Frustrating check-in and chaotic experience
I really wanted to like this stay, but the check-in process was such a hassle. I booked through Marriott (where I have an account), but was then prompted to download the Sonder app for codes and access—despite using the same email, the two accounts weren’t connected in their system. That already felt clunky and confusing.
When I arrived, I was able to get into the building, but when I opened the door to my assigned unit, I was shocked to find someone else clearly still staying there. Clothes, luggage, and a strong odor greeted me. I immediately stepped out, closed the door, and contacted support.
But since I wasn’t connected to the unit's Wi-Fi (because the login info was inside the room), I had trouble even accessing the app. After about 40 minutes, I was finally given a different unit. Except…the access code didn’t work. I had to contact support again, wait another 20 minutes, and was finally given a working code.
All in all, I didn’t get into my room until almost an hour after arrival. For a self-check-in model that’s supposed to be seamless, this was anything but.
