"The Arizona Canal Long before the West was even wild, between the years 600 and 1450, an ancient group of peoples known as the Hohokam brought life to the Arizona desert with an intricate canal system. Parts of it are still in use today and,in addition toproviding water for crops and sustenance, they serve as recreational spots. In downtown Scottsdale , the Arizona Canal runs through two of the area’s most popular districts—Scottsdale Waterfront and SouthBridge. Shop for fashionfinds at Amy Inc. or sweet and sassy children’s threads from the Garage. Brunch at the Herb Box is a local favorite (red velvet pancakes!) and, around the corner, Culinary Dropout draws a trendy crowd with its gastro-pub fare and cocktail list. Art lovers should roam the Arizona Canal to take in the city’s free public installations, especially the Soleri Bridge and Plaza. A first from Italian architect Paolo Soleri, the structure marks annual solar events and evokes his fascination for planetary movement."
Beautiful bridge, I have stopped by on bike rides multiple times and it is a great entry to Old Town Socttsdale from the canal.

I've often seen this bridge driving by, so it was nice to finally take some time to explore it. There's accessible parking at South Bridge garage and/or on the nearby streets. From the garage, it took me about 10-15 minutes to get here. The sidewalk is paved, and the bridge itself is wide and concrete. Standing there, you get a view of the canal, and in the holidays- you get treated to some festive decor; there's even a Christmas tree on the bridge plaza area. At the side of the bridge, there is some wall artwork and Soleri bells, and there's tall metal columns that hold the bridge. Crossing it- it's only a 5 or so minute walk to then get to the Waterfront plaza.

Nothing here. Perhaps it's only worth a visit during the festival, otherwise you can't find anything even at night. Dark and quiet.

The area was so nicely decorated during Christmas. I'm not sure what it looks like when it's not the holidays! It's a beautiful place for pictures and to see all the shops. There are restaurants around the area as well

Plenty of little shops and restaurants to grab a bite.
Great setting to walk around and enjoy downtown Scottsdale.
The bridge itself was designed by Paolo Soleri and is a beauty to check out.

Beautiful area with trails on the waterfront. Highly recommend taking a stroll around this area before enjoying a delicious lunch at Barrio Queen followed by some shopping in Old Town Scottsdale.
