Quint laid back cash only place, serving up delicious cheesesteaks and hoagies. We got 2 cheesesteaks with onions. 1 had Cheddar cheese and the other provolone. We also ordered 4 Italians to go. The staff is super friendly and everyone has a great attitude. Thank you for a great lunch. We will definitely be stopping back again.

Ordered for the 1st time the other day through Uber eats after the seeing the high star rating and the high google reviews rating, very affordable, they give you a lot of meat & I loved the subs. This will be my new go to place . My only Critique is adding more seasoning to the meat and instead of using canned mushrooms, use fresh . But it still was delicious . Update: I ordered 2 more subs today 2/25/25 through Uber eats, this time I asked for extra seasoning on the meat, without mushrooms this time. They did not disappoint! Glad I found me a new place ❤️

I haven't been in almost 15 years and I was pleasantly surprised at the great food and really friendly staff. We had a chicken parm hoagie and a steak with onions hoagie both with extra cheese.

Best Philly cheesesteak in the area. They make their own rolls which are pretty good and hold up well. Made on the flat top, cheese mixed in on the flat top. They have hot cherry peppers and sauce. Great service. Cash only but there's an ATM in the barbershop next door. Enjoy1

I give it 2 stars, but if I could I'd give it 2.5 stars, the cheesesteak was way too juicy with fat juices, it made the roll split in half. If you're from Philly you should be using a good roll that can handle your sandwich! It wasn't that great, I am from Philly & these cheese steaks suck compared to a real Philly! I would rather go to Sub Center, they have a great roll & they have great Philly's!!

Everyone seemed happy to be having lunch at this place so the atmosphere was good and it had good vibes to it. I ordered the steak hoagie and it was delicious and the meat 🥩 had this superb fresh beet taste to it and it had had the right amount of apices & salt to it. The pickled red peppers 🌶️ were delicious too. My only big mistake was that I picked the cheddar cheese to be put on top of it. I was hoping to see a couple of good tasting cheddar cheese slices on top of it. Instead it was that canned melted yellow cheese you buy at your local grocery store. I felt like I was putting cheap 87 octane gasoline on a Ferrari or Bugatti 😁 That is just my point of view, if the tradition is to use that canned yellow cheese then so be it but definitely I will never ever again order cheddar cheese on my steak hoagie 😁😄😄. Great place, even Guy Fieri has visited the place. I would definitely recommend and come back to this place but no cheddar cheese 🧀 for my steak hoagie please 😂

Sonny's steak and hoagies is a little hard to find. I have been living in Hollywood and Hallandale for 26 years and only just now did I find it and stop To eat there. I had the steak hoagie with mushrooms and mozzarella cheese. It was very tasty. My only complaint is that the mozzarella is inside the bread rather on the top of the sandwich with the mushrooms. They are a fixture in Hollywood since 1958 and it was busy for lunch. Price is right as you can see in the menu. When I'm in the mood for this I will go back. One more thing. Cash only establishment .

I've been coming here for the longest and as always the food mainly order their hogies steak and cheese my favorite but they have quite a variety and believe me they are delicious one of my favorites. Service is always good very fast paced but always with a smile and and friendliness. Very busy as they have been around so they have high clientele in and out. Ample sitting area as well as parking. Very nicely decorated old school vibe. If you have not tried them give them a try you won't regret.

First time picking up food from this place. We ordered a #9, a #90.. both with cheddar cheese sauce. Delicious! We also ordered a pizza for our kid and she enjoyed it. The garlic bread is on point, the fresh garlic that's used makes all the difference. Would recommend and will visit again. Just remember it's cash only!

We have had Sonny's on our radar for some time and we finally made it there for lunch. When we pulled up, the entry doesn't look like there will be a restaurant behind the door. The restaurant is very unassuming. They don't take credit cards. They make what the make. They make all the bread fresh in house. There are chips or salad as a side. There are tasty cakes for dessert. We walked in and took a seat. My husband forgot his glasses and our server gave him a rundown of the menu. She could tell we were first timers. My husband got a #90 - basically Cheese Steak with provolone and he added mushrooms and peppers. She asked if he wanted some sauce and told him he should get it on the side to make sure he'd like it. He also had a salad with Italian dressing. It was not extravagant but it was super fresh and he enjoyed it. I had the tuna with provolone. It was loaded. The tuna was great and had just the right amount of mayo. It was so loaded with tuna that I could only eat 1/2. I opted for some lays chips as a side. My sandwich came with peppers and our server brought those to my husband to add to his salad. It was the perfect add for him. All in all, pricing was reasonable. The parking lot is a little weird. Service was amazing. You can tell there are a lot of regulars, but we didn't feel like we were treated differently. We can't wait to return.

Picked up four "Hogies" last night for take out. The gals Working we're so nice and provided quick service. It's cash only!!! We gave our order and ten minutes later we had our freshly steak Hogies ready to go with sides (marinara and hot peppers). The steak hoagie was pretty good - not the best I've ever had but still really, really good. I'm from south Jersey so had Philly cheesesteaks frequently growing up and these are pretty close - the closest I've had in south Florida!!!

Sonny's Famous Steak Hogies 1857 N 66th Ave Hollywood, FL 33024 So being from South Philly I love cheese steaks and am always on the look out to try a good one . Since living in South Florida for 2 and a half years I haven't found any that I truly enjoyed , none that tasted like home to me . Even the one that is mentioned quite frequently. I guess I've come to realize that if I want a Philly Cheesesteak I need to go to Philly , that being said I made it to Sonny's and had a steak hoagie with provolone cheese and raw onions with a side of cherry peppers. (They were sliced peppers ) I like to eat them whole . Sonny's has a great sandwich, meat was delish , cheese, onions , homemade bread ,peppers everything on point just not a Philly cheesesteak but no one said it was . Nor does it claim to be anywhere inside the restaurant. Just me jumping to conclusions. To be in business since 1958 in the same family stands for something and I will definitely be back for another sandwich or two . Service was caring,friendly a nice addition to my meal . Absolutely delicious! The food was served piping hot and quickly. Service was friendly and prompt. I was more surprised that the restaurant was practically empty when we arrived. They keep the place tidy which is appreciated because no one wants to dine at a dirty establishment. The menu is simple and only has a handful of items - for two of us both getting sandwiches and drinks plus tip was around $30. We will definitely be returning next time we are in the area. Oh! We didn't realize until pulling up that they're cash only. This required us to go run to an ATM and then head back so FYI - bring cash!

Sonny's has some really good steak hoagies and what makes them good is the fresh, made in house delicious bread. It's slightly crusty on the outside and nice and soft on the inside. It doesn't get soggy from the huge amount of steak they put on it. My favorite is the steak with fried onions and cheese sauce. You can also get your steak hoagie with provolone cheese, American cheese, tomato sauce, mushrooms, and green peppers. In addition to steak hoagies you can get chicken hoagies, meatball hoagies, tuna hoagies and cold cuts hoagies. They also have salads, pizza and pasta. My only complaint is that they use canned mushrooms. The restaurant is not very big and the times I've been there it is always been spotless. You order at the counter then wait for your food to be ready but it's never a long wait. It does get super crowded at lunch time. Valerie who is one of the workers there is just the sweetest and the rest of the staff is always very pleasant also. I've heard some people say that it's not really like a cheesesteak you'd get in Philly but sometimes you have to be happy with what you can get! **Cash only **

How have I considered myself born and raised in Broward without ever having Sonny's?! I give you permission to judge me but I'm happy to share that is no longer the case. Thanks to the hubby for sharing this gem. Open and operating for over 70 years and it all makes sense . The grill is open concept and the first thing you see when walking in. You can either order to go at the counter or have a seat and dine in. We dined in and enjoyed the service and homey-ness feel. With it being my first time I ordered a steak hogie with and without sauce. Before that day I had no idea my steak hogies needed red sauce on them and I haven't been the same since. The meatball sub was okay. But the bread and steak hogies themselves made up for it. I'll be back. And I promise not to take so long to visit next time. Don't walk.. run.

Checked this place out on my lunch break and I'm so glad I did. I took the recommendation from the person working there she suggested I get #9 the steak hoagie. I came in with my co workers and we were greeted and welcomed. They even offered us chocolate after. The service alone had me very pleased. I devoured this sandwhich it was probably one of the best cheesesteaks I've had. The bread was soft the steak was flavorful and great with the cheese. I added hot peppers to mine and they added the extra kick I needed. Reminder this place only accepts cash. I def had to go to cvs to get cash back to make my purchase but it was definitely worth it. Looking forward to coming back and trying some of their other sandwiches.

I just can't believe I had never eaten here before, considering I worked near there for years. The place looks great inside, "well maintained,"and the service was incredibly good. I forgot my gasses, so I was having a difficult time reading the menu. Our server stepped up to the plate and helped me out. She helped me to decide and pick my options. I went for a #90 with mushrooms, peppers, cheese, and side of sauce. I got it with the sauce on the side because I wasn't sure if I was going to like it with sauce. Well, guess what? I thought it was good without the sauce, but it was even better with the sauce. It took it to another level. I also got a salad. It was pretty basic, but everything in it was very fresh. My wife got a side of hot cherry peppers with her sandwich that I added to my salad. Mmm, good. Now my wife she had tuna salad and she really enjoyed it. Other than it cash only, I wish they had French fries. I think that was the only thing I was missing. Now I can't wait to eat here again.

Best steak hogie around for sure. Locals say order cherry peppers and sauce on the side and add white American. The chipped ice for the drinks is a nice touch. I appreciate the seating area as many places like Sonny's make you take it out. Staff was pleasant. Make sure to bring cash.

Service is the issue. Very very small location. So you are close to each other. I'm a grown adult and using no adult language. The waitress, Susan, YELLED from across the restaurant that "can you stop cursing there are children present". 100% understand. My issue is you do NOT scream at a customer. She should've come directly to me and spoken like an adult to tell me. Not scream. For that reason, for my 1st amendment right to free speech, I will not be returning. Food- they were on Diners, Drive in and Dives in 2009. The food is AMAZING!!!!!! Best sandwich I have ever had in life.

To preempt I've never tried this place but I heard about it and heard good things from coworkers I went here once to apply for a job a while ago but that was about it it's a small place kinda cramped abit but I'm excited to taste some food today I'm gonna be ordering with DoorDash I'm gonna get the cheeseburger hogie looking at the menu wow the drinks are experience $3.44 cents jeez for the Hogies its $11.19 ok so the total is $16.96 jeeeeeez it's showing the standard time as 29-39 minutes which is a WOW I'm leaving 2.50 in tip so the total is $19.46 jeeeeez the order has been placed as of 12:14 now we just wait I'll keep you updated if anything happens my dasher is in the area now just waiting she's waiting for my order now as of 12:27 my driver is Niukra she's on the way as of 12:30 ETA is 12:34-12:37 IM EXCITED the food has arrived as of 12:33 it has arrived it's warm and smells very good like a nice onion smell it's in a foil bag around paper is kinda weird to get into but it's fine holy crap this thing is brimming and loaded tot he top with food wow it's cut in half yay trying the onions there very good cold and caramelized THE FIRST IS MMMM DELICIOUS THAT meat with the onions and lettuce and tomato blends in good like a burger especially with the bread too ahhhh it's making a mess it's greasy and tasty wow the cheese is very nice and creamy the bread isn't hard it's soft and the pickles give it that nice underbelly taste that's so good wow yeah that was pretty good I CANT FIT IT INTO THE BUN that ground beef is amazing wow nice smooth taste with the mayonnaise really softens it that was a amazing hogie so fresh the meat and vegetables perfect hogie I would get this again and again wow I really loved this I'm just gonna drink some water but jeez I'm already feeling full I feel like I can sleep for hours now lol overall I really loved this experience and would try it again and I suggest everyone to give it a try this was really amazing (This review was written fully in Chronological in chronological order of my full experience)

Wow, great food. Impressive that a place like this has been in business for so many decades. Friendly staff and owner is very helpful. Love that Miami has a place like this.

Once again posting a photo of my all time favorite Sony's steak and onions with cheese sandwich. I can't believe how full I got. I normally get a piece of bread on the side because their bread is awesome. If I had gotten my sometimes cold ham and cheese sandwich no side bread would be needed because I can taste the bread. When I get the steak hoagie I must have my extra piece or bread!! The service is awesome. The people their treat you family if you're a regular. I've been going there since I was little girl. The ambiance is nice and it's always clean and comfortable and me myself prefer watching my steak sandwiches get made. It's a show. Once I saw a hamburger hoagie being made and I was so confused. Do I want it the hamburger hoagie or the steak and cheese with lots of onions. Nope! My steak and cheese but that hamburger hoagie looked and smelled amazing. Maybe next time.

I can't believe I haven't written a post on this gem. They are the go to for the best of the best hoagies. I get the same thing every time because that's what it is. Great, every time. Steak, cheese and onions with the hot peppers on the side. And if you want a bonus, CHEEZE WIZ! Soda machine is with the best little ice, if you know you know. This place is super OG so cash only!

Everyone and their momma seems to love this place including my own momma, my hubby and Guy Fieri. This location as previously mentioned by EVERYONE is still cash only so make sure you come prepared. The cheesesteak sandwiches are always packed with meat (I'm personally not a fan since I don't like the steakumm smell/taste) . The service is pretty quick , but sometimes they do get packed so try to order ahead. Overall this is a very popular location and my family loves it so we will continue to go.

This is my go to when I want a good cheese detach hogie. They only take cash which makes it inconvenient but they are so worth it. You can also order ahead so it can be ready when you get there. This location has been featured in triple D a few times and you can see why.

We were watching Triple D while planning our spring break and Sonny's came on. It was the deciding factor in going to Hollywood, Florida. We couldn't decide between the meatball hoagie and the cheesesteak. So we decided to get one of each and split'em. My favorite was the cheesesteak, with mozzarella and onions. My daughter liked both. Great prices, fast friendly service, and just the right size, although I could have easily destroyed another cheesesteak. My daughter talked me out of it. The owner stopped and thanked us for coming in, it's no wonder they've been in business 60+ years.

Great place - came here on vacation. I saw it on DDD a while back and had it bookmarks. I got a #50 and added mushrooms and American cheese. I got my wife the same but added green peppers. We got the cheddar cheese sauce on the side. Sooooo good! This one comes with a tomato sauce on it. Not normally something I would order, but if this is their signature, I went for it. Great flavor, an abundance of everything. The only thing I would change is I would have put provolone on any sandwich with the sauce. It would just go together. (That is not a complaint of mine, just a thought.) The cheddar cheese sauce was amazing. It's like getting "Wiz" on a Philly - but Wiz on steroids. The staff was friendly and helpful, the food was great and served quickly. The place was busy and I am glad to see it that way! Great job! Worth the drive or Uber from the beach!

Amazing how fast this place has gone down hill- always the wrong orders- now cheap meat that is FULL of grease. Your dad is rolling in his grave... we will NEVER be back.

Last time I was here was during the height of the pandemic and you had to stay in your car and take your food to go. This time I met my girlfriend for dinner and we were able to sit inside. It was nice to see all of their history framed on the wall including a signed autograph from Guy Fieri who likes to eat here even when he is not filming his show. Sonny's is no frills and I just love it. Delicious authentic Philadelphia meaty cheesesteaks and you don't need anything else. And just in case you didn't come for the cheesesteaks, they also have pasta with homemade tomato sauce and salads. I paired my cheesesteak with a root root beer and it was summertime perfection. The bread is so good! Dessert is Tastykakes. This place is beloved as evidenced by being packed during a week night. If you haven't been yet, what are you waiting for?

Absolutely the worst steak hoagieI have ever had. Having been in the restaurant business myself, I'm always hesitant to give a bad review, BUT this is well earned. Your signature item should be exceptional. My sub was bland, unseasoned, covered in lukewarm, mushy conned mushrooms. It's just awful.

For sure this place is an institution. Today was my first time trying Sonny's after several recommendations. I ordered a #90 with provolone and an unsweet iced tea to go. The woman who answered the phone was super polite and the order was ready in a reasonable amount of time. I wish the woman had told me it was "cash only" but thanks to you all (fellow yelpers) I knew to bring cash. There wasn't even a sign that mentioned it. When I pulled up I noticed it was in a small strip shop with limited parking, and walking in to order or pick up food was tight. If you're eating in, it's the type of place to eat quick and vacate. No one said this, but it's so packed that I don't think I would take my crew to eat in. The man at the counter was inviting except he skipped me in the line (he called on the guy behind me- likely thought I was with someone else??). I picked up my order relatively quick and left. On to the food.. At first glance the sandwich appeared to be missing the cheese. It was under all the meat. It was filling and hot and was in desperate need of seasoning. This is to say there was no salt/pepper at all. Completely bland until I got an onion or a bite with cheese. The hoagie however, was the bun dreams are made of. It was perfect! A little crusty on the outside to hold it all together, and so soft like a pillow on the inside. I can't wait to have a different kind of sandwich on that bread! I will say that sections of the bun, on the bottom, were a little soggy but I could deal with a little as long as it's not all falling apart. My tea was great! Most places have the tea sit forever and it tastes like it. This was refreshing for sure! Will I come back?? Sure. I'll try something else. Is it Philly style? That's a matter for debate. This is more like miami subs but on a better hoagie.

This place is good good. Don't get it confused, this is not a Philly cheesesteak place. This is a steak sandwich place and they have damn good steak sandwiches. They have a variety of options and have been in the area for 50 years for a good reason. I always come here and order the #90 with mushrooms, provolone and tomorrow sauce with a side of peppers. This sandwich is 8 inches of straight deliciousness. Come far and wide to Sonny's! You won't regret it. They only take cash so bring your paper!

You have to try this place at least once! I've been going here for years. Great location, open until 8pm. Its a small mom and pop place where they make the food with love. I never sit down to eat; always call in to pick up. My food is always ready on time and always consistently delicious. I always get a #90 with mozzarella and mushrooms. Sometimes it's overstuffed but some would say that's a good problem. My boyfriend gets a few different choices, but he has liked every single thing he's tried on the menu. I don't usually drink soda but I always get a coke mostly because they have really good ice here lol Only downside is they ONLY accept cash, so make sure you get some cash before coming and paying for your meals! There's been times where I've wanted to order and pickup but realized I had no cash and didn't want to stop and get cash from somewhere.

I have been coming here my entire life. I am appalled that I never added a review here on Yelp. I'll upload some pictures next visit. Camera eats first, but that rule gets neglected when one of their delicious "hogies" gets set in front of you. They are known for their Philly cheese steak style Hogies. You order by number to indicate if you want onions or not and if you want tomato sauce or not. Mushrooms, green peppers, and cheese selections are an extra charge but necessary addition. They also offer famous meatball hogies, chicken parmigiana, sausage and hamburger hogies. All are good, but the steak is king and meatball in second for my personal opinion. These are all served on fresh, house made daily, crusty on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, rolls. The bread is delicious and really sets these sandwiches apart. Sonny's is an institution and has been here for over 60 years serving up fresh, high quality ingredients for fair prices. They have been featured on Guy Fieri's Drive-ins, Diners, and Dives. Search on YouTube to watch the episode. Heads up this is a cash only restaurant. Make sure you bring about $10 per hogie and you will be happy!!!

Title: An average cheesesteak. I had a cheeseskeak and my wife had a hamburger. Everything was all right. Average. Nothing was exceptional. Not worth going out of your way to get this. The price was reasonable. Not higher or lower than expected. I lived in Philadelphia six years and have high expectations for cheesesteak. Our waitress was pleasant but we waited about 20 minutes for our order and the restaurant was not crowded when we arrived. The rest room was clean.

Hands down the best place Philly cheese steaks in south Florida! First of all this place is CASH ONLY. I usually order the steak hoagie plain with cheddar cheese sauce on top and it's the ultimate best. I love the cheese sauce and everything is prepared so deliciously!! The garlic rolls are too die for! Just enough flavor and absolutely tasty!! They have a variety of sandwiches such as a tuna sub or or ham and cheese melt but I would def recommend just the steak hoagies! That's what they're famous for. The hoagies are $7.95 which isn't bad and the portion size are pretty big and fulfilling. They definitely make you feel full after. I cannot wait to come back. The staff is always super nice and accommodating. Thinking about it is making me drool! I wish this place was closer to me. But it's worth the drive!

If you don't come get a steak sub I don't know what to tell you that should already tell you I came in today not knowing what to expect it was my first time coming here and let me tell you the vibes the food will have you running back you better go while you can you won't regret it best steak sub I ever had to the mangers and the employee best service in my life literally.

Every time I go here they have great customer service. But even better fresh baked bread/hoagies . I normally get a steak n cheese and although it's not the healthiest it's really fire. I literally crave them at times. I will continue to support this local great small business. They deserve it!

Saw them featured on the yelp IG and almost drooled ob my phone screen, so I went to try them for myself. This seems like a nice mom and pop styled restaurant. I got a plain steak hoagie add mushrooms and cheese. The male behind the register seemed maybe like a manager was helpful and nice. He even gave me a side of sauce to try and I am glad he did! Adding the sauce to that steak hoagie changed the game! It was really good! Definitely a south Florida must have. Can't wait to go back.

Always such a treat going to eat here! The staff are extremely attentive and kind. The food is cooked very quickly and always tastes amazing. It's a small place, but it has a very homey feeling. 11/10 would recommend this place to EVERYONE. (P.S. they only accept cash)

Sonny! Where's the whiz?!? Jk. I'm good with the provolone too. We're good. Sonny's lived up to the hype. Specifically, the well seasoned thinly sliced meat with the bite of the peppers, sweetness of the onions and ooey gooeyness of the provolone cheese will cause me to return. I'd pass on the mushrooms next time but other than that, two solid thumbs up. I knew Sonny's wasn't a Philly cheesesteak so I expected no amoroso roll however I did hope for an sturdier roll than I got. Or maybe it was just a little too soggy. Regardless, if your bread doesn't hurt you, does it love you? Either way, delicious.

Hot damn that was one fine hoagie!! I went with the #90 (steak w/fried onions) & added provolone, peppers & mushrooms, side of hot sauce & a root beer. Service started spotty with a "pickup or to go?" question from the grill as I walked in the door. To which I asked if I could dine in & was told to grab a seat as a waitress would be right with me. I get it, it was almost 7:45 & they close at 8, it just threw me off for a second there. My waitress was prompt, great service on the soda refills, the steak hoagie came out fast & I was out the door at 8:02 after washing my hands. I drizzled a good portion of the Luisiana style or Texas Pete hot sauce & it really was the perfect addition to the meal. No pics, hands got messy quick & the got gone real quick, too!

Locally owned little restaurant. The steak sandwich was so good. I normally take the bread off but it was just the right amount. Oh and they make the buns fresh! The #90 with American and provolone cheese, advise, from the server, was the best! Our table of 4 were very impressed and will return.

CASH ONLY. Before you guys head out make sure you guys bring some. If you're already there, well find your nearest ATM. I heard they accept checks too. It's a little inconvenient tho but it also is a reminder that it's necessary to have some cash on you at all times in case your cards don't work, systems are down or in this case they only accept certain method of payment. Anyways, it may seem closed when you go late at night because of the blinds. I guess it's not so "sonny" after all haha. Moving on, inside is a back in the day type of vibe. Every thing is like old fashioned even the bill is written down. I used to come here all the time and order a good amount of steak hoagies to go but we decided to sit in and food took awhile to come out. I don't remember it taking so long. Also, the service was pretty slow because they only have one server running the show. But all in all, get #50 sauce on side. Add cheese. Not sure if all the other additional things are worth it especially when it costs extra to not enhance the hoagie. The mushroom and bell peppers don't taste like anything unless you get the jalapeño peppers. The sauce is much needed with hoagie, steak hoagie is self-sufficient it just needs a dip of marinara here and there.

Update: They do have bigger napkins! Thanks John! We have been coming here for years. It's a little outdated but the hoagies are awesome. You order by numbers. I had a #50 which is a steak hoagie with sauce & fried onions. I added provolone cheese & green peppers to mine. My husband also had a #50 and added cheese sauce. We asked for a side of hot peppers to add to our hoagies. The bread is made fresh daily and you can tell when you take a bite out of this delicious sandwich. My husband asked for his on a plate which I wished I did too as it was a little hard to eat out of the plastic basket that they normally give it to you in. I'm a messy eater & wish that the napkins were just a tada little bigger. Since they only take cash, make sure you come prepared. Definitely a hidden jewel that you want to experience if you're in the area.

I have been coming for 20 years when a neighbor introduced me. Fresh bread, great combos with onions, pepper, cheese, marinara sauce. Great friendly service, super clean and flavorful. I keep forgetting to tell them to hold off on some of the oil they grill the steak with. I'll remember next time.
