"A Modern Sanctuary High Above the City What this 66-room property lacks in proximity to the Old Town (it’s a 25-minute tram ride to Bahnhofstrasse), it more than makes up for with its prime hillside perch on the Zürichberg overlooking the city below, and just beyond, Lake Zürich and the majestic snow-capped Alps. Spread across a restored Art Nouveau building and a modern annex with a Guggenheim-like corkscrew ramp, the minimalist, stylish rooms come with shocks of color—for instance, purple Arne Jacobsen Swan chairs. Guests can borrow bikes to make their way to the nearby Fluntern Cemetery, where James Joyce is buried, or meander the wooded paths of the Zürichberg forest."

Sorell Hotel Zürichberg Review | Hotels Above Par

"Perched high on the wooded Zurichberg hill about a 10-minute drive from downtown, this classically designed 19th-century hotel—modernized inside—offers 66 sleek, minimalist rooms and suites with warm wood accents, private workspaces, and sweeping views over the city and Lake Zurich. Guests receive complimentary breakfast featuring a buffet of fresh fruits, yogurts and Swiss cheeses plus made-to-order eggs and pancakes, and there is a dedicated mimosa bar; dinner at the on-site restaurant emphasizes traditional Swiss dishes prepared with locally grown produce and is especially enjoyable when eaten outdoors. Public spaces include a veranda/terrace just off the ground-floor lobby that provides some of the best vistas in Zurich, and amenities such as a bar, concierge, ballroom and meeting rooms; bikes are available free for exploring the hill or riding into the city. Quiet and green despite its proximity to the urban center, the property is well placed for visits to nearby attractions like Zurich Zoo, the FIFA Museum, Kunsthaus Zürich, the Blumenuhr and ETH Zurich. Rated four stars with rooms starting around $220/night, it serves as a peaceful mountain escape with easy access to the city and surrounding nature walks and hikes."

Why you should stay here: We had several nights at the Sorell Hotel Zürichberg. 5 reasons to book here: 1. Great rooms, which seem quiet. 🤫🛌 2. Friendly, happy, welcoming front desk staff. ❤️ 3. Dogs are welcome throughout the hotel. 🐶🦮 4. Really clean and nice room that is well maintained. 🧹🫧 5. Fantastic breakfast - great selection. 🍳 There is a lovely view, the hotel is within walking distance to the Zoo and streetcar. We arrived at the hotel early, and were allowed to check in at 11 am! The only down side is their air conditioning in the rooms, it is a bit of a joke that has a hard time keeping the room cool. 👎🏻❄️

I had an absolutely incredible stay! From the moment I arrived, the staff went above and beyond to make me feel welcomed and comfortable. Everyone I encountered was not only professional, but also genuinely kind and attentive. The level of service was exceptional — you can tell the team truly takes pride in creating a great guest experience. The room was spotless, the amenities were top-notch, and every detail felt thoughtfully taken care of. I can’t recommend this hotel enough and will definitely be back! Thank you to the entire team for making my stay so memorable.

I have reserved 2 rooms for my family in the period between 27 July till 30 July. I packed my luggage ready to travel. My dad had a sudden critical condition sleeping for 3 days In hospital . I asked for putting off the res. They didn’t cooperate with a humanitarian emergency health condition. They treated me badly although I am supported with a medical report. I asked them to charge me the first night only, but they refused as well. 2000 dollars went in vein!! I don’t recommend this hotel to any visitor. A staff that doesn’t empathize with a health condition that’s sudden and out of hands and still charge their customers doesn’t deserve any penny. I’m deeply disappointed with how they dealt with their customers. I will endorse the medical report for you, I strictly don’t recommend this horrible hotel. People might have emergencies or health conditions out of their control…I wanted to stay in this hotel again, but I was surprised with their inhumane attitude. Remember, I didn’t ask for refund, I just asked for shift!

Awesome stay, the rooms are clean and spacious. Located on the hill near the Zurich zoo with a forest nearby and beautiful lake views. Service is great. Food was tasty and there was a big buffet for breakfast.

Hotel: The hotel’s location was ideal for relaxing after our day trips. Tram 6 made transportation easy, though there’s a slight uphill walk from the drop-off, which offers great views. The cleaning staff were attentive, regularly checking for our needs and surprising our daughter with a teddy bear. Restaurant: Breakfast was excellent, with Rosa, Ahmed, and the team ensuring we had everything we needed, from quick hot food to assistance with the coffee machine. Bar: I ordered an Old Fashioned that wasn’t on the menu, and the bartender confidently made two with Woodford, perfectly mixed. However, on our last night, service was poor. As the youngest couple, we received the least attention. After a frustrating wait for our order, we had to seek out another bartender who produced a subpar Old Fashioned that tasted like an Aperol Spritz. Luckily, he allowed me to return it for a complimentary beer.

We really enjoyed staying at this hotel, it was stylish comfortable. We stayed in a room in the newer part of the hotel overlooking the lake. |The room was really comfortable & sitting out on the balcony with a coffee in the morning looking out over the lake in the distance was lovely. |Breakfast was really good quality, we ordered once to the room and down once, both were great. I enjoyed the addition of buzz fizz down at the restaurant. |The hotel is approx 20 mins down to town on the tram but we enjoyed taking this down and the trams were like every 10 mins and the station a pleasant 3 min walk from the hotel. |If we came back to Zurich, I would stay here.

We checked in promptly, but unfortunately, the experience quickly deteriorated. One of our family members started showering, only to discover the toilet could not flush. While a plumber was sent, he could not communicate in English, which made the situation more frustrating. I had to go down to the lobby myself to clarify the situation. ||The pillow was also far too soft. Under normal circumstances, I would have asked for a firmer one, but given the overall poor experience, I chose to just take it for the night.||What stood out most was the overall lack of engagement and poor attitude from the staff. It felt like even the most basic requests were a burden to them. ||The breakfast was quite OK, even though there was only one lady working. ||We are unlikely to recommend this hotel to our family and friends. |

Very nice place for a drink or a small lunch or dinner with a fabulous lake view. My favorite choice is the chicken club sandwich!
