I have had my eye on the poppy bezel from Sophie Hughes for so long and I can’t believe it’s finally on my finger!!!!! From the first appointment to the last I had the best experience at Sophie Hughes. They were able to reset my mom’s stone into the setting and took such incredibly good care of it as it has a lot of sentimental value to me. The details they think of to the slightly thicker bottom of the band to prevent twisting to all the elegant details I couldn’t be more obsessed with my ring! Our experience at Ore began when my then-boyfriend took our grandmothers' rings to Sophie, asking her to combine them into a new engagement ring. As it was a secret from me, they had to collaborate together to design a style I would love, still incorporating all the sentimental elements from the heirloom rings. The result was spectacular and I couldn't have been happier! That's why we chose to go back to Sophie to have her design our wedding bands, using the remaining materials from the same family rings, plus additional gold from my husband's grandfather's wedding band. I also went to Sophie to have her create my wedding earrings, using remaining gold and diamonds from my grandmother's ring, as well as sapphire gemstones she found for me—exactly what I had envisioned. Even more beautiful, actually. Sophie is a creative genius and a true artist, not to mention a consummate professional who made us feel at home every time we walked through the door. She can create something absolutely unique and magical if you're looking for wedding bands or an engagement ring that reflects who you are as a couple. No one else will have anything like it, and the quality is clearly one-of-a-kind, ethically sourced, and wholly custom. No question or request was too much for the team at Ore, who were all gracious, accommodating, friendly, and warm. BUYER BEWARE: Do not buy anything from Sophie Hughes website, as the photos do no accurately represent what the jewelry looks like! Do not buy without going into the store and seeing the item in person. I made that mistake last week when I ordered a silver link bracelet from their sale items. The bracelet looked beautiful in photos and since I'm in Los Angeles I had no way of going to see the bracelet in Boston. So I bought based on the photos. Big mistake! The bracelet arrived and it is small, sad, and cheap-looking. It looks like a child's bracelet you might buy in a dime store. And it certainly looks terrible on a grown woman's wrist. It is incredibly lightweight - probably has about $3 worth of silver in it. I feel cheated and disappointed. I paid $200 - that was the sale price, the original price was $400 - can you believe it? I was dumb enough to buy this bracelet online without seeing it in person - OK, my mistake. I trusted Sophie, having bought an expensive gold bangle from her in the past. I thought the bracelet would be as pretty as the photo. Alas, Sophie refuses to stand behind her merchandise and will not let me exchange the bracelet for something else, something that might look good on a middle aged woman's wrist. I didn't ask for a refund - I asked for an exchange. So I'm out $200 - plus $20 postage - for a pathetic piece of jewelry I can't wear. Don't make the same mistake I did! Do NOT buy from Sophie Hughes' website. Items appear larger in photos than they are in real life ... and Sophie does not stand behind her merchandise.

The women at Ore are absolute superstars. Sophie has impeccable taste - you're guaranteed to find something so special, that has a story, was made/sourced ethically and that feels all your own. I fell in love with a vintage engagement ring at Ore months ago, and had a great conversation with Olga about the style, options for custom rings etc. She was so sweet and joyous and made me so excited about the idea of getting engaged. Cut to last week, when the question was finally popped, and there it is, my perfect dream ring in a little black box! I am so grateful to Olga, Lia and Sophie for their work with my fiance to make sure I got the perfect thing. They really are such a huge part of our engagement story now and I wouldn't dream of going anywhere else for wedding bands...or really any other jewelry ever again.

Working with the team at Store Ore was a highlight in the many to-dos of wedding planning. We worked with them to design original wedding bands. Through a series of visits, countless kind e-mails, and meetings with Sophie, we ended up with very unique wedding bands that we truly treasure. Along the way we also fell in love with many of the other pieces that Store Ore carries, and my wife's wedding day earrings plus another ring (both by DMD Metals) came home with us. We started the process with Lia, who was helpful beyond words and always an absolute pleasure to work with. Sophie shared in our joy and clearly put her heart into the designs she delivered for us. We even received the sweetest congratulations e-mail immediately after our wedding, even though our last visit to pick up our rings was a few months prior. The team at Store Ore not only does beautiful work and carries exceptional inventory, but they care for each customer personally and exhibit a level of tenderness and personal attention that you could absolutely only receive by shopping small and local. The service and quality of work here is just superb. The designs are all beautiful, elegant, and yet they offer many simple / modern designs. As soon as I saw their website, I believed this would be an excellent place from which to potentially purchase an engagement ring. I initially emailed the store to start a conversation about a custom designed engagement ring, and the staff emailed me back promptly, answered all of my questions satisfactorily, and often provided additional information that they thought would be helpful. I then made an appointment to have a consultation, and the staff, all of whom were super friendly, provided really good information about all of my options and gave me their full attention. I never felt rushed to make a decision or like they were just trying to make the biggest sale. I ended up purchasing a gorgeous engagement ring that was already on site, and the resizing took only a week. They also texted me when it was ready, which was super convenient. I also really like that the designer is very careful about where she acquires her stones, in an effort to be ethically responsible amidst what can often be very unethical stone mining practices. Additionally, as a woman proposing to another woman, I of course wanted to feel comfortable and give my business to a jeweler that respected my identity. I felt completely comfortable with the staff, and believed I received equal treatment, excitement, and interest in my plans and needs as any other would have received.

I worked directly with Sophie to design a custom engagement ring for my fiancée and could not be more pleased with the process of working with her and how the final ring turned out. I knew that my fiancée wanted a ring that was more unique and creative than your average off-the-shelf ring from Kay, and I didn't want to bust the bank on a "custom" jeweler who essentially lets you choose the components (shank, head, and stone) then hurries you out the door. I also didn't want to buy a more unique ring from an established boutique jeweler elsewhere in the country that seemed overpriced and impersonal, limiting my design interaction to phone conversations with an assistant and minimal customization at best. Sophie was recommended to me by several other local small-scale, creative jewelers who didn't have experience with precious stones for wedding rings. From the outset she was open to discussing and sketching various nontraditional design possibilities with me, rather than limiting the conversation to her previously established designs. She then proceeded methodically with providing images for conversation, producing a mockup, providing samples of a wide range of options for all components, and discussing the nuances of each decision that was made along the way. The final price tag for the ring was incredibly affordable given the level of craft and attention to detail that Sophie provided. My fiancée is ecstatic about the character and quality of the ring, and we are eagerly planning to return to Sophie to make both of our wedding bands. I cannot imagine a wedding jeweler scenario more perfectly suited to our tastes and budget, and recommend her services wholeheartedly.

To mirror many past reviews, working with Sophie and Kerry at Ore was a fantastic experience. I had known for some time that I wanted to have a ring created for my fiancé that was unique and reflected her taste and personality (in addition to something I was proud to purchase!). It was my great fortune to have Sophie recommended and loved the idea of using a local metalsmith who sources her metals and stones ethically. The entire process from our first meeting was accommodating, totally non judgmental, and open to design ideas. I had a specific price range I wanted to stay within but still wanted a ring that was truly unique. Kerry and Sophie took the time to walk through each element of the ring to create something beautiful while being transparent and up front about the impact in cost. I'm opinionated and critical with design decisions and it was easy to bounce ideas back and forth. I was quickly able to trust Sophie and her team to use their expertise to guide the design to it's beautiful result. Lastly, although I would not recommend it for your own sanity, I came to them with a very tight timeline and they delivered on the exact day requested so I can't thank them enough for coming through. The ring was exactly as mocked up and discussed, and my fiancé still swoons over her ring along with receiving many comments of how beautiful and unique it is! Our experience working with the ladies at Ore was absolutely unparalleled. My fiance bought my engagement ring there, and was exceptionally nervous about finding the right ring. The women at Ore were kind, helpful, did not make him feel pressured, and ultimately helped him choose an incredibly gorgeous and unique ring -- I couldn't have picked a better one myself! When it came time to buy our wedding bands we knew there was nowhere we would get better service OR a better product than Ore. We called to set up an appointment a few months after my fiance had bought my engagement ring and they actually remembered him by name, AND they remembered immediately over the phone what ring he had chosen for me! We came into the store for our appointment and they had so many beautiful options of wedding bands to choose from to compliment the unique shape of my ring, and lots of stunning options for my fiance to choose from as well. I ended up getting two wedding bands for myself, and I was truly made to be a partner with the women at Ore in making sure every detail of the rings were perfect for both me and my engagement ring. During that time I went to the store multiple times, and was emailing them lots of questions and thoughts - they were ALWAYS quick to respond, helpful, and incredibly kind. The staff are clearly well-trained, professional, and offer lots of great advice without ever being pushy. We also chose to have our wedding bands engraved, and the final product is absolutely gorgeous. I can't express enough how wonderful it was to have the process of getting our rings be so personal and special. We both certainly feel so much more excited and sentimental about our rings because of how special of a process this was. I came in with a pretty specific budget in mind, and Sophie was able to fit all that I wanted into that budget and design a simple, modern ring that my fiancee raves about. They bring in diamonds at any price point or style you are looking for and the whole process is as stress free as it could be. I honestly could not possibly be happier with Sophie! I was on a mission to create the perfect engagement ring for my now-fiancee, and Sophie exceeded my expectations. I basically showed Sophie a few rings that my girlfriend had pinned to her Pinterest board, gave a couple minor details to fill in the blanks (white vs. yellow gold, color/type of stone, ring size) and Sophie did the rest. She took the very small of amount of information I gave her to work with, and created literally the perfect ring from scratch. To me, this makes Sophie a true artist. She's extremely creative and willing to put in the time and effort to make something special. So, I would say that if you're looking for something unique that really speaks to someone's personality or style, Sophie is absolutely the person to go to. You won't be disappointed! Oh, and she was also just named in the Improper Bostonian and Boston Magazine as the city's best local jewelry designer. She's awesome!
