For chocolate lovers and those who love to savor unforgettable flavors, Soma is a great place to savor chocolates of all styles and flavors, as well as a wonderful ice cream menu. The Distillery is quite spacious and offers many options, especially for gift-giving. The store has a large service area with tables and chairs for enjoying the products, a shop area with a wide selection of products, and you can see how local products are produced. Regarding accessibility, the store has a spring-loaded door, wheelchair-friendly tables, a spacious dining area with few inaccessible areas, and a smooth floor. Unfortunately, the store lacks Braille signs and menus, but the staff is always ready to help. For those who wish to visit, the 504 street car stops in front of the Distillery, and if you're driving, the Distillery has private parking for customers.

Absolutely one of the must-visit spots at the Distillery District :) The chocolate treats there are so delicious and very creative. SOMA is probably the first ones in Toronto to continuously offer spicy Mayan chocolate (in a chocolate shot or in a hot chocolate drink!). In the summer, I also order the affogato (espresso with gelato ice cream!) All the chocolate truffles are amazing here; you seriously can't go wrong with any one of them. My all-time faves are: the one with pop rocks, the whiskey one, the balsamic vingear one, and the one with the cherry inside (sorry, I don't rmb the actual names lol). Recent visit, I tried the new jasmine one, and the thai tea one, which were both very fragrant and tasty! I also highly recommend the roasted corn tumbled in chocolate, the almond toffee clusters, and the old school dark chocolate for that rough, grainy texture ;) My mouth is already drooling thinking about them. What are you waiting for? Grab a basket and start exploring!

The chocolates are very nice, but I wish I had been told that the box needed to be upright. I purchased a $70 box for Valentine’s Day, and when my fiancé opened it, the chocolates were everywhere because the box had been placed sideways in my bag. A simple heads-up at checkout would’ve been nice.

One of my favorite chocolate makers, it’s a must go. This time I bought: travel bar gianduja, roasted sesame Gianduja, the dried fruit bar, the birch, and individual bars, dried orange chocolate and the maya drink, all amazing. The staff member was wonderful he took the time to explain the different flavors and pointed out all his favs. Great experience all round ❤️ thank you!

Nice chocolatier; in particular I like the Maya hot chocolate drink in one single shot which is a cup of thick chocolate with a spicy tinge! Staff are quite friendly and there is also a nice range of products to choose from so definitely a good place for souvenirs if you are a tourist

Tried the Maya hot chocolate and it wasn’t my favourite. The flavour was a bit of a weird mix and didn’t taste as good as expected. Probably won’t get this one again, but might try their other drinks next time.

It’s a heaven for chocolate lovers! I tried a few ice creams and all of them were really yummy. I got the Chico line which was so rich and creamy and it had a perfect vibe and atmosphere of distillery to enjoy with. Will definitely come back.

What a great chocolatier experience! My boyfriend loves chocolate and I wanted to buy him a treat so I came here. They have SO MANY OPTIONS. From fresh drinks to in house made treats to their signature chocolate products, I didn't know where to start! I noticed a lot of people around me came in to buy Soma chocolates as gifts for loved ones, including myself, so it was really nice that the staff was super knowledgeable about their products and gave great recommendations. I loved the packaging on everything and the area is very spacious although I wish they had more seating. I ended up purchasing a 7 piece fresh truffle box, bag of mint "drinking chocolate", and a cup of their signature Maya hot chocolate. As someone who doesn't think of chocolate or spicy stuff as their first choices, I was a little nervous to taste the heat having never tried anything like this but I really enjoyed it! Definitely a must try, ask for fresh semi whipped cream on top as well! The price was pretty reasonable as well, I paid around $6 for a good size. You can taste the quality in the ingredients they use, it may be a little on the pricier end but I think it's absolutely worth the money especially if it's your first time here or if you're not familiar artisan chocolate makers. I'd like to return to try their gelato when the season comes around. Soma is definitely one of those chocolate shops you need to try at least once if you live in or near the GTA.

They have great selection of handmade chocolate truffles, chocolate bars, clusters, hot chocolate and other combinations of chocolate and espresso hot and cold beverages. They take orders and also have pre-packaged truffles and chocolate bars. I'm a big fan of their affogato and Bicerin. They get very busy during Christmas market and there's huge lineups to get in. But, the service is fast and the vibe is really good.

We came here around 3pm on Friday. It's a nice open store with gelato and hand made candy. We ordered eight handcrafted truffles of different flavors, affogato and bichiron (Italian coffee drink) Everything was great. The gelato in the affogato - delicious paired well with the espresso. The Italian coffee drink great and the chocolates- stunning. Our server was friendly and helpful. Will definitely come again for the affogato!

Cute & cozy chocolate shop in the distillery district. Super authentic and speciality chocolate/drinks that are delicious. Friendly staff & fast service! There are also lots of different items you can take home too. I did think the serving size was small but it was a Holiday special so that may be why.

This place is a hidden gem in the distillery district. When walking in, it was eye opening to see the chocolate lab as well as the gelato lab. While we admired all of the goodies, I noticed a sour cherry flavored sorbet (very unique where we are from); one of the employees noticed, and asked if we wanted a sample. It was INCREDIBLE: perfect blend of sweet and tart. My husband then noticed the passion fruit, which was equally as delicious! Both were perfectly made. We would highly recommend this for anyone stopping by the distillery district!

Soma Chocolate Maker deserves every bit of praise it receives. I recently had the pleasure of trying their mocha, prepared with their Maya spicy hot chocolate mix and oat milk, and it was nothing short of incredible. The blend of flavors was exquisite, making it one of the best mochas I've ever had the pleasure of tasting. The atmosphere at Soma is equally impressive, exuding a cool and inviting vibe that adds to the overall experience. Without a doubt, I highly recommend checking out Soma Chocolate Maker for a truly memorable indulgence in the heart of Toronto.

Cute place.Relaxed ambiance. I read that their specialty is chocolate and that their hot chocolate was pretty good. But it was too hot the day we came in so we just ordered Gelato. It did not disappoint. I ordered chocolate and pistachio. And my hubby ordered coconut sorbet. Service was okay.

We came here for the gelato. It did not disappoint. The pistachio gelato is exceptional, it taste's literally like you are eating pistachio. Best pistachio ice cream I've ever had. The dark chocolate ice cream is very good as well, so creamy and rich and tastes like premium chocolate. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Service is great and first class. There are tables and chairs for you to sit down after strolling around in the distillery district.

So happy we stopped in for chocolate treats to take home. There was a great variety of items to purchase. Ended up trying a cup of spicy sipping chocolate, marzipan, lemon pistachio toffee, chocolate dipped orange peel, cookies and a few unique chocolate bars. Definitely recommend their quality and delicious products!

Officially ice cream szn y'all!! I'm always looking forward to SOMA's gelato & sorbet flavours! I had their chocolate last year and I instantly fell in love I recently tried their Peach sorbet & Thai Coconut sorbet. These 2 might just be at my top ice cream flavours now I haven't been able to find good coconut ice cream and SOMA's hitsss!!! Y'all gotta get on it We also got the Salted Caramel & a type of vanilla flavour with hints of honey in it Let me know what other flavours you've tried at SOMA! ‍

One of the best chocolates I've ever had in my entire life! I had the blood orange marzipan and it was out of this world delicious! Will go back to try their other flavours. They have a chocolate lab where their craft all these delectable concoctions. It is a site not to be missed!

A beautiful chocolate shop. Their hot chocolate is especially delicious on a cold day. The employees are helpful and polite. It is Canada after all . You can even watch them make chocolate in a huge machine.

Was touring the distillery district when I can across Soma. I already had it bookmarked from reading about great places to get hot chocolate in Toronto. This shop is all about chocolate and offered several forms of chocolate treats. I bought a few chocolate gifts to take back home. Soma was clean and bright on the inside. I ordered an affogato for the first time with a shot of intense hot chocolate instead of expresso. It was a wonderful treat. The thick concentrated syrupy hot chocolate slowly melted the vanilla gelato as I savored each taste. I could eat one of these every day for the winter season. Soma is a chocolate lovers paradise!

While in the Distillery Historic district, we walked past SOMA and we had to go in....The beautiful display of chocolates was just too tempting ! The large viewing windows showcase the chocolate makers busy making truffles, traditional Italian cookies and the shops signature drinking chocolate. It's also ranked as one of Toronto's best ice cream producers! If you have a sweet tooth, this is the place to go...they have three locations in Toronto...hope you can find one nearby....it's worth it....

Came here on a Thursday afternoon and we were the only customers in the space which made the entire ordering process relatively quick. I had seen comments online recommending the concentrated shot drink and I was excited to try! They had a nice selection of chocolate bars and I got one of the dark chocolate ones as a gift. The price was pretty solid and it made for a nice present. They have seating outside ( none inside unfortunately ) and since the day was pretty nice when we went, we were fine grabbing a table in the space, but I imagine it can get quite cold outside otherwise. The drink itself was super rich and honestly a little difficult to finish, but as a fan of dark chocolate personally, it was a fun experience overall. I'd recommend trying it in shot form just for the experience, but I'm sure it would taste much more palpable getting it in a drink form with milk or something else to help dilute it. I would love to come back if I'm ever in the area to either buy more chocolate or to try some of their other drinks. ​Thanks, Soma!

Admittedly, I only come here when going to the Christmas market BUT that's because this is one of our top choices for a hot chocolate when browsing. The hot chocolate at Soma is delicious and you can taste the real chocolate in it. The space is also great to browse for chocolate treats and gifts while you wait in line, something that's always welcome when looking for last minute stocking stuffers.

This is one of a kind, specialised chocolate, ice cream, and coffee place. They excel in all three. Their chocolate laboratory is visible behind the glass walls. A small seating area is in the main hall. You can mix and match their gelato and sorbet flavours. And each has its incredible taste that heroes the main ingredient. Their coffees and chocolate drinks are also great. It is a self service place. The Distillery District location is charming. All in all, a definite 'must visit' place at least every few weeks!

I always love this place. To my knowledge this is the first Soma location. I'm glad they have more locations now but this remains a favourite when I'm in the Distillery District. The christmas market was open which was why I came to the Distillery & they had a lineup for getting into the store. But I was okay with that because they were being responsible about the capacity limits. The lineup went reasonably fast too. Inside the service was quick & friendly. I bought a bunch of their cookies (with chocolate inside of course). Spent a good chunk of money but their cookies are soooo good! And I don't indulge in them very often. So totally worth it. I have come here many times before over the years & as long as their food is good I will keep coming back!

I normally only make it out to the Distillery District in winter time for the Christmas Market but in a rare turn of events I was here in summer. It seems like most of the reviews I see on here about steaming mugs of hot chocolate but Soma has ice cream and gelato in the summer! They have a limited number of flavours of gelato and sorbet but they had some unique ones like a Fior di Latte and a Thai Coconut. I really wanted something refreshing so I went with raspberry sorbet in a cup. The cup is a compostable cup and the spoon is also 100% compostable! The raspberry was sweet and tart - a perfect refresher. We actually didn't realize that you can order up to 2 flavours per order but I bet the chocolate would have went amazing with the raspberry. Yum!

We were thrilled to discover this shop and even more impressed by their exceptional chocolate offerings. It was a shame that we didn't get to see the chocolate-making process, but the variety of chocolates and hot chocolate more than made up for it. We picked up a few items, including bars of chocolate and some hot chocolate. We tried the Old School bar, which was one of the most delicious chocolates we've ever tasted. It is so rich and decadent that just three-quarters of a piece is enough to fill you up. The hot chocolate was also fantastic. It was smooth and silky, and it had the perfect creaminess to it. We were pleasantly surprised by how delicious it was. Although the price of the chocolate may seem a bit high, it's easy to understand why. The service is exceptional, and the products are of high quality and taste. Overall, Soma Chocolatemaker is an excellent place to visit for any chocolate lover. The products are mouth-watering, and the pricing is worth it. We would highly recommend Soma Chocolatemaker to anyone looking for high-quality chocolates or a fantastic cup of hot chocolate. Soma is a fantastic place for truffles and chocolate...and a keystone piece of the Distillery District. We love the chocolate and the Spicy Mayan hot chocolate..but because of Covid we just haven't visited the area for a while. But with things getting back to normal and Valentine's Day around the corner picking up a love box made sense. A few truffles and some interesting bars will last a few weeks. We almost went overboard and picked up too many more truffles because the amazing flavours they offered are so unique. Soma is fantastic and glad they made it through Covid-19... everyone should visit and support them.

I ended up buying Soma chocolates as souvenirs from my trip to Toronto and they did not disappoint. There are lots of unique flavors there, like mango chili and black currant, and all are packaged nicely. You can also pick and choose different items and have them gift wrapped for $2 extra. I really like the Old School milk chocolate. It's not overly sweet, has a nice crumbly texture, and is made with only 3 ingredients! The chocolates are a bit pricey, but you can tell they are good quality made with attention to flavor. My friends that received them as gifts were all really happy. I would definitely go back to try the hot chocolate or gelato!

Located right in the Distillery District, Soma is a must visit!! We checked it out during the Christmas market and bought lots of goodies to give as gifts. Obviously bought some chocolate for ourselves too!! I was intrigued by some of their flavors, like their fruity flavors because I'm a fan of mixing chocolate and fruit! The Mango Chili Bar had a nice kick of chili to complement the sweet, creamy, and tart mango. The Raspberry Bar was one I was most looking forward to. It did not disappoint, with its bold and sour flavor of raspberry. If you're a lover of raspberries, you can't leave without this! They have microbatches of some of the specialized chocolates. We tried two of the 2018 released chocolates: the "Abstract Chocolate Science with roasted cacao nibs", which was a test of blending different chocolates for "peak deliciousness". The cacao nibs added a perfect balance of texture and flavor as we scarfed it down (just kidding, we savored each of the chocolates as we knew we weren't coming back for a while). We also had the "Dark Fire, with spices & chili" which was one of my favorites. The spices and chili actually packed a good punch, cooled down by the chocolate itself. My personal favorite was surprisingly one of their "Plain and Simple Bars": the Strawberry Black Pepper Bar. I loved the combination of strawberry with the chocolate, also with the slight hint of the pepper. We actually came back the very next day, before we left town to get more chocolate and to try the drinking chocolate - Maya. Took it to go and wish that we got one each, instead of sharing. Don't make my mistake!! Get your own and you will not regret it! They do have an online store, which I will be looking at often! These specialty chocolates make for great gifts and treats for yourself.

Very rustic and artisanal atmosphere, very fitting for a chocolatey adventure! Very open space, with displays of their products, some seating area and a viewing area of their chocolatey magic making process! Tried the Spicy Maya hot chocolate, which was pretty unique. Dark chocolate, cinnamon, chili peppers, ginger, Madagascar vanilla, orange Peel and other spices make for an indulgent chocolate experience. Very rich, each sip had some spiciness which blended quite well for a full body taste. The spice was the type that lingers a bit instead of front up on your tongue, and not too overpowering. Overall a good treat for the chocolate and sweet lovers!

Why didn't I buy more?!?! I knew I should have listened to my inner fattie and bought more and I am sorely regretting it. Yes. Soma is pricey, but it is well worth the splurge if you're a chocolate lover. I had the key lime pie truffle and Vietnamese coffee truffle and bought a mango lassi bar to go. They infuse fruit into their chocolates soooo well. That key lime pie truffle was amazing and the mango lassi bar was a gift for my bf. He inhaled that bar yesterday after saying that he was gonna savor it. It tasted like pure mango and that's how much fruit they infuse into the bar. I guess I'll have to pay shipping to get my chocolate fix.

Tried the Bicerine ( hot chocolate and espresso) and my friend tried the hot chocolate shot and they were great but yeah kinda gives a sugar rush. Costed us $7 which is reasonable. Quick service and Patio makes this place a good spot to hang out. They have gelato as well and lot of chocolate options to buy.

Oh the good old hot chocolate on a cold Dec evening. Had the MAYA hot chocolate w/ milk and it's different alright. Has a nice kick to it, tickles the throat a little from the spiciness(probably from the ginger) of the drink. Wouldn't recommend having it as a shot for sure.

Four words: spicy Mayan hot chocolate shot... Get one. Down it. This is one of our favorite places to visit in the Distillery District. We almost always stop by. On a cold winter day, the spicy shots really hit the spot. Yes they have other stuff too. It's a little pricy, but the chocolates are great here.

Summary: nice and a bit expensive gelato place My favourite favour: lychee I was in the distillery district. My friend and I wanted gelato. We saw this place that was filled with people. This gelato here is a bit expensive and portion was smaller. However, it tastes pretty good. We order Vietnam coffee, lychee and blueberry. I love the lychee favours. Then we walked around, we found there are other gelato places in distillery district and this place is on the expensive side; however, this place also got more favours. Recommend if you want to try some special favours.

Had the hot chocolate, perfect for a cold and chilly day. The cocoa they use is really strong which is a plus. I found it a bit too dark as I prefer milk chocolate more but this was a nice treat to have when in the area!!!

The distillery district is a definite stop when in the city ! The place is so beautiful and it's filled with different shops, foods and breweries. One stop you should make it soma ! If you love chocolate this place is for you ! I was so overwhelmed with what to choose and the sweet smell of their chocolate in the air. I heard the gelato was the best so we grabbed the gelato and wow. This chocolate is so rich and sweet and just so good. We got the hazel but and the chocolate gelato and of course the chocolate was my favorite.

nom nom nom! Chocolate gelato on a hot day totally hit the spot! They fill the cup all the way above the top, so great portions. My savior was also FREE water!! When you're eating all that rich gelato, you need something to help cleanse your palette after. WTG! So nice and friendly here as well. Lots of places inside to sit and outside as well. Definitely worth a visit. Don't get fooled by the place next to the restrooms selling ice cream. You really want this place.

Soma Chocolatemaker serves one of the best spicy hot chocolate with frothed milk in the city. The liquid chocolate is in a commercial machine in serving temperature with a rotating paddle to ensure chocolate consistency. Yup, this is the best chocoholic drink you can get on Valentine's day for $5.01 (tax included)! Yum!

In the summer, I absolutely loved their Blueberry basil sorbet and Pistachio gelato. Both so refreshing and natural tasting! In the winter though, I was quite impressed with their Classic Hot Chocolate. For $5.09+tax you get a medium sized cup of real melted dark chocolate into your choice of water OR milk (regular, lactose-free, soy, or oat) at no extra cost. It had the slight richness and bitterness of the dark chocolate so you know it's not artificially sweetened.

I ordered the raspberry sorbet. The ladies on the other side of the counter do let you taste the ice creams if you're indecisive on flavour. Its a nice stop. Can see the kitchen where they make their ice creams but could not see anyone working. One unisex washroom is located at the opposite end of counters.

If you love chocolate, head to Soma. It's the best chocolate in Toronto. This is Soma's second location in the city and the first in the Distillery District. It's a large space that doubles as an actual production plant making the chocolate and then selling it in the store front. You can buy packaged chocolate of all kinds (including some unique flavors) or individual chocolates from truffles to turtles. With countless restaurants nearby, it's the perfect snack or dessert after dinner.

Who doesn't like chocolate?? A nice mug of hot cocoa to warm you right up after being outside in the cold. It's on the expensive side ($5.75) but worth it as a treat every now and then. Don't forget to check out all the different goodies you can purchase to take home with you.

4.5 stars. We are chocolate and hot chocolate fanatics, so there was no way we were visiting Toronto without a trip to their local chocolatier. There was a TON of candy when we visited here. It was a few weeks before Easter, so there were plenty of Easter and spring-themed chocolates. I mean rows and rows of different chocolate selections! Very impressive. We ended up getting some chocolate bars to go, plus their hot chocolate. It was good, but not thick and rich enough with chocolate to quite earn the five-star rating. That being said, we loved this place! I only wish there were more seating options. We did get to sit right next to a cool machine making chocolate. That was a definite highlight of our time at Soma. If you love chocolate, do yourself a favor and go here! You won't be disappointed.

My friend got the bicern, which is hot chocolate and espresso shot topped with cream. The cream is cold on top and the layers of flavour is just perfect. The picture does not do justice because you can't tell the many layers of flavor from the paper cup :( I had the traditional hot chocolate with soy milk. You would think that soy milk ruins the indulgence as it's not 2% tea milk, but it's just as decadent as ever! We came during Toronto Christmas market time on a weekday night, so it was extremely crowded. Line moves quick!

This place is worth a detour for the gelato alone in summer, add the amazing mayan hot chocolate shot I would say drop by in the winter as well. Distillery kinda dies down in the off season especially when they don't have an event going on here. I would say this store and the sake store are worth the trek here. They are a bit pricey but this is Toronto for you. If you want to take something special for a chocolate aficionado can't go wrong here. 4 Stars all the way.

Delicious chocolate shop in the distillery district. They have a variety of chocolates on shelves that you can buy, both for yourself or for others (they have nice gift packages and baskets). You can also get coffee at this location. I haven't tried it but coffee is always nice! Most of the chocolates here are dark chocolates, ranging from 70% dark chocolate to more. They are probably some of the best chocolates I've ever had. I've heard this chocolate is award winning and I can certainly taste the award winning flavours. It's pricey, but if you want to spend the money you'll get incredible value out of it.

I love the way it smells in here! We stopped in to show a visiting family member this awesome chocolate shop while we wandered the distillery district. All of the treats are beautifully and carefully packaged, awesome for a gift or a treat! We ordered iced coffees to go and I grabbed a small dark chocolate bar with a honey almond nougat filling. The coffees were perfect, I liked how you added the simple syrup yourself and the counter as I prefer my iced coffee a little less sweet than most. The little chocolate treat was amazeballs, I wished I grabbed another one as soon as I took a bite. This place is a great stop to check out in the Distillery District!!

Whenever I visit the Christmas market, this is the ONE thing I have to get before I leave because it's that good. Soma's chocolatemaker specializes in chocolate (obviously). They have an assortment of treats and bars in all sorts of flavours and sizes from gifts to just little snacks for yourself. Interior is a open space with some seats available and an amazing view of their kitchen behind large glass windows so you can see all the machinery and where all the stuff happens. There is only one thing that I get during the holidays. It's their Spicy Maya hot chocolate. Every time I mention to my friends, they're like "what? Spicy hot chocolate? That sounds weird", but please just try! It's sooo good. The mixture of chili and actual melted chocolate really warms you up down to the throat in a super unique way. I would even say it's more effective than regular hot chocolate. You have the option to get it mixed with water or regular milk with the choice of choosing an alternative such as oat milk or soy etc. Milk definitely makes it creamier so I recommend that. Sure, the drinks are pricier than what you can make it at home for the size (~$5), but it's worth it. Trust me. I think next time, when I go visit them again this holiday season, I need to try their actual chocolate to see the hype for those as well. They look super cute. Idk why I'm not doing this sooner tbh.

After hearing great things about this place, I ventured to the Distillery District and had a cup of Soma's classic hot chocolate. Yes, I could taste that they used real chocolate... but to my disappointment, it wasn't that rich, nor tasty. In fact, the grittiness of still having blended pieces of chocolate in the drink was a turn-off for me. The pieces were just small enough that you couldn't chew them or even bite them really, but not small enough that they go undetectable in your mouth. For a better rating, I feel the drink could've been creamier or richer in cocoa.
