We had a wonderful overnight stay at Sopwell House. We booked a package that included access to Cottonmill Spa, dinner at Omboo and breakfast in the Brasserie. The Spa is well maintained and very relaxing. Omboo was a knockout! Fantastic food and a superb attentive waiter. Rooms are spacious, with super comfortable beds. Breakfast was a plentiful buffet with a great selection. The local honey was delicious! The website for booking was a little confusing to ensure full spa access but an email to reservations helped clarify. Early access to the spa was my reason for booking. All too often when booking a 1 night stay at a hotel, you only get access from 3pm check in. To get almost a full 24hrs here was a real treat, it would definitely encourage me to return. All the staff were super friendly and courteous. Thanks to all that made our stay so pleasant. See you next time!

Best Afternoon Tea Experience in Hertfordshire! Thank you to Patrick and his team for their warm welcome and amazing service. My family and I came to celebrate a special occasion and we didn’t want to leave. The hotel is spotless and every member of staff is a credit to the hotel. The food was excellent and our seating in the Omboo Restaurant was sublime. Such a hidden gem!

I had a truly wonderful stay at Sopwell House Spa. The grounds are absolutely beautiful, and the spa itself is gorgeous with excellent amenities. I opted for access to the Club Spa, which was well worth it. Everything felt luxurious down to the complimentary slippers.||The staff were welcoming and attentive throughout my visit, making the experience even more enjoyable. A special thank you to Valerie, who was exceptional when assisting with my reservation and ensured everything was seamless from the start.||Overall, a fabulous experience that I would highly recommend. I can’t wait to return!

They asked me for my feedback I sent this and they ignored me. So will post here! I am writing to formally raise a complaint regarding my recent stay at Sopwell House, which I booked as a surprise for my partner’s birthday. While your staff were consistently warm, welcoming, and attentive, the overall experience fell far below expectations — particularly given the cost of £900 for one night (over £1,300 including food and drinks). Booking & Communication I made the booking online the day before our stay. The website was unclear, and the following morning I received a call informing me that the booking was only valid for one person. When I increased it to two, I was then told that we only had access to the Cottonmill spa and not the Club, which is featured in the majority of your promotional imagery. Access to the Club increased the cost dramatically, adding around £400 to my original booking. I found this very misleading, as the website does not clearly differentiate between the two facilities. Furthermore, I was advised by phone that check-in was from 3pm. On arrival, we were told that Club access was available from 12pm. This meant we lost several hours of spa use despite paying for the upgrade, which felt unfair and avoidable. Spa Facilities We were hoping for an exceptional spa experience, but many facilities were not functioning to the standard expected: Both saunas were not hot. The steam rooms had little to no steam. The outdoor hot tubs were lukewarm, with the main pool area actually feeling warmer. Given the premium cost, I expected far better quality and maintenance of the spa facilities. Room Issues Although the apartment was nicely presented, the bathroom was not properly cleaned upon arrival, which is unacceptable. Additionally, the TV in the sitting room did not receive a Sky signal, leaving only the bedroom TV usable. At this price point, these details matter. Special Occasion When booking, I highlighted that the stay was for my partner’s birthday. Although staff asked about the occasion, nothing was done to mark it, which felt like a missed opportunity to make the experience special. Summary Overall, I left feeling extremely disappointed. While your staff provided excellent service, the misleading booking process, poorly maintained facilities, unclean bathroom, and missed opportunities to acknowledge our special occasion meant that the stay did not in any way justify the premium price.

We had booked in for a spa, dine and stay to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday, which was recognised by the hotel throughout our stay, which was a really lovely touch. ||We received a great welcome at reception, enjoyed a lovely lunch with a great choice from the buffet & menu, enjoyed the beautiful & relaxing facilities of The Club spa with a wonderful massage by Kristina, then a really delicious meal at Omboo where we were looked after very well by Vincent. The bedroom was also lovely with a very comfy bed & we enjoyed a great choice at breakfast with quality produce the following morning. All in all, a really lovely stay.

My wife and I visited Sopwell, mid September to celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary and it was incredible from start to finish. ||Upon arrival, you’re greeted with a spectacular and airy reception, friendly and smiling staff and luckily for us, our room was ready and were given a pretty spectacular upgrade to a corner suite. ||The room was incredible. Spacious, beautifully decorated, a gorgoeus little complimentary mini bar, balcony and huge bath tub. ||From there, we visited the gym which again, is beautifully decorated, well lit and enough equipment in there to satisfy all gym goers. ||Lunch we eat outside at the Brasserie. A pretty fantastic burger and fries, nothing bad to be said about lunch! ||We headed over to the Spa which exceeded all expectation. It’s quite easily the best spa we’ve visited. Huge amounts of natural light, outdoor hot tubs surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens. A number of different steam rooms and saunas, all offering unique little differences to your average spa. Cold water and tea available, QR codes for waiter service and plenty of places to relax. We also came back to the Spa after dinner around 9pm and that’s not to be missed! Expect beautiful lighting, steaming hot tubs and fires lit. It’s really quite incredible. ||Drinks at the Octagon bar where we were lucky enough to have visited many times before. Very well made cocktails, a damn fine Martini and considering it was pretty busy for a Monday night, service was very good. ||Dinner at Omboo. Very friendly service and fine Japanese cuisine to rival any central london restaurant. My wife and I aren’t big Sushi lovers but the Black cod, chicken Karaage and seafood rice is off the charts. We’ve visited Omboo numerous times and the quality is consistent. Reasonably priced (for a top Japanese restaurant) and great food. ||We had breakfast included, which we got delivered to our room. We made a few amendments on the slip you fill in before the morning and all were fulfilled. There’s a £5 fee for breakfast in the room but that’s easy to swallow. ||Back to the Spa after breakfast where I experience their version of a Hammam, which was quite exceptional. Scrubbed within an inch of your life (in the best way possible), water falling from the ceiling, and eucalyptus mud all over the place. It finishes off with a shea butter massage and you’re left feeling silky smooth. ||Before we left we had a light snack at the Octagon bar, a pretty outstanding Ruben sandwich awaits. ||Overall, we couldn’t fault the place. The whole place is decorated beautifully, the staff are courteous and helpful, the Spa is easily one of the best we’ve visited and it has a phenomenal Japanese restaurant to back it all up. What more do you need. ||An extremely special shout out to Jenny Bevans, the manager who went above and beyond to make our stay memorable, special and so enjoyable. She’s a testament to the brilliant hotel. We’ll be back soon.

Rooms - we were given a room where the toilet had not been cleaned. Very disappointed so we phoned reception who quickly sent up a cleaner. We were not happy with this so they did upgrade us to a better room and a few drinks vouchers. Breakfast was brilliant- can’t fault it, but would appreciate more options for a halal diet. Spa - we did the included Cottonmill spa on day 1 and that was sufficient. I think it’s quite an expensive upgrade to do the Club, but we went ahead and this was definitely worth it! We had spa treatments which were brilliant & attended a class as well. Food - the food was very sub standard. Better options are definitely needed. Fish finger wraps are not what I was expecting - perhaps some pasta or better sandwiches would be more beneficial. Parking & facilities were brilliant. Could be signposted a bit better
