Copenhagen Is the Capital of Christmas—What to See and Do

"Hidden in a courtyard, this small shop has been making traditional Danish candies by hand for more than a century, with a viewing area where we watched red and white sugar for the peppermint Bismarck design get rolled together while still hot, stretched into a long strip, and snipped into pieces with scissors; warm, fresh samples arrived on a silver dish." - Tamara Shopsin Tamara Shopsin Tamara Shopsin is an illustrator, graphic designer, writer, part-time cook, and co-owner of the New York City eatery Shopsin’s. Wonderful! This place is sort of tucked away and easy to miss, but definitely worth going out of your way for a visit! All the flavors they have are delicious and were a big hit as gifts brought back home. Watching the candy being made live was an added bonus! Highly recommended.

The original! The one and only! Still making candy the right way. No visit to Copenhagen is complete without a visit to Somods. And the candy is absolutely delightful. It’s the best. Buy some candy. It’ll make your trip better. And it’ll make your return home better. I recommend the pear candy. Just walking around the city and popping hard candy just made things better. We had to return for more candy. It’s hard to find candy without a bunch of chemicals. Go there now! ENJOY!

A must visit shop if you are in Copenhagen. You even get a chance to see how they are producing the candies(their production schedule can be found on their website). Especially loved the banana, salted caramel and filled with whiskey ones.

Truly a GEM!! Visited the sweet shop ad caught the "live" candy making season by masters!! It is truly an eye opening experience and got to taste test the candy straight away!! Rhubarb and lemon flavor!!

Watched the sweets get made. Was a lovely experience. One of the hidden gems in Copenhagen. The candy is delicious. Lemon and coffee do far are my favorite 2 flavors. Can get free samples so you make sure you are buying the ones you will love.

Very cute, lots of options. You can get a sample. The only downside is that you have to get at least 50g of each flavor, so maybe try a sample of any unique flavors you want first. I got chocolate and whiskey, strawberry and vanilla, coffee and marzipan, and rhubarb and vanilla. The strawberry and vanilla is super good, as is the coffee and marzipan. The chocolate and whiskey is heavy on the whiskey, so I don't really like it. And then I haven't tried the rhubarb yet. The bag of ~200g was around $15.

Expensive gourmet fancy candy but worth the trip when in Copenhagen. Service was pleasant and professional. We were in and out but would’ve stayed for the candy tour if we had more time!

The oldest candy shop in Copenhagen did not disappoint. My only complaint is that I didn’t buy more during my visit. The staff were super friendly and helpful and made it a great experience. Definitely recommend!
