This venue is one of the most impressive I’ve ever experienced - as soon as I come in the receptionist team is so welcoming and helpful, I also met Sarah and Oya from the sales & events team who showed me to my meeting room and checked up on me throughout the day - the loveliest, most attentive staff I’ve came across so a huge thank you for making my experience so special. I had lunch at the Brasserie and can confidently say it’s one of the best meals I’ve ever had, the chefs are amazing, venue is beautiful but what really stands out is, again, the service. I was taken care of by I believe Charles and Gabor (apologies if the spelling is incorrect), I haven’t ever had that level of good service in a restaurant. They were so friendly, conversational, and knowledgeable. Thank you so so much to all the staff who naturally go above and beyond, it really makes the biggest difference to someone’s stay😊

Wow, wow wow! This is truly a stunning hotel and a luxury experience for a special occasion. We were delighted with our stay at Sopwell House, from the friendly and attentive staff to the luxury rooms and of course, the state of the art spa. This isn't your standard hotel, every detail is high end and the interiors beautifully designed. If you can spend a few more pennies on the Club at Cottonmill Spa - it's worth it! We also recommend the Omboo Restaurant as we really enjoyed our meal here. Thanks SH Team!

We booked a last-minute autumn stay at Sopwell House & Spa for my partner's birthday, and it was truly exceptional. The service from start to finish was impeccable. Every member of staff went above and beyond to make our stay special. The dining experience at Omboo restaurant was a major highlight. The waiters and managers were brilliant, offering fantastic recommendations and attention to detail. They even brought out a small dessert and sang Happy Birthday, which was a lovely, unexpected surprise! A special thank you to Francis, the manager, who made us feel incredibly welcome and valued. Also, a huge shout-out to Lun and Hammin—you made our evening truly memorable! Breakfast and lunch in the Brasserie were great; the selection offered everything we could possibly want. Finally, we had such a nice and relaxing time, capped off perfectly with a deep tissue massage in the spa. Highly recommend Sopwell House & Spa for a luxurious and relaxing escape!

We enjoyed a wonderful last minute stay at Sopwell House from 1st to 2nd January to celebrate our anniversary. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by the doorman who welcomed us so warmly and kindly took our bags to reception. We were lucky enough to be upgraded and able to check in a little early which meant we could work comfortably from the desks in our room. The spa was absolutely gorgeous. Although we did not have access to The Club, we were able to enjoy the pool steam room sauna and hot tubs. Everything was spotlessly clean, not overcrowded and so calm and relaxing. The hotel manager Giammario was truly incredible. It is rare that my partner and I both say we must write a review for someone because of their service and this was absolutely the case with Giammario. He was welcoming, friendly and went above and beyond to help us celebrate our anniversary and made us feel so special. He makes meaningful relationships with guests and staff and we could see truly how much he loves his job. The rooms are beautifully decorated with much attention to detail and the bathrooms felt luxurious. We loved having Elemis products both in the room and in the spa which was a lovely touch. We also ate at the brasserie and the food was locally sourced and absolutely delicious. Our server was wonderful annd attentive without being intrusive and made the experience even better. The experience ended with a delicious desert on the house which was a lovely surprise. Between us both, we have stayed in some lovely hotels and spa hotels but this one feels genuinely special and the location is absolutely fabulous too. We are already looking to book our next break at Sopwell House and cannot wait to return!

This was a bit of a let-down of a stay. You only have access to the CottonMill 'spa', which is basically an overcrowded pool and chairs, with not much to do, I don't think you could even call it a spa. You have to pay extra to go into the 'Club' area (£130+ and was at capacity anyway), which has all the usual spa amenities. Even if you book a treatment you still have no access, which for a spa hotel is a little disappointing particularly as the treatments aren't inexpensive, and really ruins the 'spa break vibe. I came with a friend who had been there many times before and was able to use all the facilities, but maybe they have recently changed it? We weren't sure. We cancelled our Sunday morning treatments as we were planning to use the spa before we left but felt there wouldn't be any point. The room was fine, very small and had to shuffle around the bed plus the only dinner reservation for the nice restaurant was 9:15pm. On a plus point the staff are friendly and there's electric car charging points. Would I drive an hour and a half to come again, no I 100% would not as it's it's not worth the money or the 4* status it holds.

Spent a spa day at sopwell house this week. Everything about it is perfect! Unlike other spa places they don't overbook so there's always a bed around the pool or in the lovely relaxation room. Massages and facials are always well done but this week I had Ria...it was the most amazing massage ever!

Loved this spa hotel and would recommend. I understand the spa is a 2 tier and you have to pay extra to use the club at cottonmill but I just had the normal spa included in my stay which included a pool, steam, sauna room and 2 jacuzzi pools. The staff are amazing here, very helpful and friendly. The room was lovely and the bed was very comfortable. Plenty of parking with 2 restaurants, a bar and a couple of lounge areas. There was plenty of choice for breakfast which is a buffet.

Brilliant hotel. I went there for my birthday. Is a great place of relaxation, surrounded by nature and has great spa facilities. The room was amazing, super clean and with an amazing view into the garden. The breakfast is nice - boutique house like. Many thanks to Harris(Reception) Great customer service from his side. I'll come back and recommend. Many thanks, Niky A. - London

Yelp
I recently stayed here for a work event and was very happy with the company's choice. Staff were all amazing, food at the conference slapped too. My room was huge, which was a welcome surprise. The grounds are quite nice, beautiful gardens. Had some drinks in the conservatory, but did not get to check out the spa or swim. But they both looked prime.

Yelp
We had a fabulous afternoon tea at the Sopwell House! We enjoyed all the sandwiches, pastries, and scones. They were able to accommodate my hazelnut allergy and made a substitution accordingly, which we appreciated. There was a large selection of teas and we enjoyed the two we selected. The service was pleasant and the atmosphere was excellent too. I'd highly recommend!

Yelp
Posh indeed. A little over-priced and it seems as if they seat you in one of the particular rooms according to some nondescript "stature". The wait staff seemed a little overwhelmed despite being nice but the most pestering of things were the wasps that came in and were quite determined to have a part of the sweets. Staff were innocuous to it.

Yelp
Obviously seen better days. Has a pompous air in keeping with its history but is now worn and frayed. Over priced for what it is. Elevator not working. Price on the check in form is not the real room price. You have to pay in advance for your bar and restaurant bill at check-in. My room had fray linens, holes in the wall and huge dings in the bath tub. "Would you like to upgrade" scam is obviously well practiced. I remember when it was cool to stay there. I'm never going back. Not set up for American visitors: it's not British quirky and adorable. It's British I-don't-trust-our-guests and let's-all-the-money-up-front meanness.

Yelp
Some thing to know if you are a solo or business traveler-this is a little out of the way , so take a deep breath and enjoy the country air! St. Albans is a terrific city with a nice selection of restaurants. Sopwell house has a terrific staff, a lovely spa and gym. I was here on business and had a small room but highly functional with a renovated new (small) bathroom. This place does a great deal of business for weddings and Sunday tea. The food was very good as well, I mostly had salads - extremely fresh ingredients. Tasted like it was from the garden. The value for the price is definitely worth it. I look forward to my return.

Yelp
I have been a guest at this hotel several times. Ot is set in a lovely location. The rooms we have stayed in are ok, verey small compared to hotel rooms in the US where we also have a home. The pool Spa is pretty good, yet teh pool is quite heavily chlorinated. The choices for dinner are reasonable, yet a little expoensive for a hotel NOT in London, breakfast is ok yet a lttle greasy, there are other NON Cooked choices as well. The hotel is clean, staff are polite, friendly and professional. Yet I feel for the prices they charge it could do with a little TLC Tender Loving Care. If you take afternoon tea at the hotel it is very expensive.

Yelp
I love this hotel. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, the food is excellent and the spa has just been given a makeover and is wonderful. A perfect break from London that is not too far away, but still feels like the middle of nowhere!
