The views are lovely, but not well run or good value for the money. Rooms have no soundproofing and are perched over noisy bars and restaurants. It being a warm evening, we eventually decided to close the windows and try the a/c, which produced much noise and rattling but very little cooling. Several hours later, a call to the front desk produced, eventually, a visit from a staff member, who seemed to think it was working fine. Much arguing eventually produced a new room with working a/c, but if you are booking this hotel in warm weather be warned: the loft-like bedrooms are an oven no matter how cold you make the downstairs.
The rooms look good but nothing is particularly well thought out or comfortable. Electrical outlets are few and far between. The toilet produced a satisfactory result only with multiple flushes and a silent prayer. For the pillows there is an option of large and hard or flat and lumpy.
The restaurant T42, which the front desk says is independently owned (co-dependently?), despite which fact one can charge the bill to one's room, was a cacophony of noise at 7:30 a.m. We tried to escape to the patio, which was empty, but where we were treated to a loud playlist of 70s rock, which might have been fun during cocktail hour but was an assault first thing in the morning. We asked for it to be switched off (seeing we were the only people not enjoying it), but waiter explained that it must be left on to attract customers (!). Same indifferent waiter brought us extremely overcooked eggs, toast, and coffee for just under $45 for two. We were even charged $1 for the butter and $4 for the second piece of toast that we were offered (and assumed was complementary, it being a little strange to be asked whether one wished for 1 or 2 pieces of toast). To be fair, a complaint produced a yawn and a refund of $5.
Do not bring a car here! Parking is complementary, which is less a statement of generosity and more a warning: it is worthless. 5 spots at the end of the pier, another half dozen across the street, and, we were told, some more half way across town. We ended up parking in the pay spots nearby; perhaps some vigilance and luck will bring us a spot today.
So much for day 1!
