TL;DR: A quietly exceptional, sanctuary-led luxury resort designed for stillness, privacy, and reset—Soori Bali is a place to exhale and withdraw, not to perform.
5 stars
Soori Bali is one of the most compelling luxury stays we’ve experienced, and a near-perfect expression of what sanctuary-led hospitality looks like when done properly.
Set on Bali’s rugged west coast, far from the traffic and visual noise of the south, Soori deliberately chooses drama over convenience. The beach is raw and powerful rather than swimmable, and that feels entirely intentional: this is a place designed for stillness, reflection, and retreat, not activity or spectacle. The reward is atmosphere; open skies, the sound of waves, and a sense of being removed from time.
The villas are exceptionally well judged: modern, calm, and private without feeling cold. Indoor-outdoor living works seamlessly, and the scale allows you to genuinely disappear into your own space. We were upgraded into an Ocean View Villa, which were very grateful for. Many guests rarely leave their villas, and that behaviour makes complete sense here - Soori quietly encourages withdrawal rather than performance.
Service is discreet, warm, and intelligent. Staff read the room well: present when needed, invisible when not. Nothing feels rehearsed or overly polished, which only reinforces the sense of ease. Small moments, like the opportunity to receive a blessing at Tanah Lot, an experience normally reserved for priests and locals, felt deeply meaningful rather than transactional. We put together our own day trip to Jatiluwih, and the hotel arranged for Wayan to drive us. We highly recommend him!
Dining is thoughtful and mostly unshowy, with a clear emphasis on quality ingredients and balance over theatrics. Even when dining in shared spaces, the hotel never feels busy or performative; the prevailing mood is one of calm coexistence rather than social display. Theatrics can be found at Keiyo, their very personal teppanyaki restaurant sat on top of the cliff with panoramic views.
Soori Bali is not a conventional luxury resort, and that is precisely its strength. It won’t suit travellers looking for beaches to swim, nightlife, or constant stimulation. But for those seeking quiet, architectural restraint, privacy, and a genuine sense of reset, it sets an exceptionally high benchmark.
For us, it stands among the best places we’ve ever stayed and one that feels particularly well suited to an end-of-year retreat or intentional pause. A place to exhale. We look forward to returning.
