. The unfortunate person who ordered that meal was left hungry. It was an obscenely over-priced meal. Just leaves us feeling underwhelmed to say the least. Needless to say, this restaurant is off our list for take-out and deliveries. I don't mind paying for a good meal. But this isn't an example of you get what you paid for.

Danielle A.

Yelp
Good food but unfortunately had a bad experience with the service . Part of the overall dinning experience is seating accommodations and reservations . We had a reservation for 6 people at 8. The entire party was a little late arriving, but there was still no table for us at 8:20. The makeshift table was for four not six. Too tight for a restaurant where entrees are around $30 a plate . I expected better. Not sure if I would go back. Also the flowers and pain cocktail tasted like medicine which was another let down as I am a huge cocktail drinker.

Mandy B.

Yelp
Great location, easy to find with parking In rear. Comfy seating, with nice cozy options for couples. Prixe-fix lunch options all reasonable priced between $19-$23. Down side: slow service experienced during a slow lunch day, on a Monday around 2:30. Waiters were slow, hung out in the back, distracted, entrees (1 pasta bolognese, 1 grilled chicken salad) took way too long to come out - over 10 minutes (restaurant had 1 other table to worry about!). Desserts: tiramisu & créeme Brûlée both were fresh, delish, generous portions.

Chelsea H.

Yelp
We had a great lunch here. The NY Strip was cooked perfectly and so tasty. Cozy outdoor seating, good service. Definitely recommend

Julia G.

Yelp
came here with my fiancé last week and I was super hungry, ready to have an easy, tasty meal. The service was so slow, we weren't seated for nearly 40 minutes (with a reservation mind you). We live right in New Canaan and won't be coming back.
