Locked out. Midnight. No one replies to texts or through the app. On hold for 10+ minutes and still waiting. Sitting on the floor of a moldy apartment building with our stuff locked inside and a broken lock. Customer service is nonexistent. Stay at your own risk.

Our group of 6 stayed here last weekend and while the place was only ok, it has so much potential to be great. I will first start with the pros: • Fantastic location – close to everything and easy to get around. • Great layout – the space is well-designed and comfortable for a group. • Private bathrooms – each bedroom having its own en-suite bathroom is a huge plus, and the additional half bath was very convenient. Now for the Cons: • Cleanliness was a major issue – all the bathrooms were extremely dirty upon arrival. Walls had visible dirt and grime on them, the baseboards looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in ages, and bedroom walls were layered in dust. The entire unit clearly needs a deep clean. • Poorly stocked kitchen – for a unit that sleeps six, there were only two wine glasses and generally not enough kitchen essentials to accommodate a full group. • Skylight issues – two of the bedrooms had skylights directly over the beds with no blinds, making it nearly impossible to sleep past sunrise. • Toilet issues on arrival – all toilets had large amounts of toilet paper in them when we arrived, likely left from the cleaners. One toilet clogged as a result, and when I contacted maintenance, the response was dismissive: “There should be a plunger in the bathroom you can use.” No apology or follow-up was offered. This place has a lot of potential, but several things need to be addressed: • A professional cleaning before each guest stay should be non-negotiable. • The kitchen needs to be properly stocked for the number of guests the unit is advertised to sleep. • Blinds or covers should be added to skylights in sleeping areas. • Maintenance and customer service should be more responsive, accountable, and guest-focused. A simple apology and an offer to help would have gone a long way. If those things were improved, I’d absolutely consider staying again or recommending it to others. As it stands, it felt more like an afterthought than a professionally managed rental.

I agree with other reviews about how shady it feels that there were a handful of people standing around on the sidewalk, right in front of the entrance to this apartment building. It didn’t seem like there was anything necessarily wrong with that, other than they were probably getting fresh air from working the laborer jobs. Is there anything that can be done about that? Probably not. But it’s something you should consider when deciding where to book if it’s a possibly uncomfortable situation. I did see there were security cameras in the building, primarily the long stairwell, and at the end of the hallways. There was a camera right about the door to our unit at the end of the hall (304). We stayed 1-bedroom/1-bath Unit 304, facing the main street, you get a partial view of Sears Tower from the living room. I do wish the bathroom got a deeper cleaning. The vanity drawers were filthy and the shower was moldy. Sonder chat team was very responsive to any issues we had during our stay. If you like to request extra items (like lotions/soap and other amenities) make sure you request them all at once. It could take up to 24 hours for delivery. However we requested extra towels and bar soap when we arrived and they were delivered right away (just so happened that someone on the team was already in the area near by). The design and space of the unit was very nicely done. High ceilings, ample space. All kitchen equipment you’d need is available. Free coffee and tea supplied in the kitchen. Washer/dryer in unit. Laundry detergent is in the form of pods. I won’t hesitate to stay with Sonder in Chicago again, however a different location.

Good location; the three en-suite bedrooms was great for our small group. Only downside is the 3 flights of stairs when we had heavy bags. We were in unit 401 and there was an additional flight of stairs inside to get to the living space. Plus side was being on the top floor meant no street noise or neighbor noise. I like Sonder’s model and would stay again. Walking distance to good restaurants and a Whole Foods.

Family of five for a week's break in Chicago. The apartment is very spacious and modern. A couple of flights of stairs was not too onerous for our luggage and the local area had some excellent facilities within a short walk including Giordano's Pizza, Meli Cafe for Breakfast, Starbucks, Athena Greek Restaurant, Whole Foods and Walgreens. The street parking was not an issue - we regularly could park right outside or within 1 or 2 blocks for free.

We stayed at the Sonder Greektown for a long weekend in May with six adults. We were in a three bedroom with 3.5 baths. The good: plenty of space, comfortable beds—all kings, full kitchen, rooftop terrace. Close to public transit and very walkable to the the loop. Lots of restaurants close by. The bad: parking is a challenge—we used spothero and parked in a garage for the weekend at Akadia and it worked out fine. If you have a lot of luggage or coolers, dropping off at the apartment is hard and there is no room inside the entrance at all to leave items for a few minutes. There are approximately 45+ stairs straight up from entrance and then another long flight once we accessed the apartment—#401. Pack light! While the roof terrace was cool, there is no lawn chairs or tables to use. The apartment was also amazingly dusty with thick layers on the light fixtures and vents. There were also many long black hairs in the bathroom and on the windowsill. Many of the lightbulbs were burned out and I did message Sonder and they sent someone to change them the next day. Overall, it was a good stay and I would recommend. We did not have any issue with people loitering around the entrance as has been mentioned in other reviews.

Loved our stay at Chicago Sonder in Greektown! We had a large 1br with king bed. Full sized kitchen with full sized appliances and even a gas range. Very comfortable bed with crispy white bedding. The unit felt very clean when we arrived. A couple things to note... 1) This is a walk-up. No elevator. We were on the top (3rd) floor. Wasn't an issue for us but good to keep in mind if stairs are an issue for you. 2) We were on the top floor of Sonder's space but I think there is some other tenant just above and she likes to pace around her hardwood floors, in heels, starting at 7am Mondays. 3) The secondary shower head had a huge leak and wasn't useable. No big deal as the main head worked fine. 4) There's no staff on site. Most Sonders have someone in an office near the front but this one does not. Again, not a big deal but something to keep in mind for some. 5) Some have commented about people standing around out front. There is a hostel/shelter next door. They are just hanging out, getting fresh air and socializing. They were not a problem in any way.

Key to know is this is a walk up property. Stairs to the top. Particularly Unit 401, are a haul but ok 2x a day. Good neighborhood and the property was one of the quietest urban stays we’ve ever had. Water pressure in the showers was underwhelming. Unit 401 with 3 huge beds was exceptionally.
