Sombat's Fresh Thai Cuisine

My husband and I couldn’t stop saying how good it was! All of the vegetables tasted fresh and he said the eggplant in his was the best he’s had. All in all some of the best Thai we’ve had. Great service, we loved Sombat and the gentleman there helping at the counter. Great food, everything was perfect and the dessert is a must. I was even impressed it came with a nicer bag to carry it with since we got carry out. It had dine in when we went. There was plenty of parking and it’s toward the road around back like the signs say.

The staff was really friendly and nice. Pad thai was my favourite, pineapple rice(curry source) was for my husband. Crazy portion….. 2 main dishes with 1 starter(spring rolls) seemed more than enough for 5 people honestly. We’re still full..!

They are takeout only for now, from 4-8p. Ordered green papaya salad which was refreshingly delicious, Kang Penang with chicken was also yummy, and pad Thai with shrimp. All were very good and their medium has nice authentic heat. They even let you select Thai style hot. I’ve been to Thailand and Thai hot level is very hot so your are forewarned. When I asked for medium, he told me their medium is quite hot but that’s what we wanted. It was perfect for us. The portions are very generous and we could barely make a dent. Good value for your money and recommend this lovely business. Order! Parking is behind the plaza where Sombat is and you have to turn down the side street and enter the lot. They have a sign placard saying, Sombat parking, to help.

Most likely the best Thai food I’ve had even living in the DC area. I thought the price was a bit high but it turns out this was the most authentic and wonderful Thai food I’ve had and it’s worth every price. If you like spicy then be ready for the Thai hot bc eating it cold won’t be enough to stop the burn. Everyone should eat here to get a piece of Thailand!

I was really hungry and we had just landed. This was close to the airport and looked like it had a decent menu. We got here and there was a bit of a wait. There was a table that got free but because there were only TWO people serving it took a really long time to sit!! I mean seriously! There was a poor couple that had been waiting way before us and someone took their order 15 minutes into OUR wait! We finally did get seated after a painful wait. We ordered the pad kee mow with beef. Hubby wanted it hot but I'd read reviews and decided on medium. It was perfect. The noodle's were really good. We also got the pineapple fried rice which was delicious. It definitely was spiced with curry powder, something I've never had at a thai restaurant before! After eating there was another wait for the check and a box! I don like that they encourage you to bring your own boxes though. This would have been 4 stars but took one off because of the service!

This is one of two best Thai restaurants in Hilo. I’m a dedicated Thai Food affectionate…and 8 year local resident. Just trust me…This place and Tina’s Garden Cafe are the only two places I go to at this point. Give it a whirl!!!

Great Thai food place, taste was unique, fresh, scratch made food. Great staff, eco-friendly, the grow some of their hebs. Place it's a little bit small, but no big deal. Restrooms are out side of the restaurant, not to close tho.

Ordered mild chicken pad Thai—pleasantly tangy and sweet tamarind flavor with peanut, egg, carrot, green onion, bean sprouts, and a ton of noodles! Nice big portions and good flavor makes it worth the price tag. I think I’ll try medium spicy next time, and perhaps ask for extra sauce!

We ordered fried calamari, stir fry mixed vegetable, Chiang Mai fried rice, Panang cury and manggo sticky rice. ALL of them were DELICIOUS! EXCELLENT taste and very good portion too! Definitely must try the Panang cury! The only complain we have, our stomach has finite capacity. So, we have to bring some of them home as doggy bags. The service was prompt and she was very tentative! Gave her good tip at the end. She deserved it! Her innitial was AM S. The ambiance was very good. When we were there, the weather changed and got darker. Someone was attentive enough to turn some of the lights on. It was at arround 2-3 PM. The Thai decorations were sufficiently Thai. Will go back for sure when we get to Hilo. We wished they had a sister restaurant here in Kona.

We ordered the Panang curry chicken, Pad See Ui, and Pad Thai. The taste was good however if you are a Thai food fanatic you will notice the following: 1. the curry was a bit watered down as we are used to thicker sauce with coconut milk. 2. The portions like most Thai restaurants are a bit small. 3. Their most spicy rating of "Thai spicy" was not as spicy as we thought it'd be. The service was very good and the waitress very warm and accommodating.

First time we tried this place. I always looking for good authentic Thai food. As you know, this is Hilo. We didn't higher expectations first but, turned out to be nothing we thought it would be. Flavor was OK, very Americanized. All dish was super salty. Sorry, definitely wasn't on our list. On top of that, a super huge roach just walked front of us. A waitress and we just watched helplessly as it went.

Ok the food here is actually a 5 star. But the reason for the 4 is service. Now don't misunderstand she was solo waitressing, bussing and cashier. The restaurant wasn't overly crowded and we are very patient while waiting in a restaurant and not sure if she was annoyed we wanted to sit outside but she wouldn't smile and or talk. She seemed very off put. But even that still wouldn't have marked the star count lower as i understand people have bad days and especially being a busy waitress, HOWEVER everyone who walked in from the cruise ship got smiled and greeted by her. So I don't know if she thought because we were local we wouldn't tip well. Anyway no need for worry on it as I'll now call in my order and not have to give a tip to someone who wasn't pleasant and didn't really do much for

The food was delicious!! I had the spicy noodle dish and the portion size was generous and everything was cooked to perfection.

One of my favorite places to eat at! The food and service is always good! We ordered a bunch of appetizers and not pictured is the fried rice and yellow curry. Both were just as delicious. I've been here multiple times and have tried new things on the menu and can say I've never been disappointed. If you love Thai food this is the place to come.

Absolutely the best pad Thai I have ever had. Their Thai tea is right on point too! Better than anything we have had on Oahu. Also their mango sticky rice hits the spot!

We had a large group and they didn't blink an eye. They moved around a couple of tables and we were set up. We ordered yellow and Buddha Rama curries, pad Thai, house fried rice, black bean noodles, and garlic pepper stir fry. We had plenty of food and each dish was delicious. The curries were our favorites. The restaurant is clean and staff provides great service. Highly recommend.

We walked in pretty late but they seated us, so that was awesome. The service was okay and we had to order everything we wanted since they were closing g down the kitchen m, which wasn't a big deal. The Jasmin rice was not cook. They also would t make another martini and I'm goi not assume bc they wanted us out of there. The water was horrible and there was lipstick on my cup. Over it's not all that it's hyped up to be on the reviews.

Excellent service. I had the pad see ew with tofu. It was pretty good. Large portions. Left with leftovers!

If you're looking for AUTHENTIC Thai food in Hilo, this is the place to go! Try Ms. Nim's seafood curry or spicy basil dishes. Her Thai beef salad is also excellent!

First time trying this place out after they opened up in the old Sombats. Everything we ordered was amazing! I had the chicken panang curry. It was served fresh and hot. So much flavor and just the right amount of spice. Service was great as well. Definitely will be back!

Food was freshly made but did not enjoy the flavor of food. The cashew chicken and Chiang's noodle soup was on the sweet side of flavor maybe cause of the star anise seasoning. The service was friendly and quick. The ambiance was nice.

As always, food amazing, as was the service. The two female servers were extremely accommodating as we (and others) changed seats to avoid a very loud chronic coughing customer. Will, definitely, be back many times. I'm looking forward to the leftovers tonight.

Tiny restaurant so we did have to wait since we did not have reservations. Portions were plentiful and food was great!

Everything we had was excellent! Tom Kha, Chicken Satay, Thai Ice Tea, Red Curry, all delicious! Mild is exactly that, no heartburn! The location is easy to get to, plenty of parking too. We love New Chiang Mai, just as good food there too, good job! We'll be coming back for more great Thai food, you should too

I had the green curry with steamed tofu Thai hot. It was loaded with broccoli, bamboo shoots, carrots, baby corn, eggplant, cabbage, green beans, onions and tofu. The curry sauce was scrumptious and perfectly spiced. It came with rice, of which I ordered brown. The rice was tasty and moist. My husband had the Evil Dish with pork, also Thai hot. His dish was stir-fried with peanut sauce , and he had all the same veggies. Our server was attentive and courteous. We love New Chiang Mai, but this location is so much easier for parking. The interior is very comfortable, as well. We will definitely be back.

After seeing all the great reviews we decided it was finally time to try Nim's out. Glad we did! Friendly service and good portion sizes (we both had leftovers). What you see in the photos is what we took home). Price was average: we paid about $87 (before tax/tip) for 2 appetizer, coke, 2 dishes and a dessert. The only downside is the ambiance. I'm not a fan of the white walls.

Very delicious Thai cuisine! A large menu, everything sounds delicious...makes it hard to decide! The service was very attentive and chef even came out to ask if we liked the food. Ample, comfortable seating to enjoy a beautiful meal! Definitely recommend and will go again to support this young woman and carrying on her family cooking!!

Hey guys, peanut sauce should be a sauce, not a spoon of straight peanut butter for the summer rolls. I ordered the spicy noodles and they were so dry and had zero flavor. They had heat but no taste. There may have been 1/2 tsp of basil. This was disappointing for sure.

Nice little place to eat. Food is ok fresh ingredients. Ordered the Tom Yum (yam) soup the soup tasted delicious, they forgot to deveined the shrimps so you can see the dirty along the side of the shrimp. They didn't have small bowls for the soup to be shared so they gave us little tiny cups to serve us the soup. Parking is easy. Good prices.

Wonderful Thai food. The food was better than any Thai food I can find in my home island of Maui, and rivals Thai food in major cities! I had the summer rolls (with outstanding peanut sauce) and the Buddha Rama curry... both yummy!

Great food . Welcoming servers. Will eat here when in Hilo . Enjoy all the flavors . Make it hot or mild they accommodate.

The papaya salad was nicely seasoned. The Tom yum was slightly sweeter than I prefer but it had the typical seasoning of that region. Both dishes were generous portions. The order was ready when they said it would be and the young woman was friendly and polite.

Sister restaurant to New Chiang Mai in downtown Hilo, food is excellent, tasty, quick and with a smile. You can't go wrong dining at either reataurant. Highly recommend; we are locals and hope to see this one's popularity soar like the other.

We have been going to New Chiang Mai in downtown Hilo for many years,, but hated the lack of parking. Nim's is run by the same people. Same great food, AND ample off street parking. Fabulous.

We stopped here based on the Yelp rating and I'm certainly glad we did! We were the only ones in the restaurant so obviously service was great. The food was exceptional! We had steamed dumplings, Won Ton Soup, Chicken Pad Thai, Beef Garlic Pepper Dish and a Pineapple Curry. Everything was AMAZING!! Worth the drive from Kona!

The Laab is excellent!! Ordered take out but liked the atmosphere of the restaurant. Cozy.

Chuchee Ahi (Thai hot spice level) was simply unbelievable. Super hot but with deep flavor to balance it out. Honestly, one of my favorite Thai dishes ever.
