My wife and I had an "only in Sonoma" experience recently. While cleaning out her closet, she found a wedding gift certificate to Country Pine English Antiques dated 1987. We laughed about it, remembering other gift certificates that expired before we could use them.
Naturally we wondered if they'd honor it after nearly 30 years. So I called what's now Sonoma Country Antiques and spoke with a pleasant man who suggested we bring in the card and speak with the manager.
We'd never been in the shop although driven past countless times and expected to find traditional English pine furniture. Instead we found a tastefully curated collection that appealed to our penchant for older, one-of-kind, reasonably priced, natural material furnishings.
Tehra Braren, the manager, thought it amazing that we had a gift card that was nearly an antique, itself, and graciously offered to honor its full value despite us giving her several opportunities to opt out.
In an age where greed masquerades as a virtue, Tehra's generousity contradicted that cynicism. We trust actions like hers are found not only in Sonoma, but their frequency here is why we call Sonoma "home."
