Yesterday, my fiance and I wanted to try this establishment. According to both the internet and the posted hours, on the door, they opened at 8 am. We arrived @ 8:30 to no lights on and a locked door.
We waited for 5 minutes and decided to go upstairs and enjoy coffee and pastries at W & F's restaurant. After we finished, we headed back to our car.
On our way back to the parking lot, we walked past this cafe and noticed the door was now open. We both stepped inside and there stood a gal, behind the counter, on her phone. She had no clue we'd entered through the door.
A minute later she looked up and was startled to see us. My fiance asked if they had different hours now and the lady admitted she was late in opening up. She said, "there are too many doctors" and "she was late." Huh????
We said we'd come earlier and no one was there.
At any rate all she had was an excuse. No apology, no please try us again, nothing.
What strikes me is that obviously all the baked items, in the window, were there since the day before. Not covered. Not fresh. Nothing put out, on display, that morning.
What is even more interesting is that W & F's upstairs was busy. As we drove past a packed Starbucks and a packed Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf on the way down El Paseo, we chuckled.
Integrity is what's missing at SottoVoce. And this is why businesses don't last. Sad.
