Some Good Wine

I met Jeremy Block, the owner of Some Good Wine, when I walked into his store at 13 East 8th Street. Jeremy was not only knowledgeable but also very friendly and while I live about 60 blocks north, I could envision having him deliver wine to our apartment.

Came for a wine and cheese tasting class which was very nice. A great mixture of wine and cheese with some education along the way around the individual wine selections. A great date night!

Rare treat of a well curated wine shop with fair market pricing. Excellent and knowledgeable wine staff. I go out of my way to pop by when in the neighborhood.

Some Good Wine is one of my favorite wine shops! Jeremy the owner has introduced me to many new wines that I now regularly buy. The selection in the shop is a good mix of natural wines, and old-school classics. Most of my ordering is via his email newsletter, but I also like to have Jeremy put together mix cases when the cellar is in need of restocking (highly recommend this option if you want to try something new!). I live out of state (in PA with the state-run system that sucks), and have my orders shipped. I have never had an issue in 6+ years of buying wine from Jeremy.

LOVE this wine store. Have bought so much good stuff from Jeremy over the years. He has it all, at every price point.. every bottle is chosen by him, and he has a terrific palate [or maybe it just agrees with mine ;-) ].. AND he gets to know your taste! You will find bottles here you cannot find elsewhere.. buy them!! you will be happy you did!

Came in for the first time yesterday and the worker was very nice! I asked for a rec and they immediately directed me to a bottle that I knew nothing about so I just trusted their knowledge & they do seem to have a great selection. I leave and check the reviews… 3.4 stars on Vivino which puts it below their average rating of all wines. Got home, it’s definitely on the lower side of average. Sorry, but it’s just cringe to so highly recommend something so mid, especially when decent 4.0+ bargains are common in NYC wine shops! Not a great experience.

AHMAZING store!!!!! I went to NYC last summer and had to stop by to buy Xila but they were out. I was told to call later when they get more. I called again recently and was told that they are in stock. I was very happy to order through online right away. Good selection, nice store layout and spacious. I like the name. Labels female winemakers! Has wines I can't find elsewhere. But, I cannot recommend it to most people, since I was disappointed with their staff. He was friendly but not helpful: (i) on his phone playing a video without earphones, maybe that distracted him but to my questions, he told me that (ii) "it's better to order online" since their out-of-state storage has more items, the particular Morgon I checked "in stock" online is not available right now (iii) and that "there's no sherry in this store" and pointed to me that the store towards Broadway may have it (I appreciate his efforts to help, in his own way). Choosing to make a purchase today instead of online, since I'm here, I continued to browse. Later in the store, I found the very sherry that I wanted in the store, so when I pointed that out, he said to me twice that he "thought you said 'cherry'." I believe customers who want cherry liqueur will say, "cherry liqueur." So, I did not get the customer-service part of the joy of shopping at a brick-and-mortar store. If you've equipped yourself with some wine knowledge and don't need help, or like he suggested, order through their website, I think it's a fun wine store.

Solid selection considering the size. And a nice bourbon price on Willet. Lots of French wines.

These guys processed an online order from me for $300 and then ghosted me for a month, with no updates to the status of order and no answers to my emails. When I finally got someone on the phone to ask what was up with the shipment, he told me he'd investigate and get back to me and then he just... never did. A week later, they finally responded to my email saying "Oh we never actually had that wine in stock." Awesome!

As the name suggests, they have some good wine. I found the Some Good Wine shop thru Wine-searcher.com. I was in need of a bottle of Velenosi Verdicchio and they had it. The store is accessible from the W 4 St station, and is very convenient for anybody who works or studies at NYU.

I am not one to write reviews (this might be my first Yelp review), but the outstanding customer service has motivated me. I placed an on-line order that needed modification. When I called, the owner caught the call and he went above and beyond with assistance; again demonstrating small businesses are the best businesses. I will definitely return to Some Good Wine to find some high quality, great value wine!

Who is operating a wine shop during the height of the omicron surge in one of the worst hit cities where not a single staff member wears a mask? I was going to buy something but I walked out empty handed because I didn't want to go near the maskless cashier. I'm pretty sure it's even against a city ordinance to operate your store this way. UPDATE: would just like to update my review after this business owners frankly rude response. That there were multiple employees in the store, none of them wearing masks, none of them drinking coffee. They just were not wearing masks none of them. And maybe in the future instead of making fun of a potential customer you can apologize and fix the problem instead of lying. UPDATE 2: After his original comment was taken down due to it violating the yelp terms of service he has come back with another comment accusing me of racism even though the person not wearing a mask looked white to me. Whatever, he's honestly pretty broken up about the fact that I called him out on this and getting so shockingly defensive you can make up your own mind. But maybe read his response and think twice before doing business with this person. I would have taken down the review and considered visiting the shop again if he admitted his mistake and fixed the problem but now I will never set foot in there again.

They went above and beyond to get me a particular wine and when I asked them if they could also send some bottles to an out of state friend, they made it happen. I deeply appreciated all the help and attention. I will happily give them my business because they are spectacular.

Rude, snooty. Unapologetically. Could care less, I am sure. Also pointed me to a $65 bottle without asking my budget.

Imagine you have a friend and he/she is a great wine professional. You feel just like that coming to Some Good Wine to meet Jeremy and his team. Friendly atmosphere, huge knowledge and a big help with choosing your bottles. The other thing which I love here is a wide range of wines and spirits - for every people and for every occassion. If you need valuable bottles from Burgundy - come here. If you need something new and out of the mainstream - come here. If you need interesting whiskeys and bourbons - come here. And if you just need canned Rose or Pinot Grigio from Oregon for your garden party - you should come here! I fully recommend this place and I assure you it will become your 'must' stop after the first visit.

The only place I can find the excellent wines from small producers that I enjoy while abroad. For those of who live out of state, shipping is the answer!

I've never had a bad bottle of wine from here. Jeremy and his staff are extremely knowledgeable and give great recommendations for any budget. Great place to find wines you are not going to see anywhere else. Love having SGW in the neighborhood!!

We had so much fun at the painting class with Gina Tonic. The wine tastings were absolutely delicious. This is truly a hidden gem in the village. You have to check out some good wine.

To heed my call for wine In hopes to find my search Some Good Wine has knowledgeable staff, courteous and friendly without the typical sales tactics of being pushy and aggressive or money hungry. They are passionate wine aficionados and exhibit compassion to their customers who appear content in their field of business. Wine and other tasting events are available and customers can signup to their email list. Upon my solo entrance I was immediately greeted and offered free wine tastings that I ended up purchasing one bottle. Upon scanning their wine selection it appears the wine are mainly from Bordeaux and Loire Valley, France. They have a fold-up map of Loire Valley, France wine country complimenting with food pairings. The cashier educated me to chill white wines which I never knew as I always consumed it room temperature. Price varies from reasonable $19.00 to $350.00 depending on vintage year, brand name, or alcohol type. I opt for the 2014 Francois Pinon Silex, Noir Vouvray (Loire Valley, France) $24.99. Clean, bright and well organized wine store. Aisles are wide without the narrowness to accidently knock bottles or break bottles. Yelp mobile check-in offer is available.

Someone else called this place a "neighborhood treasure" - yes! We love our monthly trips to SGW to buy a case of wine - Jeremy and his staff are knowledgable, personable, and sensitive to our sad budget (some day we'll have that cellar... some day). We discovered Canary Islands wines through this place - who knew the Canary Islands produced wine?! Also some great whiskey/rums and a bottled cocktail called "Gingeroo" that was surprisingly tasty. A true local business for locals that has personality and character (unlike some of those other big wine shops that will remain nameless) - we hope they stay around for a very long time. Oh - and Some Good Beer is awesome too! The cans have made our fridge so pretty.

Went to a sip and sing event on a Saturday and it was the perfect activity to enjoy with my family and some friends. The music was great and the wine selection was abundant. Seemed like they had rows of choices from all over the world. I highly recommend this wine store!

This store is bright, clean and easy to shop. You don't feel like your bags are going to knock a wine over. Near Washington Square a Park and NYU. I'm not saying a picnic in the park should involve wine, but as long as it's well concealed and you don't get all wasted, no one is going to care.

So yesterday I attended the Earth Wines, sampling event. It was honestly such an amazing experience. It was nice to see a great turn out, and be able to actually chat with some new people, as well as the friends I came with. The people serving each type of wine seemed to be very very knowledgeable. Brooklyn was so so so helpful in getting us glasses, and informing us of how everything worked. She also seemed knowledgeable about the store and wines and such that we not being sampled. All and all, this event was amazing, and I for sure would attend the next, as well as come here next time I need some wine or liquor. Only downfall is that, everyone was throwing their coats and bags into a pile, and it made me feel a tad unsafe for my stuff. 100% would give a 5 star review if they put a coat rack somewhere nearby.

Excellent knowledgeable staff! Beautiful store and establishment. I've been there for wine & rum tastings. They have a huge international selection of wares. They hold great products and are Not pushy during the free / open house events. So I got to enjoy the atmosphere & purchase before I left. Although I prefer my "mulata-Cuban ron"... I was intrigued by the products from the tasting. The Venezuelan aged rums & wines they carry are so Rich &delicious. So I bought one & am quite pleased with it. This place is Really good

This capacious store is brand spanking new! With a very friendly staff and wonderful selection of wines, i enjoyed my shopping experience, and would likely return for tastings and rack re-fills. I was very pleased with the selection and even found a few bottles of rare Italian Reds that i was looking out for. Although i usually do my wine shopping in Queens where prices tend to be more favorable than in Manhattan, i found the cost here to be quite reasonable. There is a nice Top 20 under $20 section in the front, if you are vino shopping on a budget. What i really loved about this place is the categorization of bottles! If you arent sure what kind of region or grapes to look for, but you have flavors and tastes in mind, then this organization is great for you (Earthy, Gamey and Animalistic; Big, Rich and Powerful)!

Went to a 50 shades of Rose tasting and had some exceptional roses. The event had a spacious layout with six tables each with anywhere from 2-6 bottles to taste. We tried several sparkling roses and roses from all regions. One notable table was a sparkling rose that had two different sparkling wines that tasted exactly like extracted strawberry. The wines were not too sweet and were perfectly balanced. The bottles were so delicious we brought one of each of the strawberry flavored sparkling roses. There was a special event only discount of 10% off of wines that were served at the tasting. I have been to several rose tastings and rate this event the best. It seems they carefully choose which wines to showcase. They may have even turned my rose hating boyfriend into a rose drinker.

Unique, KNOWLEDGABLE, easy-going Staff (ESPECIALLY Charles)! Fun to be taken on a journey through terroir never considered or known. New FAV!

Literally the best wine store ever. not only was it 8pm at night & I had to use the bathroom extremely bad and they were beyond generous to let me go. You guys are A+ in customer service I cannot thank you enough.

This place is the best! Huge selection and lovely staff that really goes extra mile. Far superior to other wine shops in the neighborhood (looking at you Union Square). Morale of this review - pop in for a great recommendation or a bottle of a favorite.

Well stocked wine shop around the corner from Washington Square Park. Interesting selection of bottles from around the world. Gems from up and coming regions like Finger Lakes, Corsica or Canary Islands. Let Jeremy ( the friendly owner ) choose something cool for you. Very nice artisan spirits section as well.

Go for the wine, stay for the whiskey! Let me preface this by saying that I rarely spend time on my phone and I am only behind a computer very sporadically so now that I finally am, the first thing I have to do is give Some Good Wine a glowing five star review. Every single staff member is friendly, knowledgeable, and has the kind of charisma that keeps the conversation going when you are eager to share preferences and find a great bottle/bottles for your palate and price range. Their wine selection is excellent (Canary Islands? Hungary? Tiny hard to reach regions of Italy? The possibilities are endless) and their liquor wall wins every time. Some Good Wine quickly became my number one spot in NYC even though I live a few neighborhoods away. As a red, white, whiskey, gin, etc fan, this shop can send you home smiling with the best burgundies, the most crisp whites, and a scotch or rye that will blow your mind. Trust Jeremy or Ethan and do yourself a favor: buy a case that includes all of the above.

This is a fantastic little wine shop that everyone should check out. Fabulous selection of wines, incredibly friendly and knowledgeable owner, and very creative aesthetic. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the neighborhood.

My first visit to Some Good Wine was Fantastic! A vast array of libations catering to the most refined to casual palates - price points also varied. Was there for a wine tasting and seminar given by MJK and Jeremy - a most delightful introduction! Jeremy was professional and gracious. I will definitely be back!

In search of something you cannot find at a regular establishment? Come here instead. Great for a can of wine or small bottle to sip discreetly in Washington Square Park. Great selection of everything, including Island wine which I didn't even know existed.

Just picked up a nice bottle of sake and very much looking forward to doing my shopping here. The staff could not be friendlier nor more helpful. We've long needed a decent bottle shop nearby and this looks to fit the bill. Can't wait to drop in again!

This is one of the truly unique wine shops in New York City. They keep the best wines in stock and their staff is ridiculously helpful and friendly.

Huge fan of this place to select from a nicely curated selection of wines. I enjoy Italian reds the most and I haven't picked out one I haven't enjoyed greatly yet. Arranged and organized to make finding selections easy, check it out for not-just-another wine store.

This store is a blessing for the neighborhood. It is the first wine purveyor in the immediate area to focus on small, quality wine growers versus big-name ho-hum-ness. I learn something new every time I come in the store, and Jeremy is happy to entertain my desire to try something different each time. In addition, there is a great selection of amaro, gin, whiskey and rye, vodka, etc. from select producers in the front of the store. I highly recommend stopping by.

I'm no wine connoisseur and, frankly, a lot of good wine stores sort of make me feel anxious or a touch intimidated. Some Good Wine seems to strike just the right balance. It is clear they are knowledgable. And they seem to have cultivated a really interesting collection of inventory. But they are also super friendly (say hi to Jeremy, he's a good guy) and the place just feels neighborhood-y. They are fairly new but I'm already a fan.

In short, my wife & I are incredibly impressed with Some Good Wine. It is one of the best recommendations we received from our son & daughter in law when we visited them in NYC from Australia. We had the luxury of spending a month with them which meant that we were regular visitors to Some Good Wine. It was not just the range of Domestic, New World & Old World wines & Liquors that impressed us, it was the quality. This was topped off by the in depth knowledge the staff had on each wine. We were able to tap into this numerous times by selecting wines perfect for the various dishes we planned. I was also able to enjoy a range of excellent single malt Scotches. By commenting on Yelp, it is my small way of thanking them for all the great recommendations we enjoyed.

Great new wine shop with an amazing selection of craft liquors and wines from around the world. The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable. The wines are well organized by wine description, which makes them easy to navigate. Very handy when looking for a wine more by style than name, region or producer. Will definitely be going back.

I planned to visit this wine shop on my last visit to NYC because I found that it was one of the only places that sold Gingeroo - a delicious pre-made cocktail from New Orleans. I feared missing my train so I decided to order from their online site instead. Not only was the shipping reasonable - the bottles arrived on my doorstep he next day! I hope to actually visit the store the next time I am in NYC.

We walked in here today and although it's still not fully stocked, IMMEDIATELY fell in love with the layout. What I love the most is the way things are labeled, Fruity yet serious, Sweet but not too sweet, etc. I love wine, but could never remember which I like, and am sometimes in the mood for a particular kind of wine, but I don't know one from another, and there was a great range of prices too. The man whom I believe to be the owner, was amazingly helpful and super kind. We signed up immediately for their mailing list, and I'm looking forward to their events. Definitely a great addition! I don't live in the area, yet it would be worth the trip.

Great addition to the neighborhood with a very cool selection of wines & liquids. Wine starts around $9 and goes up over $200. Everything seems competitively priced and they've got plenty of affordable options for your dinner party.

This is my favorite wine/liquor shop on the planet. Here's why: (1) super kind, responsive and smart staff. (2) excellent selection. Truly. Outstanding. What does this add up to? Some of my favorite things to drink were discovered at this store because of their staff. Yum, yum!
