Where to begin with a review of Sorrisniva? It doesn’t feel like a hotel review does it justice because it’s so much more than that – it’s an entire experience. We stayed for two nights in February – one in the ice hotel and one in a river view room. We also took advantage of several of the experiences offered at Sorrisniva including the husky sledding and reindeer trip / Sami experience. We ate in both restaurants too. The whole place is just magical and we felt like we were transported to another world from start to finish. |The ice hotel is, as you would expect, the most magical place possible. It had a Greek mythology theme when we were there and we chose the room modelled on the Acropolis. Top tip – if you have booked a themed suite, they are allocated on arrival so the earlier you get there, the more chance you have of getting the room you prefer. Having said that though, all of the themed suites were stunning.|The set up for staying in the ice hotel is really well thought out and makes the stay so comfortable. You’re given a locker to stash valuables in as you really don’t want to be taking too much into the ice room with you. Your bags then go in a luggage room. There are spotless shower rooms to use before and after your stay in the ice room and you simply pick up your bedding right before you’re ready to go to sleep so that it doesn’t get cold in the room. We were super cosy during the night with our polar sleeping bags and in our thermal gear. Going to sleep in the ice room is utterly unforgettable – it’s so quiet, and, when you turn off the LEDs that illuminate the room, dark as well. And the next morning, when you are ready, you say farewell to the most unique place you will ever sleep and warm up with a shower and a breakfast back in the main hotel. There’s also a sauna if you wake up early and really want to get warm, but we honestly were so comfortable that we didn’t feel the need – preferring instead to have some extra time in our ice room.|The river view room where we stayed on night two was also a fabulous room. Such a comfortable bed (which is, despite the coziness of the ice room rather lovely for the next night), lovely chairs to enjoy the view out over the frozen river and a balcony too. There’s also a glass roof to part of the room for Norther Lights viewing. We were lucky enough to see the lights on both nights and although it was magical from the room, the previous night we saw them while having dinner in the fine dining restaurant where the staff will pause service and encourage you all outside to watch the show. What could be better?|The food at both the fine dining restaurant and the other – still pretty fine – restaurant was exceptional, with the reindeer you would expect, and really hearty portions to keep you going in the cold. We also enjoyed sitting in the bar by the fire with a drink or two and just marveling at the frozen scenes. The experiences were all superb – the huskies were an absolute highlight, as we got to drive them ourselves down frozen rivers and through a snowstorm. Just wonderful. We also enjoyed walking along the river right in front of the hotel where a trail was marked out to keep us safe.|I honestly would not change a thing about this classy, cosy and welcoming venue. Loved every minute.
