The 30 Best Things to See and Do in Barcelona (Updated 2025)

"Barcelona’s long, wide beach is open year-round with good swimming and a lively boardwalk full of restaurants; it was built with imported Egyptian sand for the 1992 Olympics, is almost always busy, and I recommend walking out toward Sant Sebastià or Somorrostro for quieter, cleaner sections." - Matthew Kepnes

Barcelona Itinerary: How to Spend 3-5 days here in 2025

"I also recommend Somorrostro as another quieter beach option north of the center and one of my two favorite spots for a less touristy beach day." - Matthew Kepnes

The beach is nicely taken care of because there is no garbage in the water or in the sand, I assume it would be really gorgeous without so many people being close to the port and the city. Even so, you can enjoy the sun and water, just do not bring anything valuable with you. There are so many pickpocketers and if you leave anything unattended, it will get taken. If you want to swim bring only a towel and your clothes :) Also, there are a lot of sellers so be prepared because they offer you things to buy every few minutes. Overall, a great place to go if you want to refresh after a walk in the city or if you want a quick swim in the heat without having to go too far. I recommend the beaches a little further on the coast.

Beautiful beach with very clean sand and warm water. There are sunbeds available to hire at €15 euros per bed and per brolly, which is quite pricey at €45 per day for two people but attentive staff running them. Lots of people and locals, very busy but a good vibe. Some lovely beach bars along the front - quite posh so wear suitable clothing and shoes. It would be good if there were cheaper options too for buying snacks, crisps etc. A little water and ice cream stand was a welcomed addition on the promenade. Only downside is the amount of sellers trying to get your attention which is illegal on the beach. Selling drinks, henna, massages etc. constantly shouting "mojito, water, beer" etc and coming up to your bed asking if you want a massage. The only way to really stop them is completely ignore them (which is not in my nature but you have to) any engagement and they try and start a conversation with you. The police do patrol the beach, but there is always a look out and then hide amongst the beds and hide their stuff in the sand so it doesn't get confiscated. They're just a little annoying especially as it's not wanted/needed when you're trying to relax.

In front of the clubs this beach is more for action or volleyball. Next to the Port the water is very dirty. Playing volleyball is fun but only until you step into glass or jump on a Rock.

Although considered the most commercial and touristy beach in the city, it’s actually quite enjoyable! You’ll always be able to find a free spot on the beach. It’s relatively clean and well-maintained. However, be cautious of pickpockets and scammers. Additionally, the beach shops and restaurants are very expensive, so it's best to avoid them.

Great beach to hangout at night with friends. It always has some sort of thing going for it, like a celebration or a festival. For example, they do fireworks at San Juan there and at the festival de la merce they had a big drone show.

Somorrostro Beach felt relaxed and had a bit more space than the others, with a nice mix of locals and a few tourists. The atmosphere was perfect for unwinding by the water, and there were nearby spots for drinks and snacks after a swim.

Nice beach with great water. Recommend to bring some snacks and drinks since the options nearby are scarce. We bought a sun umbrella for 20€ in a shop and set it up our selves which seems to be way cheaper, especially if you go to the beach more than once during your stay. Only downside is the sellers constantly trying to sell you stuff.
