"Hike or Canoe to Cascades There’s no shortage of refreshing waterfalls in eastern Jamaica . But after Reach Falls, I’d say Somerset—also located on the east coast—is a close second in natural beauty. Somerset Falls’ cascades can be reached by hiking or by canoe ride along the river. Either way, it’s a stunning, still relatively verdant area teeming with bird life—resident parrots—and caves to explore. It’s easy to find too, ideal for a day trip from either Port Antonio or Ocho Rios. Look out for a billboard right off the paved northern highway, about an hour and a half north of Ocho Rios."

After all these years, I anticipated that this place would've at least maintained its beauty. Sadly, it's looking tattered and torn. Fortunately, the falls and river is mostly clean and still majestically beautiful. The staff is very polite and helpful. The bathroom facility was clean. The boat ride to the falls is short but very satisfying when done right. Patrons were constantly being reminded of rules around sanitization and safety - all locals. Sadly. We went the Tuesday after Easter Monday and was charged "holiday rates". It's still one of my favorite place to pop in. It just could use a face-lift and decent food court/bar.

I had an amazing time here even on a cold cloudy day. This was hands down the best part of my trip to Somerset. Upon arrival, things start off rocky. The prices for non Jamaican are a bit offensive to be honest. I hate that these are the fees but after I got over it, it was an enjoyable experience. The hidden waterfall was perfect. It you do come here I suggest you wear water shoes. I walked around barefoot and it was okay but I would’ve preferred swim Shoes. Also bring a water proof case for your phone to take pictures at the falls. This place is definitely a day activity. Theres a pool, a slide, a bar and the staff was very welcoming and friendly as well. Aside from the price, We had a good time. I have to stress that. I would definitely come back here and I would encourage others to come as well. Thank you for making our trip memorable!

Somerset Falls is truly one of Portland's best gems. A few months in the back, Somerset Falls was closed down due to the river being completely dry. Since the rains fell throughout the wet season, Somerset was given a grand revival and it flowing betta than ever. The premise is very nice and well maintained. Now for the main thing itself, the falls... Well, if you do catch Somerset during the rainy time, you'll see alot of mini waterfalls scattered about the place... All of which adds to the allure of the place. The boat ride to the main fall is definitely fun and is the most unique thing about Somerset. The main falls is beautiful and quite cold. It was running pretty heavy when I visited. If you're a non swimmer then you don't have to worry too much, because life vest are provided right nefore you start the boat ride to the falls. I think Somerset is open almost every day, but the weekends are the best times, because the water slides and pools are open on the weekends. I don't quite remember how much exactly was the admission, for these images are from a visit a few months ago. I think it's around 1500 jmd tho. So along with the slide and pool, there is also something of a zoo. It has a few birds, a snake, and a deer. I can assure you that you'll enjoy your visit at Somerset Falls.

Right in hope bay Portland, a must visit for all River falls lovers, the scenery is wonderful but a little dark due to trees around the area. The water is perfect for swimming, and the water slide is awesome. Get here for a great vacation or day out.

I loved the falls, didn’t go in the pool too much kids so I let them enjoy my part too 😅, another slide thing I let them enjoy that too for me. I think the houses need fresh painting though and the pool walls, more birds probably because the one that was their wild and then the man indicated that because he’s in the cage that long he’s not gonna come out now. More colors flowers. The falls was nice..

Absolutely breathtaking! Went during the work week, so it was only me and my friend with the tour guides. There’s an entrance fee $1000 (locals) and $1500 (tourists). It was very quiet and we went closer to closing time 5pm so we didn’t stay long. But we saw the tour and went under the falls, had a massage from the falls and swam for a bit. Would DEFINITELY recommend and return!!

Great place to check out - its currently off season so pool/bar/restaurants were closed - but it was great as there were only 4 of us there. They've had a lot of rain lately so the falls were flowing heavily! Boat ride behind the falls, massage was a bit too powerful for me with current flow - swam back. So lush! Spent a few hours relaxing/ swimming, checking out the tiny "zoo", exploring the grounds.
