How to spend a weekend in Phnom Penh - SilverKris

"I lunched at Sombok (‘nest’) near the eastern end of Sisowath Quay and found it to be a decorative all-day fine-diner run by an all-female team led by celebrity chef Kimsan Pol, serving impeccably presented Khmer and international dishes." - Jonathan Evans

We had a really memorable meal here. The service was warm and friendly and the food some of the best we have had. You can definitely tell the chef worked at Embassy in Siem Reap which is another of my all time favourite SE Asian restaurants. So happy to have found this place. Recommend the tapas starter and my husband loved his beef with red ants main! Cocktails also excellent.

Absolutely the best meal I had in Phnom Penh. Sam Bok offers amazing food, great service, and a lovely ambiance. Everything from the starters to the mains was full of flavor and beautifully done. The staff were friendly and professional. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a top-notch dining experience in the city!

An amazing service and a delicious food. They have also options for a set menu. The portions aren't big, but the taste is above expectations. Clean place. Card payment available. Set hours for lunch and dinner.

Very good fine dining restaurant staffed entirely by women. Small, and delicious, portions - exactly as a fine dining restaurant should have. Excellent presentation and customer service. I took off a star because both of our menus had two pages stuck together by some sort of sticky substance. We were surprised that the attentive waitresses did not seem to notice the very loud tearing sounds as we tore open these two menu pages stuck together. Strange! Lack of attention-to-detail? Hmmm... Makes me wonder what more they are not noticing! With the high prices, a customer expects to be given a clean menu.

I had the meal around 4 pm. It was not crowded. The food tastes not bad, but sure it is not the best one. The dishes are decorated nicely, but the flowers with insect inside, I think the chef should check carefully before placing on the dishes. And for the dessert, the coconut shell is inside, it is so hard that it almost cracked my teeth! Again, the chef did not do the job well. The staff offered free lime juice for me in this meal and did not charge the beef salad. Once again, the tastes of the dishes are all good, just the chef is not careful. Hope next time, the chef will be more careful, personally, I wont come again, as I am a tourist.

Accidental treasure. Was looking for early breakfast at 715 am n saw this while walking along the riverside. Tasty food, comfortable cool ambience with view of the river. Could see the exercise stations where the locals were using . Efficient service with smiles. Free fragrant tea is served when you are reviewing the menu. Omelette was soft and tasty. Interesting small homemade sausages. Enjoyed the jam made from fruit. Worth the prices.

A hidden treasure that I nearly missed had my colleague not invited me on this dinner trip! It’s a really fancy place that offers Khmer fine dining using I think locally sourced ingredients and let me just say, the freshness can be felt with every bite!! Here’s what we got: - seafood sharing plate: bursting with the juiciest most succulent chunks of prawn and squid, this dish was more than enough for 4 of us to share. - Caramelized duck: one of my favorites: the duck meat was fall-off-the-bone tender and braised with the perfect level of sweetness. Very Chinese style, and we loved the addition of lotus root and mushrooms. - king prawn amok: one of my favorites too!! The sauce was like a very coconutty curry infused with lemongrass. Once again, their prawns are *chefs kiss* so so incredibly juicy and plump!!! - Beef with green curry paste: a very interesting combination that surprisingly felt very clean, probably from the fresh eggplants and basil Don’t miss out on the desserts here!! We got the Pandan cake, chocolate sphere and apple tart. The highlight for me was the chocolate sphere which was dark and rich and so harmonious with the hot sauce and ice cream that came with it. All in all 10/10, would come again!

In Phnom Penh with the family from the states and Sombok was recommended by our river cruise company. The food was the best we have had in Cambodia. Ingredients were fresh, flavors delicious and presentation was excellent! Would definitely recommend
