Amazing mountain. Diverse terrain and gorgeous views. Can't wait to hit it with fresh snow. The bowl runs you can lap from the summit express are fantastic and the bowl on the other side of the list, where there is no list after till the end, black bess/honeycomb etc is so gorgeous how you can go back there, not see a lift nor people and go chill out for a very very long run. To get back to the summit though if you take these runs take 3 lifts though....

Solitude Mountain Resort is hands down one of my favorite places to ski. Located in Big Cottonwood Canyon, it offers the perfect balance of amazing terrain, stunning views, and a more relaxed, uncrowded vibe compared to some of the other Utah resorts. From the moment I started driving up the canyon, the views are breathtaking. The winding road that leads up to the resort is surrounded by towering peaks and snowy landscapes, making the journey just as memorable as the destination. When you get to Solitude, you’ll be impressed by the mountain’s vastness. There are over 1,200 acres of skiable terrain, with runs that suit every level, from beginner to expert. I personally loved the Honeycomb Canyon area—it offers some of the best off-piste and expert terrain I’ve experienced, with steep runs and untouched powder that just makes it so much fun. The lift system is efficient, and while you might have to take a few lifts to get to the more challenging runs, the experience is worth it. One of the best things about Solitude is how uncrowded it feels, especially compared to the busier resorts. It’s not a party destination, which I appreciate because it gives you a more laid-back experience. You get to enjoy the mountain at your own pace, whether you’re carving down the slopes or just taking in the views from the top. The village at Solitude is cozy, with all the amenities you need: places to eat, shop, and relax after a long day on the slopes. The lodge and accommodations are fantastic, and if you’re lucky enough to ski in and out of your condo, it’s the perfect way to enjoy the mountain experience. While there’s not as much nightlife or après-ski action as you might find at other resorts, that’s part of the charm for me. It’s all about the skiing here, and I love that. Solitude is perfect for those who want to focus on skiing and enjoy a peaceful retreat, without the crowds or the hustle of bigger resorts. If you’re heading up to Solitude Mountain Resort, definitely take the time to enjoy the drive up the canyon. The views of the towering mountains and snow-covered scenery are worth the trip alone, and they set the tone for the incredible experience waiting at the resort. Highly recommended!

Solitude Mountain Resort is a hidden gem, a truly fabulous ski area that offers the best of both worlds: convenient proximity to downtown Salt Lake City, yet nestled deep within the majestic Wasatch Mountains, right alongside the legendary Alta and Snowbird. You get the feeling you're escaping to a true mountain sanctuary, without the long, arduous drive. The base elevation is at about 8,000 feet and the peak hits 10,500 feet. What immediately struck me was the exceptional quality of the staff and operations. Every interaction, from the ticket window to the lift lines, was met with genuine warmth and efficiency. It's clear they take pride in creating a seamless and enjoyable experience. The lifts were running smoothly, and the mountain was meticulously maintained. Solitude boasts a refreshing, laid-back locals vibe that sets it apart from the sprawling, often overwhelming mega-resorts. It's a place where you feel instantly welcomed, where the focus is on the skiing itself, not the crowds or the hype. This isn't to say it's lacking in amenities—far from it! You'll find a robust network of lifts, a diverse array of trails catering to all skill levels, and a surprisingly substantial vertical drop (2,494 feet). The absence of long lift lines was a revelation. We were able to maximize our time on the slopes, exploring everything from the gentle, meandering runs perfect for warming up, to the thrilling, steep pitches that challenged even the most seasoned skiers. The views were simply stunning, panoramic vistas of snow-capped peaks and pristine wilderness. The authentic mountain atmosphere is another highlight. The village, while intimate, is well-equipped with everything you need, from cozy cafes to well-stocked rental shops. It's a place where you can relax and unwind after a day on the slopes, enjoying the peaceful ambiance and the company of fellow skiers. If you're looking for a high-quality skiing experience with a genuine mountain feel, minus the crowds and pretension, Solitude is the perfect destination. It's a place where you can truly connect with the beauty of the Wasatch and enjoy the simple pleasure of skiing. It’s a place that will have you returning year after year.

Went snowshoeing at Solitude Nordic. It was amazing! They have multiple trails for snowshoeing, you can rent your gear right at the Nordic Center. The rental gear is very affordable. They have maps you can can take with you so you can select your trail. The staff was polite and helpful. There is ample parking. It is a bit of a drive up the canyon, but totally worth it.

Google
Everything about this place was a blast except the lift lines. The lifts were doing great but we went on a Wednesday afternoon and waited 45 min Everytime we got to the base just to get on a lift. Rentals were good quality. Food was resort pricing 💰 but delicious. For those looking to ride anytime before the new year I would suggest staying on mid mountain because the lines at the base just won't cut it.

Great hill 🌄, fun tree stashes 🌲, immaculate vibes ✨. There are two different size parks depending what you want to work on which makes it a great place for all skill levels to work on jumps and tricks. There are some fun steep runs from the top, and when the powder hits some of my favorite tree runs especially as you go skiers right ;).Truly has everything! ⛷️🏔️

We were married in June and it was spectacular. Our ceremony was off moonbeam lift and they went above and beyond to make it perfect. Last minute rugs were ordered to cover dirt on the aisle which made everything look even more stunning. Reception at last chance went so smooth and everything was gorgeous inside. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The lawn was setup so fun w fire pits and picnic tables. We had icecream outside and danced on the deck with gorgeous weather. Our wedding coordinator communicated with us promptly, professionally and remembered all the little details. The sales rep we worked with initially was also involved and awesome to work with throughout the process, always kind to help anyway she could. Our coordinator communicated with the vendors to ensure they were where they needed to be and answered all their questions. Lots of moving pieces and shuttle cars were able to transport everyone to where they needed to be. The staff working the event were super pleasant and all the guests said they were wonderful and patient. One server kept checking on me since I was feeling nauseous and brought me bread, ginger ale and ice cold cloths for my wrists which helped! Staff truly went out of their way to make sure the event was special. We had an after party at thirsty squirrel, also top notch. I could go on about all the details and how great they made everything.. we are really grateful.. We loved every second. We also had our welcome party one night prior at St. Bernard’s which exceeded our expectations. Amazing customer service. Helped us setup great music inside and outside. Helped us cut some desserts we brought and package them up at the end of the day. Helped us package up leftovers for guests arriving late. We appreciated everything so so much! Front desk staff also so fun and helpful throughout the resort. Everyone helping over the weekend deserves lots of praise!! and raises :)

Google
Fresh powder, great back country, trees with waist deep snow. Double blacks to make you pucker! Our family enjoyed the entire mountain from greens to double blacks. Food and drinks were convenient. Pricing is fair.

Yelp
This resort had plenty of space and even a small hill for me and my cousin to learn how to get started

Cindy T.

Yelp
This mountain didn't quite make the cut for me and my snowboard crew. It felt more like skier territory, those flat terrains were a real buzzkill. Picture this: you're carving your way down with a solid rhythm, only to hit a stretch where you're forced to awkwardly unstrap and push yourself along like a sad little penguin. Not ideal. That said, the resort itself does deserve some points. It's well-equipped with all the essentials, from gear rentals to a spacious lodge that's perfect for recharging between runs. Whether you're grabbing a bite, warming up, or just people-watching (aka scoping out the pros), it's got you covered. But let's be real, when you're out here, the terrain makes or breaks the experience, and for us snowboarders, it just didn't hit the mark. I'm sure skiers have a blast, but for riders like us? Eh, we'll be looking elsewhere for our next adventure.

Yelp
This is my first ski resort review... I'm glad it's SOLITUDE. This is definitely my home resort. Everything about solitude is above par! Service, friendliness, value, excellent terrain, and the best of all short lift lines ...compared to other resorts in Utah.Getting to Solitude by UTA Skibus is most economical way (park at the 6200 Park&Ride) If you have Ikon Pass skibus rides are free! This is why it's the Locals Resort.

Rich B.

Yelp
First time to Solitude. Been skiing two years. Probably my favorite place to ski so far. Excellent variety of runs, we skied over 5 hours and never got bored. Good variety of moguls (not for me), in the trees, terrain parks. Friendly staff. Never a wait at the lifts. Wasn't too busy on the actual runs. Lots of blues that can challenge you or allow you to just rip it and have some fun. We arrived at 7am (one hour before the lifts opened) on Friday morning and were the first car in the lot. Just a great day of skiing and will definitely return.

Frank W.

Yelp
Having not done snow skiing in more than two decades, it was a delight to get back on the slopes. I took a ski lesson and Cory did an outstanding job. He coached me on technique and helped ensure I had a safe and fun time. I can't wait to go again!

Kris G.

Yelp
I am a complete and utter novice when it comes to snowboarding. I have only been about 5-10 times in my lifetime and haven't been in the last 5 years I think. That being said I had a pretty good day. I was awful at the snowboarding and ate snow more times than I can remember, but the overall experience was pretty easy. Getting here from Salt Lake City was pretty straight forward. Get to Midvale Fort Union Station (we took an Uber, but you can park&Ride or take the train) get the UTA Ski buss 972 (Up) bus toward Brighton. The bus is free for Ikon & season pass holders and $5 for the rest of us. (This was true as of January 2023 so please check before you go). Solitude is one of the last stops on the way up and the bus drops you at the Moonbeam base area. Here you can get you passes or lift tickets, rent equipment or access a locker. All of this was pretty straight forward and there was a good amount of staff around to ask questions if needed. The folks at the rental were pretty nice and got me situated quickly. The "bunny slope" aka Easy Street was super close via the Link lift. Easy and efficient. My friend who is way better at snowboarding and has been before really enjoyed herself as did my other two friends who were better than me. It was easy to grab a snack and a drink from the pub and they even have little Adirondack chairs outside you can grab a drink and watch everyone. Getting back to midvale fort union station was a little more challenging due to the sheer number of people trying to leave. We did try to leave at peak time (~4pm) but the bus was packed. Not only do you have to contend with the people leaving Solitude , but this is not the first stop heading down so the bus was crazy full/standing room only before it even got to Solitude. It took us about 1 hour 40 to get on a bus and get back to the station. Plan accordingly.

Yelp
Out of all the mountains we visited in Utah, by far I enjoyed Solitude the most. The terrain is very beginner and intermediate friendly, with wide portions groomed out. Also the difficulty level of the terrain is accurate for greens and blues, which was nice. They had ample ADA parking available to accommodate my car and overall the snow felt softer here as well, less icy and crunchy than other resorts. I can safely say I had the best time at this location and we even visited this location on a whim too! So overall it was a good surprise, would definitely come back to this resort again when traveling to Utah

Andrew L.

Yelp
Very good day on the snow. Some said could have been better. But it was up to par. I'm not sure what par means. But I've heard about it before and it's good. Big W

Kevin T.

Yelp
Out of all three resorts we visited in the area, Solitude felt the best because the terrain was more within our skill level. There is a new parking reservation required, but if you go after 1 pm, the parking is free for all. The staff is friendly, and my partner was able to use her Ikon for a discount on a sweater in store. Ikon pass users have this location as unlimited, but Brighton and Snowbird are limited to 5 day visits. The park features are very fun here, but they didn't have any jumps when we were there.

Yelp
Monday 2/13 9am On a Monday, Solitude resort is minimally busy. We stopped by an also minimally busy Alpine coffee at 8am (got super crowded by 845am) and didn't touch my coffee for how short the drive was. The car next to us was having a cookout on a Coleman. The minor trek to the parking kiosks was icy. There was a parking attendant handing out discounts for cars with 2 or more people. This brought the fare down from $20 to $10. The lift ticket was $120 for military (the $111 is probably without tax) but I probably could have gotten away with a beginner's lift ticket ($89). The rentals folks were awesome. They explained everything to me and I was in and out in a flash. The green run to the right is probably a bunny. I loved it. And the guys who set the chairs for us gave us all sorts of positive affirmations. It was really great. The green run to the left is a green with some areas that felt blue. That was my first run before I realized my boots were too loose. I was having a hell of a time turning my right ski. I would be down to come back on a Monday!

Rheeee R.

Yelp
Very bad experience. Lots of rocks and ice with no signs or anything to warn you. Parking is terrible. Ski school was very bad. My kids told me it ruined their whole vacation because the instructor was really mean. They didn't learn anything and didn't want to return. The ski patrol were rude and so were all the other staff. Kids were not allowed to sled on any part of the mountain! I've skiid all over the USA, Europe and Middle East. This was by far my worst experience.

Alan J.

Yelp
Solitude is a treasure. Love coming here on my ikon pass. Their food is exquisite, all of it. This is a foodie friendly mountain! Got about 2 feet of fresh pow while there!

Dallas A.

Yelp
Awesome ski resort with some great runs and beautiful scenery. I was lucky enough to go on a great powder day, and it snowed most of the day as well, so both the labeled runs and tree-lined areas were fantastic to ski and ice-free. Lines for chairlifts are relatively short--our group never waited more than a couple of minutes to get on, and most of the time it was less than a 30-second wait. One downside for Solitude (and maybe the canyon in general) is transportation. The bus system recently announced that busses will run only half the time (every 30 minutes instead of every 15), so every bus is jam-packed with standing room only--if you're trying to get on at the park-and-ride at the base of the canyon, you'll most likely be out of luck getting on. Parking isn't much better; it's about $25/day and is incredibly frustrating getting out of at the end of the day. It took our group 3 hours to get home in SLC from the time we got on the bus at Solitude.

Nick T.

Yelp
Just got back from four days at Solitude and it was amazing. Solitude has a laid back vibe with a compact footprint. My wife and I took a lesson from instructor Michael Teeter and he is AMAZING! He was able to give me valuable instruction at the intermediate level while simultaneously providing feedback to my wife at an advanced level. I highly recommend you seek him out as an instructor, he's a gem. While the food options are limited compared to a mega resort, we had no issues wasting at the Honeycomb Grill multiple times, in addition to drinks at the Thirsty Squirrel, and lunch on mountain. Everyone who works at the resort is friendly and knowledgeable.

Aya R.

Yelp
A really gorgeous mountain with slopes of all levels. You can also take the lift up and ski right over to Brighton. Pretty little village at the bottom. The widest variety of food options I've ever seen. Beautiful view from the lodge. I had a nice time here and would love to return on next season's Utah trip.

Kevin S.

Yelp
Not a huge mountain and unfortunately our conditions were icy. Did not groom a large of runs and please do not trust the trail over to Brighton to lead you safely to groomed path; we got caught in un groomed, mogulled, narrow black diamond nightmare.

Maria M.

Yelp
This resort asks for feedback when you visit but responds defensively to any feedback that is not deemed positive. Solitude allows unlimited visits with a full Ikon pass. Their bunny slopes are nice but their greens are more like blues. They also won't let you ride the lift back down if you are hurt or nervous. Love unlimited visits, though. Their food is mostly like gas station food including cocoa, chicken strips and French fries.

Angelo A.

Yelp
Since moving to Honolulu, my visits to Utah (to see my children and grandchildren) have become few and far between. However, recently, my buddies and I had to alter our yearly ski/snowboard trip to Japan (thank you COVID) and opted for Utah instead. When I used to live in Salt Lake City, Solitude was my second choice of ski hills - just after Brighton. Our first stop on this trip was, in fact, Brighton, but days 4 and 5 were spent at Solitude and my buddies were very happy about that. The are a number of wide and relatively steep runs at Solitude that are comfortable for both the novice and more experienced skiers. There are more diamonds and doubles available than I needed, but my friends have more of a death wish than I do, so they were tickled. Pricing is reasonable by US standards. However, if you have the Ikon pass, the cost is VERY reasonable, especially if you're local. The parking is not as spacious as Brighton. Since they have a fee to park, it's best to carpool. With at least 4 people, the fee is $5 per vehicle. I really like this mountain. It's a great spot that has everything for the novice to the expert. I will definately return.

Havilah Vashti U.

Yelp
Solitude Resort was such a treat to explore whole coating from California. One of my favorite trails were the blue trail from the top. My fiancé and I also loved the cinnamon sugar waffles dipped in the chocolate syrup. Can't wait to come back!

John L.

Yelp
Snow was just ok but that's not their fault. Minimal snow fall in Jan/Feb. Great place for families. Lot of wide open blue runs all over. They have some steaper blacks and double blacks high up but not much coverage when we were there so didn't try. Wasn't crowded at all. Even on President's Day weekend. I don't think we ever waited in line for 2 days straight. Last Chance Lodge has a limited but decent breakfast menu. Pretty affordable too. We liked the breakfast quesadilla best. Only $9 and could feed 2-3 people. Huevos Rancheros were ok, $11. Stop by anytime at the MoonBeam base area for fresh hot waffles. Delicious!! The Roundhouse has burgers and/or hotdogs being grilled outdoors. The Indian food was not bad. Food choices in the village a little bit limited. We liked Stone Haus and Creamery. Like I said, great place for famlilies. You can see the whole mountain in 1-2 days so if you need something new hop on over to Brighton which is just down the street.

Zane E.

Yelp
Solitude: Don't waste your time with park jumps well most of your resort is grass and rocks. your more likely to get upset customers from scratched up new skies then positive reviews for having one jump. So maybe move that snow around and open more runs. Also hiring a DJ and handing out commemorative trash and cold cookies isn't a good use of your money. Spend the money on grooming and more snow. Just copy Alta on the parking situation. Your parking lot is barely less crammed then Brighton and if you could maybe spend that marketing budget on a parking garage and free parking more people would ski here. Thanks for being open. But look away from the spreadsheets and go skiing

Monica G.

Yelp
Very nice mountain resort, if they open up the back mountain it's gonna be even better. You can also go to Brighton next door pretty easily which closes at 9pm to make an epic day riding around!

Len S.

Yelp
What a beautiful place to stay. If your a skier I can seee you have a great stay here. The slopes are on the grounds the resort is a little city located at the top of the mountain. We came here in October hoping to see our first snowfall. We were not disappointed. We woke up to snow that lasted all day. The resort offered underground indoor parking and elevators from the garage to your floor. The condo's was heated by a gas fireplace so you always had a fire to view. The location is great about 12 miles up the mountain from salt lake and if the pass is open about 20 mins from Park City. Since we came in the off season. Season starts November 22nd. A lot of the restaurants and store were not open. We enjoy the ones that were and found plenty of things to do. Looking for a getaway I suggest this location.

Jamie M.

Yelp
Too many reckless skiers on the intermediate runs. The card readers are all too low so you have to stoop down to have it read your pass. I skied 19 different scary as last year, and I will not come back to Solitaire. Ski patrol and guest services were nice. If you like double diamond runs and really gnarly stuff, it is killer.

Yelp
A Disastrous Stay at Solitude Mountain Resort - Beware! We recently had the misfortune of staying at Solitude Mountain Resort, and our experience was so abysmal that I feel compelled to share the details to save others from enduring a similar nightmare. The utter lack of concern for guests demonstrated by the management and their dismissive attitude toward our complaints is alarming. Although Solitude Mountain is utterly gorgeous, the room we stayed in was not maintained and the management company only exacerbated things. The issues we encountered were not just inconveniences but outright failures on the part of Solitude Mountain Resort and its management company (which we understand is Alterra Mountain Company). Maintenance Debacles: The master bedroom bathroom door was practically stuck, requiring an unnecessary display of strength just to open it. Phones in the unit were non-functional, a known problem conveniently left unaddressed. A broken window treatment marred our supposedly picturesque mountain view. The top dishwasher rack was not just a minor inconvenience but a constant hassle. Propane Outage Fiasco: The resort experienced a complete propane outage, affecting the entire area (which, according to an employee, was not the first time). Imagine having no hot water and witnessing a complete failure on the part of the management company. Communication Breakdown: The front desk phones were not just dysfunctional; they were utterly useless. Attempts to contact them were met with silence, forcing us to repeatedly go downstairs to address our concerns. Subpar Toiletries (toilet paper, tissue, and paper towels): The resort's idea of hospitality includes providing UBER CHEAP toiletries - a clear insult considering the prices charged for a stay. Safety Concerns Ignored: A NINE INCH WALL OF ICE at the exit was not only hazardous but had clearly been there for a while. Our complaint fell on deaf ears, and driving over it (in the dark one early morning) resulted in a potential vehicle alignment issue. Lackadaisical Housekeeping: Upon arrival, there was no liquid hand soap in both bathrooms. This basic oversight, combined with the unresponsive phones, forced us to personally visit the front desk to address the issue. Even after bringing it to their attention, no corrective action was taken. It is disheartening that after expressing our concerns, the only response we received was a pitiful one-night "future" credit, a clear indication of the management's indifference to guest satisfaction. Note: When we checked out, the super nice guy at the front desk asked how was our stay to which I said I don't want to bore him with what went on but it was not what we expected. On our way home we received a call from the "house loading manager" (Erika) who wanted to know the details only at which I shared them. She seemed to empathize with us and went on to say she feels a two night credit towards our stay is in line but later called back to say, "I was able to talk to our team here and we authorized a one-night credit towards a future stay" In the end I implore anyone considering a stay at Solitude Mountain Resort to think twice. This establishment's careless attitude towards its guests is a blatant disregard for customer service. Save yourself the frustration, disappointment, and potential safety hazards - there are undoubtedly better options available.

Dani S.

Yelp
Love this resort!! One of the best family resorts in Utah. Had the fortunate of riding this mountain recently and absolutely loved it. It's not huge but the terrain is really fun! It was definitely not crowded and it's mostly families and locals. Very chill vibe, no drama. There's only a few chair lifts but the views are pretty nice. Trials are well groomed and service some really fun black and blue runs. Had a great time, definitely coming back!

Serena N.

Yelp
The resort is beautiful however... We brought our daughter skiing for the first time and we're very disappointed in the experience. The staff really is not equipped to teach young kids who are first timers. Understandably kids are scared and nervous trying something for the first time but we have taken our daughter ice skating and instructors are able to approach a child of that a age a certain way and engage them to get excited to try it. There was none of that this time. From check in, to putting on equipment to getting in the snow everyone was very blasé about helping her to learn and get excited. The equipment rental area was the worst, the people had zero interest in a kid trying for the first time. Very disappointing experience for our first time. The instructor gave up trying to engage and teach her after 30 minutes (we paid for 2 hours! And a lift ticket). We actually saw the instructor skiing down the mountain after leaving our kid. So we paid for the instructor to go skiing and not teach our daughter? Her response to us was 'oh I can't get her out of this mindset.' Ummm if you are a school isn't it your job to engage and figure out how to make it fun for a first timer who is 4 years old? Not equipped to teach kids correctly.

Zachary D.

Yelp
Unfortunately what was once a hidden gem is now packed to the gills. If you like long lines for so so terrain this is your place.

Ellis K.

Yelp
So being an Ikon pass holder, Solitude is the home mountain for me. I have unlimited days here and I love it here. I know the mountain really good and they really try to make sure everything is good and skiers and snowboarders are safe. They do an awesome job, I've already skied here, around 10 times?? It's beautiful! My only quarrel is how busy it can get with Ikon pass holders. Other than that, this place is awesome. It has runs for every skill level and they are really good. Staff is always friendly with my experiences!

Michae A.

Yelp
For beginners: best bunny slopes you could ask for they have a lift and a long wide slope for you to practice on For intermediate & advance: they have a variety of green blue's and black's I've posted a map for y'all to see. I'd recommend staying at eagle springs west you can ski in and out easily and like we did we took advantage of the hot tub mid day At night: the library bar is a must if your a fan of wine or a good cocktail

Pascal P.

Yelp
I know that Alta and Snowbird get all of the attention in this area but I had a blast skiing at Solitude. The terrain is a lot of fun with good variety of difficulties. Honeycomb Canyon in particular is really cool and feel like a pretty unique area. Even on a Sunday in January with good snow lift lines were very reasonable and I don't think I ever had to wait more than a minute. A lot of Ikon pass holders blow off the Big Cottonwood Canyon ski areas and only go to Alta/Snowbird but Solitude is absolutely worth a visit if you have time.

Rebekah D.

Yelp
I really like solitude because it has a little bit of everything like there are some good doubles and everything too!! Absolutely recommend!!

Bill S.

Yelp
This is a decent resort however, the ski/snowboard school is poorly organized/structured. I have purchased an IKON pass because we have family near other resorts and it is accommodating for this circumstance. Solitude has a lesson schedule with one of the lessons on a blackout date which REQUIRES to you either buy an additional pass for that one day OR spend an additional couple hundred dollars to "upgrade" your pass. They are NOT WILLING to either move the lesson to another date or give just the students a pass for the one day. You would think that with the amount of money you are already spending, they would be willing to work something out, but no, they want to squeeze every dollar they can out of you! CORPORATE GREED AT ITS BEST....... SMH

Ryan K.

Yelp
Um...Not to be a YELP snob here, but some of dear yelp friends don't' know what they are talking about. There is no reason that Solitude deserves anything less than 3-stars. Let me get this out there. Solitude is a ski resort, so your reviews should be based heavily on the SKIING experience. As far as that goes, solitude is a very fun and challenging ski resort. It also happens to be the best ski resort in Big Cottonwood Canyon in my opinion. Let me tell you why it is a great place to go skiing. One, there is a nice mix of groomers and steep off-piste terrain that is fun for pretty much any and all skiers that are intermediate skiers and above. I guess one downside is that there isn't a ton of beginner terrain. It is definitely more friendly to beginners than other resorts I have skied, but it isn't a mecca for learning. I really enjoy the groomers off of Eagle Express and Moonbeam. They are fun! If you want some better steep stuff, try the powderhorn or Summit chairlifts. In my opinion Powderhorn is the best terrain at the resort. If they could improve some things, it would be to upgrade the Powderhorn lift to a high speed quad. Also, it should be required that all ski resorts serve Indian food on mountain. It is a must that you stop at midmountain and get Indian. Yes it is overpriced, but what ski resort food isn't. Overall, Solitude is a great option.

Yelp
TLDR - ideal for advanced skiers, limiting for beginner-intermediates. I got a free lift ticket to Solitude for speaking at a conference. If it weren't for that, we would've picked a spot that was more beginner friendly. Only 10% of the runs are beginner (their numbers, not mine). We took a Lyft up and were surprised how desolate it was. We met our group at Power Mountain, which caters to those staying at the resort, but it was almost a ghost town. In fact, we walked over to Moonbeam when we were ready to catch the bus back into SLC. The group had a small room reserved with tables, refreshments and food. The gentleman overseeing the room was awesome; he was always hustling to ensure everything was well stocked and the food was quite good. The snow at Solitude was nice, but I found even the easier runs challenging. I found some of the trail markings a little confusing at the beginning of Little Dollie and Same Street and the maps to be on the smaller side even when close up. Maybe it's different on the more advanced runs, but there also weren't people available to provide direction. Overall, Solitude is a refreshingly un-crowded economical option if you're a more advanced skier. If you're a beginner, I think you'll prefer something that caters a bit more to beginners. 3.5 stars.

Yelp
I have skied all over the east and west and Solitude might not be the biggest resorts out there but has some damm good skiing! lots and lots of great terrain very unique! never crowded and I always have a wonderful time skiing here! And I love the name!

Yelp
Silver lake- absolutely beautiful. There is a trail around the entire lake. So peaceful. Some people were doing yoga on one of the dicks. People fishing. If you hike up the mountain about an hour, you will come across a beautiful lake (twin lakes). Took my bird on the hike. He loved it!

Yelp
Mountain great transit parking and getting to the mountain makes it not worth it multiple hours to wait for parking not acceptable.

Yelp
Amazing powder. Lots of runs. I really liked that I could get here from downtown via a train and bus and didn't need to rent a car.

Yelp
I came here for a day thanks to my Ikon pass, and it was a pretty great resort. There are a lot of blue trails which was great, and higher up the mountain has black. The day I came wasn't too great snow-wise, so there was a lot of ice especially towards the end of the day. I came on a weekday and there weren't very many people, and I barely had to wait in line for the lifts. The slopes were fun and the runs were wide, and my friend and I both had a good time here. The resort is smaller and doesn't require much traversing from one chair lift to another, and best of all there weren't very many flat parts so I didn't get stuck on my snowboard (what a rarity!). Parking isn't free, but there's a free bus from a park and ride just at the mouth of the canyon.

Yelp
The food is surprisingly decent and the staff is friendly. Wouldn't recommend for beginners if I'm being honest but intermediate and advanced will have lots of fun

Yelp
I've never ever been here before and i wanted to make sure: Is this where I check in to my Vacasa rental?

Yelp
Don't get an ikon pass and expect to come here for free. $20 a day parking. Gouging people like that is really tough. I'm on a road trip and wanted to get a few days in at each resort. It's very disappointing and disheartening, especially since I save every penny, even sleep in my car the whole time in Utah, to be able to afford a long trip from Los Angeles. I would offer more affordable parking to ikon people or just stay off ikon if it's inconvenient for the resort. Suggestions, $10 day pass, $20 for a 1wk of m-f, lower season pass option for weekday parking. Keep your weekend policies premium if you have to. This is really heartbreaking and definitely alters my plans. Brighton and Snowbird are better options if that's possible

Yelp
Solitude is poorly designed . Runs are steep and some of the cat trails end at cliffs and sometimes you are very stuck for longer than you planned. It's harder to navigate than Snowbird. No mountain hosts. Blue runs turn into black runs without visible signage and you can get really stuck in the many, many black runs. Brighton is much more fun and way friendlier.

Yelp
Great Ski resort, came here to kick off the new year and was rewarded with some fresh powder. It has snowed 10" the night before and there was some fresh powder here and there. Its not a huge mountain, but there is enough Black, Blue and Green runs for every level of experience to enjoy. I like that the gates to the lifts are activated by an RFID chip in your pass so you just pull up to the gate and it lets you into the lift, instead of a person manually scanning a barcode on your ticket, it makes the lines move much quicker. I especially like the runs off the Eagle Express lift. They are not too steep, but just steep enough for me to get enough speed without feeling like I'm going to die if i eat it. Also there are many different ways down back to the lift, so the powder doesn't get totally trashed. We were fortunate enough to catch it right after a snowstorm had come thru Cottonwood canyon. It was one of my friends first time in powder and he loved it! Fresh pow makes any snowboard trip great!

Yelp
when i was planning this SLC ski trip with my relatives, my thought were that i was going to have an amazing time in Snowbird and just okay at Solitude. but it was the other way around. i did not enjoy snowbird that much but i had the best ski experience in Solitude. came here on a Saturday during the president's day weekend. it was packed but not too bad. parking was $5 if you carpooled with at least 3 people. the rental line was pretty bad. a few relatives of mine waited for almost 1 hour to get everything done. we are socal residents, so we are spoiled with groomed runs. solitude offers the perfect balance of fresh powder and groomed runs. it was a lot more enjoyable for our group. i am an ikon pass holder, so i tracked my entire day in Solitude, it gave me 14 lifts and 32 trails total. 17.5 miles overall distance. it was amazing. weather was great. snowing pretty hard but barely any wind. vision was pretty damn good too unlike snowbird the day before. trails are wide open. the most memorable trails were corner chute (toughest that we did) and dynamite (blue run from summit to apex) but overall i enjoyed runs around powderhorn lift the most. they have variety of blue and black trails that are fun to ride through. would i come back? this is a no brainer. i definitely would.

Yelp
After spending most of November in and out of the hospital my 9 year old son, who is battling leukemia, was feeling pretty good on December 4th, and his Doctor gave him clearance to go skiing. So, we headed up to Solitude. It was super crowded, and we thought about turning around and heading back down the canyon. However, when you have a kid with cancer that is feeling good you learn to try everything to take advantage of those moments. So, we continued up to the lot, and when we pulled in two very nice young men greeted us. I explained the situation to them, and asked if they could help us out. They directed us to their manager BIll, and told us they were sure he would be able to figure something out. I pulled forward and explained the situation to Bill, and he laughed in my face. I was shocked. I figured maybe he didn't hear me and so I re-explained that my kid has cancer and it is tough for him to walk long distances, and because he is immunocompromised he can't ride the bus. Bill laughed in my face a second time, and explained to me that everyone else parked in the lot had gotten up on time, and I should learn to do the same. Then he told me I should drop my kids off, and pick them up later so: "At least they could go skiing." He told us to pull around the drop off lane and leave, then laughed again as he walked away shaking his head, and saying something to his employees about us. I understand it is a busy day, and you may not be able to make an accommodation for a sick kid, but to be jerk about it is crazy. I reached out to Solitude right after it happened and they did not respond.

Yelp
I have nothing but positive things to say about Solitude Mountain Resort and its staff. There was minimal stress when it came to planning with this venue. My event coordinator, Kate, was active during the entire planning process that lasted about a year. She thought of things being an issue before it even came to my mind and had a plan for it as well. I personally didn't get to eat much, but multiple guests were raving about the food at the reception. One guest said, 'The salmon was cooked to perfection.' They are just so flexible, easy to work with and want to make your wedding stress free and memorable. They really did make our wedding a day to remember positively.

Yelp
Limited summer options, but basic eatery's and such were open. Below average food at above average prices, but hey it's a resort right. Mountain biking looked fun and could be interesting if there were more than only one lift open. The scenery was spectacular!
