How Hotels Are Fixing the Most Annoying Room Issues - AFAR

"Across Sonesta hotels, I learned the brand has adopted a quality-assurance standard requiring a mix of USB-C, USB-A, and standard outlets at every bedside and desk to make charging more convenient." - Bailey Berg

I really enjoyed my stay at the Sonesta. Tyra at the front desk was amazing. She helped with every request I made, and I made quite a few. She was proactive, kind, and handled everything professionally with a smile. The hotel is older, but it’s clean and well cared for. I didn’t have any issues with housekeeping, cleanliness, or pests as other reviews mentioned. Housekeeping was also very nice and quick to bring anything I needed. The lobby is welcoming, and while the pool was a little too cool to use, I liked the indoor and outdoor setup. The location worked perfectly for me and was only about 15–20 minutes from the airport and the places I wanted to visit. Overall, a great stay and I’d definitely come back.

Room was decent. But the rooms have no microwaves. The mini fridge had problems staying cold. The Wifi was out most of my stay. They also charged an incidental fee that has taken way too long to be refunded. And yes, the staff is rude as hell. Basically, this location sucks and so does the staff. I will not book at this location ever again.

If I could give a negative star I would! My boyfriend booked us an executive suite for the nba yb concert Sunday night , we was so excited recording to open the door to being welcomed to the inside lock was on it then a man and a woman was like “this is someones room” which they had black outfits on looking like they were going to the concert as well ?? Okay. that’s crazy WHY would front desk give us a key to a room with someone in it???? mind you we are from VA ( 2hr drive) my boyfriend tells me to wait while he runs downstairs to see what’s going on ( we on the 18th floor so the ELEVATORS ARE SLOW) the first time he went down there they sent him back up and said “security will come” SECURITY NEVER SHOWED!! (come to find out security “went home”and they don’t know why) UNPROFESSIONAL!!! UNSAFE!! My boyfriend goes downstairs AGAIN mind you no security is no where to be found!!!! When he returns she told him “ I don’t know how you booked that room it has been rented out for months “ then why was I able to BOOK it we are a genuis level 3 on booking and had NEVERRR had this problem! So this time I go downstairs with him the lady was like I’ll give yall two breakfast cards and gave us a room key it was still on the 19th floor executive level but it was a preferred kind room instead of the suite he book $100 difference!!! (Not 50 not 20) Pressing for time I start to get ready for the show because mind you all this happened!! It’s almost time to leave!! while we in the room the front desk calls “ I don’t know why they are in your room & won’t get out “ ANY PROFESSIONAL HOTEL STAFF would have went in the room and removed the people stuff had it cleaned changed the key and it would have been fine but this place downplayed us smh.( I DONT KNOW IF IT WAS BECAUSE OF OUR SKINTONE OR IF IT WAS BECAUSE WE WASNT FROM CLT ) My boyfriend asked the front desk rep who called “ well can I have my difference back then , because I specifically paid for THAT room on purpose “ the rep replied “ you’ll have to wait until the morning when the manager gets here “ like I said pressing for time to get to the show we left , fast forward to next day my boyfriend is up at 8 am to speak to a manger no manger is there apparently when we leave for Check out “ the manger is going to call him around 3 when they come in “ here it is 3:01 and still no car you thought giving breakfast cards and putting us in a low ball room with not even a micro wave would make it better SHAME ON YOU!!! Thank god the concert was amazing because u would’ve ruined our whole trip! (YOU BASICALLY DID) IF THE MANAGER IS READING THIS CALL MY BOYFRIEND PLEASE THE FRONT DESK KNOWS HIS NUMBER

Google
The location is great but I had unexpected charges on my account. They tried to say it was my bank processing the room twice but in reality it was them charging my husband when they should have. You can’t charge me $600 and then $156 and blame it on my bank saying they are charging me day by day. I’ve stayed at hotels and never had this happen. Will never stay at Sonesta again.

Dell V.

Google
The location was awesome, however. the room had a dead water bug underneath one of the chairs. The staff could've more accommodating when asked about their late checkout policy. Apparently, you have to pay a hefty fee to check out late and the price increasing based on the number of hours. Otherwise not a totally bad stay.

Google
Positive: Everyone was so friendly upon welcoming us best part as sonesta members we don’t pay for parking. Which we were not aware of. Negative: Everything was great! Loved the restaurant and bar on site and pool area making it very relaxing to sit outside and just relax

I recently stayed at the Sonesta Charlotte Lower South End hotel. The housekeeping service there is very poor. |First of all you have to request it in order to receive it. The door sign says " Unapologetically Unplugged" on both sides of it so it is not very helpful.|When I tried to call housekeeping using the room phone I did not get the tone. I realized that the phone was UNPLUGGED. I plugged it and had to wait for it to recharge. There were no instructions anywhere in the room, including on the phone itself, on how to contact the front desk or housekeeping.|I made a call from my phone on the general hotel number and requested the service.|Since it was after 7 pm, the only thing I could have was some fresh towels. |Next morning I stopped by the front desk and REQUESTED the housekeeping service since I needed them to empty the garbage pails in the room as well as fresh towels. When I returned in the late afternoon I found out that nobody entered my room and nothing was done. Next morning everything was repeated. I requested housekeeping, the front desk person promised to place an order and by the end of the day when I returned to my room it was exactly the same as I left it in the morning. Nothing was done since nobody entered it. The same thing happened all 4 nights that I was in this hotel. It is unacceptable. I had to take out the garbage from my room and stopped at front desk every night to request cups and Keurig coffee pods for coffee machine and fresh towels.|This hotel advertise "dinner" served until 9 pm. I stopped by at 8:30 pm on my first night and the only thing available was a pizza pie 16". I had to take it since it was too late to look for another place. This is just a bar with some questionable finger food choices at the beginning of the evening and nothing if you come late at night.

This hotel is really not in a very convenient location for driving, and the room key cards are a big problem! Every single time my husband and I went out and came back, the key cards wouldn’t work. We had to go to the front desk twice to fix them. The girl on the night shift told us it was because we kept the cards too close to our phones — but that’s not true! They simply wouldn’t work every time. Even when my husband just went downstairs for a quick smoke, the card stopped working again when he came back. I always had to open the door from inside. I reported this issue, but the hotel didn’t take any action — they just blamed us. Later that night, we heard our neighbors having the exact same problem with their key cards, so clearly it wasn’t just us! On top of that, the hair dryer was broken, the toilet didn’t work properly, and we had to listen to flushing noises for two nights straight. Overall, it was a very unpleasant stay.

Yelp
This pool!!! We used ResortPass to book a pool day for our anniversary at the Sonesta in "Lower SouthEnd" (I put it in quotes because it is really not in SouthEnd at all - it's behind Costco way down South Blvd.) - but we didn't care about the location at all, just the pool, and it did not disappoint! The best part was how cold the water was (sounds like a weird thing to love, but it was 100 degrees out and we were looking for a getaway, so this was perfect). I also love the fact that they have both an indoor and an outdoor pool. The chairs were comfortable, the umbrellas gave nice shade and the complimentary towels are helpful! The pool bar was nice too (though apparently they were understaffed at their indoor bar, so the bartender was only out there from about 2-4pm, but that aligned with our timing there well so we didn't mind - but could tell it was definitely upsetting to some other guests who arrived just as he was closing up shop 4-5 hours early). All in all, we loved coming here and were thankful that it was reasonably priced for a daycation - already can't wait to come back!

Yelp
I'm not sure if I'd stay here again but it wasn't a bad hotel. The hotel itself is nice on the outside, no garbage around the parking lot. The lobby is nice with a Starbucks inside. The rooms are small and clean but very modest. There are no microwaves, it probably said that in the listing but they are so common that I didn't even look for that. Tv with the guide listing is frustrating for those of us that only stream from apps nowadays. It took a bit for the room to heat up but was nice and stayed warm once it did. I wanted to take a bath and look for hotels with tubs but it doesn't help if the tub doesn't have a stopper, it had been removed. Good hotel for the price.

Yelp
Amazing staff and location for a stay in Philly. Had a great view from my room. The hotel has a good bar and excellent coffee bar. The bed was comfy and room spacious. The only negative was the AC didn't cool very well. The maid service was accommodating and very friendly, not like most hotels. Excellent experience!!

Yelp
my boyfriend and I stayed here for my birthday weekend recently and I will say I wasn't 100% satisfied with our experience. I want to start off by saying I was was pretty satisfied with the customer service. I really like the location of this hotel. You're close/nearby the downtown area but not in the midst of the chaos of the city (which is our preference) You are accessible to many restaurants, shopping centers, grocery stores, etc. Which is overall why i'm giving them 2 stars & not 1. When you walk into the lobby it is very modern, beautiful, & presents to be clean (which is ironic to what the rest of my review will say) Here's the biggest feedback I have! I first want to say that I respect and honor cleaning staff in hotels because they have a lot of rooms to turn around in a short amount of time. I don't ever expect my hotel room to be 100% perfect/spotless. However, there were some things that I believe management should be more attentive to. Our room had a number of dead lady bugs behind the curtains (one under the bed), damaged furniture, and a rat trap behind the TV. I discovered said rat trap (behind the TV) on our way out- had I noticed it in the beginning of the weekend, I would've requested a new room. Sure lady bugs are harmless and am not carry diseases as other bug, however, it is still the simple fact that there were a number of bugs that entered the space and it was not attempted to. Based off the discoloration of the lady bugs, you can tell it's been sitting there for a while. As far as the rat trap, I work in Facilities and Operations & I know issues may arise. I also believe Health & Safety should be a priority for a facility especially when someone is staying overnight. If there is a rat issue in the facilities (maybe just that room) then I believe they should've taken that room offline until it was rectified. Overall, I hope these issues are cured prior to anyone else staying in that specific room (311).

Yelp
I got a really good price on priceline and this was the hotel chosen. Not disappointed at all. Quick check in process with amazing employees. We received our parking pass at no additional cost. The lobby was very pretty. I did read a few reviews complaining about the freeway noise. We did not experience this as we were facing the freeway. Smelled clean and looked clean! Breakfast is not included but you can buy breakfast a la cart so we skipped it.

Yelp
BED BUGS!! My wife and children are COVERED in bites from head to toe. It's absolutely sickening to imagine them crawling all over us while we slept. It took 8 hours for the Manager to return my call and there was not even an apology. Avoid this place. I am disgusted and betrayed by this hotel.

Yelp
I stayed here with an American Airlines voucher after a delayed flight. The front desk staff seemed a bit annoyed at check-in. Check-out staff was very friendly. The bath/shower & drain in my room were completely broken. I didn't have time to complain as I had an AM flight to catch. Starbucks was tasty, but pricier than a "real" location...I only ate there because they accepted my airline vouchers. I heard them quote a customer 138+ plus tax...for that price, you would think they have continental breakfast ..or at least working plumbing!

Yelp
I recently spent a week at this hotel, 4 days for a convention and 3 additional time to tour Charlotte. I felt the space provided was a good fit. We had an arrangement for 4 meals plus 3 breakfasts. The meals covered needs and satisfied vegetarian and gluten-free requirements, though some felt the snacks/additional foods the hotel was contracted to supply were a little chintzy. The hotel staff were a pleasure with whom to work and chat. But it is an older hotel under a newer brand, and the bottom line is to remain profitable, so sometimes there are compromises. The restaurant area of the hotel and bar was closed a few times due to lack of delivered food or staffing. The lobby is actually on the 3rd floor, with 2 lower levels, and rooms on the 1st floor had sliding glass doors to the outside, something I would never want for a stay. The 1st floor had a heated pool which I don't recall seeing being cleaned. There were 2 exercise rooms, one with weights, missing the 10 pound weights, a weight I would expect many to want. You'll see shuttles in the parking lot, but you can't use them. They have a contract exclusively for airline staff. Womp Womp. My own room showed wear and tear. The shower handle, which you turn counter-clockwise from noon, was loose, and the handle would not stay at the "2pm" setting where warm water would come out. The outlets in the room were not in convenient places, which was especially annoying trying to use a laptop at the workstation/desk. The rooms were not very soundproof, and a significant amount of light came under the door at night. You did not get a dresser, just 2 drawers in each nightstand, and a couple more in the credenza under the television. Individuals with mobility issues who drove here may find getting from the parking lot into the hotel to be challenging. There's no problem right at the door, but the parking lot is somewhat tiered, and you either have to walk to either side or down a flight of steps. My stay here was not horrible, but I had been hoping for better.

Yelp
My SCE was different from the review seen online. First, I was the only one charged a deposit fee of $50. SCE check-in was quick. James and the other young man were professional to everyone I saw them encounter. The room had plugs near the bed to charge your phone. In the cherry cabinet were a coffee maker and mini fridge. A microwave is in the lobby by the bar area if you need to heat anything. Lastly, the questionable areas are miles away from this establishment. I felt safe walking from my car to the hotel. The front of the parking lot has an electric port charger!

Elizabeth W.

Yelp
This is a video of our bed. I have never been so disgusted and traumatized in my life. At first it was the mini fridge that didn't work, toilet paper holder falling off the wall, sink in the bathroom that was clogged and wouldn't drain, shower not working properly- all of which I could over look. But when I got in bed and my feet immediately felt dirty, I pulled back the covers to find black hairs, bugs, and crumbs. I went downstairs to be told there was no manger on duty and my concerns could be address IN THE MORNING! My husband and I left to go stay somewhere else. Worst experience in all my years of traveling. If I could leave 0 stars, I would.

Yelp
This is our 2nd time utilizing this hotel and I'm honestly shocked at the low ratings. Now I did give it 4 stars only because I feel like the bathrooms can and should be upgraded because the showers look dingy but other than that the hotel itself looks very clean and the hotel staff is extremely nice and accommodating. Because this place is convenient for our stay whenever we're in Charlotte, I foresee us using them again. I would say before turning away because of the ratings, give them a try first. They have some good food places nearby and starbucks for my coffee lovers!

Yelp
I stayed here for two nights this week. I felt the hotel was solid - a clean, efficient option with a few things here and there that could be better. Customer service at the front desk was good. Lyric checked us in and was helpful & efficient. Otherwise, I felt folks were a little slow. One person was talking to their friend for 5-10 minutes before attending to my request. And it took around 20 min for an extra blanket we requested to arrive. The room itself was clean - I was nervous after seeing the reports of bugs and mold online, and I did a thorough check. I did not see anything and was happy to see the mattress had a bedbug protector as well. One of our outlets did not work (see picture). The hotel offers a gym. It includes an indoor pool and several elliptical, stationary bikes, and treadmills. I used the gym both days and was happy it was there as a resource. One thing to note is that one of the ellipticals has rust on it (see picture). Parking costs $12 overnight. Signs state this when you walk in, but it is not discussed when you book or when you check in, which is a little odd. I'm not sure why it's said to have four stars when you book. It's more like a 2.5-star hotel.

Yelp
This is an OK hotel pretty much midway between the airport and downtown Charlotte, but you have to know what you signed up for. Nice prices. No housekeeping while you stay, but they gladly supply anything you need. No free coffee in the morning but you can purchase a cup down in the restaurant and the coffee was good. They also have a buffet breakfast for $16 per available in the AM. No free toiletries in the bathroom other than a small single bar of soap. Free on-site parking comes with the room. Two pools, one indoor and one outdoor. TV has HBO and the like. Room we had was pretty used, but was clean. Nice showers and loads of hot water. Front desk staff was helpful and engaging. Our room was only ok ... one light bulb didn't work, most electronics were unplugged but fired right up as we plugged them in.
google avatar

Tarsha J.

Yelp
Giving a 3 star only because the ladies at the front desk were really nice. The pictures don't lie. it looked exactly as expected. My issue was this-- I knew there may be an incidental charge in case mess something up in the room and it was $50, but there was a $32 amenity fee for everything I wasn't even going to use in the 6 total hours I'd be there. on top of that we went to the bathroom in the lobby and there were Palmetto bugs in the bathroom that were so big that they looked like they'd been working out in the gym but I doubt it because they didn't look like they could afford the amenity fee. By the time we got to the room we were terrified to even lay down. We left our luggage in the car because we didn't want roaches getting in our stuff.
google avatar

Kevin R.

Yelp
The hotel is okay at best. The room was very disappointing especially due to the price point. While the pictures show balconies, only the upper floors actually have balconies. The lobby was the nicest part of the hotel, with the inside pool being the saving grace. The hotel is close to a circle k gas station and a variety of restaurants which is always a plus. This was the closet "nice" hotel to Carowinds.

Yelp
This is my go to Hotel when I'm in Charlotte for work. The staff is super friendly, the lobby is amazing, the rooms are a good size with great amenities (fridge, shower, bed) and you can get there taking some back roads if needed (although during rush hour, those clog up too). The parking lot is awkward if you don't get in the first section. There are stairs involved so if you have a rolling suitcase, be prepared to pick it up and carry it. It's well laid out though so most parking spots are fairly close to the front door. They do have a bar with drink specials and a Starbucks to get your morning coffee on the way out the door. Great hotel with a great location (for me anyway). I'll surely stay here again when I return.

Yelp
The staff were very friendly. Came for a work banquet and the food was good and the accommodations were nice.

Yelp
I travel often for work and stay at this hotel while in Charlotte. It is airport friendly and a good value. The rooms are always clean. The front desk staff is welcoming. The bartender Kenyatta is very engaging and the breakfast waitress Asia was super attentive. I will definitely be back soon.
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
My company booked this hotel for me for my training visit. The reason for the 5 stars, is because of the service alone. Every staff member I encountered went above and beyond to make my stay delightful as possible. Even though we had a power outage on my second day, (not the fault of the hotel) it was a grid outage, they still went out of their way to do what they could during those hours. I had great drinks from a GREAT bartender named Jaime, who always had a smile on her face. I actually had a great shrimp wrap from the hotel restaurant as well. The location isn't ideal, but I soon found out the whole area is really odd in getting around that area. The only thing I didn't like was the huge gap underneath my door. I got creep out about that.
google avatar

Morgan S.

Yelp
I've stayed at this hotel multiple times and I always stay here when I visit Charlotte. It's always clean and I do believe the housekeeping staff works hard to keep it extra clean and sanitary during these times. The only thing that I do dislike about the area-not the hotel- is the amount of panhandlers. Just off the road(not around the hotel) when you drive off into the highway, there are always people begging for money. I normally don't have an issue with that, but multiples times I have been harassed by men yelling for money and banging on my car. As a solo woman traveler this can be a little scary. Again this did not happen at the hotel. The hotel area is very safe. The hotel staff is also very friendly. Sadly, this hotel will not be IHG in December, which is a reason why I stay there.

Yelp
Stayed here Three days upon arrival they charge 150 Incidentals. Arrived at room there's a empty water bottle on side of dresser and beer bottle caps on floor by the chair this tells me the room is not clean now the bathroom toilet when you flush it it makes a noise like it's about to blow up I told the front desk about the problem but no service on it no Refrigerator or microwave and request Refrigerator no room service as far as getting your room clean request your towels and they give you clean sheets we have to clean your room yourself never again will I stay here

Yvonne P.

Yelp
I real enjoyed my stay here. The hotel and my room was very clean. On the outside the hotel doesn't look ritzy but once your inside, you can see where they spend their money. There were a few restaurants near by (Japanese hibachi, Starbucks, Applebees, and a seafood place) which made it convenient. The staff during our visit were very nice and helpful. I did not like the fact I had to pay $12 for parking each day. Hotels in general will find anyway to increase their profit. The breakfast was sooooo good but I had to pay $17 for the buffet. Pricey but I was hungry so I paid it. With the exception of the addition cost I incurred, it was a nice place to stay.

Marie S.

Yelp
I attend a conference lunch on July 18, 2023. The ballroom was lovely and perfect for the awards ceremony. I chose the Vegetable Lasagne as my entree. It was excellent.

Yelp
I stayed here for two nights on the 14th floor. Even though my room was next to the elevator, there was a separate room where people can filter on/off the elevators so the noise wasn't too problematic. Getting checked in was smooth and easy, there is also ample parking. The beds were comfortable, and the AC was really cold which I loved. The people who work at the front desk are incredibly friendly and helpful. The hardware in the bathroom and the quality of the fridges and microwaves were great too. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the TV in our room didn't work (not that we came to Charlotte to watch TV anyway) and when I was in the bathroom I noticed a clump of eyelashes from eyelash extensions on the floor. This grossed me out. I think they'll just have to be more mindful of their cleaning after that, especially because many people are on edge after COVID. Nonetheless, I would definitely stay here again.

Charles B.

Yelp
bad hotel ! AC filthy. Wasps in room. Refused to clean room after multiple requests. Security cameras in parking lot indicating crime problem in area. Grounds unkept and littered with trash. "Community microwave located at ice machine broken. This hotel is not long for this world, stay away !

Yelp
Good Day, My wife and I live in Raleigh, NC, and took a day trip to Charlotte, NC, and stayed at the Sonesta Charlotte Executive Park Hotel from Thursday, 12/29/22 to 12/30/22. We stayed in room 1507, on the 15th floor. We will never, ever set foot into this hotel again. This hotel is old, and musty, perhaps built in the 1970's (?) . We turned on the heater, and adjusted the temperature to 72 degrees. Every time the heater turned on, it made a sound similar to a door closing. It was very disruptive. But this was just the beginning of our nightmare. For some odd reason, we also observed a hole in the carpet near the front door, and a wet spot in front of the refrigerator, as though someone spilled a cup of water. The most disruptive part of our evening was the car noise from Interstate 77. Our room faced the freeway with single pane windows. It was impossible to sleep!!! Even though we were on the 15th floor, you would have thought we were sleeping under a ramp overpass. We could hear every car, truck, and motorcycle speeding up and down the freeway. We were miserable!!

Stefhani Y.

Yelp
The walls and doors of the rooms and lobby were dirty to start off. The hotel wasn't that great. They charge you 50$ for a deposit and don't tell you that 20$ goes to a parking fee! I didn't find this out until after my stay. It takes almost a month to get the remaining back. The parking was packed and I had to park all the way in the back where it's dark just to park, so paying 20$ is ridiculous. The front desk says it's in the "fine print" of the fees which is also absurd! i wasn't pleased with this hotel and will not be returning.

Barbara R.

Yelp
Sonesta charges what they call a "Destination charge " of $32.00 per day plus tax. I booked four days, so if you do the math, it came an additional $129.08, which Priceline neglected to mention. I'm of the impression that I prepaid for my four nights, and when I get there, I'm told of this B.S. Destination charge. I have only heard of this charge with purchasing a new car. I think it's totally deceptive, and you're made aware of this crap until you check in. WILL NEVER STAY THERE AGAIN!!! Not to mention the mold and mildew in the room and ladybug infestation. Horrible experience.

Yelp
Dirty!!! I would of only gave them 1 star but they were nice enough to refund me for the 2nd night I had book. Granted I was in one of their "pet rooms" but this hotel was filthy. So dusty my nose ran constantly. Stains on the sheets, walls, and chaise lounge. Small black hair in the shower. I would of asked you for another room but this was ALREADY the 2nd one cuz the first was the same and I complained. Was exhausted from driving I had to sleep somewhere. Though my car probably would of been a better choice to say the least. The front staff was very friendly, accommodating, and apologetic! I feel badly they have to sell those rooms. The lobby was nice and remodeled. Parking was great. Coffee in rooms. No safe in room. (Weird) I'd take an Airb&b's air mattress over this place.

Liz S.

Yelp
I recently had a very unpleasant stay at this location. Quality and Service were substandard. We reported that the temperature in our room was uncomfortably cold for the second night. Security came and confirmed that the thermostat was inoperable. After waiting an hour, we called again to ask for a remedy. They advised us that maintenance would not be in until the next day. The front desk sent a Mattress cover(see photo) and a thin blanket when we requested extra blankets/comforters. We had to use our overcoats as blankets. On one occasion, we asked for clean towels and had to go to the front desk because the towels were not delivered. The room was not serviced during our stay, and we had to keep requesting services, including bath tissue. We had to check out early and stay at the nearby Hilton. The staff made no effort to rectify the situation.

I attend a wedding here and the ball roo was exquisite. The wait staff was phenomenal. Service truly makes a difference and they delivered. I enjoyed myself thoroughly. I don't know if the food was made by Crowne Plaza but it was delicious. The salmon stuffed with crab meat simply splendid!!

Yelp
Crooked Hotel. Our flight was canceled at 10:30pm and we were placed in this hotel. The night we checked in, the customer service and hotel was great. They said they'd give us a wake up call at 4:30am and we reserved a spot on the 5am shuttle to the airport. Morning of, the wake up call didn't happen (not a big deal) and we learned the shuttle is only for airline employees. But to make it worse, Darrell the shuttle driver is accepting bribes of $20 to allow non-airline employees to go to the airport. Darrel the shuttle driver, the bribe taker, mouthed off to me and my fiancé and is trying to start crap at 5am. Sincerely, screw this place.

Yelp
I can't say this would be my 1st choice since I'm a Marriott fan but it wasn't bad. Pros: Pretty lobby Nice staff Airport shuttle that runs every 30 min 24/7 Cons: Toenails on the bathroom floor got stuck to my socks (eww!) Sheets wreak of bleach No staff in the middle of the night when you simply want to pay for a water at the desk (waited 10 min while yelling hello) Phone I room didn't work posing issues on getting my wake up call Room pretty worn needing some minor updates

Yelp
My first time at this hotel and it was great! Really pretty decorations when you walk into the lobby. Nice trees outside. Next time I'm going to bring workout gear and take a nice walk. Room was clean and hotel staff was friendly. One thing I didn't like was that the shuttle driver was a few minutes late. I'm a very on time person. When they say shuttle leaves at 1pm I expect that's everyone is packed in the van and we are on our way at one not the shuttle is pulling up at one. He pulled up after the scheduled time. So eh on that but hopefully next rime it's on time.

Yelp
I am absolutely horrified! This hotel is FILTHY. The entire hospitality staff needs a major overhaul. We arrived exhausted after a 12 hour drive and all we wanted was a clean room to rest. Kate at check in was super nice and helpful. However we arrived to our room 1002 to see it was not cleaned. Bed not made, dirty towels everywhere. Went back down and she apologized saying it's a housekeeping error. She gave us room 1005, so we go to this room and the toilet is filthy with someone's waste on the toilet bowl and seat. Went back down and Kate offered a heartfelt apology and had the housekeeping manager Patrice inspect room 1905 and take us there herself. Immediately walking in I see a hair on the wall, black dots all in the toilet bowl, trash on the floor, and the room smells of cigarette smoke. Patrice clearly could care less. We told her the cleaning was unacceptable so she offered to clean the toilet herself. At this point we were so exhausted and have 2 dogs plus all our stuff we are lugging up and down the elevator, so we accepted but we are so absolutely disgusted. In all my years of traveling I've never ever seen such incompetent housekeeping at any hotel. The funny part is another guest overheard me and told us don't go to the bathroom in the lobby because all the stalls have dirty toilets. It's unacceptable to have such a fancy lobby and then the rooms are all gross, stains on carpets, dirt on the walls and curtains- they clearly don't even try very hard. I will never stay at a sonesta again. Avoid at all costs!

Yelp
To tell u the truth I didn't see much of this hotel other than the room. The corona thing has much of it shut down and we've spent big days filming so we have been tuckered out Folks are nice Bed is good Troy

Yelp
I originally gave this hotel a positive review. However, since my stay, the hotel charged $32 for a resort fee. I was never told I would be charged this fee, and I never authorized it. I booked through Hotels.com and was charged for the room through Hotels.com. I only gave my card to Soneata for a $50 hold for incidentals. I was never told of the resort fee and I never signed for it. When I called the hotel to inquire, I was informed that Hotels.com states the fee on their site. The fee should have been withdrawn from Hotels.com then, so that the charges were clear on the statement. Again, I never authorized Sonesta to charge my card. It is a very shady business practice to hide the fee in the $50 hold for incidentals. In addition, the front desk manager was rude when I called to inquire about the unauthorized charge. I was told to hold on, and then forwarded to another line where the phone rang and rang for 8 minutes before I hung up. I don't mind paying resort fees, but I do mind dealing with a business who doesn't inform guests of fees and basically steals money from customers who have already paid $165 for a 1 night stay. We weren't even there for 12 hours. Shady and very disappointing.

Yelp
Cranky and tired after a delayed flight from the DR, I just barely made it in time to get a sandwich in the restaurant before closing. I didn't expect much as this is a business hotel, it was very late and I was the only diner. I fully expected an unhappy server but instead I got great, even enthusiastic service and a superb veggie wrap with the best fries I've ever eaten. So, props to the restaurant staff! The next day I had to wait all day to get a flight back to the west coast because the storms had cancelled a bunch of flights. I have never done it before but I literally sat in their bar for hours just killing time until my flight. The staff was downright entertaining and so kind. They have clearly been trained to take "hospitality" seriously. If you get there please say "hey" to Stacia and Jessenia at the bar in the lobby for me! They made a very long day quite pleasant. Otherwise, the desk personnel were friendly, considerate, and very understanding of my crankiness. My room was lovely, comfortable and clean. Every amenity was available and even if my bag had gone on ahead of me, I would have survived the night nicely. But, really, travel is about the people. This hotel has someone in charge who knows this. Their staff is excellent. Southern Comfort at its finest.

Yelp
Paid 5 star money for 2 star hotel. First impression was it smelled like cigarettes smoke covered by cheap air freshener. We stayed 4 days and three nights. Never once did we receive fresh linen nor towels. When we kept complaining we were told we get room services after 5 day stay. On our check out day room services burst in saying they were there to clean.

Yelp
A bit dated to my tastes. It is in dire need of a renovation. My room had lights that did not work and everything just seemed old and dirty. Unfortunately, my company has a corporate rate so I cannot avoid this hotel.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place. Everything was great, the location, the room, the view, the surrounding restaurants that were close within walking distance. I will definitely be making future reservations here when we come back to Charlotte, NC. Chili's and Sonny's Bar Bq are less than 1/4 mile away! Chili's is perfect for a night out of drinking and a good dinner, no Uber required ;)

Yelp
I stayed here for 6 nights for an onsite meeting. First and foremost I have to give 10 stars to the meetings and events team. This crew hustles and stays a step ahead of guests. If you are planning a meeting of any sort - this is the spot! Such service professionals!!! My room - well appointed, overlooked the freeway and everything worked. I wish maid service had come through a little earlier in the day and had replenished my in-room coffee. Easy location, good food, good lobby bar, excellent service, comfortable rooms. Really excellent place for meetings, events and business

Yelp
They have a amazing chicken on restaurant, clean hotel and really polite and lovely staff, giving 4 stars just because I think the rooms are way too small and the view from my room wasn't the best, it was turned for the road and kind of noisy

Yelp
I was originally planning to drive here for Empire City Con and sleep in the car but my car's fuel pump broke and I had to replace it. I didn't wanna risk another car issue while on the road so I took a plane instead and booked a room. The rooms are very nice but that's just a little bit of the discussion. The rooms the convention took place in are nice and spacious and look amazing, the pool looks great (wish I brought my swimsuit), I pumped major iron at the GYM, everything was nice and clean and the snack bar looked nice (I just walked to a gas station down the road to save a few cents but at least they provided it as an option). 2 minor gripes are that the Showers are WAY too hot and the food at the bar tastes kinda funny (it tastes like they replace my cheese burger's ketchup with cinnamon).

Yelp
Crown Plazas are the top end of IHG's line of brands so I'm always pleased when I can stay at one at a decent rate. That was true here. I had a great time during my stay and everything was fine as expected for a high-end property. HERE'S THE DEAL. This hotel was formally a Marriott and changed to Crowne Plaza in June of 2013. They are getting ready to start a multi-million dollar remodel. My stay was before it started. IF YOU ARE CONTEMPLATING STAYING HERE, I'D GIVE THEM A CALL AND FIND OUT THE STATUS OF THE REMODEL BEFORE YOU COMMIT. YOU MAY GET A GREAT RATE BUT FIND YOURSELF IN THE MIDDLE OF A CONSTRUCTION MESS! I love Crowne Plazas so I'll be checking myself and can't wait to see the end result.

Yelp
Absolute worst experience of my life in a hotel. Frequent traveler for business and personal all over the world. Paid $200 for a room with it being worth about $50. Phone in room did not work. When I called from cell phone to desk they told me it wasn't charged. Well, it didn't work the next morning either. I asked about room service. Didn't have any. Only could order from bar but not from the room. No check out info nor any info at all in the room. No binder. No sheet. No laminated info. Nothing. I told the front desk I was sober four years and would be difficult to go to bar to eat. They said that was the only option. Asked about Door Dash. Yes but they would not bring it to my room nor would Door Dash be allowed to. Ordered door dash asked them to leave at front desk. Never heard from front desk when order arrived. When I went down for my food, I couldn't find it. It was in some random spot in the lobby with my name misspelled, no room number, nothing. The room itself - a suite - was disgusting. smelled like dirty feet and the rug was damp. i had to wear shoes the entire time i was in there. all night i heard tapping, banging and knocking and barely slept. phone never worked and complaints not attended to in any way. do not stay here. there are plenty of other same-priced hotels in beautiful city of Charlotte where you will be treated with Southern hospitality and kindness as the city is known for.

Yelp
Came into town for a family meeting. Wanted to check out the hotel so I also stayed a night. The hotel, (Christine -events manager) accommodated our needs, and have been great to work with thus far. We were also listed on their rotating itinerary, displayed on TV screens In the hotel. There was a lot going on, 2 large weddings taking place here this weekend, so I'm assuming Crowne Plaza is sought out for events. We received a tour of the hotel, and I didn't walk away with any cons in holding our future event here. When it came to my room, I was on the top floor and my balcony offered a view of downtown Charlotte in the distance. I could also see the Bentley/Maserati/Rolls Royce/etc dealership below. I stopped by but that's another story. The room was clean. I didn't have any gripes at all. The young lady at the reception desk had a welcoming aura about her. Everybody on staff seemed to be upbeat. I had a little bit of free time, so I went to the gym. While the space was small, it didn't bother me as I was the only one in at the time. The weight area and cardio area are in two separate rooms. The treadmill, bikes, and ellipticals all have TV screens. That'll keep you working out. Also visited the bar, twice. The bartender was great. I didn't get his name and don't want to fumble his ethnicity. Cool guy, if he's there during the family reunion I'll definitely sit in for a drink or 2. Drinks are reasonably priced, as I expected them to be a bit higher. I was later joined by a friend and she liked the drinks and food a lot. I didn't do breakfast but family that stayed the night before mentioned it was good and filling. Didn't sound like your run of the mill breakfast buffet you get at most hotels. I don't see any reason why I wouldn't stay here when in town.

Yelp
I had to make a quick reservation since when my stay at the time was just terrible and disappointing(look at my review on Uptown Suites Concord) . When I called to see if could check in early explaining my terrible situation and Ivey (the young lady working at the desk at the time) was very friendly and let me know they did have room for me and I was able to check in ASAP. She was soo friendly and sweet it really just turned my whole day around. The room is perfect just like the pictures and all the hotel staff is super friendly. And they had no problem with my sweet darling pit staying with me.

Yelp
We stayed before and had a very nice experience but this time even better. I arrived feeling very sick, unfortunately, and they checked me in early, and very quickly. Thomas at the front desk even brought me something to drink and was incredibility considerate and helpful. This was great, it's a bit scary to be so sick and alone in a strange city, away from home. The rooms are clean, spacious and comfy. Excellent bed. Highly recommend!
