This is a rather small museum exhibiting some interesting artifacts on the history, culture and lifestyle in the Solomon Islands. Can probably spend half an hour or so for a quick understanding of the background of Solomon Islands

The National Museum of the Solomon Islands is a captivating treasure trove that offers deep insights into the rich cultural and historical tapestry of this mesmerizing archipelago. As you step inside, you're greeted by an extensive collection of traditional artifacts, each with a story to tell about the diverse communities that have thrived on these islands for millennia. The museum's exhibits on the intricate art of shell money and the profound spiritual significance of war canoes are particularly enlightening. An intriguing aspect of the Solomon Islands' history that I learned about during my visit was the 'blackbirding' era. This dark period in the late 19th century involved the coercive recruitment of islanders, often through deceit or force, to work in plantations overseas, leaving a lasting impact on the region's demographic and cultural landscape. The National Museum not only preserves these stories but also celebrates the resilient spirit and rich cultural heritage of the Solomon Islands, making it a must-visit for anyone seeking to understand this unique corner of the world.
